    [001] - 6's Spiffy AudioGalaxy Query Tool 0.5
      by 6 (http://freshmeat.net/users/num6/)
      Friday, July 27th 2001 10:09

    Category: Communications :: File Sharing

About: 6's Spiffy AudioGalaxy Query Tool is a package that automates
queries to the AudioGalaxy music sharing system. It enables you to queue
any song (at a minimum configurable bitrate) with one command line, even
if the AudioGalaxy site is busy or unresponsive. It will also allow you to
queue most full albums with one command line, by going on AllMusic.Com to
look up the song list, and queueing up each of the songs listed.

Changes: "am" now retrieves the complete album list, including albums that
you have to "click here for more" to see. You can now request to download
"Song Highlights" from "am." "ag" can now accept a second command line
parameter to tell it to skip the first couple of versions of a song, and to
    let you download alternate versions.

Categories: Security, System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: The Analysis Console for Intrusion Databases (ACID) is a PHP-based
analysis engine to search and process a database of incidents generated by
security-related software such as IDSes and firewalls (e.g., Snort or
ipchains). It provides a search interface for finding alerts matching
practically any criteria. This includes arrival time, signature time,
source/dest address/port, flags, payload, etc. ACID also provides the
ability to annotate and logically group related events, delete false
positives, or archive alerts among databases. Finally, a variety of
statistics and graphs can be generated based on time, IP address, ports,
    alert classification, and sensor.

    [003] - Addendat pre0.4
      by Deekoo L. (http://freshmeat.net/users/deekoo/)
      Friday, July 27th 2001 13:02

    Category: Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: Addendat is a weblogging (blogging) program that can accept updates
from either a CGI interface or a shell interface. Additions are stored in
the 'blogs pages HTML, so you can edit both entries and design in any
ordinary text editor. Addendat is configured using a simple HTML-like
config file format. Addendat supports multiple blogs; if you want, you can
even put them on the same page. It does not require Java or Javascript.
Addendat can publicize additions on a central hub, so web users can
    readily find recently-updated blogs.

Changes: This version introduces a comment system, an option to turn off
Hub publicization if you're using the command-line blogging tool, and file
    locking everywhere.

Categories: Software Development :: Code Generators, Text Editors ::
    Documentation

About: Alma is a software workshop for modeling and analyzing. It reads
several sources (languages, models, etc.), helps you design for
object-oriented modeling (definition of classes, relations, patterns,
etc.), modifies the structure and the code, and outputs new sources,
documentation, diagrams, etc. It is designed for object-oriented
modelization (definition of classes and relations) and for migrating code
in older languages. It meets two needs, offering a simplified software
modeling workshop for small projects and making it easier to do rewrites,
ports, and encapsulation of non-OO code.

Changes: This new release brings the target SrcHtml to produce HTML from
any source code, a support for XSD (XML Schema, parser and generator, alpha
status), a font selector for diagrams, and some bug fixes. The source code
    has been completely reorganized.

      Friday, July 27th 2001 11:41

About: Andromeda dynamically converts folders and subfolders of MP3s into
an easy-to-use Web site with dynamic playlist generation. Other supported
formats include WMA, OGG, MPG, AVI, WMV, and many more. It's great as a
personal jukebox, on a local network, and over the Internet (bandwidth
permitting). Additional features include skins, custom playlists,
logons/accounts, and a search tool. No database is required. ASP and PHP
    versions are available.

Changes: Andromeda can now read ID3 tags (ID3v1, ID3v1.1, and ID3v2), as

      Friday, July 27th 2001 11:39

Category: Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Ripping

About: cdmp3 uses cdparanoia to extract single tracks or even a whole CD,
and converts them on-the-fly into MP3. These MP3 files are encoded with a
variable bitrate between 32 and 256 kBit/sec (change it in the script if
you prefer other values). The first and last track to be extracted, and
the path where the files should be written to, are given on the command
line, or asked by the script.

