[001] - Access Point SNMP Config 0.7.6 (Development)
      by roma (http://freshmeat.net/users/festchook/)
      Wednesday, March 27th 2002 14:07

System :: Hardware System :: Networking System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: Access Point SNMP Conf is an ncurses-based utility to configure
Access Points based on Atmel chipset via the SNMP protocol (the case for
    most Intersil clone vendors).

Changes: There are fixes to the error reports in the ap-mrtg utility. In
the ap-cnf utility, power level settings changed, and now optimal values
may be experimentally chosen by users. There are also SNMP connection
    timeout fixes.

    [002] - AFT 5.079
      by Alan E (http://freshmeat.net/users/alane/)
      Wednesday, March 27th 2002 03:21

Internet :: WWW/HTTP Text Processing Text Processing :: Markup

About: AFT (Almost Free Text) is a document preparation system. It is
mostly free form, meaning that there is little intrusive markup; AFT source
documents look a lot like plain old ASCII text. It has a few rules for
structuring your document, more to do with formatting your text than
embedding lots of commands, and it produces all types of output (HTML,
XHTML, LaTeX, roll-your-own XML, etc.). All that needs to be done is to
edit a rule file. You can even customize your own rule files for
    specialized output.

Changes: Now uses autoconf/automake. Fixed bug in execing postrtf.pl.
Trailing spaces in section header text are now trimmed. Fixed bug in block
verbatim mode (^<<), where spaces were being turned into tabs.

    [003] - Alzabo 0.64
      by Dave Rolsky (http://freshmeat.net/users/urthman/)
      Wednesday, March 27th 2002 18:09

    Database Software Development

About: Alzabo is a two-fold program. Its first function is as a data
modelling tool. Through either a schema creation interface or a custom Perl
program, it allows a programmer to create a set of schema, table, column,
etc. objects that represent a data model. Alzabo is also capable of reverse
engineering an existing data model. Its second function is as a
RDBMS-to-object mapping system. Once you have created a schema, you can use
Alzabo classes to access its data. These classes offer a high-level
interface to common operations such as SQL SELECT, INSERT, DELETE, and
    UPDATE commands.

Changes: There are major improvements in flexibilty to construct joins, and
    also some bugfixes.

      Wednesday, March 27th 2002 18:27

    System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: Astaro Security Linux is a firewall solution. It does stateful
packet inspection filtering, content filtering, user authentication, virus
scanning, VPN with IPSec and PPTP, and much more. With its Web-based
management tool, WebAdmin, and the ability to pull updates via the
Internet, it is pretty easy to manage. It is based on a special hardened
Linux 2.4 distribution where most daemons are running in change-roots and
    are protected by kernel capabilities.

Changes: This release updates the GnuPG keys for Up2Date, the PPTP daemon
(the 'fast computer on slow internet connection' issue has been fixed),
OpenSSH, and zlib (1.1.4). The halt/reboot scripts have been cleaned up.
This release does smarter net accounting daemon handling in Selfmonitor,
uses mimeencode for the virus scan engine, and does email notification
handling in the virus scan queue.

      Wednesday, March 27th 2002 06:39

    Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Analysis Scientific/Engineering

About: Bewdy is a GUI to visualize Maaate's capabilities. It enables a user
to analyse a sound file for features, to classify and segment the sound
file based on these features. Bewdy visualises the results of Maaate's
modules and enables navigation through the sound file based on these. The
user may also interactively change the parameter settings for each module
and thus play around with different types of results (curves, spectrums,
    and values).

Changes: This release fixes a bug when loading a non-existent Maaate logo,

the filesystem with just a few keystrokes. It is intended for heavy shell
    users.

Changes: A man page was added to the distribution. There is a feature to
add directories to the list and ask the user for a description string (on
keys 'A' and 'C'), and the '?'-key can be used to call for help. The

About: Clementine is a window manager for X, based on aewm, written in C++.
This project aims to create a small, fast window manager with the minimum
amount of extra added features in order to make it usable. Clementine will
be as small as possible within these constraints of usability, but no
    smaller.

Changes: This release expands styles a bit to cover buttons separately.
There is no longer a 'menu' entry in styles, and 'active' is now used

      Wednesday, March 27th 2002 02:14

    System :: Systems Administration

About: CPU (Change Password Utility) is an LDAP user management tool based
on FreeBSD's pw(8). It allows you to add, modify, and delete users and
groups from an LDAP directory as defined by RFC 2307. You may use SSHA,
SMD5, MD5, SHA, or Crypt for password hashing. CPU also allows you to take
existing users from a Unix-style passwd file and import those users and
    users' passwords into the directory.

