    [001] - ALPINE Network devel-00028 (Development)
      by PureFiction (http://freshmeat.net/users/purefiction/)
      Saturday, July 7th 2001 08:12

The ALPINE Network is a peer-based application and network infrastructure
    designed for decentralized information location/discovery.

Changes: The generic file module is now functional. A number of scripts are
provided to interface with this module when loaded and active in the ALPINE
server. Additional modifications and fixes to the build scripts are also
included (no more problems with GUI targets).

    [002] - auto nice daemon 1.0.4 (Default)
      by P. Schemitz (http://freshmeat.net/users/schemitz/)
      Saturday, July 7th 2001 16:50

The auto nice daemon activates itself in certain intervals and renices jobs
according to their priority and CPU usage. Jobs owned by root are left
alone. Jobs are never increased in their priority. AND is very flexible.
The renice intervals can be adjusted as well as the default nice level and
the activation intervals. A priority database stores user/group/job tuples
along with their renice values for three CPU usage time ranges. The
strategy for searching the priority database can be configured. Linux,
OpenBSD, and Digital UNIX are supported.

Changes: Debian-specific extensions (minor build process improvements and a
Debian SysV init script), and a new LICENSE file.

    [003] - BlueLava 0.3.1 (Default)
      by Ian Wilkinson (http://freshmeat.net/users/sgtwilko/)
      Saturday, July 7th 2001 08:05

BlueLava is a Web and WAP (CGI-based) x10 interface. Using
commandline-based x10 tools as its backend, it allows you to control x10
compliant electronics and x10 modules from within a Web browser or a WAP
(WML)-enabled device. Uses of BlueLava include the remote control of
lamps, appliances, and other electronics via the Internet. You will need
one of the following supported backends: bottlerocket (CM17A, aka
    "firecracker"), HEYU, or PPower (CM11A).

Changes: BlueLava can now be used by a WAP (WML) device (for mobile phones
    and PDAs).

    [004] - BusyBox 0.52 (Default)
      by Erik Andersen (http://freshmeat.net/users/andersee/)
      Saturday, July 7th 2001 08:12

BusyBox combines tiny versions of many common UNIX utilities into a single
small executable. It provides minimalist replacements for most of the
utilities you usually find in GNU fileutils, shellutils, etc. The utilities
in BusyBox generally have fewer options than their full-featured GNU
cousins; however, the options that are included provide the expected
functionality and behave very much like their GNU counterparts. BusyBox
provides a fairly complete POSIX environment for any small or embedded
    system.

Changes: This release adds many bugfixes and updates, and several new
    shells.

    [005] - cdinsert and cdlabelgen 2.1.0 (Stable)
      by Avinash Chopde (http://freshmeat.net/users/avinash1/)
      Saturday, July 7th 2001 11:25

cdlabelgen generates printouts suitable for using as CD Jewel Case inserts.
Both normal-sized cases and slim cases are handled. cdlabelgen is good for
creating table of contents for music CDs, archival CDs, etc. The package
also includes a CGI Web script called cdinsert.pl, which accepts any JPG
image as the background, and can create PDF files in addition to the
    PostScript files created by cdlabelgen.

    [006] - CGI:IRC 0.4.1 (Stable)
      by David Leadbeater (http://freshmeat.net/users/dgl/)
      Saturday, July 7th 2001 15:27

CGI:IRC is a Perl/CGI program that allows you to use IRC from a Web browser
without having to have access to an IRC port. It does not use Java, but it
does need a browser capable of rendering frames. It can be used on a Web
page to allow users to chat, or it can be used to access chat from behind a
    firewall.

Changes: Several new formats have been added, admin.cgi has been fixed, and
the userlist now displays realname. Various small features have been added,
and a few things have been fixed.

    [007] - CRUX 0.9 (Default)
      by Per Liden (http://freshmeat.net/users/pli/)
      Saturday, July 7th 2001 18:41

CRUX is a lightweight, i686-optimized Linux distribution targeted at
experienced Linux users. The primary focus of this distribution is "keep it
simple", which is reflected in a simple tar.gz-based package system,
BSD-style initscripts, and a relatively small collection of trimmed
packages. The secondary focus is utilization of new Linux features and
    recent tools and libraries.

Changes: Improved package utilities, support for shadow passwords, about 25
package updates, 5 new packages, and some minor bugfixes.

