      by BBIagent.Net (http://freshmeat.net/users/BBIagent/)
      Friday, September 7th 2001 09:28

    Category: System :: Networking :: Firewalls

    About: BBIagent is a single floppy Linux-based router for sharing a
    broadband Internet connection. It also serves as a firewall to prohibit
    intruders from accessing your LAN. You can create your own BBIagent router
    software (a diskette file image) on our server based on your hardware
    configuration (NICs) and connection protocol (e.g. PPPoE, PPPoATM or
    DHCP). It is very easy to install and use.

    Changes: This release supports PPP with 56K modems and PPTP over Ethernet
    connections. Connection tracking is now shown, as well as the lease time of
    an IP address for DHCP. The connect-on-demand bug was fixed.

    Categories: Scientific/Engineering, Scientific/Engineering ::
    Bio-Informatics, Scientific/Engineering :: Chemistry,
    Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization

    About: Ghemical is a molecular modelling software package with a GUI (one
    for the GLUT library, and another for GNOME), and some nice
    3D-visualization tools. It supports methods based on both molecular
    mechanics and quantum mechanics (using MOPAC7, and MPQC for QM). The

      Friday, September 7th 2001 04:57

    Category: Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers

    About: GLiv is an image viewer that uses Imlib2 to load images, and OpenGL
    to render them. Moving and zooming is very fast and smooth if you have an
    OpenGL board.

    Changes: The 'c' key to toggle the cursor is now 'd' to hide it. Faster
    image loading added. New option (-z) makes the pointer the zoom center.
    Garbage display on startup on some systems has been fixed. An option file
    has been added. Window resizing is better handled when the Maximize option
    is set , and the pointer is warped around the screen when moving the image.
    ftw replacement has been improved. Minor bugfixes.

      Friday, September 7th 2001 03:56

    Categories: Security, System :: Networking, System :: Networking ::
    Firewalls

    About: IPTables-tutorial is a tutorial which explains how to install and
    set up iptables and netfilters on Linux. It takes you through a usable
    example file step by step, and helps you understand its basic
    functionality. The script currently contains one basic script where you
    want to give a LAN access to the Internet, and one script which will deal
    with one DMZ, one LAN and one Internet connection. More scripts will be
    available in the future.

    Changes: Tutorial was rewritten to better reflect the packet traversal
    instead of just following the firewall scripts and scripts were updated in
    a few places. rc.firewall.txt and rc.flush-iptables.txt were added in the
    example scripts section.

    [031] - keychain 1.1
      by Daniel Robbins (http://freshmeat.net/users/gentoo/)
      Friday, September 7th 2001 20:08

    Categories: Security, Utilities

    About: keychain helps you to manage RSA and DSA keys in a convenient and
    secure manner. It acts as a frontend to SSH-agent, but allows you to
    easily have one long running SSH-agent process per system, rather than
    the norm of one SSH-agent per login session. This dramatically reduces the
     number of times you need to enter your passphrase - with keychain, you
    only need to enter a passphrase once every time your local machine is
    rebooted. keychain also makes it easy for remote cron jobs to securely
    "hook in" to a long running SSH-agent process, allowing your scripts to
    take advantage of RSA and DSA keys.

    Changes: A fix for a /sbin/pidof call that may not be in path, and a new

      by Steven Knight (http://freshmeat.net/users/stevenknight/)
      Friday, September 7th 2001 03:48

    Category: Software Development :: Testing

    About: Test::Cmd provides a framework for portable, automated testing of
    executable commands and scripts (in any language, not just Perl),
    especially those that interact with the file system. In addition to running
    tests and evaluating conditions, the Test::Cmd module manages and cleans up
    temporary workspace directories, and provides methods for creating files
    and directories from in-line data (here-documents).

    Changes: Test::Cmd::Common module and a wrapper subclass was added to
    handle common exceptions. Explicit examples of using Test::Cmd with
    Test::Harness, Test::Unit, and on its own were added to the documentation.
    Minor fixes to some routines for handling absolute-path end cases were
    added.

    [058] - Timo's Rescue CD Set 0.8
      by Timo Benk (http://freshmeat.net/users/tbenk/)
      Friday, September 7th 2001 10:57

    Categories: System :: Boot, System :: Software Distribution

    About: Timo's rescue CD set provides an easy way to generate bootable
    CDROMs with a ready-to-use rescue system on them. The system is designed to
    be fully customizable and easy to build. The rescue system includes
    reiserfs, parted, partimage, nmap, w3m, bash, sshd, telnetd, ftpd, and
    nfsd. It is based on Debian's "woody" release. The project is evolving more
    and more into a "Debian on CD" project, which means that its use is not
    limited to a rescue CD: it is also possible to install a whole debian
    system on CD. Non-Debian distributions can also be used as the base for the
    rescue system, but this software is not optimized for such cases.

    Changes: Another initrdfs system which is only 80k gzipped was added. A
    script which creates a bootable floppy disk to boot into the rescue system
    was added. A FLOPPYSIZE parameter was added to the config file to control
    whether 2.88MB or 1.44MB floppy disk images will be created. syslinux and
    isolinux were updated to version 1.63. The packages were updated. The
    utils/double script was fixed. The scripts/config/config_interfaces script
    was fixed. The FQDNs in _system/_cd/etc/apt/source.list were replaced with
    IP addresses.

    [059] - tReadingList 0.02 Beta
      by technomancer (http://freshmeat.net/users/technomancer/)
      Friday, September 7th 2001 20:10

    Categories: Internet :: WWW/HTTP, Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content,
    Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

    About: tReadingList is a set of PHP3/4 scripts designed to provide a list
    of books read, with commentary, for websites. The system uses HTML-based
    templates to specify formatting of the reading list pages, providing
    complete control of page appearance to the webmaster. The system's backend
    is provided by a MySQL database, and support is included for generation of
    both a list of recent books read and a list of older books. Reading list
    HTML pages are only regenerated when changes are made to books, so the end
    users suffer no delays caused by database access or parsing of scripting
    code.

    Changes: A new ability to rate books on a numeric user-defined scale and
    display the ratings in the reading list as either a number or a
    user-defined image, an improved url() function, a fix for a bug that
    prevented data import/export from working, and removal of some deprecated
    PHP calls.
