    [001] - Aapl C++ Template Library 2.5.2
      by Adrian Thurston (http://freshmeat.net/users/age/)
      Wednesday, August 14th 2002 13:50

    Software Development :: Libraries

    About: Aapl is a C++ template library for generic programming. It contains
    Linked List, Avl Tree, Vector, Binary Search Table, Double Ended Queue,
    and Merge Sort. The library is designed to be versatile for the
    programmer. For example, the linked list utilizes both inheritance and
    templates to allow a single instance of a data structure to be an element
    in multiple lists. In general, Aapl data structures do not have private
    data members and are thus not abstracted away.

    Changes: Various bugs were fixed. Vector was largely rewritten to support
    classes with no default constructor. The assignment operator was
    implemented for the linked list, avl tree, and vector.

    [003] - Allin1 0.3.2
      by Mario (Reliant) (http://freshmeat.net/users/ilpettegolo/)
      Wednesday, August 14th 2002 19:14

    Desktop Environment :: Window Managers :: Fluxbox

    About: Allin1 is a little dock applet for FluxBox and similar window
    managers which monitors CPU load with a moving graph, memory and swap
    usage with histograms, battery and power status with histogram and icons,
    and ethernet/PPP interfaces with icons and histograms (linear or
    logaritmic).

    Changes: This is a more compact version with only one area with memory and
    swap histograms. Some "cosmetic" enhancements have been added; the border
    and the spacing between histograms can now be configured with an ASCII
    .conf file, through the variable "border".

    [004] - Astaro Security Linux 3.207 (Stable 3.x)
      by astaro (http://freshmeat.net/users/astaro/)
      Wednesday, August 14th 2002 16:02

    System :: Networking :: Firewalls

    About: Astaro Security Linux is a firewall solution. It does stateful
    packet inspection filtering, content filtering, user authentication, virus
    scanning, VPN with IPSec (PKI for X.509 certificates) and PPTP, and much
    more. With its Web-based management tool, WebAdmin, and the ability to
    pull updates via the Internet, it is pretty easy to manage. It is based on
    a special hardened Linux 2.4 distribution where most daemons are running
    in change-roots and are protected by kernel capabilities.

    Changes: This release adds support for the Sun Cobalt LX50. It fixes ID270
    (Network definition with the same name used in network groups), ID181 (the
    X509 Cert uses the wrong VPN ID after upload), and the SMTP proxy restart
    problem on the Pentium I/AMD K6.

    [009] - C++ Portable Types Library (PTypes) 1.5.0
      by Hovik Melikyan (http://freshmeat.net/users/hovik/)
      Wednesday, August 14th 2002 13:41

    Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers
    Software Development :: Libraries
    Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

    About: The C++ Portable Types Library (PTypes) is a simple alternative to
    the STL that includes multithreading and networking. It defines dynamic
    strings, character sets, lists, and other basic data types along with
    threads, synchronization, and IP sockets. It is portable across modern
    Unix and Windows systems, and includes a sample HTTP daemon showing the
    full power of the library.

    Changes: Wshare is becoming modular/scalable. Custom handlers for a new
    HTTP method, file extension, or a non-existent path can be easily
    incorporated into wshare at compile time. Currently this feaure is
    documented only in the source files. Wshare can now show the server status
    report through `http://localhost/.wstat'. Standard input, output, and
    error devices are decalred in pstreams.h as pin, pout, and perr stream
    objects respectively. There is a new printf-style formatted output method
    outstm::putf(). Several bugs and memory leak problems have been solved.

    [011] - cthumb 4.2
      by cpg (http://freshmeat.net/users/cpg/)
      Wednesday, August 14th 2002 12:23

    Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search
    Multimedia :: Graphics

    About: cthumb allows you to create Web albums of digital pictures with
    thumbnails, captions, and several different views of the collection,
    including (optionally) several languages and resolutions. An album is
    composed of a series of pages, each composed of a collection of pictures.
    You can have several annotations per picture, and can customize almost
    everything in the way the albums look on the screen.

    Changes: This release shortens long titles and descriptions to 50
    characters, joins lines that end in "\", adds parse_option loop
    optimizations, adds an HtmlExtension option for defining the preferred
    extension, adds a -H option for listing all available variables and where
    they apply, and fixes an InlineFiles bug, a diff issue for Solaris, some
    link color issues, and an AutoSlideTime problem.

