About: Codestriker is a Perl CGI script that is used for performing code
reviews in a collaborative fashion, as opposed to using unstructured
emails. Authors create code review topics, the nominated reviewers being
automatically notified by email. Reviewers then submit comments against the
code on a per-line basis, and can view comments submitted by the other
reviewers as they are created. Emails are sent to the appropriate parties,
as an alert mechanism, when comments are created. The author is free to
submit comments against the review comments. Once all reviewers have
finished the author has all review comments available in a structured
fashion, instead of a pile of unstructured emails.

Changes: This version includes support for running under mod_perl, the
colored diff mode can now be viewed in either monospaced or variable-width
font (chosen dynamically), and there is now support for sending the HTML

      Friday, May 17th 2002 08:41

    Other/Nonlisted Topic

About: FlyWay is a navigational route planner for pilots. It allows the
user to find and select waypoints (airports, navigational aids, and
fixes), then calculates distances, courses, wind corrections, and times.
Information about the waypoints is provided (including frequencies,
elevation, fuel availability, and runway descriptions). The route data is
also used to fill in an editable FAA Flight Plan form. FlyWay has an X11
GUI based on the PyQt library.

Changes: A new waypoint database has been incorporated. Some small airports
that were missing are now included. There are also more airport frequencies
and more fixes (including some VFR fixes). In addition, FlyWay has been

    Operating System Kernels :: Linux

About: Next Generation POSIX Threading (NGPT) is a project which introduces
an M:N threading model to the Linux system. This model will provide better
performance for multi-threaded applications that utilize the POSIX pthreads
library functionality. This will be particularly true on SMP machines. The
goal of this project is to make threading on Linux more robust, more
POSIX-compliant, and more in line with the services provided by commerical
    Unix operating systems.

Changes: Support for POSIX process shared synchronization objects (this is
the first threading package on Linux to do so).

Changes: A work-around exception handling segfaults with older versions of
gcc, fixes for compile warnings on some arches, a fix for a possible
"Numerical result out of range" connection error that occured on some

    [063] - PHPlist 1.5.0
      by Michiel (http://freshmeat.net/users/michiel/)
      Friday, May 17th 2002 06:58

Communications :: Email :: Mailing List Servers Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: PHPlist is a set of PHP pages that implement a simple mailinglist
system. It uses Mysql for storing the information. Particular aspects of
the system include posting to the mailinglist via a webpage. It is thus a
kind of "announcements" list. It can deal with a very large email address
lists. Users can sign up to multiple lists. If a message is sent to
multiple lists, they will only receive one copy of the email and not as
many as the number of lists they are subscribed to. Geographical
information. If people sign up, they can identify the geographical location
they're in allowing messages to be sent only to a subset of these.

Changes: The main functionality this version adds to the system is the
ability to create individual administrators who can each control a set of
lists and users. One or more "superadmins" are able to control the entire
system. Related to this, there is now an option to "prepare" a message,
which means that you can create a complete choice of template, content,
from, subject, and user selection, without choosing a list to send it to.
Then secondly you can "send a prepared message" which will list all
prepared messages and send them to the lists of choice.

information structures which can be used to represent ontologies, business
data and processes, individual knowledge and opinions, and more. The goal
of the TM4J project is to develop high-quality, Open Source software for
the creation, manipulation, and exchange of topic maps.

Changes: This release adds an update to XTMBuilder to preserve id attribute
values of XTM files when "round-tripping" them through TM4J.

    System :: Monitoring Utilities

About: WatchMan is a process killer daemon. It kills process which may
become a problem due to several reasons, like taking too much time in user
or kernel mode, using too much CPU or memory, etc. It is configurable via a
    .conf file.

Changes: A fix for a memory leak, a new build system, new configuration
file storage dir /usr/local/share/watchman.conf, new watchman binary file
storage dir /usr/local/bin/watchman.conf, memory usage optimization, a
package reconfiguration to make it more 'GNU Coding Standards' compliant,
    and fixes for several comments.

About: WMND (Window Maker Network Devices) is a dockapp for monitoring
multiple network interfaces simultaneously. Based on WMiFS 1.3b, WMND has
been almost totally re-written and is more optimized, flexible, and
consumes less CPU time than wmmon.

Changes: A new sysctl FreeBSD driver, support for driver autodetection
using the usual ./configure stuff, and general code cleanups.

    [085] - xpath2rss 0.7
      by Mark Nottingham (http://freshmeat.net/users/mnot/)
      Friday, May 17th 2002 16:07

    Internet :: WWW/HTTP Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content Text
    Processing :: Markup

About: xpath2rss is an XPath to RSS scraper. XPath makes a better HTML
scraper than regex (the typical solution) because it understands the
structure of the document, rather than just treating it as a big string. As
a result, xpath2rss is a more reliable scraper, and much easier to use,
once you get the hang of XPath.

Changes: This release has support for HTML and XHTML (see README for
caveats), has arbitrary channel metadata and item attributes, checks for a
link tag pointing to available feed(s) when scraping, checks robots.txt to
be polite, has a new config file format (hopefully the last time it will
change), includes an XSLT stylesheet to convert config files, has changed
to RSS.py for RSS generation, and has general code cleanup.

    [086] - ZAP! 1.2
      by Adam Dickmeiss (http://freshmeat.net/users/dickmeiss/)
      Friday, May 17th 2002 14:03

    Database Database :: Database Engines/Servers Internet :: WWW/HTTP ::
    Dynamic Content

About: ZAP! is a module which makes it fairly straightforward to build
WWW-based user interfaces for groups of Z39.50-based information resources.
It hides much of the complexity of the underlying protocol and requires
mostly an understanding of HTML and some understanding of the Z39.50
    database model.

Changes: A fix for an endless loop for some big code sections, a fix for
servertotal rule when resultCount == 0, a fix for the setting of variables
in servertotal rule, and fixes for problems with the callZap funtion in
    format rules (XML, MARC).