Changes: The shell script was tidied up, and some explanatory files were

      Friday, July 27th 2001 18:04

Category: Communications :: Chat :: Internet Relay Chat

About: Dagos Instant Messaging Experiment is a script that checks a given
file at an interval of 2.5 seconds for text. If the file does not exist
or is empty, nothing happens. If there are one or more lines of text in
the file, the script takes your nick on the IRC-server you are connected
to, and sends a PRIVMSG (Query) to you (so if your nick is foo, it is a
message from foo to foo). If there are multiple lines of input, a new

      by rijo (http://freshmeat.net/users/rijo/)
      Friday, July 27th 2001 12:16

About: DTD to XML Schema translator lets you translate a Document Type
Definition into an XML Schema (REC-xmlschema-1-20010502). The translator
can map meaningful DTD entities onto XML Schema constructs (simpleType,
attributeGroup, group); the XML document model is not anonymized. In
addition, the translator can map DTD comments onto XML Schema documentation
    nodes in various ways.

      by Bob Phan (http://freshmeat.net/users/rphan/)
      Friday, July 27th 2001 12:36

Category: Desktop Environment :: Window Managers :: Enlightenment

About: e16mnuedit is a fully functional replacement for e16menuedit. It
provides a quicker, more convenient way to edit your Enlightenment menus.
It was created to avoid the cumbersome and inefficient interface of
e16menuedit. e16mnuedit is written in Python.

Changes: Entry rearranging was added. Most of the internal commands are now
more robust and efficient, requiring fewer keystrokes. Some of the gaps in
the built-in documentation were cleaned up. A few command line parameters

Messanger, Communications :: Chat :: ICQ, Communications :: File Sharing,
Communications :: File Sharing :: Napster

About: Echomine Muse API is a Java API with the goal of integrating all
network-collaboration services into one. The API will give an easy-to-use
interface that allows you to log on to multiple services (ie. ICQ, AIM,
MSN, Yahoo Messenger, IRC, Napster, Gnutella, Jabber). There will be a
client GUI Framework API to combine the use of all these service under one
easy-to-access API so that you can write GUI client with much less effort.

Changes: Presence and Roster Management are both fully supported in Jabber.
You can subscribe and unsubscribe to another user's presence, retrieve
roster lists, and add/remove users from roster lists. Another thread

    [016] - fetchmail 5.8.14
      by Mark Hymers (http://freshmeat.net/users/markhymers/)
      Friday, July 27th 2001 12:34

About: Fetchmail is a free, full-featured, robust, well-documented
remote-mail retrieval and forwarding utility intended to be used over
on-demand TCP/IP links (such as SLIP or PPP connections). It supports every
remote-mail protocol now in use on the Internet: POP2, POP3, RPOP, APOP,
KPOP, all flavors of IMAP, and ESMTP ETRN. It can even support IPv6 and
    IPSEC.

Changes: Minor bugfixes to fetchmail. Rob Braun's remote-build change was
corrected, since it broke the build with NLS. Found (and killed) a subtle
SMTP protocol error that was probably lurking behind a lot of the bug
reports related to bounce mail, thanks to Quoc Luu. (Only manifested when

      Friday, July 27th 2001 11:58

About: Formulator is a flexible, extensible framework for the creation and
validation of web forms in Zope. Web forms can be created with a web-based
management interface. When a form is submitted, many common validations,
such as testing for required fields or certain types of input, can be
    automated.

Changes: A workaround was added to make rename work with Zope 2.4.0. Some

      by Mark Tranchant (http://freshmeat.net/users/marktranchant/)
      Friday, July 27th 2001 17:36

About: ftpq allows users to queue ftp upload requests for processing when a
network connection is available. Useful for web authors with a dial-up link
to the net, for example: just queue any changed files and have them
    automatically uploaded on dial-up.

    [020] - Functionally Overloaded Linux Kernel 2.4.7-folk2.1.3
      by imipak (http://freshmeat.net/users/imipak/)
      Friday, July 27th 2001 21:41

About: The FOLK project aims to provide a single patch which incorporates
as many Linux kernel projects as can be crammed in. Its goal is to allow
people who are interested in experimenting with the different projects to
get on with the experimenting, rather than spend time fixing clashing
diffs. It also has the goal of giving some of the more obscure projects a
better chance of being seen and used. It is not intended for "general use".
If a given release is stable, that will be by sheer luck. These are
experimental projects, of unknown quality and completeness, being thrown
together in ways that the developers are unlikely to have even remotely
    considered.