    [008] - Cyrus IMAP server 2.0.15 (Default)
      by Larry Greenfield (http://freshmeat.net/users/larrygreenfield/)
      Saturday, July 7th 2001 16:49

The Cyrus IMAP is generally intended to be run on sealed servers, where
normal users are not permitted to log in. The mailbox database is stored in
parts of the filesystem that are private to the Cyrus IMAP system. All user
access to mail is through the IMAP, POP3, or KPOP protocols. The private
mailbox database design gives the server large advantages in efficiency,
scalability, and administratability. Multiple concurrent read/write
connections to the same mailbox are permitted. The server supports access
control lists on mailboxes and storage quotas on mailbox hierarchies,
multiple SASL mechanisms, and the Sieve mail filtering language.

Changes: Fixes to process reuse, and cleanups to various support code
    (ipurge, Admin.pm, deleting users).

      by Alexandre BERAUD (http://freshmeat.net/users/aberaud/)
      Saturday, July 7th 2001 15:21

Deity is a 2D role playing game using Gtk+ and Imlib2. Its aim is to give
complete freedom to the player in an autonomous world. Quests and
strategical events are randomly generated, depending on the player's
    actions.

Changes: An exchange panel for shops and thieves has been added. Important
parts of the code have been rewritten. Map building has been enhanced, and
there is a full map view. Thirst and hunger have been implemented. There
    are several bugfixes.

DFBSee is an image viewer and video player for the Linux framebuffer that
uses DirectFB. Due to the use of hardware acceleration through DirectFB, it
provides very fast and smooth zooming.

Changes: This release adds a help screen, display of the current time, the
ability to rotate images by 90 degrees, video color adjustments, support
for multiple files, and a progress bar for video playback.

      by Denis Oliver Kropp (http://freshmeat.net/users/dok666/)
      Saturday, July 7th 2001 10:30

DirectFB is a thin library that provides developers with hardware graphics
acceleration, input device handling and abstraction, an integrated
windowing system with support for translucent windows and multiple display
layers on top of the Linux framebuffer device. It is a complete hardware
abstraction layer with software fallbacks for every graphics operation that
is not supported by the underlying hardware.

Changes: This release adds image loading transparency fixes, Matrox texture
cache flush fixes for problems with anti-aliased glyphs being drawn the
first time, fixes for video mode probing, API enhancements to
    IDirectFBVideoProvider and IDirectFBDisplayLayer, etc.

    [012] - dnsadmin 0.1 (Default)
      by kbo (http://freshmeat.net/users/kbo/)
      Saturday, July 7th 2001 16:37

dnsadmin provides programs to manage DNS servers. dnsloadzone reads a bind
named.conf file, parses all the zone files found therein, and loads all the
information into a MySQL database. dnsdata reads the database and creates
a djbdns data file for use with tinydns. dnszone reads the database and
creates a named.conf and all the associated bind zone files. dnsadmin is
Web program for management of the database with authentication based on

    [013] - Dnsmasq 0.95 (Default)
      by Simon Kelley (http://freshmeat.net/users/simonkelley/)
      Saturday, July 7th 2001 10:28

Dnsmasq is small utility designed to provide DNS (domain name) services to
a small network connected to the internet via a NAT (network address
translation, AKA ip-masquerade) firewall and a modem connection. Since a
NAT firewall will pass DNS queries it's perfectly possible for all the
machines on such a network to be configured to talk directly to the ISP's
name server, but doing that has problems such as long timeouts when not
connected to the ISP. Dnsmasq provides a better solution which solves the
    problems.

Changes: This is a major rewrite to remove calls to gethostbyname and talk
directly to the upstream servers instead. It now supports all DNS query
types and honors Time to Live information. It can now be configured to
cache DNS lookups for the machine on which it is running, and it supports
automatic DNS configuration via PPP or DHCP. It is now available in a
    Debian package.

    [014] - Dynamic snort log 2 iptables 0.1 (Development)
      by Alexander Newald (http://freshmeat.net/users/alexandernewald/)
      Saturday, July 7th 2001 07:53

Dynamic snort log 2 iptables (DSLI) watches the snort logfile, and adds
new rules to your iptable ruleset when a new host is seen in the snort
logfile. Each job is done by forking to avoid missing of important
loglines in the snortlogfile. The prog is written in Perl, and ready to
run. Settings are done by one config file.

