    [002] - album 2.12 (Default)
      by DaveSource (http://freshmeat.net/users/daveola/)
      Wednesday, July 4th 2001 22:22

album is a free HTML/XHTML photo album generator that supports
themes/skins. You can choose different themes or write your own to get
different layouts and styles. It automatically crops your thumbnails, so
that they are all the same shape, and it descends into directories so you
can organize your photos. See the home page for more examples - N.B. The
purchase link is provided for donations, the software does not cost
    anything.

Changes: New abilities to generate medium size images for Web viewing and
    keep the fullsize raw images.

    [003] - ASPSeek 1.2.4 (Default)
      by Kir Kolyshkin (http://freshmeat.net/users/k001/)
      Wednesday, July 4th 2001 00:03

ASPSeek is an Internet search engine, written in C++ using the STL library.
It consists of an indexing robot, a search daemon, and a CGI search
frontend. It can index as many as a few million URLs and search for words
and phrases, use wildcards, and do a Boolean search. Search results can be
limited to time period given, site or Web space (set of sites) and sorted
by relevance (PageRanks are used) or date. ASPSeek is optimized for
multiple sites (threaded index, async DNS lookups, grouping results by
site, Web spaces), but can be used for searching one site as well. ASPSeek
can work with multiple languages/encodings at once (including multibyte
encodings such as Chinese) due to optional Unicode storage mode. Other
features include stopwords and ispell support, a charset and language
guesser, HTML templates for search results, excerpts, and query words
    highlighting.

Changes: A few cases of s.sgi hogging all memory was fixed. A searchd
coredump which occurred when only the "site:" keyword was used with section
filters was fixed. A searchd coredump which occurred when two threads tried
to reload ranks/lastmod was fixed. A wrong path in the
aspseek-mysql-postinstall script was fixed. Scheme in URL is now
case-insensitive. The loading of DB driver was fixed for a few Linux
platforms. The source tarball does not contains DOS-style end-of-lines
anymore. An option was added to searchd to set the log file name. A
MaxDocsPerServer option was added to aspseek.conf. A bug in the word stats
when using the result cache was fixed.

    [004] - Astaro Security Linux 1.920 (Beta)
      by astaro (http://freshmeat.net/users/astaro/)
      Wednesday, July 4th 2001 04:17

Astaro Security Linux is a new firewall solution. It does stateful
inspection packet filtering, content filtering, user authentication, virus
scanning, VPN with IPSec and PPTP, and much more. With its Web-based
management tool, WebAdmin, and the ability to pull updates via the
Internet, it is pretty easy to manage. It is based on a special hardened
Linux 2.4 distribution where most daemons are running in change-roots and
    are protected by kernel capabilities.

Changes: This release includes remote syslogd support, and support for
    proxy ARP and alias interfaces.

    [005] - auth_ldap 1.6.0 (Default)
      by rudedog (http://freshmeat.net/users/rudedog/)
      Wednesday, July 4th 2001 16:53

auth_ldap is an LDAP authentication module for the Apache Web server.
Auth_ldap has excellent performance, due to its use of aggressive
client-side caching algorithms. It also has support for LDAP over SS or
TLSL. It also features a mode that lets Microsoft Frontpage clients manage
their Web permissions while still using LDAP for authentication.

Changes: This release contains completely new caching algorithms that
allows apache to share its LDAP cache between httpd processes, support for
more flexible authentication (require dn directive, AuthLDAPGroupAttribute,
etc.), and support for TLS under OpenLDAP.

    [006] - bind 9.1.3 (Bind9-Stable)
      by Gael MARTINEZ (http://freshmeat.net/users/gaelik/)
      Wednesday, July 4th 2001 10:31

The Berkeley Internet Name Domain (BIND) implements an Internet name server
for Unix operating systems. The BIND consists of a server (or `daemon')
called `named' and a resolver library. A name server is a network service
that enables clients to name resources or objects and share this
information with other objects in the network.

Changes: This is a maintenance release. It contains fixes for a number of
bugs in 9.1.2, but no new features.

      by Morthoron (http://freshmeat.net/users/blackball/)
      Wednesday, July 4th 2001 12:36

The Email Administration Utilities package can be used to manage email
accounts with a series of PHP-based scripts through a browser. Addition,
Removal, and modification of accounts is possible as long as an IMAP port
is available on the mail server.

