    [001] - 6's Spiffy AudioGalaxy Query Tool 0.3 (Default)
      by 6 (http://freshmeat.net/users/num6/)
      Monday, July 2nd 2001 23:43

6's Spiffy AudioGalaxy Query Tool is a package that automates queries to
the AudioGalaxy music sharing system. It enables you to queue any song
(at a minimum configurable bitrate) with one command line, even if the
AudioGalaxy site is busy or unresponsive. It will also allow you to queue
most full albums with one command line, by going on AllMusic.Com to look
up the song list, and queueing up each of the songs listed.

Changes: Some bugfixes, am accepts artist name without album name to list
available albums, and ag can be configured to ignore weak matches in search
    results.

    [002] - Alzabo 0.46 (Default)
      by Dave Rolsky (http://freshmeat.net/users/urthman/)
      Monday, July 2nd 2001 16:45

Alzabo is a two-fold program. Its first function is as a data modelling
tool. Through either a schema creation interface or a custom Perl program,
it allows a programmer to create a set of schema, table, column, etc.
objects that represent a data model. Alzabo is also capable of reverse
engineering an existing data model. Its second function is as a
RDBMS-to-object mapping system. Once you have created a schema, you can use
Alzabo classes to access its data. These classes offer a high-level
interface to common operations such as SQL SELECT, INSERT, DELETE, and
    UPDATE commands.

Changes: The big feature that was added for this release is that you can
now use SQL functions like NOW() and LENGTH(Foo) transparently in your
    code, wherever they are appropriate.

    [004] - board-tnk 1.2.5 (Default)
      by Thierry Nkaoua (http://freshmeat.net/users/tnk/)
      Monday, July 2nd 2001 01:59

board-tnk is a discussion board written in PHP. It features very secure URL
checking, support for multiple forums (with only one level thread allowed
for each forum), use of cookies for showing users new messages since their
last visit and storing their information to simplify new posts, a choice of
smiley icons for each message, ability to use a subset of HTML within the
messages, multiple language support (english, french, dutch and spanish),
and a full admin page that allows you to create and delete forums, entire
threads, or answers from a thread. It is possible to prefix the MySQL
tables if only one database is allowed on an ISP server.

Changes: This release includes changes to cookies on the admin page to work
with Konqueror, a fix for changing text smileys into images, and some minor
    HTML clean-ups.

      by Peter Koch (http://freshmeat.net/users/kochp/)
      Monday, July 2nd 2001 15:41

C Styled Script is a scripting language with C syntax. A comprehensive set
of libraries is included in the base package, and writing your own
libraries is possible with an easy API for C programs, as well as a class
interface for C++ programs. If you are looking for a compact and powerful
scripting engine for your application, CSS might be the choice.

Changes: A fix fopr a bug in MySQL interface leading to GPF at second parse
in some configurations, minor changes in the ZString class, corrections in
the DB2 interface to make it compile without warnings by GCC, and a new
complex script sample "Tiny SQL Shell" (an SQL shell you can use with any
    database supported by CSS).

[012] - Echomine Muse Communications API 0.61 (Default)
      by Chris Chen (http://freshmeat.net/users/ckchris/)
      Monday, July 2nd 2001 16:50

Echomine Muse API is a Java API with the goal of integrating all
network-collaboration services into one. The API will give an easy-to-use
interface that allows you to log on to multiple services (ie. ICQ, AIM,
MSN, Yahoo Messenger, IRC, Napster, Gnutella, Jabber). There will be a
client GUI Framework API to combine the use of all these service under one
easy-to-access API so that you can write GUI client with much less effort.

Changes: This release will work with the new Napster 10.3 Beta protocol.
However, you need to modify your codes and recompile in order to work with
the new Napster. OpenNap is still supported. Read NapsterContext's javadoc
if you have questions. Also, File Sharing with Napster broke. This will
take a little longer to fix, so it will be released later. Lastly, a few
additional features have been added to the Gnutella support.