    [015] - Fastduplex 0.5 (beta) (Default)
      by Jeremy Shawley (http://freshmeat.net/users/jshawley/)
      Saturday, July 7th 2001 02:02

Fastduplex is a csh script that makes changing the duplex mode of ec/ef
interfaces in IRIX much simpler. Usually, you have to edit a file in
/var/sysgen/master.d, and pick out all kinds of strange variables. This
script will do all of that for you, backup the original files, and
recompile the kernel. All you have to do is reboot.

      by Joerg Mueller (http://freshmeat.net/users/ponders/)
      Saturday, July 7th 2001 19:07

FreeMind a Mindmapping tool and an intuitive editor for tree-structured
data. The design is modular, so FreeMind can be used to edit any kind of
data, dependent on the current mode. The data is represented to the user as
a Mind map, while data, behavior, node style, edge style, color, etc. are
    determined by the mode.

Changes: This release adds printing, drag and drop, a "last opened files"
list, support for history buttons (for the browser applet), support for
"patterns", and selection of multiple nodes and whole branches.

Gaby is a small personal database manager using GTK+ and GNOME (if
available) for its GUI. It was designed to provide straight-forward access
to the types of databases a casual user would normally use, while keeping
the ability to easily create databases for other needs. It was designed
with extensibility in mind and relies heavily on plug-ins.

      by James A. Pattie (http://freshmeat.net/users/pcxuser/)
      Saturday, July 7th 2001 07:55

The HTMLObject is a set of Perl modules which provide the ability to create
Dynamic HTML documents (Framesets, DHTML, etc.). You can generate your code
without having to do cookies first, then JavaScript, then the body. As long
as the content is output in the correct order, you can generate JavaScript
or cookies at any point since the output is not sent to the server until
you call the display() method. It attempts to fully support HTML 4.x.
Helper methods are provided to do cookies, URI encoding, etc.

Changes: CSS support is now generically available; use setStyleEntry to
work with your CSS section. The template module has been updated to be
CSS-aware. The cgi_lib.pm has been moved into HTMLObject::CGILib (this

[027] - Java Serialization to XML 0.8.13 (Default)
      by Brendan Macmillan (http://freshmeat.net/users/yow/)
      Saturday, July 7th 2001 04:54

JSX (Java Serialization to XML) gives you XML persistence and
communication. You need not change your classes or design schema or write
scripts. It just works - even if your classes have changed in the meantime.
Usage is as for Java's own Serialization. JAXB, Jato, and Castor can
require considerable setup, and Swing Serialization to XML only works for
Java Beans. JSX works for all objects, handles evolution of classes, and
needs no setup at all. You can just delegate the whole XML-side to JSX.

Changes: Cleaned up some test code that was accidentally left in. This had
an effect for compiling under gcc 3.0's gcj (open source java compiler).

    [029] - kcd 5.7.0 (Development)
      by lerdsuwa (http://freshmeat.net/users/lerdsuwa/)
      Saturday, July 7th 2001 15:19

kcd is a directory change utility similar to NCD. It helps you navigate the
directory tree. You can also supply part of the desired directory name in
the command line and let kcd find it for you.

Changes: This release contains experimental FHS support. Some files are now
installed in different directories if a FHS-compliant directory structure
is detected. There is an experimental kcd-inst program for updating user's
shell startup files. Compilation with GCC 3.0 is now supported. Some
changes in configuration file handling (uses sysconfdir instead of a
hardcoded directory name) and malloc.h header portability from the FreeBSD

    [031] - LAM/MPI 6.5.3 (Default)
      by Jeff Squyres (http://freshmeat.net/users/jsquyres/)
      Saturday, July 7th 2001 08:00

LAM/MPI is an implementation of the Message Passing Interface (MPI)
parallel standard that is especially friendly to clusters. It includes a
persistent run-time environment for parallel programs, support for all of
MPI-1 (except MPI_Canceling sent messages), and a good chunk of MPI-2, such
    as spawn, one-way communication, C++ bindings, and MPI-IO. LAM/MPI 6.4.x
includes support for Interoperable MPI (IMPI).