Changes: A fix for the init/boot problem, upgrades to 2.4.7-ac1, HP
Scheduler Patch v10, CI v 0.5.6, the latest CVS snapshots of i2c,
lm_sensors2, JFS and XFS, and the latest MOSIX code, and merging in more of

      by Eddie Kohler (http://freshmeat.net/users/eddietwo/)
      Friday, July 27th 2001 11:06

About: Gifsicle is a powerful command-line program for manipulating GIF
image files. It has good support for transparency and colormap
manipulation, simple image transformations (cropping, flipping), and
creating, deconstructing, and editing GIF animations. It can also optimize
GIF animations for space. Also included is a GIF animation viewer and a
program that checks whether two GIFs look the same.

Changes: A bug in the ungif code was fixed. This bug could corrupt memory
while writing a large ungif, leading to bad output later. This bug only
affects you if you compiled with --enable-ungif. This option is enabled if
you used the default FreeBSD port.

      by jao (http://freshmeat.net/users/jao/)
      Friday, July 27th 2001 11:16

Categories: Software Development :: Compilers, Software Development ::
Debuggers, Software Development :: Interpreters, System :: Emulators

About: MDK (MIX Development Kit) provides tools for developing and
executing, in a MIX virtual machine, MIXAL programs. The MIX is Donald
Knuth's mythical computer, described in the first volume of The Art of
Computer Programming, which is programmed using MIXAL, the MIX assembly
language. MDK includes a MIXAL assembler (mixasm), a MIX virtual machine
(mixvm) with a command line interface, a GTK+ based GUI (gmixvm), and a
    mixvm-Emacs interface (mixvm.el).

Changes: This version adds new debug commands (conditional breakpoints and
backtracing), new configuration options, and the ability to detach the MIX
and MIXAL windows from the main frame in the GUI. The CLI is now able to
save its configuration, and some minor bugs have been fixed.

    [027] - HotSwap 0.8.6
      by ickhabod (http://freshmeat.net/users/ickhabod/)
      Friday, July 27th 2001 11:19

    Categories: Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries,
    Software Development :: Libraries

About: HotSwap provides a robust library for updating the implementation of
an object at runtime, otherwise known as hotswapping. This is achieved
through recompilation, dynamic class reloading, and object state migration
throughout the life of an application. Hotswapping makes Java feel more
like an interpreted language than a compiled language; it is fundamentally
useful for runtime development of an application (application evolution or
    incremental development).

Changes: The HotSwap semantics were changed. New classes were added. A new
configuration schema is now used. Asynchronous mode and jarfile
classloading have been implemented. The documentation was rewritten.

    [031] - JIGS 1.5.1
      by Nicola Pero (http://freshmeat.net/users/kanizsa/)
      Friday, July 27th 2001 12:39

Categories: Desktop Environment :: GNUstep, Software Development ::
Libraries, Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: JIGS (Java Interface for GnuStep) allows Java programmers to use the
GNUstep libraries from Java, but it is more than a set of bindings for
GNUstep from Java: it takes advantage of the fact that Objective-C and Java
are very similar languages to make it possible to use Objective-C classes
from Java using exactly the same API (and vice versa). Moreover, JIGS can
generate automatically wrappers for your own Objective-C GNUstep
    libraries.

Changes: Sending messages with many arguments from ObjC to a Java object
was fixed. Support was added for automagically loading Java classes when
the ObjC runtime needs them, without having to register them manually.

    [033] - Kazlib 1.20
      by Kaz Kylheku (http://freshmeat.net/users/kazkylheku/)
      Friday, July 27th 2001 10:44

About: Kazlib is a package of reusable software modules that provide some
frequently-needed functionality. There is a dictionary module based on
red-black trees, a hashing module capable of managing hash tables that grow
automatically, and a comprehensive module for managing linked lists. There
is also ANSI C portable exception handling. The focus of the library is to
provide performance and extensive error checking. Numerous debugging
self-checks are built in, and in a production build, all of the checks
disappear for better performance. Most of the code is thread-safe, and the
exception-handling module is made thread-safe on POSIX platforms by
enabling the optional POSIX threads support.

Changes: A fix was made in the exception handling module. It was previously
possible for the members of an automatically allocated structure to be
modified after a setjmp and then accessed after a longjmp.

etc.). It provides cataloguing, searching, member/patron management, an
acqusitions system, and circulation (issues, returns, and reserves).
Circulation is handled with a full screen curses interface or a Web-based
interface, and the rest of the system is Web-based.

