    :: Sound/Audio :: Sound Synthesis

About: Aglaophone is a system of interconnectable modules for the
recording, processing, and playback of real-time audio. It features a
real-time spectrogram display for visualization along with a number of
processing modules. Modules include filters, downsamplers, upsamplers, and
quantizers. An MP3 comparison module allows interactive blind comparison of
MP3 encoded audio with CD audio, demonstrations of spectral imaging,
quantization, and Smith-Barnwell filter bank based wavelet decomposition
are included, and there is a module that can perform an automatic spectral
    analysis of a speaker system.

Changes: This release features minor bugfixes, usability improvements,
    component upgrades, and installation enhancements.

      Tuesday, November 20th 2001 15:41

    Internet :: WWW/HTTP Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content Software
    Development :: Interpreters

About: Apache::ASP provides an Active Server Pages port to the Apache Web
Server with Perl as the host scripting language. Apache::ASP allows a
developer to create dynamic Web applications with session management and
embedded Perl code. There are also many powerful extensions, including XML
taglibs, XSLT rendering, and new events not originally part of the ASP
    API.

Changes: Major fixes for cleaning up empty sessions & handling POST
requests on a fast LAN connection without error, some $Session->API*()
optimizations, support for XML::LibXSLT for XSLT transformations (which
seems to be twice as fast as XML::Sablotron for large XSLT), cross-Perl
work to support PerlTaintCheck On security config, and better memory use
with more modules loaded in parent httpd by default to be shared cross
    fork.

      by DiCE/PsychoMix (http://freshmeat.net/users/sirdice/)
      Tuesday, November 20th 2001 05:23

    Software Development :: Build Tools

About: Buildpkg is a package build system. It gives you the opportunity to
create package system (rpm, dpkg, etc.) independent descriptions (.def)
which can be used to create binary packages on every system. It can be also
used to track installations and create packages of the installed files. If
you want more safety, you can use the 'jail' feature. In this mode a
chroot-ed environment will be created from the (configurable) list of
programs and the installation will be done here.

Changes: Many features were enhanced and the ability to create RPM and DEB

    [009] - BusyBox 0.60.2
      by Erik Andersen (http://freshmeat.net/users/andersee/)
      Tuesday, November 20th 2001 07:09

    System :: Boot :: Init

About: BusyBox combines tiny versions of many common UNIX utilities into a
single small executable. It provides minimalist replacements for most of
the utilities you usually find in GNU fileutils, shellutils, etc. The
utilities in BusyBox generally have fewer options than their full-featured
GNU cousins; however, the options that are included provide the expected
functionality and behave very much like their GNU counterparts. BusyBox
provides a fairly complete POSIX environment for any small or embedded
    system.

Changes: minix shell, ash, and general bugfixes were added.

      Tuesday, November 20th 2001 15:28

Software Development :: Interpreters Software Development :: Libraries

About: The OST ccscript package offers a class extensible threaded embedded
scripting engine for use with the Common C++ GNU package. This engine is
also used in Bayonne (the GNU telephony server), and in TOSI (FreeBSD and
GNU/Linux PBX integration servers). This engine differs from traditional
scripting systems in that it is used to script near real-time state-event
systems through deterministic callback step execution rather than the
linear and non-deterministic fashion of embedded script libraries such as
    tcl, and libguile.

Changes: Support for DSO package modules/plugins for ccScript, new date and
time support based on DSO modules, and support for Common C++ 1.9.0 and

      Tuesday, November 20th 2001 15:27

    Utilities

About: Cluster Copy is a Perl application that broadcasts files over a
network via UDP. Daemons on any number of systems can receive the file.
Using this method, files need not be copied to each system sequentially.

Changes: A fix for a bug in host/group name range translation, defaulting
to group 'all' if no hosts or groups are specified, reduced CPU usage,
automatic exclusion of the sending system's hostname from the recipient
list, nested groups support, verification that groups contain a valid list

    Communications :: Email Database Office/Business

About: Compiere is the Open Source ERP & CRM solution with first tier
functionality for the small-medium enterprise. Designed for the global
marketplace, Compiere is easy to install and implement. In contrast to
other solutions, you will be able to enter invoices after about 4 hours,
without functionality compromises or irreversible implementation time
    decisions.

Changes: This release is easier to install, and is based on Java 1.4,
Oracle 9.0.1 and Tomcat 4.0.1. Mouse wheel support and the additional user
level customizations were added. Payments (Petty Cash, Checks and Funds

Security :: Cryptography Text Editors :: Emacs

About: crypt++.el is a package of Lisp functions that recognize
automatically encrypted and encoded (i.e., compressed) files when they are
first visited or written. The BUFFER corresponding to the file is decoded
and/or decrypted before it is presented to the user. The file itself is
unchanged on the disk. When the buffer is subsequently saved to disk, a
hook function re-encodes the buffer before the actual disk write takes

    [021] - Dynamic Probes 3.2.0
by IBM Linux Technology Center (http://freshmeat.net/users/ibmltc/)
      Tuesday, November 20th 2001 11:13

Software Development :: Debuggers Software Development :: Quality Assurance
    Software Development :: Testing

About: Dynamic Probes (Dprobes) is a generic and pervasive system debugging
facility that will operate under the most extreme software conditions such
as debugging a deep-rooted operating system problem in a live environment.
Dprobes allows the insertion of fully automated breakpoints or probepoints
anywhere in the system and user space. Each probepoint has an associated
set of probe instructions that are interpreted when the probe fires. These
instructions allow memory and CPU registers to be examined and altered
using conditional logic. When the probe command terminates, prior to
returning to the probed code, a syslog record may be optionally generated.

