[001] - ACP modem (Mwave) driver 20010714 (Stable)
      by Steve Fox (http://freshmeat.net/users/drfickle/)
      Monday, July 16th 2001 16:10

About: This is a set of Linux drivers for the ACP modem (Mwave), a
WinModem. It is composed of a loadable kernel module and a user level
application. Together these components support direct attachment to public
switched telephone networks (PSTNs) and support selected world wide
countries. This driver provides support for the IBM ThinkPad 600E. The
modem also supports the standard communications port interface (ttySx) and
is compatible with the Hayes AT Command Set.

Changes: This release includes the latest device driver source code, which
includes locking fixes among other fixes and changes. mwavedd module
parameters are now prefixed with tp3780i_. The mwaved script has been
updated to work with the driver either built as a module or built into the
kernel proper. It also uses new module parameter names. Autoconfiscated
code improves and simplifies build and install. A race condition in mwavem
has been fixed. v90.dsp, which provides 56K functionality, has been brought
up to date. The Mwave mini-HOWTO has been updated. A FAQ is now included.

    [002] - AikSaurus 0.08 (Default)
      by Aiken (http://freshmeat.net/users/aiken11/)
      Monday, July 16th 2001 04:12

Category: Text Editors :: Word Processors

About: AikSaurus is a thesaurus library intended for word processors, email
composers, and so forth. It is based on Project Guttenberg's Moby
thesaurus, but is highly compressed and pruned to bring datafile disk space
requirements down to 2.4 megs. Features include part-of-speech information
    and alphabetically-similar known words lists.

    [003] - Andromeda 1.6.3 (Default)
      by Scott Matthews (http://freshmeat.net/users/turnstyle/)
      Monday, July 16th 2001 03:31

About: Andromeda dynamically converts folders and subfolders of MP3s into
an easy-to-use Web site with dynamic playlist generation. Other supported
formats include WMA, OGG, MPG, AVI, WMV, and many more. It's great as a
personal jukebox, on a local network, and over the Internet (bandwidth
permitting). Additional features include skins, custom playlists,
logons/accounts, and a search tool. No database is required. ASP and PHP
    versions are available.

Changes: The playlist & logon features have been modified to compensate for
bugs in certain Web servers and browsers, new Real Media and other new file
types, ability to turn off the file links and/or the play buttons, initial
CSS support, and the PHP version works with the optimized ini.

    Category: Education

About: asigna receives information about the schedule of a school and some
of its constraints, and with that it tries to arrange a schedule that
satisfy the contraints. It is highly portable and has a simple plain
interface (for the moment the messages for the user are in Spanish).

    [005] - Astaro Security Linux 1.822 (PC)
      by astaro (http://freshmeat.net/users/astaro/)
      Monday, July 16th 2001 07:12

Category: System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: Astaro Security Linux is a new firewall solution. It does stateful
inspection packet filtering, content filtering, user authentication, virus
scanning, VPN with IPSec and PPTP, and much more. With its Web-based
management tool, WebAdmin, and the ability to pull updates via the
Internet, it is pretty easy to manage. It is based on a special hardened
Linux 2.4 distribution where most daemons are running in change-roots and
    are protected by kernel capabilities.

Changes: This release integrates Virus Pattern Up2Date, and fixes the "gpg
kill" and "too much memory" issue in Selfmonitor.

    [006] - atool 0.9.0 (Default)
      by Oskar Liljeblad (http://freshmeat.net/users/osk/)
      Monday, July 16th 2001 11:19

About: atool is a script for managing file archives of various types (tar,
tar+gzip, zip, etc). The main command is probably 'aunpack' which extracts
files from an archive. It overcomes the dreaded "multiple files in archive
root" problem by first extracting to a unique subdirectory, and then moving
back the files if possible. aunpack also prevents local files from being
overwritten by mistake. Other commands provided are apack (for creating
archives), als (for listing files in archives), and acat (for extracting
    files to stdout).

Changes: Verbosity control was improved. The software now identifies
.tar.gz and other archives using file(1). Configuration information was
added to the man page. A --config option was added. The temporary
extraction directory is now removed on exit. The program now refuses to
overwrite existing files when creating archives. Other small fixes were
    made.

    [007] - cdinsert and cdlabelgen 2.1.2 (Stable)
      by Avinash Chopde (http://freshmeat.net/users/avinash1/)
      Monday, July 16th 2001 19:18

About: cdlabelgen generates printouts suitable for using as CD Jewel Case
inserts. Both normal-sized cases and slim cases are handled. cdlabelgen is
good for creating table of contents for music CDs, archival CDs, etc. The
package also includes a CGI Web script called cdinsert.pl, which accepts
any JPG image as the background, and can create PDF files in addition to
the PostScript files created by cdlabelgen.

Changes: better word wrap in cdlabelgen and -f with just one line is
accepted, larger bottom offset should make printouts with A4 paper better
in template.ps, and -p clips text by leaving out entire characters instead
of chopping a character at the edge.