    [012] - cvs-importer / svn-importer 0.3
      by Matthew Mueller (http://freshmeat.net/users/donut/)
      Wednesday, August 14th 2002 20:44

    Software Development :: Version Control :: CVS

    About: cvs-importer automates the task of importing all past versions of
    an existing project into CVS or Subversion, including automatically
    removing generated files, creating .cvsignore files/svn:ignore properties,
    and tagging each version. Thus, you can gain some of the advantages of scm
    for the older versions that weren't actually developed in cvs/svn, by
    having all the changes in the history.

    Changes: New support for subversion, a new test suite, ability to handle
    -rc version strings, recognizing the alternate configure.ac spelling for
    newer autoconf versions, fixing .cvsignore generation in subdirs, and
    changing the standard behavior to not create a global cvsignore file.

    [013] - DansGuardian Anti-Virus Scanner 1.0rc2
      by James A. Pattie (http://freshmeat.net/users/pcxuser/)
      Wednesday, August 14th 2002 16:22

    Internet :: Proxy Servers
    Security

    About: The DansGuardian Anti-Virus Scanner gives you the ability to
    virus-scan all content that passes through DansGuardian. It uses the
    scanning code from the MailScanner project to do the actual virus
    scanning, so it supports all the virus engines that the MailScanner
    project supports. The scanning is done as the file is being downloaded, so
    your current network apps don't have to be modified, etc. They just have
    to support using a proxy.

    Changes: A virusscan config option has been added to the dansguardian.conf
    file so that you can disable the virus scanning code for testing purposes,
    etc. All non HTML/text streams are now written to disk immediately instead
    of being kept in memory, so there is a big performance boost when
    downloading big files. This speeds up the file scanning process, as the
    machine no longer has to have more memory than the biggest file it will
    ever download.

    Communications
    Communications :: Chat :: AOL Instant Messenger
    Communications :: Chat :: ICQ

    About: Echomine Muse Communications API is a Java API with the goal of
    integrating all network-collaboration services into one. The API will give
    an easy-to-use interface that allows you to log on to multiple services
    i.e. ICQ, AIM, MSN, Yahoo Messenger, IRC, Napster, Gnutella, Jabber, and
    XMLRPC. There will be a client GUI Framework API to combine the use of all
    these services under one easy-to-access API, so that you can write the GUI
    client with much less effort.

    Changes: Napster has just been deprecated and removed in this release.
    Gnutella went through an entire overhaul to be more extensible, stable,
    and efficient, with the addition of many new features. Minor feature
    enhancements and fixes were made to the Jabber modules.

    and give birth to new pieces, and the goal is to take over the board with
    your team's pieces. It encourages both cooperation and competition between
    players. It includes an in-game chat mechanism, a server, and a Qt-based
    GUI client.

    Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
    Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
    Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

    About: FreeMarker allows Java servlets to keep graphic design separate
    from application logic, by encapsulating HTML in templates. Templates
    generate HTML dynamically, using data provided by the servlet. The
    template language is powerful and intuitive, the compiler is fast, and the
    output approaches the speed of static HTML pages.

    Changes: Shared data models can be configured so that they will be
    available as variables in all templates. TemplateModels can now access the
    template environment, reading and setting variables. The include directive
    has been enhanced to support the Zope-like "acquisition" algorithm.
    Documentation has been expanded and reorganized.

    [027] - Gringotts 0.6.0
      by Germano Rizzo (http://freshmeat.net/users/mano78/)
      Wednesday, August 14th 2002 16:29

    Desktop Environment :: Gnome
    Security
    Security :: Cryptography

    About: Gringotts is a small utility that allows you to jot down sensitive
    data (passwords, credit card numbers, PINs, etc.) in an easy-to-read,
    easy-to-access, and most of all very secure form. Gringotts makes use of
    the MCrypt and MHash libraries for encryption, and uses GTK+ 2 for the
    user interface. It lets the user choose from among eight strong encryption
    algorithms (RIJNDAEL-128, RIJNDAEL-256, SERPENT, TWOFISH, CAST-256,
    SAFER+, LOKI97, 3DES), two hashing algorithms (SHA1, RIPEMD 160) and two
    compression techniques (ZLib and BZip2) with four compression ratios.
    Moreover, it allows the user to use any file as a password, as an
    alternative to the usual text string, giving additional choices.

    Changes: Large parts of the code have been rewritten, and it should be
    considerably faster and more reliable. A bunch of memory leaks, buffer
    overflows, and security flaws have been corrected. Support for the first
    Gringotts file format has been dropped; if you've got a file created with
    an older version, you must convert it (by opening and saving it again with
    a newer version, 0.4.2 to 0.5.9) before using it. A shell launcher is no
    longer needed, so the application has only one executable now. The main
    toolbar has an indicator of the security state of the instance of the
    program.

    inheritance, and many classes that can be easily combined to quickly
    create complex user interfaces.