    [013] - Ext2 Salvage 0.0.6 (Default)
      by Milan Pikula (http://freshmeat.net/users/www/)
      Monday, July 2nd 2001 07:32

e2salvage is a utility which tries to recover a data from damaged ext2
filesystems. Unlike e2fsck, it does not look for the data at particular
places and it don't tend to believe the data it finds; thus it can handle
much more damaged filesystem. Moreover, fsck connects the found i-nodes to
lost+found directory. e2salvage instead tries to recover the directory
    structure.

Changes: This release includes command line options to specify an alternate
superblock address and block size, translation of a few messages to
English, some minor enhancements, and more verbose comments in
    src/config.h.

      by mws (http://freshmeat.net/users/mws/)
      Monday, July 2nd 2001 17:48

The HA-Tools provide some programs to improve shell scripting, especially
in a High Availability environment. The halockrun program provides a
simple and reliable way to implement locking in shell scripts (a typical
usage for halockrun is to prevent cronjobs to run simultanously), and the
hatimerun program provides a time-out mechanism.

    [028] - ISPMan 0.7.3 (Default)
      by Atif Ghaffar (http://freshmeat.net/users/madmag/)
      Monday, July 2nd 2001 18:42

ISPman (aka Exchange Killer) is ISP management software written in Perl,
using an LDAP backend (OpenLDAP 1.2.xx) to manage virtual hosts for an ISP.
It can be used to manage DNS, virtual hosts for Apache config, Postfix
configuration, Cyrus mail boxes, proftpd, etc. It provides a central
Web-based user interface from which domains and all their parameters can be
    managed.

Changes: A reverse DNS bug in dns.lib has been fixed. DNS files are now
cleanly kept in namedDirectory/namedIspmanDirectory/pri|sec|rev etc. The
script bin/revips has been added, which will just list all the rev
addresses that you have. SOA changes are back, and you can change the SOA
per domain. A script (scripts/upgrade_from_ldif.pl) has been added that
will come handy stuff is added to ldifs. This release has a new look and
feel. ControlPanel has been added, which is a web-based admin area for for
domain customers to change their DNS settings, add users, mailing lists,
and virtualhosts, etc. Work on translating ControlPanel has begun, and it
currently works in English, French, and German.

Checkstyle is a development tool to help programmers write Java code that
adheres to a coding standard. Its purpose is to automate the process of
checking Java code, and to spare humans of this task.

java.lang package, importing from the package the file is declared in, a
flag to ignore checking of whitespace, a flag to ignore checking of braces

[030] - Java Serialization to XML 0.8.11 (Default)
      by Brendan Macmillan (http://freshmeat.net/users/yow/)
      Monday, July 2nd 2001 07:17

JSX (Java Serialization to XML) gives you XML persistence and
communication. You need not change your classes or design schema or write
scripts. It just works - even if your classes have changed in the meantime.
Usage is as for Java's own Serialization. JAXB, Jato, and Castor can
require considerable setup, and Swing Serialization to XML only works for
Java Beans. JSX works for all objects, handles evolution of classes, and
needs no setup at all. You can just delegate the whole XML-side to JSX.

Changes: This release now sets final primitive fields in deserialization.
0.8.10 only did this for final object fields.

    [033] - lcrzo 3.14 (Default)
      by Laurent Constantin (http://freshmeat.net/users/laurentconstantin/)
      Monday, July 2nd 2001 10:09

Lcrzo is a network library for network administrators and network hackers.
It is designed to make it easy to create network programs. It supports
spoofing, sniffing, and client/server creation. This library has been
successfully installed under Linux, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, and Solaris.

