    Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers

    About: Nanoweb is a modular HTTP server written in PHP 4. It has decent
    performance, an HTTP/1.1 implementation, CGI support, a nice configuration
    system, name-based virtual hosts, server side includes, authentication,
    gzip content encoding support, Apache combined format and MySQL logging,
    and many advanced features.

    Changes: Support for HTTP resume, wildcard vhosts, and mod_bsp for serving
    BrainF*ck server pages were added. Minor bugfixes and small cleanups,
    speedups, and enhancements were made.

    System :: Networking :: Firewalls

    About: Astaro Security Linux is a firewall solution. It does stateful
    packet inspection filtering, content filtering, user authentication, virus
    scanning, VPN with IPSec (PKI for X.509 certificates) and PPTP, and much
    more. With its Web-based management tool, WebAdmin, and the ability to
    pull updates via the Internet, it is pretty easy to manage. It is based on
    a special hardened Linux 2.4 distribution where most daemons are running
    in change-roots and are protected by kernel capabilities.

    Changes: This Up2Date fixes the virusscan engine restart bug.

    Database :: Front-Ends

    About: Autotabla is a CGI interface to a collection of SQL tables. Only a
    simple XML description of the database schema (table names, fields, etc.)
    must be provided, and all table maintenance can then be done from a Web
    page.

    Changes: A script for automatic trigger generation for serial number
    fields in Oracle databases was added. Several bugs which made the program
    not work with Perl versions lower than 5.6 (5.003) were fixed.

    [005] - BINS photo album 1.1.13
      by Jérôme SAUTRET (http://freshmeat.net/users/zubro/)
      Wednesday, August 7th 2002 23:08

    Internet :: WWW/HTTP
    Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
    Multimedia :: Graphics :: Graphics Conversion

    About: BINS is a valid HTML 4 photo album generator with support for
    internationalization, EXIF, and customizable charset encoding, including
    UTF-8 (Unicode). Albums can contains other sub-albums. The appearance of
    the album can be fully personalized by using template and configuration
    parameters. The number and size of scaled pictures can be chosen in pixels
    or percentage of the original image. Several description fields (date,
    location, etc.) can be associated with the pictures, and you can add
    additional description fields. A command line utility or a GTK+ GUI can be
    used to set or edit description fields. BINS can use the EXIF data
    structure found in some pictures to automatically fill some fields (most
    notably, date and time) and to produce a page providing all information
    available on the picture, as well as the DigiCam settings when the photo
    was taken. All image meta-data are stored in XML files.

    Changes: It is now possible to use the sizes parameter in picture
    description files to have different scaled images number and scaled sizes
    for pictures in the same album. Some other parameters can now also be used
    on a per image basis. A bug introduced in 1.1.10 version that caused
    scaleIfSameSize parameter to be always 1 has been corrected. jpegtran can
    now be used even if it cannot handle the same file in input and output. An
    encoding problem on creation date has also been corrected.

    [007] - BlackHole Spam/Virus Filter 0.9.128 (Stable)
      by Chris Kennedy (http://freshmeat.net/users/getdown/)
      Wednesday, August 7th 2002 12:38

    Communications :: Email
    Communications :: Email :: Filters
    Security

    About: Blackhole Spam/Virus Filter provides spam and virus filtering using
    dot-files in all the major MTA/SMTP servers for UNIX and similar systems.
    It is easy for an individual user to set it up with shell account access
    and configure. It is different from other, similar programs, in that it
    executes a minimal number of programs to do the filtering, is able to use
    a MySQL database for the users' configuration files, can be set up as the
    queue in Qmail, and have virtual users' configuration files be found using
    the username/domain for the recipient. Multiple checks are available, and
    there open options on how to treat flagged email. There is logging to
    multiple entities, auto-expiration of flagged email, and scoring available
    so that multiple checks require matches that add up before blocking.

    Changes: This release has optional arguments for clamscan to decompress
    attachments, and it is easy to change the command line for McAfee and
    ClamScan now. An option has been added to execute a program when a
    threshold is met, either with the max score or just for any spam (can be
    set up through each individual spam action), to run with the args
    'iprelay' and 'msg_file'. You can create a program to parse that info and
    do what you want. This would be good for reporting spam to RBL lists when
    matching the pattern checks, etc., while not being on the RBL lists.

    Adaptive Technologies
    Desktop Environment :: Theme :: People
    Scientific/Engineering :: Artificial Intelligence

    About: Care 2002 is a multilingual, user configurable, modular, scalable
    piece of software for hospitals and health care organizations. It is
    designed to integrate the different information systems existing in these
    organizations into one single efficient system. It solves the problems
    inherent in a network of multiple programs that are incompatible with each
    other. It can integrate almost any type of services, systems, departments,
    clinics, processes, data, communication, etc. that exist in a hospital.
    Its design can even handle non-medical services or functions like
    security, maintenance, etc. All of its functions can be accessed with a
    Web browser, and all program modules are processed on the server side.