Changes: This release fixes the bug that caused the module list to be
exported without the version suffix when CONFIG_MODVERSIONS is set,
preventing dprobes module from loading. A segfault in do_getvars which
occurred only on S/390 was fixed.

About: eaLib is an Evolutionary Computation Framework written in Java. The
aim of this project is to provide a toolkit that enables developers to
create genetic/evolutionary algorithms with a minimal programming effort.
The toolkit has a modular architecture and is highly extensible. A lot of
common genetic operators are already provided.

Changes: This version adds support for multi-casters. These are able to
split up streams of individuals and pass them to several successor
elements. The complementary mergers are still missing, but will be added in
the next minor release. In the eval package, the CompoundScore class has
been added. This provides initial support for multi-objective algorithms. A

    [053] - ianjtag tools 1.1
      by inAccess Networks (http://freshmeat.net/users/inaccess/)
      Tuesday, November 20th 2001 10:01

    System :: Hardware Utilities

About: ianjtag tools is a set of tools and code for using the JTAG
interface (present in most modern microprocessors) to perform hardware
tests and for programming Flash Memory Devices connected to a processor's
bus. It is especially usefull in embeded systems development projects for
performing initial system tests and for bootstraping prototype systems.
ianjtag tools run on a "host system" (e.g. a desktop computer with Linux)
and access the "target system" (e.g. the embeded system's CPU board)
through a simple 5-line hardware interface. In the present implementation
the host system's parallel port is used as the hardware interface, though
other arangements can very easily be supported. It currently supports the
Intel StrongArm SA-1110 as a target processor and the Intel StrataFlash ICs
as flash memory devices, but it can easily be extented to support any other
target hardware configuration by writing simple modules that can be
incorporated into the ianjtag tools infrastructure.

Changes: Minor additions and bugfixes were made. New commands, better error
reporting, and other features were added to the "ianjflash" tool, and
several annoying bugs were fixed. The JTAG command codes (i.e. the binary
values for commands like EXTEST and IDCODE) were moved from the low-level
jtag module to the processor support modules. The timing of the elementary
jtag cycle was sligtly modified to make it more compatible to the standard.

    Frameworks

About: OpenGUI (formerly FastGL) is a high-level C/C++ graphics & windowing
library built upon a fast, low-level x86 ASM graphics kernel. It provides
2D drawing primitives and an event-driven windowing API for easy
application development, and it supports the BMP image file format. You can
write apps in the old Borland BGI style or in a windowed style like QT.
OpenGUI supports the keyboard and mouse as event sources, the Linux
framebuffer, SVGAlib, and XFree86-DGA2 (HW accelerated) as drawing
    backends, Mesa3D under Linux, and 8, 15, 16, and 32-bpp color modes.

Changes: A new class GLSurface, OpenGL support in window, a new
    CursorLoad(FGMouseCursor *) for user-defined cursors, a fix for get_ppop()
bad return value, MesaGL cleanups (for 3.4/4.0), new mouse cursors for some
situations, and moving the dynamic *.so library back to '/usr/lib'
    (standard ldconfig path).

System :: Networking System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: OpenNMS is an effort to build a fully distributed network management
platform providing both enterprise and element management capabilities,
using Java 2, XML/XSL and other open source projects/tools such as JBossMQ,
    RRDTool, Tomcat and PostgreSQL.

Changes: The build system has had a few small changes, including the
ability to build PDF again. There is now a conversion script; just run
convert-conf.sh to convert an OpenNMS 0.8.1 or earlier set of configuration
files to 0.9.x. A database internationalization problem was fixed. A very
large bug in actiond that was preventing automatic actions from working was
fixed. The web UI was updated to work with Tomcat 4.0.

use interdiff to create an incremental patch between two patches that are
against a common source tree, and combinediff for creating a cumulative
diff from two incremental patches. Filterdiff is for extracting or
excluding patches from a patch set based on modified files matching shell
wildcards. Fixcvsdiff corrects patches generated by 'cvs diff'. Rediff
    corrects hand-edited patches.