Changes: This release adds minor fixes in the build/install procedures for
ROMIO, fixes for duplicate symbols errors when compiling either of the
shared memory RPIs as a shared library, and elimination of the unnecessary
-I/-L arguments from mpicc and mpif77 when the $prefix is /usr. This is a
minor bugfix release only, mainly dealing with issues in the
configuration/installation of LAM/MPI. In general, if you have a working
installation of LAM/MPI, there is little reason to upgrade.

NuppelVideo is a simple low consuming and fast capture program for
bttv-cards and for the slower computers (200MHz) with MMX capability. It
uses the very fast RTjpeg2.0 codec. It has its own file format and a simple
player, and is fast enough to capture audio and video in real time. There

oSpam is an anti-spam system based on Perl, qmail, and, optionally,

a delay, the mails sent to your address will be put in quarantine waiting
for a confirmation, or/and can be used as your main email address: all your

      by Michelle Brownsworth (http://freshmeat.net/users/michelle47/)
      Saturday, July 7th 2001 08:02

POPauthd is a Perl-based daemon that uses POP to authorize connecting hosts
for SMTP relaying. It is particularly useful to authenticate roaming users
with IP addresses that change often. The daemon runs in the background,
watching the syslog for successful POP logins. When it sees one it enters
the IP in sendmail's access database, giving the host authorization to
relay through the server. The entries can be expired after a prescribed,
configurable period of time with a companion script run via crontab.

[059] - The Ark Roleplaying Kernel 0.0.4 (Default)
      by Quentin Merigot (http://freshmeat.net/users/nekeme/)
      Saturday, July 7th 2001 08:13

The Ark Roleplaying Kernel is a roleplaying engine that will allow game
developers to create a full- featured role playing game, without having to
write a single line of C++. All they have to do is to create game data
(models, textures, world), and define the behaviour NPCs, in javascript.
The engine contains a full outdoor 3D engine, with support for skeletal
animation, and triangle- accurate collision detection. It also contains
tools to create world and quests, and loaders for the most common
    low-polygon 3D formats.

    [060] - Tksql 0.5.16 (Default)
      by Sandro Dentella (http://freshmeat.net/users/sdtcl/)
      Saturday, July 7th 2001 07:59

Tksql allows you to edit the tables of PostgreSQL databases. You can use it
from the shell prompt, specifying the name of a table, or an SQL satement,
or just the name of a database. It has filter capabilities which are very
easy to use. Two views are possible (tables and form) and both views can
coexist. Tksql can edit a join of two tables (limited to the first of such
tables). It uses the sdsql package for Tcl/Tk.

Changes: This release improves the handling of colors and tags. There's no
more need to stick to the 2.5 release of TkTable.

    [062] - TrustWall HTTP Proxy 0.9-1 (Default)
      by Sam Ng (http://freshmeat.net/users/samngms/)
      Saturday, July 7th 2001 10:35

TrustWall HTTP Proxy is developed to help protect web servers (and web
browser clients) by checking the HTTP protocol header data. The design has
already put most modern web base attacks into consideration, and hence
can protect most web servers without any in-depth knowledge about the
attacking techniques. On the other hand, the script-like configuration
file also makes the proxy very flexible and can fit into many different,
    special environments.

    [063] - TwoFTPd 1.06 (stable)
      by Bruce Guenter (http://freshmeat.net/users/bruceguenter/)
      Saturday, July 7th 2001 08:02

Twoftpd is an FTP server that strives to be secure, simple, and efficient.
None of the commands can cause execution of other programs, and the normal
model of execution does a chroot to the logged in user's directory
immediately after authentication. The name "twoftpd" comes from the fact
that there are two parts to the server: an authenticating front end,
which contains no file or data transfer code, and one of two back ends,
which contain all the data transfer code.

Changes: This release fixes a one-off bug in doing pattern listings that
caused all the resulting filenames to be prefixed with a "/", and some
    portability problems for non-Linux systems.

    [064] - Unison 2.6.59 (Default)
      by Benjamin C. Pierce (http://freshmeat.net/users/bcpierce/)
      Saturday, July 7th 2001 10:21

Unison is a file-synchronization tool for Unix and Windows. It allows two
copies of a collection of files and directories to be stored on different
hosts (or different disks on the same host), modified separately, and then
brought up to date by propagating the changes in each replica to the other.
Unison can deal with updates to both replicas of a distributed directory
structure. Updates that do not conflict are propagated automatically.
Conflicting updates are detected and displayed. Unison can communicate
through a direct socket link or through an rsh/ssh tunnel. It uses network
    bandwidth efficiently.

