[001] - bchunk 1.1.0 (Default)
by Heikki Hannikainen (http://freshmeat.net/users/hessu/)
Tuesday, July 3rd 2001 07:58
bchunk, an Unix version of the BinChunker utility, converts CD images in
the raw BIN/CUE format to a set of tracks in ISO 9660 format, which can be
then written on a CD-R using cdrecord. Audio tracks are written in CDR
(native CD audio) or WAV format.
Changes: This release includes MODE2/2352/PSX support, WAV audio file
output, audio file byte order swapping, a man page, the ability to 'make
install', and some more error checking.

[002] - Class::Date 1.0.3 (Default)
by dLux (Balázs Szabó) (http://freshmeat.net/users/dlux/)
Tuesday, July 3rd 2001 08:46
Class::Date provides a date datatype for Perl. You can create new
Class::Date objects with a constructor from different scalar formats, array
refs, and hash refs, and then you can easily manipulate it by the builtin
"+" and "-" operators (e.g., $date=date([2001,03,15])+'3Y 1s'). Relative
date types also available.
Changes: The "errmsg" method now works as expected and includes an "errstr"
method as an alias.

[003] - crawl 0.1b (Default)
by Niels Provos (http://freshmeat.net/users/nielsprovos/)
Tuesday, July 3rd 2001 16:18
Crawl starts a depth-first traversal of the Web at the specified URLs. It
stores all JPEG images that match the configured constraints. Crawl is
fairly fast and allows for graceful termination. After terminating crawl,
it is possible to restart it at exactly the same spot where it was
terminated. It also keeps a persistent database that allows multiple crawls
without revisiting sites.
Changes: This release fixes a bug where crawl would stop early when
encountering errors on subsequent connections. The verbosity level and
number of concurrent connections are tunable now

DBACompanion is a graphical administration tool for Oracle databases. It
features browsing the data dictionary, drilling down from one information
to related ones, generation of SQL scripts based on data dictionary
information, and customisation of all the SQL used by the tool.
Changes: This release includes a number of new screens (locktree,
outlines), and new SQL script generation possibilities and a large number
of enhancements including more functionality in the SQL editor, and the
ability to run scripts directly from the editor.

[005] - DNHTTPD 0.4.1 (Default)
by Doug Neal (http://freshmeat.net/users/dougneal/)
Tuesday, July 3rd 2001 08:10
DNHTTPD is a lightweight and high performance HTTP server implemented in
Perl. It supports the use of virtual hosts and runs CGI scripts. It's
extremely simple to set up and configure, and performs well under heavy
load.
Changes: This release fixes a security problem where you could use hex
codes to browser higher level directories.

[006] - dot.conf 1.0.4 (stable)
by Lukas Schröder (http://freshmeat.net/users/azzit/)
Tuesday, July 3rd 2001 13:59
dot.conf is a simple configuration-file parser library written in C. The
configuration files created for dot.conf look very similar to those used by
the Apache Webserver. Even Container-Directives known from httpd.conf can
easily be used in the exact same manner as for Apache-Modules. It supports
various types of arguments, dynamically loadable modules that create their
own configuration options on-the-fly, a here-documents feature to pass very
long ARG_STR data to your app, ${NAME:-default} style environment variable
substitution for arguments, and on-the-fly inclusion of additional config
files. Some behaviour can be toggled with flags at runtime. To keep dotconf
from printing out warnings, you can install your own customized
errorhandler.
Changes: Fixes for usage of ContextChecker and/or ErrorHandler for Included
files, usage of Includepath without setting $DC_INCLUDEPATH, and a small
memory leak, and new support for Apache-compatible wildcard-matching for
Include statements (e.g., you can use "Include /etc/httpd/modules/*.conf").

[012] - Functionally Overloaded Linux Kernel 2.4.5-folk1.10 (Default)
by imipak (http://freshmeat.net/users/imipak/)
Tuesday, July 3rd 2001 14:01
The FOLK project aims to provide a single patch which incorporates as many
Linux kernel projects as can be crammed in. Its goal is to allow people who
are interested in experimenting with the different projects to get on with
the experimenting, rather than spend time fixing clashing diffs. It also
has the goal of giving some of the more obscure projects a better chance of
being seen and used. It is not intended for "general use". If a given
release is stable, that will be by sheer luck. These are experimental
projects, of unknown quality and completeness, being thrown together in
ways that the developers are unlikely to have even remotely considered.
Changes: Bugfixes so that it compiles cleanly for more of the configuration
options, updating the Alan Cox patch to ac22, and merging in the VAX
architecture.

[022] - Java Serialization to XML 0.8.12 (Default)
by Brendan Macmillan (http://freshmeat.net/users/yow/)
Tuesday, July 3rd 2001 13:36
JSX (Java Serialization to XML) gives you XML persistence and
communication. You need not change your classes or design schema or write
scripts. It just works - even if your classes have changed in the meantime.
Usage is as for Java's own Serialization. JAXB, Jato, and Castor can
require considerable setup, and Swing Serialization to XML only works for
Java Beans. JSX works for all objects, handles evolution of classes, and
needs no setup at all. You can just delegate the whole XML-side to JSX.
Changes: Ability to switch off aliases, which makes the XML more readable
and more easily processed for objects that are purely data. Warning:
circular references are not presently checked for with this option.

