ABSTRACT: CS/AIX BACKLVL CMD PRODUCES MISLEADING ERROR MSG
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
If the AIX DLC device is not available or defined, the backlevel
command:
sna -s l -p ls_name
fails, stating "0105-2920 Start Link station cannot find the
specified remote station." rather than indicating that the
DLC is not present.
LOCAL FIX:
Read through the sna.err log and it holds information that will
clear this all up- only the console message is left wanting.
PROBLEM SUMMARY:
Backlevel command interpreter failed.
PROBLEM CONCLUSION:
Code update altered the back level command
interpreter.

ABSTRACT: CP-CP SESSIONS RETRY FAILURE.
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
Customer has two links between two NNs:
dts nmc (nodes)
ETHL3 ------ ETHL1 (linkstation names)
ETHL7 ------ ETHL3 (linkstation names)
When the link between ETHL7 and ETHL3 is dropped, CP-CP sessions
do not get established on link between ETHL3 and ETHL1.
In the dts traces we see ETHL3 goes down at 20:30:33, then
sense 8002000,retrying cp-cp session activation after failure.
This is immediately followed by 80140001, no route or COS found
(nmc node shows ETHL3 is active at this time.) And finally,
08090039, CP transaction error. CP CP control point session
PROBLEM SUMMARY:
Customer set up parallel Ethernet and Token Ring links between t
wo NNs. The CP-CP sessions were running over one link. He broke
the that link (at the router) so that one end discovered the pro
blem before the other. This first end retried the CP-CP
sessions 6 times, each time the BIND was rejected 0805 by the ot
her end (that saw this as a session limit error). When the secon
d end got the link failure it did not retry the CP-CP sessions (
on the other link).
PROBLEM CONCLUSION:
Back applied existing fixes from CS/AIX V6 (where this area had
been improved substantially).

ABSTRACT: APPC CONVERSATION SECURITY DEFINITION FOR PARTNER LU MISSING
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
Customer has a AIX/MVS DB2 environment via AIX/CS V5.
MVS DB2 was not able to allocate a conversation because of the
fact that 'already verified indicator' bit was not set in the
BIND security byte 23 (decimal). On AIX/CS default definition
this byte is x'14' indicating 'already verified indicator' is
off. To turn this bit on in the outgoing BIND, parameter
conv_security_ver = YES in the define_partner_lu definition must
be defined. When this parameter is set to YES the
'already verified indicator' is turned on (BIND byte 23 = x'16')
Unfortunatly this parameter can't neither be set via SMITTY nor
via XSNAADMIN. This apar was created to add this support.
Another fact is that AIX/CS documentation does not explain in
the 'conv_security_ver' parameter description, that this
parameter sets the 'already verified indicator' on outgoing
BIND requests.
P.S. Above scenario is true for AIX/CS V6 as well.
PROBLEM SUMMARY:
User cannot configure the conv_security_ver parameter in define_
partner_lu from smit.
PROBLEM CONCLUSION:
A new prompt has been added to the partner_lu dialog in smit.
It is not changed in xsnaadmin.

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
After upgrading SNA from V4 to V5, the X25 link station

ABSTRACT: DBX LIMIT ON FUNCTION OVERLOADS CAN CAUSE COREDUMP
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
When the user wishes to set a breakpoint in an overloaded
function, dbx will prompt the user to choose from a list
of which versions of the function to set the breakpoint
in. It keeps track of which versions the user specifies
with a global statically allocated array of 512 elements.
This limit, however, is never checked.
If an overloaded function has more than 512 versions, dbx
will overflow the buffer and corrupt some of its other
global data structures. This usually causes the dbx
process to coredump.
PROBLEM SUMMARY:
dbx can now handle an unlimited number of overloaded versions

Host has records queued, then the host and Risc appl are started
and the records are sent ot the Riac and processed OK. A second
batch are queued and do not flow and the application on the
host and Risc have to be stopped and restarted.
PROBLEM SUMMARY:
The deallocate failure is a red herring. The correct problem des
cription is that the second incoming attach is not processed and
the application hangs up. This occurs when the tp_instance_limit
is 1. I have corrected the migrationg program to set the insta
nce limit to 1 in the case when the tp_name is NULL and multiple
_instances is no (the case where the application is operator sta

2f022c88: .[sna_v5router:nba_scheduler]+200 (053da9b4)
LOCAL FIX:
The problem can be avoided by applying the VTAM bug fix that rep
lies to the outstanding BIND (which will prevent the CNOS race)
or avoiding issuing an activate_session (Allocates do not cause
the crash). The fix is OW47613.
PROBLEM SUMMARY:
Crash in nrm_get_session_proc from nrm_change_sessions_proc
The crash occurs only after an unusual race.
There is a problem in VTAM (for which there is a patch) which me
nas that BIND messages are not always replied to while some soft
ware is resetting (in an overnight timeframe typically).
A CS/AIX application issues ALLOCATE causing CS/AIX to send a SN
ASVCG BIND, this is not responded to. Later the operator tries t
o activate the session directly (probably from xsnaadmin) issuin
g an activate_session for the data mode. He then issues an activ
e session for the SNASVCMG mode. CS/AIX tries to negotiate sessi
on limits but this is rejected by the mainframe (CNOS race) whic
h then negotiates CNOS. The crash occurs at this point as we tr
y to dequeue the activate_session message internally.
PROBLEM CONCLUSION:
Correct handling of queued activate_session after CNOS race.