Changes: The notable new features for this release are the cat function,
which displays LDAP users in an /etc/passwd style format, and the -j switch
for adding and deleting users from existing groups (memberUid). CPU now
also does a check to make sure a group is empty before deleting it. It also

      Wednesday, March 27th 2002 21:58

System :: Logging System :: Monitoring

About: DU New log notifier and parser (DULog) periodically tails system
logs on *nix systems, parses the output in order to present it in an easily
readable format (parsing modules currently exist only for Linux), and mails
a final report to the administrator. It can run daily or hourly. DULog is
written specifically for large clusters where many systems log to a single
loghost using syslog or syslog-ng. Although DULog can be used on standalone

    Office/Business

About: EasyMailings reads in an ASCII text file of addresses and outputs
mailing labels in Adobe's Portable Document Format. The labels are sorted
according to U.S. Postal Service regulations, that is, by tray and then
package. It prints a header at the start of each tray and package, which
greatly simplifies the mailing party. It can print bar-coded labels (both
address and tray). It has no GUI and requires somewhat laborious printer
    calibration.

      by Hendrik Sattler (http://freshmeat.net/users/hsattler/)
      Wednesday, March 27th 2002 18:15

    Communications

About: SCMxx is a console program that allows you to exchange certain types
of data with mobile phones made by Siemens. Some of the data types that can
be exchanged are logos, ring tones, vCalendars, vCards, phonebook entries,
and SMS messages. It works with the following phones: S25, C35i, M35i,
S35i, ME45, S45, SL45, and probably some others, too. It basically uses the
AT command set published by Siemens (with some other additional
    resources).

Changes: There are new parameters and options. Additionally, this release
uses raw mode on the serial line, and thus some code cleanups were done.
The ability to specify "all" on file receiving and deleting was added,
although they can only be stored in one file, and thus --pipe is now also
available for getting bitmap, MIDI, VCF, and VCS files. There is now a
check to determine whether the SMS can be decoded properly (only SMS-SUBMIT
and SMS-DELIVER). The C45 was added to the list of supported phones.

      Wednesday, March 27th 2002 18:19

System :: Benchmark System :: Monitoring System :: Networking ::
    Monitoring

About: SmokePing is a network latency monitor which works in a way that is
similar to MRTG. It measures network latency to a configurable set of
destinations on the network, and displays its findings in easy-to-read Web
pages. SmokePing has special support for monitoring hosts with dynamic IP
addresses. SmokePing uses RRDtool as its logging and graphing back-end,
making the system very efficient. The presentation of the data on the Web
is done through a CGI which creates graphs on demand.

Changes: This release can monitor targets which sit on branches, work with

    [071] - Smtpblock 2.4
      by David Bellizzi (http://freshmeat.net/users/dbelliz/)
      Wednesday, March 27th 2002 01:07

Communications :: Email :: Mail Transport Agents

About: Smtpblock is a tool that parses your UNIX mail log. When new mail
messages are detected it performs a SMTP relay test to determine if the
remote host allows the relaying of third party mail. If the remote host
relays third party mail, Smtpblock creates a firewall rule to block access
to the local host's SMTP port. Smtpblock keeps track of each host's test
status and time when it will need to be rechecked, reducing the need to
constantly check every host sending mail to the local system. Smtpblock can
be run as a daemon continously checking the UNIX mail log or as a stand
alone program parsing the entire log file. Hosts can be manually checked,
blocked or unblocked via command line options.

Changes: The relay message now contains the hostname, domain and IP of the
host under test. Implemented, or tried to, all 12 relay checks used by ORBZ
minus the Domino crippling test. These tests are now configurable via the
configuration file. Added command line options for specifying an alternate
log file and overriding the default blocked time limit. The test matrix has
been modified to test all hosts against RBLs. Changed the SIGCHLD signal
    handler to use POSIX ":sys_wait_h".

About: Spackle is designed to be a flexible client/server architecture for
the gathering and displaying of statistics, primarily suited to monitoring
servers. It's written in PHP and bash shell script, uses RRDtool for
stats logging and graphing, and PostgreSQL for the server-side database.

Changes: This release fixes hardcoded host names in the client script, uses
a local copy of dos2unix, and no longer uses md5sum. client.php now ignores
empty values, does not ignore zero values, and translates dashes to
underscores in target names. The location of the rrdtool binary has been

      Wednesday, March 27th 2002 03:24

    System :: Monitoring

About: Flasher monitors changes to one or more files, and indicates the
number of writes to these files by briefly flashing a console LED once for
each write. The flashing sequence is repeated, after a brief pause, until
the files have been read. As the files are read, the number of LED flashes
is reduced. When all monitored files have been read, the console LED is
disabled. The most obvious use is to monitor specific system log or mail
files. Multiple LEDs can be used.

Instead of attempt ing to hide asynchronous behavior behind a synchronous

    asynchronous behavior.