Changes: Database integration for PostgreSQL was added. The login system
was rewritten to utilize a more streamlined backend. A transaction log
backend was added. A transaction log viewer was added. The view information
screen was changed to display more information about the account. This
should help with debugging. A failure-to-delete bug that was concerning
accounts that did not have sub-folders in the mailbox was fixed. The list
users screen was updated with a cleaner interface. A transaction log menu

    [015] - FVWM 2.4.0 (Default)
      by Dan Espen (http://freshmeat.net/users/danespen/)
      Wednesday, July 4th 2001 10:01

FVWM is a multiple large virtual desktop window manager originally derived
from twm. FVWM is intended to have a small memory footprint and a rich
feature set, be extremely customizable and extendable and have a high
degree of Motif mwm compatibility. FVWM is highly extensible through its
    module interface.

Changes: One of the most significant changes is the new "Theme" module
called FvwmTheme, and the "colour sets" which include 8 kinds of gradients
and pixmap support for controlling the appearance of borders, title bars,
frames, 3D shadows, menus, and modules. Other new features include GNOME
compliance, mouse stroke support, and much greater flexibility in menu
definition and menu styles, including dynamically generated menus and some
menu generating scripts. Almost all commands take effect immediately. The
Recapture command is no longer needed to activate most changes. The old
StaysOnTop style option has been generalised into the concept of layers.
The fvwm-themes package now provides a standard set of FVWM themes. More
info is available at http://fvwm-themes.sourceforge.net/. Multi-head
    support was improved.

      by olicha (http://freshmeat.net/users/olicha/)
      Wednesday, July 4th 2001 12:27

fvwm-ewmh is made up of a module, FvwmNetHints, and a patch against the
FVWM source tree. With these, FVWM can handle Extended Window Manager Hints
from the freedesktop group. This allows, for example, running FVWM with KDE
    version 2.

Changes: The code was updated to the new major FVWM stable release. The
StrutOverride configuration option was added. The build process was cleaned

    [017] - Galeon 0.11.1 (Default)
      by menthos (http://freshmeat.net/users/menthos/)
      Wednesday, July 4th 2001 11:43

Galeon is a GNOME Web browser based on Gecko (the Mozilla rendering
engine). It is fast, has a light interface, and is fully
    standards-compliant.

Changes: This release adds support for Mozilla 0.9.2. The
downloader/launcher is now fully functional, and the MIME type system
remembers helper applications and can launch in a terminal. There is now
support for toolbar styling, and cut/copy/paste menu items (and shortcuts)
now work within the browser. There is a new option to always save session
on exit, and the handling of link opening has been made more generic, so
that shift and control modifiers work everywhere. A new context menu on
bookmarks has been added, and lots of preferences and menus were rearranged
for clarity and simplicity. Popup window blocking was improved. Folder
actions were put into a submenu, and lots of dialogs have been made
prettier and smaller (most should fit in 640x480 now). myportal has been
enhanced so that it can now do individual folders, and adds to the
back/forward menu. The default bookmarks folder is now more visible.
Slackware build scripts and package have been added, as well as a manpage.

    [020] - grsecurity 1.5 (Stable)
      by spender (http://freshmeat.net/users/spender/)
      Wednesday, July 4th 2001 13:13

grsecurity is a set of security patches for Linux 2.4 that contains all the
features of Openwall and HAP-linux, among many other patches for 2.2 and
other OSes. It features the Openwall non-executable stack, PaX, /proc
restrictions, chroot restrictions, linking and FIFO restrictions, exec and
set*id logging, secure file descriptors, trusted path execution, randomized
IP IDs, randomized PIDs, randomized TCP source ports, better IP stack
randomness, exec protection, setuid/gid restrictions, socket restrictions,
secure keymap loading, stealth networking enhancements, signal logging,
failed fork logging, time change logging, and others.

Changes: A lot of the network randomness code was rewritten to improve
speed and randomness. Randomized TTLs and altered ping IDs were added. The
random PID code was enhanced to not reuse PIDs too soon. The random IP ID
code was enhanced to not reuse IDs too soon, and to properly report to

iptoip is a program to maintain a coherent ipvsadm table. It is specially
useful when using a non-permanent Internet link or when your ISP breaks
conections to reaffect IP adresses (like in France). It use the ipvsadm
tool to build and update a forwarding table.

Changes: Usage of the "total" tag in iptoip.xml is now deprecated. The
program now detects how much conf we have, and it checks if tags are opened
and closed. The code for the update subroutine was reorganized.

    [026] - Large File HexEditor 0.3 (Default)
      by Salem Ganzhorn (http://freshmeat.net/users/salem/)
      Wednesday, July 4th 2001 11:00

lfhex (Large File Hex Editor) is a hex editor with paged input/output for
viewing and editing files which are too large for system memory. Features
include infinite undo/redo, search capabilities, a conversion dialog,
scalable working area (sane resize), fast load times, and fast save
times. lfhex only takes an additional ~1.4meg to open a 2gig file.