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
Running awk / nawk is resulting in following error:
LEX Error: input string too long to fit in yywtext .
Increase the array size by defining YYLMAX to be a higher value
PROBLEM SUMMARY:
Running awk/nawk is resulting in the following LEX error:
LEX Error: input string too long to fit in yywtext . Increase
the array size by defining YYLMAX to be a higher value.
PROBLEM CONCLUSION:
This is due to the size of the yywtext YYLMAX array being
exceeded, when lex is internally used by awk/nawk command.
Increasing the value of YYLMAX in the lex code will solve
the problem.

ABSTRACT: GIGABIT ETHERNET PERFORMANCE ENHANCEMENTS
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
Customer may see lower system performance on heavily-loaded
systems when running Gigabit Ethernet.
PROBLEM CONCLUSION:
A new ODM attribute called slih_hog has been added which
causes the Gigabit Ethernet interrupt handler to exit after

This attribute limits the amount of time a CPU will spend
processing Gigabit Ethernet adapter interrupts, which enables
the system to more evenly distribute workloads across all
CPUs.
The default value for the existing ODM attribute copy_bytes
has also been changed from 256 to 2048, which enables the
system to more efficiently move data from system memory to
the Gigabit Ethernet adapter.

ABSTRACT: DSI IN INSQUE WHILE SHUTTING DOWN NFS
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
A DSI might occur in insque (called from
sq_insque_sp/krpc_dispatch) if NFS is shutdown (by HACMP or
manually) during heavy load. The problem has only shown up
when xmalloc debug is enabled.
LOCAL FIX:
Disabling xmalloc debug greatly reduces the risk of this error
to surface.
PROBLEM SUMMARY:
A DSI might occur in insque with the following stack trace:
IAR: . nfs.ext:insque +10 (045c5e18): stw r3,0x4(r5) 64
LR: . nfs.ext:sq_insque_sp +c4 (045c4964)
3881bc38: . nfs.ext:krpc_dispatch +3e0 (045c6228)
3881bca8: .sowakeup+2b8 (000ad2f4)
3881bcf8: . netinet:tcp_input0 +3484 (0296902c)
It occurs during shutdown of NFS while there is heavy load
on the server, for example during a HACMP failover.
It has only been observed when xmalloc debug is enabled.
PROBLEM CONCLUSION:
Sockpint_destroy does not take the sockpint off of all lists
(ssp_idle and ssp_active). Make sure a deallocated sockpint is
taken off of all lists before the memory is free:d.

ABSTRACT: BACKUP ID NOT UPDATED IN SDR WHEN BACKUP TIMES OUT DURING
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
This apar addresses the aftermath of a backup node not
responding during fence/unfence processing. The backup
node fails to ACK to a DEVICE_DB_UPDATES command;
the backup is fenced and a new backup is chosen. However,
the SDR is not updated to reflect the new backup id.
PROBLEM SUMMARY:
When a primary backup node times out during an Efence or
Eunfence operation, it is fenced off the switch and a new
backup node is chosen, but the SDR is not updated to
reflect the new backup's id.
PROBLEM CONCLUSION:
The error recovery Estart that gets invoked to handle
errors found during Efence or Eunfence will call the
function which will update the backup's name in the SDR.

ABSTRACT: PHOENIX.SNAP DOESN'T WAIT LONG ENOUGH ON LARGE SYSTEMS
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
phoenix.snap will wait a certain amount of time for commands it
runs to complete before declaring them hung and killing them.
On very large systems some of these commands take longer to run
and this wait time is not long enough. The wait time needs to
be increased for large systems.
LOCAL FIX:
Manually modify the amount of time phoenix.snap waits by
changing the values in the function waitforit()
PROBLEM SUMMARY:
Some of the commands phoenix.snap runs take time
proportional to the number of nodes in the system.
The amount of time it waits for these commands
before declaring them hung and terminating them
needs to be adjusted accordingly.
There were also 3 other bugs noted in phoenix.snap
that are being fixed here:
1. On 3.2 systems the format of the lssrc output
for hags has changed slightly causing phoenix.snap
to fail to determine the hags nameserver.
2. /etc/netsvc.conf was not being collected
because of a typo.
3. vmstat was collecting the wrong data. Instead
of collecting interval statistics as was intended
it was getting statistics since system startup
repeatedly.
PROBLEM CONCLUSION:
phoenix.snap now increases the wait time
proportionally for every 256 nodes in the system.
Thus, for 257-512 nodes it doubles the wait time.
As for the other 3 bugs:
The lssrc parsing has been modified to not be
dependent on the spacing of the output.
The /etc/netsvc.conf typo has been corrected.
The vmstat collection has been modified to run
"vmstat 5 5" instead of 5 instances of "vmstat".
The result is interval data will be collected
instead of numbers since system startup 5 times
over.