Changes: This beta release introduces three major new features: much faster
update detection on Windows, local archiving of old versions of files, and
file-level merging in case of conflicts, using an external merge program of
the user's choice (ediff, vdiff, etc.).

Video Disk Recorder (VDR) is a excellent digital sat-reciever program using
Linux and DVB-S technologies. Is is also possible to record MPEG2 streams.

Changes: Avoiding "Device or resource busy" error message when setting
PIDs, new Portugese language texts, recording and replaying Dolby Digital
(AC3) sound, and a fix for getting stuck when a channel doesn't sync while

      by rvmsoft (http://freshmeat.net/users/rvmsoft/)
      Saturday, July 7th 2001 15:26

Wordtrans is a frontend for several dictionaries. It supports some plain
    text dictionaries such as i2e (English-Spanish) and de-en (German-English),
Babylon Translator dictionaries, and dict servers dictionaries. Some
features include console and X (Qt) versions, good speed, and the ability
to watch the clipboard and automatically translate the word there.

Changes: The Spanish translation didn't work well with the KDE 2.1

    [067] - XotclIDE 0.17 (Default)
      by Xdobry (http://freshmeat.net/users/arturt/)
      Saturday, July 7th 2001 16:36

XotclIDE is an integrated (interactive) development environment for the
XOTcl language, a highly flexible object-oriented extension of Tcl. It
provides a Smalltalk-like programming environment similar to Visual Works,
Envy, or Visual Age, and graphical introspection and editing of a running
system (based on Tcl's and XOTcl's introspection facilities). The system
state can be saved in the form of Tcl packages. It can optionally use a
version control system based on MySQL. All system changes are saved to the
database on the fly. It provides browsers for viewing and editing xotcl
    classes and objects.

    [068] - Xrefactory 1.4.5 (Default)
      by Marian Vittek (http://freshmeat.net/users/vittek/)
      Saturday, July 7th 2001 08:11

Xrefactory is a refactoring source browser for Emacs/XEmacs providing basic
source navigation, intellisense code completion, on-line info on symbol
type, safe renaming, function argument manipulations, and extraction of a
piece of code into a separate function. Xrefactory is based on full
pre-processing, parsing, and static analyzing of sources. It works for C
and Java languages, and contains stand-alone cross referencer and generator
    of HTML documentation.

Changes: Nearly all known bugs have been fixed. This is the most stable

    [069] - xtrs 4.6 (Default)
      by Tim Mann (http://freshmeat.net/users/timmann/)
      Saturday, July 7th 2001 18:44

xtrs is a Radio Shack TRS-80 Model I/III/4/4P emulator for Unix and the X
Window System. It includes lower case, the real time clock, hi-res
graphics, serial port, parallel printer, mouse, cassette, sound and music
output (requires OSS), 5" and 8" floppy disk drives, and even hard disk
drives. The emulated floppy and hard disk file formats are compatible with
the popular MSDOS-based emulators by Jeff Vavasour, Matthew Reed, and David
Keil. Under Linux, physical floppy disk drives are also supported. Physical
cassettes can even be read and written.

Changes: Improved keyboard handling, and a few other minor tweaks and

    [070] - YapBB's Tags class 2.17 (Default)
      by Tuinhark (http://freshmeat.net/users/arnovdk/)
      Saturday, July 7th 2001 08:04

YapBB's Tags class has functionality typically found in discussion board
systems ('forums'). YBBtags originates from the YapBB forum system. Class
objects can easily process text by specifying the actions to perform on the
represented text. These include PHP code highlighting (both PHP3 and PHP4),
lists, simple formatting, IRC-style schizophrenia, division of the
represented text into quote/code blocks, handling of smilies, and more.
Actions can be specified at run time, e.g. depending on variables defined
    in the calling script.

Changes: In this release, $operations is first inspected for operators (in
processTypes()), then individual actions are taken in a predefined
sequence. Previously, altering this sequence would cause problems.
s are now added based on the $OP_NBSP operator, not on the
$OP_NL2BR operator. Simple markup tags processing for PHP3 is now 100%
    equal to PHP4.
