    [001] - ACPI Event Daemon 0.99.4
      by Tim Hockin (http://freshmeat.net/users/thockin/)
      Tuesday, August 21st 2001 16:05

    About: ACPID is a completely flexible and expandable mechanism for
    delivering ACPI events from the kernel to user-space. It can be configured
    to perform any action at all when events occur, through regex matches and
    arbitrary action rules.

    Changes: Support for UNIX domain sockets has been added. Clients can
    connect on a socket and get events, and there are several command line
    options for socket perms and name. The default file locations have been
    changed to /etc/acpi/events. The man page has been updated. Support for
    command line options has been added to actions. read_line() has been
    changed to be more generic. This requires the /proc/acpi/event kernel patch
    for poll and read() semantics. This release is RC 1, and will be 1.0 if
    there are no bug reports.

    [010] - DAVfs Linux file system driver 0.1.3
      by Sung Kim (http://freshmeat.net/users/hunkim/)
      Tuesday, August 21st 2001 18:09

    About: DAVfs Linux file system driver is a Linux file system driver that
    allows you to mount a WebDAV server as a disk drive. WebDAV is an
    extension to HTTP/1.1 that allows remote collaborative authoring of Web
    resources, defined in RFC 2518. DAVfs allows a remote Web server to be
    edited using standard applications that interact with the file system.
    For example, a remote Web site could be updated in-place, using the same
    development tools that initially created the site.

    Changes: A statfs module has been added to the kernel and davfsd. A
    LOCK/UNLOCK module for use when doing close and put has been added. The XML
    search logic has been improved. A socketopt function has been added. An
    Id/Pass prompt has been added to the mount program.

    [011] - DBI::Frame 1.0
      by Tim Skirvin (http://freshmeat.net/users/tskirvin/)
      Tuesday, August 21st 2001 13:30

    Categories: Database, Internet :: WWW/HTTP

    About: DBI::Frame is an extension of the standard DBI perl module, designed
    around MySQL, used to create and maintain frameworks for databases. It has
    query logging and a standardized interface for SQL statements like 'update'
    and 'insert' that doesn't require understanding SQL. Ideally, the user or
    developer shouldn't have to know SQL to be able to administer a database;
    this does require a special setup which isn't necessarily easy to create.

    Changes: A good Web interface with DBI::Frame::CGI was created. The attempt
    to resolve the licencing issues has been temporarily abandoned.

    [049] - Python GnuPGInterface 0.2.1
      by Frank J. Tobin (http://freshmeat.net/users/ftobin/)
      Tuesday, August 21st 2001 14:11

    Category: Security :: Cryptography

    About: GnuPGInterface is a Python module to interface with GnuPG . It
    concentrates on interacting with GnuPG via filehandles, providing access to
    control GnuPG via versatile and extensible means. It is based on
    GnuPG::Interface.

    Changes: Major changes have been made in the run() method. A much cleaner
    and more sensible method is now used to request which filehandles are
    'created' and which are 'attached'. See the documentation and example code
    for details. Note that the API changes are heavily non-backwards
    compatible. Also, the ability to have run() 'attach' GnuPG filehandles to
    already-opened files really works now; doctests have been implemented to

    internetwork mail routing facility, featuring aliasing and forwarding,
    automatic routing to network gateways, and flexible configuration.

    Changes: These new versions fix a security problem reported by
    SecurityFocus regarding command line processing. This vulnerability is
    present in sendmail Open Source versions between 8.10.0 and 8.11.5 as well
    as all 8.12.0.Beta versions. Therefore, sendmail 8.12.0.Beta users should
    upgrade to 8.12.0.Beta19.

    Categories: Internet :: WWW/HTTP, Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management,
    System :: Benchmark

    About: Siege is a regression test and benchmark utility. It can stress test
    a single URL with a user defined number of simulated users, or it can read
    many URLs into memory and stress them simultaneously. The program reports
    the total number of hits recorded, bytes transferred, response time,
    concurrency, and return status. Siege supports HTTP/1.0 and 1.1 protocols,
    GET and POST directives, cookies, transaction logging, and basic
    authentication. Its features are configurable on a per user basis.

    Changes: This release adds support for HTTP keep-alive directives. It also
    includes minor corrections to fix problems with cookie handling and socket
    IO under certain conditions.

      by Settel (http://freshmeat.net/users/settel/)
      Tuesday, August 21st 2001 14:03

    Category: Internet :: WWW/HTTP

    About: Sirobot is a Perl script that downloads Web pages recursively. The
    main advantage over wget is its ability to get them concurrently, and is
    able to continue aborted downloads and convert absolute links to relative
    ones. It uses curses, can do HTTPS, and has a pattern-matching filter to
    prevent you from downloading the whole Internet.

    Changes: The options --flush and --dump-todolist have been added. They
    allow you to gracefully shut down pending downloads and continue later with
    those not processed.