    Changes: This release has major security fixes in response to a
    vulnerability report. There are bugfixes, motr security fixes, and more.
    Those who have an already running installation of an earlier version can

    [010] - cgipaf 1.1.0RC2 (Development)
      by staf (http://freshmeat.net/users/stafwag/)
      Wednesday, August 7th 2002 12:49

    Communications :: Email

    About: cgipaf is a combination of three CGI programs. passwd.cgi, which
    allow users to update their password, viewmailcfg.cgi, which allows users
    to view their current mail configuration, and mailcfg.cgi, which updates
    the mail configuration. All programs use PAM for user authentication. It
    is possible to run a script to update SAMBA passwords or NIS configuration
    when a password is changed. mailcfg.cgi creates a .procmailrc in the
    user's home directory. A user with too many invalid logins can be locked.
    The minimum and maximum UID can be set in the configuration file, so you
    can specify a range of UIDs that are allowed to use cgipaf.

    Changes: This release has the ability to list words in the configuration
    file that are not allowed to be part of new passwords. A run_after_mailcfg

    Database :: Front-Ends
    Office/Business

    About: DataVision is a database reporting tool similar to Crystal Reports,
    written in Java. Multiple database backends (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle,
    ODBC) and frontends (LaTeX, XML, comma- and tab-separated data files,
    DocBook, and HTML) are supported. DataVision uses XML files to describe
    reports.

    Changes: There are many new formula operators: floor, ceil, round, sqrt,
    pow, **, max, min, abs, sin, cos, and tan. Images can now be manipulated
    in the GUI. Hidden images appear disabled in the GUI. In the format
    window, system font names are presented in a drop down menu. It will now
    print all pages of the report, not just the page being displayed in the
    Swing report output window. This means it's back to ugly output, though.
    Fields' font names are now loaded into the format window. Page layouts
    (paper sizes and orientation) should work when printing.

    Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
    Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
    Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

    About: Echo is a framework for developing object-oriented, event-driven
    Web applications in Java. Echo removes the developer from having to think
    in terms of "page-based" applications and enables him/her to develop
    applications using the conventional object-oriented and event-driven
    paradigm for user interface development. Knowledge of HTML, HTTP, and
    JavaScript is not required. Tutorials, white papers, and full API
    documentation are available.

    Changes: This release focuses on bugfixes and performance improvements.
    The File Transfer Library (a separate download) has been updated, and now
    offers both upload and download capabilities. A new, experimental

    [041] - OfflineIMAP 3.2.2

      Wednesday, August 7th 2002 23:31

    Communications :: Email
    Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
    Communications :: Email :: Post-Office :: IMAP

    About: OfflineIMAP is a tool to simplify email reading. It allows you to
    read the same mailbox from multiple computers and ensures that your
    changes will be automatically reflected on all computers. You can use
    various mail clients to read a single box or read mail while offline with
    full synchronization when you reconnect. You can read IMAP mail with
    readers that lack IMAP support (same goes for SSL). OfflineIMAP's
    multithreaded synchronization algorithm performs between 10 and 60 times
    faster than many mail readers' internal IMAP support, and it can be used
    even with mail readers that support IMAP already. There are five available
    user interface modules, including scripted execution, an interactive
    terminal interface, and GUI interfaces.

    Changes: This version of OfflineIMAP now supports hierarchically-nested
    Maildir folders (i.e., with a separator of "/"). There is also better
    handling of read-only folders, which posed a problem for some people
    previously. Scrolling behavior is better now, with a fix for a bug where
    sometimes the log window would stop scrolling. There are also some extra

    hardware into a versatile thin client. They will be capable of accessing
    any XDM server presenting the graphical login screen or any Microsoft
    Terminal Server through RDP protocol. The actual configuration of clients
    is made with an easy to use graphical configuration tool, allowing the
    specification of clients parameters or the server to access. The thin
    client can access the local devices such as sound, printer, disks, etc.

    Changes: Support for many network devices was added. The horizontal and
    vertical frequency of monitors can now be selected. Dynamic content is now
    presented in the combo boxes for keyboard layout, network card, and sound
    card, so you can add kernel modules and have them available in the list.
    Some requested features were added, and some improvements made. Mouse
    wheel support was added, rdesktop patches were applied, performance was
    improved, and stricter error management was added to the scripts.