Changes: A port to OpenBSD (2.9) was made. lcrzo_string_initm_icmptypecode
was added to create a string containing the explanation of an ICMP type and
code. Under Solaris 2.8, in lcrzo_spoof_ip, the totlen field of IP headers
had to be recomputed if the packet contained IP options. The functions,
    lcrzo_record_recfile_init_pcapfile and lcrzo_record_pcapfile_init_recfile,
were created to convert a libpcap/tcpdump packet file to a record file. In
lcrzo_err_print, stdout wasn't flushed after error displaying. The
    functions, lcrzo_filename_clean, lcrzo_filename_parentdir, and
lcrzo_filename_lastfile, were created to clean a path, obtain the parent
directory, and obtain the file name.
lcrzo_global_[sg]et_data_regexp_casesensitive was created to select whether
    regular expressions are case-sensitive.

    [036] - Linux Intrusion Detection System 1.0.10 for 2.4.5 (2.4.x)
      by Huagang Xie (http://freshmeat.net/users/xhg/)
      Monday, July 2nd 2001 08:08

The Linux Intrusion Detection System (LIDS) is a patch which enhances the
kernel's security by implementing a reference monitor and Mandatory Access
Control (MAC). When it is in effect, chosen file access, all system/network
administration operations, any capability use, raw device, memory, and I/O
access can be made impossible even for root. You can define which programs
can access specific files. It uses and extends the system capabilities
bounding set to control the whole system and adds some network and
filesystem security features to the kernel to enhance the security. You can
finely tune the security protections online, hide sensitive processes,
receive security alerts through the network, and more.

    [037] - Linux Napster Client 1.4.5 (Default)
      by Peter Selinger (http://freshmeat.net/users/selinger/)
      Monday, July 2nd 2001 09:17

Nap is a client for Napster that runs under Linux and OpenBSD. Napster is a
very large music library which ensures the availability of every song
online by making the libraries of other MP3 listeners accessible to you
directly, only listing those files available right now.

Changes: Nap now connects to OpenNap servers by default, abandoning Napster
Inc. A list of available servers is read automatically from napigator.com.
A Windows (cygwin32) distribution has been added. Nap now fully supports
VBR (variable bitrate) files. Various segfaults were removed. Commands such
as /set, /alias, and /server were modified to do something useful when no
arguments are given. The appearance of the search result screen can now be
customized, and the result screen is not reset when switching back and
forth to the main screen. A /getservers command was added to read a list of
servers from napigator.com. The /reconnect command was modified to cycle to
the next server on the list, rather than starting from the top of the list
each time. PONG packages are now ignored by default. The various binary
distributions are now statically linked, to avoid problems with missing
    shared libraries.

[044] - Nullcraft Portal Development Kit 0.4.1 (Default)
      by Mark (http://freshmeat.net/users/mujolo/)
      Monday, July 2nd 2001 03:45

Nullcraft Portal Development Kit is a tool for Web developers to quickly
and easily integrate several heterogeneous applications and news sources
together into a multi-page portal layout. It takes advantage of a J2EE
environment, yet still allows web developers to develop and maintain CGI
and other applications. The main display format is via a JSP page that
uses JSP custom tag libraries to generate the dynamic layout. This layout
mechanism uses features from JSP 1.2 spec. The "native" development
environment for backend modules will be Java 2 Servlet/JSP. J2EE security
components will be made available to all applications accessed via the
Portal. News channels can be managed using RDF (RSS) files. Configuration
via XML files or JDBC connection will both be available options. Each
backend component type has it's own Plugin for configuration and
    execution.

Changes: This minor release fixes some PostgreSQL-specific issues related
to unique Id gereration. PortalUtils.getNextId(..) is now
database-independent, thus making the entire application database
independent (haven't yet tested this, though). User management was changed
a bit: the current logged in User count is alot more accurate now, only
relying on the system garbage collector when a User's session expires, not
when they explicitly log out or change users.

the mail source if only sending outgoing mail. New features include a
"syncseen" feature, an option to allow all read mail in the Inbox to be
deleted, sync All support, autoconf/configure support, and filter support.
rsh is now disabled by default. A 'Content-Type:' header was added to
outgoing mails, allowing mailers to interpret charsets correctly. Compiler
warnings were cleaned up. MailToString was reworked to use CRLFs (to fix
directly appending to mailbox). The maximum size of a record was increased
to fit 8000-char messages with big headers.