    Category: Database

About: The DBIWrapper is a Perl Module that provides for easier access to
databases using DBI. It supports MySQL, PostgreSQL, and ODBC DBD modules.
High level methods for reading, writing, commiting, and rolling back
transactions to the database are provided. DBI data structures are still
    used.

About: dbSessions allows you to use sessions with any version of PHP, using
same function names as in PHP4. It stores session data in a database, using
a database abstraction library you'll also find on phpHeaven.

Changes: 'data' has been replaced by 'vars' in the table definition to
avoid problem with old versions of MySQL in which 'data' is a restricted
keyword. This release tests for registered variables in a session before
trying to use any. A return in PHP4's 'session_save()' function and a
    PEAR-style header have been added.

    [011] - Dynamic Probes 2.2.0 (Default)
      by Steve Fox (http://freshmeat.net/users/drfickle/)
      Monday, July 16th 2001 14:28

About: Dynamic Probes (Dprobes) is a generic and pervasive system debugging
facility that will operate under the most extreme software conditions such
as debugging a deep-rooted operating system problem in a live environment.
Dprobes allows the insertion of fully automated breakpoints or probepoints
anywhere in the system and user space. Each probepoint has an associated
set of probe instructions that are interpreted when the probe fires. These
instructions allow memory and CPU registers to be examined and altered
using conditional logic. When the probe command terminates, prior to
returning to the probed code, a syslog record may be optionally generated.

Changes: Please see the changelog for details.

About: Echelon allows the Web developer to modify database information
very quickly when using HTML forms. By simply posting your HTML form to
this script, Echelon creates the SQL script on the fly and redirects back
to whatever file you give it.

Changes: There are quite a few new features in this release, including
enhanced security, a default error page, more error checking, and much
    more.

    [013] - Enca 0.9.3 (Unstable)
      by David Necas (Yeti) (http://freshmeat.net/users/yeti2/)
      Monday, July 16th 2001 11:08

    Category: Other/Nonlisted Topic

About: Enca determines encoding of text files, provided you tell it their
language. Then it can convert them to other encodings, allowing you to
recode files without knowing their current encoding. It supports Czech,
    Russian, and Slovak encodings.

Changes: Fixes were made for random reporting of nonsense results, poor
performance on non-GNU/Linux systems, several compile-time/portability
issues, and other small problems. A Debian package has been created.

    [014] - ftpq 1.03 (Stable)
      by Mark Tranchant (http://freshmeat.net/users/marktranchant/)
      Monday, July 16th 2001 16:38

About: ftpq allows users to queue ftp upload requests for processing when a
network connection is available. Useful for web authors with a dial-up link
to the net, for example: just queue any changed files and have them
    automatically uploaded on dial-up.

Changes: This release uses GNU autoconf for configuration, compilation, and
installation, and has better portability. Bandwidth limiting for sharing
on cable modems, etc. has been added.

      by olicha (http://freshmeat.net/users/olicha/)
      Monday, July 16th 2001 16:41

Category: Desktop Environment :: Window Managers

About: fvwm-ewmh is made up of a module, FvwmNetHints, and a patch against
the FVWM source tree. With these, FVWM can handle Extended Window Manager
Hints from the freedesktop group. This allows, for example, running FVWM
    with KDE version 2.

Changes: This release detects when a window changes its net icon hint (as
konqueror does). Mini-icons management is much faster. imlib2 can be used
    instead of imlib.

      by Andrew Kempe (http://freshmeat.net/users/andrewkempe/)
      Monday, July 16th 2001 10:28

Category: Communications :: Chat :: Internet Relay Chat

About: Services for IRC Networks (or just Services for short) provides for
definitive nickname and channel ownership, automatic channel mode setting,
memo (short message) storage and retrieval, and greater IRC operator
    control over the network.

Changes: A -no-dir-check option was added to the configure script. Using
the ChanServ OP or IDENTIFY commands now updates the channel's last used
time. A workaround for another strtok() bug in glibc 2.2.2 was added. The
warnings generated when compiling with DEBUG_COMMANDS defined have been
fixed. The compilation problem when using the "-use-local-funcs" option
with ./configure on a glibc system was fixed. The STATS UPTIME command for
OperServ was made into an alias for STATS (by itself). A bug which caused
OperServ STATS to report statistics even when an option (other than ALL) is
given has been fixed. Bugs in the handling of the RFC1459/TS8 USER command

[064] - Smarty PHP template engine 1.4.4 (Default)
      by Monte Ohrt (http://freshmeat.net/users/mohrt/)
      Monday, July 16th 2001 19:43

    Category: Software Development

About: Smarty is a template engine for PHP. Many other template engines for
PHP provide basic variable substitution and dynamic block functionality.
Smarty takes a step further to be a "smart" template engine, adding
features such as configuration files, template functions, and variable
modifiers, and making all of this functionality as easy as possible to use
for both programmers and template designers. Smarty also converts the
templates into PHP scripts, eliminating the need to parse the templates on
every invocation. This makes Smarty extremely scalable and managable for
    large application needs.

Changes: Integration of overLib for easy integration of pop-up windows,