[084] - PHP Generator of Object SQL Database. 0.2.7
      by charles vidal (http://freshmeat.net/users/vidalcharles/)
      Tuesday, November 20th 2001 15:00

Internet :: WWW/HTTP Software Development :: Code Generators

About: PHP Generator of Object SQL Database generates objects from the
description of table in an SQL database. Each object map is a table in the
SQL database, and has methods to insert, modify, and delete an entry in
the database. But they also have methods to show forms, and to get data
after an HTTPD post, or a get. They have iterator methods, and call your
function for each entry of your request. Some templates help you to write
HTML forms. This can help when you change databases, as the API is the
same all the time, and you don't have to patch the PHP objects, but just
    regenerate them.

Changes: The script phpdoc (to make the documentation of the generated
class) has been added. The description of the table has been added to
select2.php3, so when you choose a table, you can see the description of
its fields (name, type, key, default value) in the second step.

Communications :: Email :: Mailing List Servers

About: PHPlist is a set of PHP pages that implement a simple mailinglist
system. It uses Mysql for storing the information. Particular aspects of
the system include posting to the mailinglist via a webpage. It is thus a
kind of "announcements" list. It can deal with a very large email address
lists. Users can sign up to multiple lists. If a message is sent to
multiple lists, they will only receive one copy of the email and not as
many as the number of lists they are subscribed to. Geographical
information. If people sign up, they can identify the geographical location
they're in allowing messages to be sent only to a subset of these.

Changes: Users can now be edited. The "textline" and "hidden" attributes
were added. Large lists of users can now be imported. A prefix was added to

      Tuesday, November 20th 2001 11:47

    System :: Logging

About: socklog cooperates with the daemontools package to create a small
and secure replacement for syslogd. socklog supports system logging through
Unix domain sockets (/dev/log) and UDP sockets (0.0.0.0:514) with the help
of daemontools svscan, supervise, and multilog. socklog provides a
different network logging concept, and also does log event notification.
multilog has built in log file rotation based on file size, so there is no

displays trip reports or trip photoessays on the Web. It's designed to use
a master HTML template to abstract content development from the generic
look and feel of the site in order to make writing a trip report as simple
as possible. It's currently in a slow state of development since at the
moment it has a few artificial limits - not the least of which being that
the file naming schema is oriented toward presenting
    transportation-related subjects.

Python, Unix shell, and markup languages.

Changes: The CSS system is now as stable as the native SCS support,
improved CSS file detection and handling having been added. More file
extensions were added to the autodetection, and the user manual was

About: WebGUI is a platform built to allow average business users to build
and maintain complex Web sites. It is modular, pluggable, and platform
independent. It was designed to allow the people who create the content,
to manage it online, rather than content management taking up the time of
busy IT Staff. Whether you are building a consumer site, an intranet, or
an extranet, WebGUI has something to offer.

Changes: The basic infrastructure and interface was added to the new
content management workflow system. The old "pending submissions" system
was removed. A new universal pagination system was added. You can now
specify who can approve User Submissions rather than just all content
managers. The new macro system was added. Much more functionality was added
to the Site Map widget. A universal discussion system was created with an
API that will allow any widget to make use of it. The message board has
been migrated to this new system. Many bug fixes and small feature
    enhancements were made.

    Text Editors :: Emacs

About: XEmacs auf Deutsch tries to provide a good introduction to XEmacs
in the German language. Its features include its own configuration, large
scale LaTeX setup, keybindings, and lisp code snippets.

Changes: The docs have been restructured so that submission of chapters
written by others is now easy. The configuration setup was changed to
provide a more flexible and clearer setup.

    [112] - XNotesPlus 3.4.3 (Stable)
      by Michael J. Hammel (http://freshmeat.net/users/mjhammel/)

    Communications :: Email :: Address Book Office/Business Office/Business ::
    Scheduling

About: XNotesPlus is a Personal Information Manager (PIM) based around a
sticky notes (aka Memos) concept with over a dozen features: email, search
text, printing, audio/visual alarms, etc. It also includes a full featured
interface to the 3Com Palm Pilot, including full Address Book, Todo List,
and Calendaring functions, with XNotes exported as Pilot Memos, and Pilot
Memos imported as XNotes. The Address Manager in XNotesPlus allows you to
use addresses from the Pilot to print envelopes, and send email notes to
    friends.

Changes: This is a bugfix release. Two major problems were found in 3.4.2.
The first was a crash that occurred when exiting the Todo window while in a
category with no entries. This has been fixed. The second problem was a
persistant problem with notes losing their positions when they were spread
out across multiple desktops. This long-standing bug appears to be fixed. A
note was also added to the FAQ regarding the use of USB devices with
    XNotesPlus.

About: ZSI (the Zolera SOAP Infrastructure) is a pure Python module that
provides an implementation of SOAP messaging, as described in the SOAP 1.1
specification. It can also be used to build applications using SOAP
Messages with Attachments. ZSI is intended to make it easier to write web
services in Python. In particular, ZSI parses and generates SOAP messages,
and converts between native python datatypes and SOAP syntax. Simple
dispatch and invocation methods are supported.

Changes: Some new features that the SOAP interop testing showed were needed
    were added.