      by Federico Di Gregorio (http://freshmeat.net/users/fog/)
      Monday, July 2nd 2001 15:38

psycopg is a PostgreSQL database adapter for the Python programming
language (just like pygresql and popy). Its main advantages are that it
supports the full Python DBAPI 2.0 and it is thread safe at level 2. It was
designed for heavily multi-threaded applications that create and destroy
lots of cursors and make a conspicuous number of concurrent INSERTs or
UPDATEs. The psycopg distribution includes ZPsycopgDA, a Zope Database
    Adapter.

Changes: A new QuotedString constructor, fixes to the Binary constructor,

      by John Lines (http://freshmeat.net/users/paladinfm/)
      Monday, July 2nd 2001 16:54

Taglog is designed for anyone who spends most of their day sitting at a
computer, working on various projects. You can make notes about what you
do, as you go along, associating them with the projects you work on. At the
end of the week you can produce a report of how your time was spent, broken
down by project for booking purposes. You can view previous entries, by
date, or by project. You can enter the actions you intend to take,
associate them with a project, and mark them as active, or complete.

Changes: The action input display is now scrollable for use on small
(640x480) displays. You can edit an action by right clicking on one which
has been displayed by Action/View. The weekly timebookings by project

    [068] - The Sajber Jukebox 1.10 (Stable)
      by Nerijus Baliunas (http://freshmeat.net/users/nerijus/)
      Monday, July 2nd 2001 01:52

Sajber Jukebox is a mpeg layer 3 player with a graphical user interface.
It's based on Woo-jae Jung's splay for the audio and QT's graphical library
for the interface. The Jukebox maintains pointers to songs on the local
system or the net, and when the user wishes to play it, it opens the
location and migrates the filedescriptor to the playing process. The
advantage of this scheme is that the Jukebox doesn't need to worry about
playing the darn thing, and the player won't have to worry about where the
song is, since it'll just see the filehandle given to it, and couldn't care
less of where it originally came from.

Changes: This release fixes compilation with glibc 2.2 and gcc 2.96, and
    partially updates the splay sources.

    [069] - The SCID C Debugger 0.14 (Default)
      by Richard Mills (http://freshmeat.net/users/richardmills/)
      Monday, July 2nd 2001 09:11

The SCID debugger is a tool designed to help you locate memory-related bugs
in C code. This includes both memory leaks and memory access errors due to
    reading/writing through invalid pointers.

Changes: Fixes were made for a major bug in the handling of "else if"
blocks, a bug in scope tracking for anonymous structs/unions, and a bug in
generated function naming that could result in a SCID-generated function
having illegal characters in its name. All handling of GNU compound
statement expressions was disabled. They should still be parsed and
included, but never instrumented. A bug in the instrumentation of -
dereferences on expressions was fixed. The block variable tracking code was
rewritten to eliminate some worrying inflexibilites. An attempt was made to
simplify configuration options and make them a little more flexible. The
GUI was redesigned to reflect changes in the configuration options.

    [081] - Zsh 4.0.2 (Default)
      by Peter Stephenson (http://freshmeat.net/users/PeterWStephenson/)
      Monday, July 2nd 2001 16:55

Zsh is a UNIX command interpreter (shell) which of the standard shells most
resembles the Korn shell (ksh). It includes enhancements of many types,
notably in the command-line editor, options for customising its behaviour,
filename globbing, features to make C-shell (csh) users feel more at home
and extra features drawn from tcsh.

Changes: This contains mostly minor bugfixes over the 4.0.1 release, as
detailed in the ChangeLog file, including one problem that caused the test
suite to fail. The one new feature, the option KSH_TYPESET, provides
compatibility with other shells for handling arguments of the commands
    `typeset', `export', etc.