Changes: A binary comparison user interface was added. This allows you to
compare two files one byte or block at a time. A block is arbitrarily
defined as 2-16 consecutive bytes. You can start your comparison at
different byte offsets in the files you are comparing. An autoconf
configure script is now used for setting up system-dependent makefiles.
    Minor UI enhancements were made.

      by Thomas R. Koll (http://freshmeat.net/users/TomK32/)
      Wednesday, July 4th 2001 16:56

My Secret Diary is a diary or news application. It is written in PHP
(version 4 is required), and it uses files to store its data instead of a
database. It uses templates and a global configuration file to make it easy
to install and easy to upgrade. You can edit and delete the entries through
a Web interface. It also features a list with the best entries, a comment
system, and two different view-modes. It also has a few special tags for
URLs, emails, quotes, and images. Its source is modularized, and it
features a lot of comments, making it a good example for anyone who wants
    to learn PHP.

Changes: A bug at the demo site and another in the check page have been

    [037] - Net::Server 0.64 (Devel)
      by Paul T Seamons (http://freshmeat.net/users/rhandom/)
      Wednesday, July 4th 2001 04:16

Net::Server is an extensible class-oriented Internet server written in
Perl. The base Net::Server class contains the bulk of the functionality but
can easily be extended with subclasses, process hooks, or overridden
methods. The subclasses included with the distribution include single
process, forking server, pre-forking server, and inetd server. All
subclasses (except for inetd) allow for binding to and accepting on
multiple ports. It has the ability to read a conf file, take command line
arguments, chroot to a different directory, become another user, become
another group, maintain a pid file, and specify log file. Subclasses
contain extended functionality such as min_servers, max_servers, and
spare_servers. Written to be light but powerful, Net::Server is intended to
be the back end layer of FTP, SMTP, HTTP, ad serving, POP3, and other
services, with protocol-specific functions layered on top.

Changes: This release includes the ability to fallback to the main run
method upon server closing, clean-ups for signal processing in the PreFork
server, clean-ups of child management in the PreFork server, and
run_dequeue and dequeue methods in the PreFork server (to allow management

    [038] - NISCA 2.2 (Default)
      by Brett Baugh (http://freshmeat.net/users/Phee/)
      Wednesday, July 4th 2001 04:06

NISCA (Network Interface Statistics Collection Agent) is a more flexible
PHP4-based MRTG replacement. It supports both SNMP and reading localhost's
/proc/net/dev device file directly for statistics gathering. It uses MySQL
to store collected data in, and stores statistics for bytes transferred,
packets transferred, transfer errors, and dropped packets separated into a
per interace incoming and outgoing set. It generates both graphs and a
textual report table using the data from any timeframe contained in the
database. The entire package runs using PHP4; it uses the CGI binary
version of PHP for stats collection (running in the background as a
"daemon") and either the CGI or Apache module versions to generate the GUI
form and reports. It can also import existing MRTG logfiles.

Changes: This release includes support for multiple-interface total bytes
transferred graphing, a data re-averaging utility, multiple interface
naming methods ("ifIndex", "ifPhysAddress", etc), a Committed Information
Rate line to graphs, aliases for hosts, and one or two bugfixes.

    [040] - NuppelVideo 0.51alpha (Default)
      by Roman Hochleitner (http://freshmeat.net/users/oheszwa/)
      Wednesday, July 4th 2001 00:21

NuppelVideo is a simple low consuming and fast capture program for
bttv-cards and for the slower computers (200MHz) with MMX capability. It
uses the very fast RTjpeg2.0 codec. It has its own file format and a simple
player, and is fast enough to capture audio and video in real time. There
is also a nuv2divx and a patched version of the well-known mpeg2_movie that
can read the *.nuv format and make nice movies from it.

Changes: An audio scaler was incorporated for proper resampling. This
should improve sync. A nasty bug was hopefully fixed in the dropping
algorithm that inserted more frames than were dropped. Raw YUV I420 can now
be captured, if you have a huge hard disk. A few other bugs were fixed.

    [041] - Overflow 0.5.0 (Default)
      by Jean-Marc (http://freshmeat.net/users/jmvalin/)
      Wednesday, July 4th 2001 11:33

Overflow is a "data flow oriented" development environment. It can be use
to build complex applications by combining small, reusable building blocks.
In some way, it has similarities with Simulink and LabView, although it is
not designed to be a clone of any of them. Overflow features a GUI that
allows rapid application development and a visual debugger. Although
Overflow can be used as a rapid prototyping tool, it can still be used for
building real-time applications, such as audio effects processing. Since
overflow is not really an interpreted language, it can be quite fast.