Changes: A partial conversion to use namespaces, chucking the
UNIXpollManager and UNIXpollManagerImp in favor of UnixEventRegistry and
UnixEventPoll (which unify signal handling and file descriptor event
handling), removal of UNIXSignalHandler and UnixTimer because UnixEventPoll

on one of several protruding pipes (the game concept is similar to that of
Tetris). Torus is written in C++ using Qt and the STL.

Changes: Some improved signal exchange between objects (objects are
sending an integer which represents torus color instead of whole TTorus
object), and removal of obsolete functions and XPM files.

About: Twiggi Web Based Groupware is a Web based groupware application,
written in PHP4, using MySQL as its database engine. It was originally
based on the excellent TWIG project. With many on-going enhancements, it
is similar to Microsoft Outlook, and features the following modules:
twiggi today, Mail, Contacts, Notes, ToDo, Bookmarks, and extensive
online help (available in English and German).

Changes: When a user has been removed from a group, all items belonging to
this group were also removed from this group and assigned the status
'unfiled'. The fix correct this, so that only items owned by the user who
has been removed from the group will be switched to 'unfiled'. An update is
recommended. Additionally, in the "Administration->Edit Access Control"
menu, new settings could not be saved. This bug, which was related to
backslash escaped quotes, has also been fixed.

      Wednesday, March 27th 2002 14:23

    System :: Emulators

About: Xenomai is a GNU/Linux-based framework which is designed to be a
foundation for a set of traditional RTOS API emulators running on top of a
host software architecture (such as RTAI when hard realtime support is
required). It is meant to help application developers to move from a legacy
RTOS to a GNU/Linux-based execution environment, without having to rewrite
their applications entirely. It includes a pSOS+ emulator running on top of
the RTAI hard realtime Linux kernel extension.

Changes: This release has a reworked nanokernel now exhibiting a threaded
interrupt model, a full-fledged VxWorks emulator, the finalized VRTXsa
emulator, the initial implementation of an uITRON-compliant API, and a
number of bugfixes in all parts of the framework. A new disjunctive dual
licensing scheme (GPL/Clarified Artistic License) now applies to core parts
of the Xenomai framework such as the nanokernel and the real-time
    interfaces.

    [089] - xmlBlaster 0.79e
      by Marcel (http://freshmeat.net/users/marcelruff/)
      Wednesday, March 27th 2002 14:29

Other/Nonlisted Topic Security Software Development :: Libraries

About: XmlBlaster is XML based MOM (Message oriented Middleware) with a lot
of features. It is a publish/subscribe and point-to-point MOM server which
exchanges XML-encoded messages. Communication with the server is based on
CORBA (using JacORB), RMI or XML-RPC with a persistent HTTP plugin.
Subscribers can use XPath expressions to filter the messages they wish to
receive. C/C++, Java, and Perl client demos are included in the xmlBlaster
test suite, and Tcl and Python demo clients are scheduled. XmlBlaster also
provides a browser callback framework, allowing browsers (Netscape,
Mozilla, MSIE) to receive instant callbacks over a persistent http
connection. A security plugin framework allows authentication/authorization
in many ways. Currently there are LDAP- and passwd-based plugins
    available.

Changes: This release has persistence support with native XML database
XIndice. Performance has been boosted to over 1700 messages per second.
There are many new services, including priority messages, burst mode,
callback recovery, dead letter support, session-based logins, sophisticated
queues, and more. There are new protocol plugins with raw socket
connections (allowing firewall tunneling) and a demo email callback. One
way invocations have been added for even better performance. There is a
security fix for callback invocations. There are more Perl client helper
classes, C - XmlRpc access demo code, and many bugfixes.

    [090] - Xplns 3.3.0
      by Osamu Ajiki (http://freshmeat.net/users/osamuajiki/)
      Wednesday, March 27th 2002 14:14

    Scientific/Engineering :: Astronomy

About: Xplns is a free astronomy simulation software written specifically
for Unix. It reproduces real starry sky on your display of X Window System.
It calculates the position of many celestial objects accurately. You can
enjoy the past and future sky on the desk top as if you have traveled all
    around the world.

Changes: There is some 'all-sky mode' support. You can drag the star chart
to move the view port. The zoom up/down button now grabs mouse up/down. An
external image viewer is no longer needed to look at images. A pseudo color
mode is supported. The information box shows the rise/set time of the
object. Wheel mice are supported. There is a new "picture-mark" menu item.

Security Security :: Cryptography System :: Networking

About: Zebedee is a simple program to establish an encrypted, compressed
tunnel for TCP/IP or UDP data transfer between two systems. This allows
traffic such as telnet, FTP, and X to be protected from snooping as well as
potentially gaining performance over low-bandwidth networks from
    compression.

Changes: A number of new features have been added since the last stable
release. These include CIDR address specifications for targets, peer IP
address checking, connection via a Web proxy supporting the "CONNECT"
method, the ability to select the address on which the client or server
listens, timeout for inactive TCP mode tunnels, and support for using both