    About: Star is a very fast, POSIX-compliant tar archiver. It reads and
    writes POSIX compliant tar archives as well as non-POSIX GNU tar archives.
    Star is the first free POSIX.1-200x compliant tar implementation. It saves
    many files together into a single tape or disk archive, and can restore
    individual files from the archive. It includes a FIFO for speed, a pattern
    matcher, multivolume support, the ability to archive sparse files,
    automatic archive format detection, automatic byte order recognition,
    automatic archive compression/decompression, remote archives, and special
    features that allow star to be used for full backups. It includes the only
    known platform independant "rmt" server program that hides Linux
    incompatibilities. The "rmt" server from the star package implements all
    Sun/GNU/Schily/BSD enhancements and allows any "rmt" client from any OS to
    contact any OS as server.

    Changes: Support for POSIX.1-200x extended tar archives (pax) has been
    added.

    [059] - Strip 1.0
      by piloteer (http://freshmeat.net/users/lombardos/)
      Tuesday, August 21st 2001 02:05

    About: Strip is a password and account managment program for the Palm(T)
    Computing Platform. Designed to fit the needs of both IT professionals and
    the average user, it combines ease of use with flexibility and security.
    128 bit encryption ensures that even if your Palm Pilot is lost or stolen
    your important account and password information will remain confidential.
    Strip has a quick and easy to use interface, with many useful features
    including the ability to beam shared accounts to other Strip users.

    Changes: Strip now uses 256 bit AES encryption, and SHA-256 bit message
    digests. New features include the ability to store account metadata, S/Key
    OTP (md4 and md5) support, additional beaming options, improved security
    time-out, user selectable field names, additional storage space, the
    ability to save state on application exit, and improved searching. This
    version also fixes the security vulnerability in the random password
    generator. All Strip users are encouraged to upgrade.

    [060] - the Anomy mail sanitizer 1.42
      by Juggler (http://freshmeat.net/users/juggler/)
      Tuesday, August 21st 2001 14:18

    Categories: Communications :: Email :: Filters, Security

    About: The Anomy mail sanitizer is a filter designed to block email-based
    security risks, such as trojans and viruses. It can scan an arbitrarily
    complex RFC822 or MIME message and remove or rename attachments, truncate
    unusually long MIME header fields and sanitize HTML by disabling
    Javascript, etc. It uses a single-pass pure Perl MIME parser, which can
    make it both more efficient and more precise than other similar programs.
    The sanitizer has built-in support for third-party virus scanners.

    Changes: The FORM tag has been added to the HTML defanger, due to related
    vulnerabilities discussed on BUGTRAQ. The logging system has been
    rewritten, and other minor bugfixes and improvements have been made. Pleae
    note that scoring is disabled in this release, so if you are using it wait
    for 1.43 before upgrading.

    [061] - uDHCP Server/Client 0.9.3
      by Russ Dill (http://freshmeat.net/users/r2600/)
      Tuesday, August 21st 2001 02:18

    Category: System :: Networking

    About: uDHCP Server/Client is an embedded DHCP client and server that can
    be compiled seperately (17k each), or as one combined binary (25k). The
    server stores its lease file periodically, or by a signal (for systems
    with flash memory) in terms of absolute time of lease expiration, or time
    remaining in a lease (for systems with no clocks). The client calls helper
     scripts to do the work of configuring the interfaces for more
    flexibility.

    Changes: Bugfixes in the server and client, and a new client option -H to
    specify the hostname.

    [062] - UnZip 5.42
      by didbaba (http://freshmeat.net/users/didbaba/)
      Tuesday, August 21st 2001 18:04

    About: UnZip will list, test, or extract files from a ZIP archive, commonly
    found on DOS and Windows systems. A companion program, Zip, creates ZIP
    archives. Both programs are compatible with archives created by PKWARE's
    PKZIP or Nico Mak's WinZip, but in many cases the program options or
    default behaviors differ.

    Changes: This release removes unreduce.c (now available only as a separate
    add-on archive) and the Amiga timelib code to eliminate final distribution
    restrictions beyond the BSD-like Info-ZIP license. There is a generic
    replacement for the timelib code. Filename mapping of Unix ``dot'' files to
    DOS 8.3 format has been improved.

    [066] - WebMagick 2.02pre1 (Development)
      by Chris Lindell (http://freshmeat.net/users/clindell/)
      Tuesday, August 21st 2001 17:46

    Category: Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content

    About: WebMagick makes image collections available on the Web. It recurses
    through directory trees, building HTML pages, imagemap files, and
    client-side/server-side maps or HTML tables to allow the user to navigate
    through collections of thumbnail galleries. Using JavaScript, HTML tables,
    and cookies, WebMagick can also allow the viewer to configure how they view
    the gallery. The primary focus of WebMagick is performance. Image
    thumbnails are reduced and composed into a single image to reduce client
    accesses, reducing server load and improving client performance. Everything
    is pre-computed. During operation WebMagick employs innovative caching and
    work-avoidance techniques to make successive executions much faster.

    Changes: A new $opt_pichtmlnav option, which puts navigation buttons on
    per-image HTML pages.
