    [001] - AMC (ATOM Module Compiler) 3.7.2
      by Mark Grosberg (http://freshmeat.net/users/myg/)
      Wednesday, July 25th 2001 11:29

About: AMC is a programmable compiler/preprocessor. It has a built-in
programming language called CGL (Code Generation Language) that lets you
add new syntactical elements to the source files that AMC processes. In
addition, AMC has a module structure reminescent of the UCSD p-System
compiler. AMC comes with a default package that adds a dynamic form of OOP
    to C.

Changes: A number of bugs in the CGL runtime have been fixed. In addition,
a Windows NT port is now available.

    [007] - Cymbaline 0.9b
      by rainy (http://freshmeat.net/users/rainy/)
      Wednesday, July 25th 2001 04:07

About: Cymbaline is a console mp3 player with weighted lists. Each track
has a score associated with it. Scores can be used in several ways: random
mode will play tracks with high scores more often; you can skip to the next
track with high score; you can set a threshold so that only tracks with
certain score (or higher) will be played. Scores are changed based on
listening patterns (skipping a track decreases the score, playing complete
track increases it), but may be also set manually. Additionally, cymbaline
uses an original album-oriented playlist (you can skip to the next album,
start playing specific album, etc). Cymbaline also allows easy searching on
    a playlist.

Changes: Since the last announcement, weighted playlists were added (i.e.
it learns your tastes and can be told to play only favourite songs).
Cymbaline now works with python 2.0+. Multiple bugs have been fixed (see
CHANGES file), and there's limited support now for ogg and mod files.

      by Charles Samuels (http://freshmeat.net/users/njordfet/)
      Wednesday, July 25th 2001 02:27

About: Intra-Thread Communication (ITC) aims to make it exceedingly easy

    simple, clean, and highly portable.

Changes: The mkenv.sh and addjailuser.sh have been fully rewritten in Perl,
so they should be more portable. This should also fix some bugs that arise

applications for Linux. Using this libary you don not have to code
individual gtk widgets - the libary will just map them straight to a data
    source.

Changes: Drop down box code revampted. Client side caching added. Object to
object relationships tided up. Added more widget support. Many bug fixes.

    [028] - Mailchain 0.4
      by Andy Kruger (http://freshmeat.net/users/andycapp/)
      Wednesday, July 25th 2001 11:52

Category: Communications :: Email :: Filters

About: Mailchain is a modular email filter/scanner, it integrates into your
mail server software and processes each message as it passes through. Each
message passes through a "chain" of check modules that do things like scan
headers, body content, attachment filenames or pass the message through an
external virus scanner (not included). A number of actions can be taken on
messages depending on the outcome of results, including quarantine,
    deletion and/or notification messages.

Changes: Modularity was increased. Seperate configuration files are now

    [030] - MPI Ruby 0.2
      by Emil Ong (http://freshmeat.net/users/eboatanl/)
      Wednesday, July 25th 2001 18:43

Categories: Scientific/Engineering, Software Development :: Libraries

About: MPI Ruby is a Ruby binding of MPI. The primary goal in making this
binding was to make the power of MPI available to Ruby users in a way that
fits into the language's object oriented model. In order to do this, the
buffer and datatype management necessary in the C, C++, and Fortran
bindings have been removed. What this means is that MPI Ruby allows you
to treat objects as messages. MPI Ruby also aims to be a complete binding
to MPI, in that it offers access to nearly all functionality of MPI.

Changes: Fixes to the build and configure system, new examples and
documentation, and some fixes in the binding itself.

    [046] - SANTK 2.1
by University of Minnesota Fibre Channel Research Group
    (http://freshmeat.net/users/umfc/)
      Wednesday, July 25th 2001 14:20

About: SANTK (Storage Area Network Configuration Toolkit) is a toolkit
written in Java 1.3 to better facilitate SAN design and development. The
major areas of difficulty in SAN design lie in the architecture of the SANs
themselves. Scalability, network complexity, and netlist management become
cumbersome as the number of nodes in the network increases. In order to
address these problems, it is necessary to be able to dynamically design
and record the topology of a network. The purpose of the SANTK is to assist
    in resolving these issues.

Changes: This release has the ability to add Targets and Initiators to the
manual tool, allowing the user to completely develop a SAN in a CAD
environment. The user may now export the entire SAN to the automatic tool,
including Targets and Initiators. New devices available in this version
    include 32 and 64 port switches, 1, 2, 4 and 8 port Targets, and 1 and 2
port Initiators. Device sizes may be changed at any time as well. An
HTML-based help system was created. If the user selects the help option,
the default Web browser is launched with the first of several detailed help
    files.

About: seven's IPtables script features extensive logging of all connection
attempts, user-definable log-levels, protection against various DoS
attacks, detection of multiple portscan types, user-defined trusted hosts,
    and user-defined "open"-ports.

Changes: Some issues with the order of the rules were fixed. Specifically,
hosts explicitly blocked could still go through the firewall if the
connection was established or related. The 10 items problem concerning the
variables was fixed. A nasty typo which screwed up a lot of code from
blockhosts, trusthosts, and openports was fixed. A variable that allows you
to choose between UDP/TCP "open"-ports was added. The order of some code

      by aotto (http://freshmeat.net/users/aotto/)
      Wednesday, July 25th 2001 12:15

About: "Compiler" has been developed to compile script applications. To
compile means creating syntactically correct and optimized code as a native
executable. The goal is to give the customer the ability to sell script
based software with the same security and speed as traditional projects,
but with the flexibility and the easyness of a modern script based
technology. "Compiler" focus on Tcl and C, with the possibility to add
    additional languages.

Changes: The package tool was updated with user-interface improvements and
bug fixes. Another action mode was added to the find/grep/change tool. The
main distribution is now smaller because more parts were separated as
"Plugins", including CctPerf, CctTest, CctFind, TkCon, and TclReadline. A
new "CompTest" tool is now available for testing the compatibilty of
"PowerTcl" with traditional Tcl. The new "CompPerf" tool is now available

      by Criswell (http://freshmeat.net/users/criswell/)
      Wednesday, July 25th 2001 14:22

    Categories: Education, Games/Entertainment

About: TuxTyping is an educational typing tutorial game starring Tux, the
Linux Penguin. The player guides Tux to eat fish which are falling from the
top of the screen. Each fish has a letter or a word written on it. When the
player presses the corresponding key, or types the appropriate word, Tux
will position himself to eat the fish. The game is intended for children
learning to type and to spell, though it does have higher difficulty levels
which even experienced typists may find challenging.

    Category: Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content

About: Weather Plotter is a program for anyone who likes to gather, track,
and look at historical weather data. It uses PHP to gather weather
information from the US National Weather Service Web site on an hourly
basis, then allows you to view that weather data in several convenient
graphical charts within your Web browser. Charts are generated in real-time
using the PNG format, and can be easily customized. Supports PostgreSQL,
MySQL, Oracle, Access, MSSQL, and others for data storage.

Changes: Vastly improved and tested MySQL support, new hourly and daily
graphs featuring barometric pressure and dewpoint, an expanded statistics
section with average (arithmetic mean) high and low temperatures, median
high and low temperatures, and similar measurements for barometric
pressure, humidity, and dewpoint, and new analysis of the accuracy of the
    24-hour temperature forecast.