    Software Development :: Libraries :: Python Modules

    About: The Python Realtime Scheduling Extension brings soft realtime
    programming calls to Python. It can set the scheduling discipline and
    priority of processes and can sched_yield() itself. It carries
    implementations of msleep() and usleep() for accurate sub second sleeping.
    It is especially useful when combined with the inbuilt Python module
    "sched" to build an accurate sub-second resolution scheduling system. It's
    ideal for rapid embedded systems development.

    Games/Entertainment :: First Person Shooters
    Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content

    About: QStat is a command-line program that displays the status of
    Internet game servers, including player info, game name, and ping time. It
    supports most first-person shooter type games such as Quake, Unreal,
    Tribes, Half-Life, and their various spin-offs. QStat can output in human
    readable form to a terminal, in machine parsable raw format, XML, or
    custom template based formats. The latter is handy for generating server
    status Web pages.

    Changes: The config file now allows the addition of game types without
    recompiling. Full SOF2 support, a server rules template, and lots of minor
    improvements and bugfixes have been added.

    [053] - Quick Website News 0.11

      Wednesday, August 7th 2002 12:41

    Internet :: WWW/HTTP
    Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
    Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries

    About: QWN is a system for authoring Web site news via a user friendly Web
    interface. It has been designed to have as low server requirements as
    possible: output is created as static HTML, such that users can view news
    without using any more resources than any other page, and the database
    used is a simple text file, so no database servers are required. It also
    supports multiple users and projects, so you can create different projects
    for different news areas and then create users to be assigned roles of
    administrators, editors, or authors for each project. This is ideal for a
    small, one-man Web site as well as for use in larger sites for creating
    multiple user 'communities'.

    Changes: Single user support has been added. This is a mode which, when
    set in the new site options files, removes all the multiple user and
    authentication support. Therefore, the user is left with a much simpler
    system, ideal for sites where there is only one author. Additionally, work
    has been done on ensuring consistent response in the event of errors, and
    many bugs have been fixed.

      Wednesday, August 7th 2002 12:09

    Communications
    Communications :: BBS
    Communications :: Conferencing

    About: The RealizationEngine is a Web-based group communication tool which
    presents information in a highly intuitive, time-delineated style. It
    allows authorized individuals to have access to information, which can be
    compartmentalized, restricted, or published openly, all from the same
    system. Ideas are coherently threaded, and every message is searchable in
    a single location, and in the context of the messages related to it. Being
    a "closed system", the RealizationEngine eliminates spam, and still makes
    the information available to users or visitors as appropriate even when
    they are away from their "home" computer. The RealizationEngine can be
    accessed from any Web browser or Web-enabled device, and can be integrated
    with SSL when secure connections are required. The server requires a Web
    server, MySQL, Perl, DBI, Digest::MD5, POSIX, and CGI.pm.

    Changes: The username at login is no longer case sensitive. More CSS is
    used. More informaion is displayed on screen. Congestion was reduced.
    Multiple page search results are now possible. Expanded link information
    is now displayed when hovering over a link. The 'preview' screen was
    cleaned up. The page location indication for multi-page folders and search
    results was enhanced. In the administration interface, context was added
    to the "display user summary" button, user e-mail and link in user
    summary. A trap was added for quotes in link titles when posting new
    messages. A bug in indicating session messages at compression level '4'
    was fixed.

    System
    System :: Archiving

    About: The file renaming utilities (renameutils for short) are a set of
    programs designed to make renaming of multiple files faster and less
    cumbersome. It currently consists of two programs: "qmv" and "imv". qmv
    allows files to be renamed by editing their names in any text editor.
    Since the files are listed after each other, this allows common changes to
    be made more quickly. imv ("interactive mv") is trivial but useful when
    you are too lazy to type (or even complete) the name of the file to
    rename. It allows the filename to be edited in the terminal using the GNU
    readline library. This is also useful when renaming files in Midnight
    Commander, where the whole filename has to be entered again.

    Changes: Autowidth for dual-column is now enabled by default (really). An
    "Illegal instruction" crash with "-fdc -oseparate" was fixed.

    Internet
    Scientific/Engineering :: Artificial Intelligence
    Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics

    About: RISO is an implementation of heterogeneous, distributed belief
    networks in Java. A belief network is a probability model defined on an
    acyclic directed graph; distributed means nodes can be on different hosts,
    and heterogeneous means allowing different conditional distributions. The
    calculations involved are multidimensional integrations; exact results are
    known for a catalog of special cases. If a partial result cannot be
    calculated as a special case from the catalog, RISO computes an
    approximate result by numerical integration. Partial results are passed
    from one node in the graph to another as messages; if nodes live on
    different hosts, the belief network is said to be distributed. Messages
    are passed via RMI. Many example belief networks and lengthy documents are
    included in the RISO release bundle.