Changes: New features include binary I/O (serialization/unserialization) of
objects, major improvements to object ASCII I/O (mostly with the Vector
type), the ability to pass any object type as a parameter from the GUI, gcc
2.96-RH support, performance improvements, fixes for Piper

build script, and a man page. It should work on most flavors of Unix.
Linux/Intel, Linux/PPC, and source RPMs are available, as are binaries for
other OSes, including Mac OS X.

Changes: A bug that would garble the last few characters of a file when the
search string had one or more spaces as the last character was fixed. Zero
is now returned on success, and error codes are returned on error.

    [054] - SILC 0.4 (Toolkit)
      by priikone (http://freshmeat.net/users/priikone/)
      Wednesday, July 4th 2001 17:02

SILC (Secure Internet Live Conferencing) is a protocol which provides
secure conferencing services in the Internet over insecure channels. SILC
superficially resembles IRC, although they are very different internally.
The purpose of SILC is to provide secure conferencing services. Strong
cryptographic methods are used to secure all traffic. The SILC is delivered
as SILC Client for end users, SILC Server for system administrators, and
    SILC Toolkit for application developers.

Changes: This release fixes the security bug when sending a private message
encrypted with pa rivate message key, adds native WIN32 support via DLL's
and LIB's, and fixes a lot of other various bugs.

    [055] - Simple Whois Daemon 3.0 (Default)
      by Dan Anderson (http://freshmeat.net/users/dananderson/)
      Wednesday, July 4th 2001 12:25

Swhoisd is a simple whois daemon that provides a whois directory service.
It is much simpler to set up and administer than the other whois daemons
available, such as RIPE whois or the original SRC whois. This is because it
uses a flat-text file instead of a complex database. This whois server is
recommended only for small databases (under 1000 records or so). This
daemon conforms to RFC 834 and uses TCP port 43 (service "whois"). It has
an ident client, Apache-like CLF logging, internationalization, and it runs
in standalone or inet daemon mode.

Changes: Lots of features have been added, including standalone mode, an
ident client, syslog logging, access logging, a Spanish message text file,
    and autoconfig.

      Wednesday, July 4th 2001 11:29

Harbour is a free, cross-platform compiler for the Xbase language. It is
designed to be as compatible with CA-Clipper as humanly possible. Harbour
ships with full source and makefiles, and combined with one of many C
compilers will create executables which run natively on the following
platforms: Linux, DOS, Windows 3.x/9x/NT/W2000, and OS/2.

Changes: NTX support was fixed and improved. OOP was improved and fixed.
The DOT prompt was enhanced with scripting engine. The HBMake utility was
enhanced. A new HBZLib library is used to provide ZIP support in Harbour.
COPY TO DELIMITED and COPY TO SDF were implemented. Support for the
HB_TR_FLUSH environment variable was added. The Harbour License is now
based on the license used for Guile 1.4. A HB_INKEY_EXTENDED keyboard input
mode was added. ADS support is now more complete. The run-time
preprocessing possibilities were extended with the TPreprocessor class.
Debugger fixes were made such that it is really usable now. OLEDB and COM
objects can now be accessed with the TOleAuto() class.

    [058] - tkgeomap 1.6.1 (Default)
      by tkgerhardus (http://freshmeat.net/users/tkgerhardus/)
      Wednesday, July 4th 2001 16:58

Tkgeomap is a set of packages that add commands to the TCL/Tk scripting
language for reading, manipulating, and displaying geographic data. TCL
batch commands perform basic geography calculations, apply projections, and
create named places and line sets. Tk commands draw maps in a canvas item
or geomap widget. Subcommands and configuration options choose data,
projection, and viewing area on displayed maps. Tkgeomap uses several input
formats described in the man pages. The tkgeomap Web site includes scripts
and source code for reading other formats such as Arcinfo and GMT.

Changes: This release contains a bugfix for commands of the form "placeName
    set {lat lon}."

      by Sandro Dentella (http://freshmeat.net/users/sdtcl/)
      Wednesday, July 4th 2001 12:37

Tksql allows you to edit the tables of PostgreSQL databases. You can use it
from the shell prompt, specifying the name of a table, or an SQL satement,
or just the name of a database. It has filter capabilities which are very
easy to use. Two views are possible (tables and form) and both views can
coexist. Tksql can edit a join of two tables (limited to the first of such
tables). It uses the sdsql package for Tcl/Tk.

Changes: The handling of table resizing was improved. The install script
was improved. An option to send bugs was added.