[025] - libferris 0.4.2 (Default)
by Ben Martin (http://freshmeat.net/users/monkeyiq/)
Tuesday, July 3rd 2001 13:32
libferris is a Virtual file system implementation that relies quite a lot
on the Extended Attributes (EA) paradigm. The design is also flexible
enough to allow internet protocols to integrate providing C++ IOStreams and
EA about each object. The design is somewhat influenced by JNDI. Currently,
only the context and native contexts work. Edb is somewhat coded, but
automounting is needed to use edb properly.
Changes: New Matchers (predicates) for EndsWith and Equals to match on EA,
and use of new matchers to expose PNG files as 32bpp RGBA data in EA, as
well as image width, height, depth, depth-per-color, has-alpha, gamma, and
aspect-ratio. The PNG image matcher is read only at the moment, though PNG
files from within edb files or native filesystems can be loaded.

[026] - libtecla 1.3.3 (Default)
by Martin Shepherd (http://freshmeat.net/users/mshepherd/)
Tuesday, July 3rd 2001 14:18
The Tecla library provides programs with interactive command line editing
facilities, similar to those of the Unix tcsh shell. It supports recall and
editing of previously entered command lines, TAB completion of file names
and application specific tokens, and in-line wild-card expansion of
filenames. The optionally reentrant modules which perform TAB completion
and wild-card expansion are also available separately for general use. The
library is smaller, more modular, makes more efficient use of the heap, and
has a less restrictive license than GNU readline.
Changes: Signal handling in gl_get_line has been rewritten, and is newly
documented in the gl_get_line man page. In addition to eliminating race
conditions and appropriately setting errno where pertinent, many more
signals are intercepted, making it less likely that the terminal will be
left in raw mode by a signal that gl_get_line doesn't trap. Intercepted
signals are resent to the calling application after restoring the terminal
settings.

[030] - Linux trustees 2.5 (Default)
by Vyacheslav L. Zavadsky (http://freshmeat.net/users/zavadsky/)
Tuesday, July 3rd 2001 13:30
The main goal of the Linux Trustees project is to create an advanced
permission management system for Linux. The solution proposed is mainly
inspired by the approach taken by Novell Netware and the Java security API.
Special objects (called trustees) can be bound to every file or directory.
The trustee object can be used to ensure that access to a file, directory,
or directory with subdirectories is granted (or denied) to a certain user
or group (or all except user or group). Trustees are like POSIX ACLs, but
trustee objects can affect entire subdirectory trees, while ACLs a single
file.

by Martin Dougiamas (http://freshmeat.net/users/moodler/)
Tuesday, July 3rd 2001 08:16
Martin's Photo Frame is a PHP4 script that automatically creates a clean
Web interface (using frames) from a directory full of JPEG, PNG and GIF
images. It creates thumbnails automatically and will use JPEG comments if
it finds them. No database or metafiles are needed.
Changes: This release now supports GIF and PNG files as well as JPG, and
better handles varying GD installations (ie. when certain file formats are
not installed, filenames or comments will be used instead of the
thumbnail).

Tuesday, July 3rd 2001 14:05
Metalog is a modern replacement for syslogd and klogd. The logged messages
can be dispatched according to their facility, urgency, program name,
and/or Perl-compatible regular expressions. Log files can be automatically
rotated when they exceed a certain size or age. External shell scripts
(e.g., mail) can be launched when specific patterns are found. Metalog is
easier to configure than syslogd and syslog-ng, accepts an unlimited number
of rules, and has (switchable) memory bufferization for maximal
performance.

by Thomas R. Koll (http://freshmeat.net/users/TomK32/)
Tuesday, July 3rd 2001 16:24
My Secret Diary is a diary or news application. It is written in PHP
(version 4 is required), and it uses files to store its data instead of a
database. It uses templates and a global configuration file to make it easy
to install and easy to upgrade. You can edit and delete the entries through
a Web interface. It also features a list with the best entries, a comment
system, and two different view-modes. It also has a few special tags for
URLs, emails, quotes, and images. Its source is modularized, and it
features a lot of comments, making it a good example for anyone who wants
to learn PHP.
Changes: The documentation has been cleaned up a bit. You can now insert a
text file, so you don't have to type your entries in the browser. There is
now an additional check before an entry is added.

[044] - Perl Site Tools 0.72 (Default)
by bpk (http://freshmeat.net/users/bpk/)
Tuesday, July 3rd 2001 08:12
The site tools package has classes to support a standard look and feel
through templates that support somewhat advanced functionality like object
method binding, custom escape/formatting functions, and basic looping and
conditionals. It also supports SQL forms with foreign key handling with
drop boxes or lists, and multiple field types like checkboxes, text boxes,
and text areas. Add/delete/edit functionality is handled by the Form
class. Tables can be created in the same way, and support auto-sorting by
using hyperlinked headers, and next/prev handling. Both forms and tables
can be bound to templates to adjust the look and feel or layout, without
losing any functionality.
Changes: This release includes more examples including a sample showing how
to use the template modules for things other than HTML by creating a LaTeX
source generator with custom escape sequences and quickvar() support, and
minor bugfixes to the template classes relating to decode_entities and
resolution of the !_ variable.