Changes: This is the last release before MARC support. It mostly contains
bugfixes. Lots of little glitches in Web circulation and members have been
dealt with. Fixed bugs in the manual accounts section were fixed. A little

      Friday, July 27th 2001 21:42

Categories: Scientific/Engineering, Software Development :: Libraries

About: MPI Ruby is a Ruby binding of MPI. The primary goal in making this
binding was to make the power of MPI available to Ruby users in a way that
fits into the language's object oriented model. In order to do this, the
buffer and datatype management necessary in the C, C++, and Fortran
bindings have been removed. What this means is that MPI Ruby allows you
to treat objects as messages. MPI Ruby also aims to be a complete binding
to MPI, in that it offers access to nearly all functionality of MPI.

    WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

About: With PHP-Content-Management-System (phpCMS), you need only one
template for your whole Web site. It allows you to provide dynamic menus
with as many menulevels as you want. It lets you use templates and
subtemplates without the need for a database. It is search engine-friendly
and proxy-friendly, which means that both search engines and proxies won't
distinguish the pages generated with phpCMS from static HTML pages. phpCMS
is cross-platform, so you can use it on Windows and Unix. Caching of parsed
pages and gzip compression speed up your server. The Web site for this
program is in German, but the documentation is in English.

    [053] - seven's IPtables script 1.6
      by seven (http://freshmeat.net/users/seventje/)
      Friday, July 27th 2001 12:08

Category: System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: seven's IPtables script features extensive logging of all connection
attempts, user-definable log-levels, protection against various DoS
attacks, detection of multiple portscan types, user-defined trusted hosts,
    and user-defined "open"-ports.

Changes: The variable names are now in all capital letters, for better
visibility. The iptables -X doublecheck was removed. Two variables,
$CLOSEDUDP and $CLOSEDTCP, were added. The ports specified in those
variables are closed for any host, even for hosts that are listed in
$TRUSTHOSTS. Two variables, $LCLOSEDUDP and $LCLOSEDTCP, were added for
logging of connection attempts to explicitly closed ports. The new $INT
variable allows you to choose which interface you want to protect. All
packets from the interface speficied in the new $TRUSTIF variable will be
trusted. Some minor bugs were fixed.

    [057] - Tachyon Multiprocessor Ray Tracer 0.93.3
      by John Stone (http://freshmeat.net/users/tachyon/)
      Friday, July 27th 2001 11:05

About: Tachyon is a multiprocessor ray tracing system which can be used as
a standalone program, or as a library within other programs. It is written
in C, uses POSIX Threads and/or MPI for using multiple processors, and can
also run on uniprocessor machines. It supports almost any Unix-like system,
Windows, and BeOS, as well as several embedded systems and high end
supercomputers. Tachyon is easy to port to new machines, and is very fast,
using a number of ray tracing acceleration schemes to achieve good
performance on very complex scenes. (It easily handles scenes containing
more than 100,000 objects, and does so without taking a long time to
    render)

Changes: Improvements were made to the MPI code. New command line
parameters which provide control of scene antialiasing were added. New
example scenes were added to illustrate the use of light attenuation
parameters for better control of distance-based light attenuation. Support
for multiprocessor detection on MacOS X was added. The documentation for
the lighting code was updated. New build configurations were added to
support the Intel C compilers for Linux, with optimization flags
appropriate for Pentium 4 CPUs. A new build configuration was added to
support the Sun ClusterTools 4.0 implementation of MPI.

    [058] - Tcl "Compiler" 2.0beta4
      by aotto (http://freshmeat.net/users/aotto/)
      Friday, July 27th 2001 12:23

About: "Compiler" has been developed to compile script applications. To
compile means creating syntactically correct and optimized code as a native
executable. The goal is to give the customer the ability to sell script
based software with the same security and speed as traditional projects,
but with the flexibility and the easyness of a modern script based
technology. "Compiler" focus on Tcl and C, with the possibility to add
    additional languages.

Changes: TEA has been removed. The preexisting "logic" engine for creating
*.o and *.so files is now used. This makes building a lot faster, and it
makes porting easier. Improvements were made to "PkgLib". Some minor bugs
were fixed. The BWidget widget set is now available.