    Changes: The Combo API was completed, and the TextBuffer API was improved.

    source metrics, and source cross-references are all controlled by your
    POM.

    Changes: Jelly is now used for all XML scripting instead of Ant build
    files, which still provides Ant semantics but provides greater flexibility
    in processing your builds. Plugins can now be packaged in JARs and dropped
    into your Maven installation to add new functionality to your builds.

    About: LUFS is a hybrid userspace filesystem framework supporting an
    indefinite number of filesystems (localfs, sshfs, ftpfs, httpfs, socketfs,
    freenetfs, and nutellafs) transparently for any application. It can be
    regarded as doing the same job as the VFS (virtual filesystem switch) in
    the kernel: it is a switch, distributing the filesystem calls to its
    supported filesystems. However, LUFS filesystems are implemented in
    userspace. This would be a drawback for local filesystems where the access
    speed is important, but proves to be a huge advantage for networked

    conforming to POSIX standards, and utilizing light weight processes
    (threads), this product is able to handle a large number of transactions
    with high speed and minimal CPU usage.

    Changes: New features include FHMS internet gateway support, encryption of
    credit card numbers and passwords (with cast5, idea, rc4, rc5, or
    blowfish), engine status email notifications, safe shutdown improvements,
    and caching to improve SQL performance. The internal database is now
    indexed, and all communication methods are now modules. It is now possible
    to remove transaction history, force settlement, force batch number, and
    renumber batches. This release also lowers CPU utilization by about 50%
    under heavy loads.

    [080] - synergy2 0.9.8
      by Chris Schoeneman (http://freshmeat.net/users/crs/)
      Wednesday, August 14th 2002 00:05

    Desktop Environment

    About: Synergy lets you easily share a single mouse and keyboard between
    multiple computers with different operating systems without special
    hardware. It's intended for users with multiple computers on their desk
    since each system uses its own monitor(s). Just move the mouse off the
    edge of a screen to move to another screen; keyboard and mouse input is
    then redirected to the other screen. Synergy also lets you cut and paste
    between systems and it makes screen savers activate/deactivate in concert.

    [081] - sysstat 4.0.6
      by Midnight (http://freshmeat.net/users/chtodd/)
      Wednesday, August 14th 2002 23:44

    System :: Monitoring
    System :: Systems Administration

    About: The sysstat package contains the sar, mpstat, and iostat commands
    for Linux. The sar command collects and reports system activity
    information. This information can also be saved in a system activity file
    for future inspection. The iostat command reports CPU statistics and I/O
    statistics for tty devices and disks. The statistics reported by sar
    concern I/O transfer rates, paging activity, process-related activites,
    interrupts, network activity, memory and swap space utilization, CPU
    utilization, kernel activities, and TTY statistics, among others. Both UP
    and SMP machines are fully supported.

    Changes: mpstat now uses a bitmap of char instead of int to avoid
    endianness problems. As a consequence, mpstat should now work on PowerMac
    architectures. CPU activity as displayed by mpstat -P for a given
    processor was in a wrong range on SMP machines (e.g., 0-50% for a dual
    processor box). A missing bitmap initialization was fixed in mpstat.c, and
    updates were made to the configuration script and the FAQ.

    [082] - Tixapps 1.6
      by idiscovery (http://freshmeat.net/users/idiscovery/)
      Wednesday, August 14th 2002 03:14

    Software Development :: Debuggers
    Software Development :: Documentation
    Software Development :: Interpreters

    About: Tixapps applications are a suite of development applications that
    run with TCL/Tk or Python, using the Tix widget set. Applications
    currently included in Tixapps are tixinspect (an inspector for Tix/Tk
    applications), tixdebug (a debugger to work with tixinspect), and tixinfo
    (an info browser for GNU documentation).

    Changes: This version introduces ObjTix, a simple bit of semantic sugar
    that exposes Tix's object oriented class commands. The current ObjTcl
    classes will be moved to ObjTix. It also adds two Python wrappers for
    TkHTML and TkTable.

    [083] - VServer 0.19
      by Prakash Shetty aka crux (http://freshmeat.net/users/crux/)
      Wednesday, August 14th 2002 18:36

    About: VServer virtual servers operate like a normal Linux server, but
    allow many independent servers to be run simultaneously in one box. These
    can involve normal services such as telnet, mail, Web, and SQL servers -
    in most cases using a standard configuration. The services are unaware of
    the virtual server concept. Each virtual server has its own user account
    database and root password. Each vserver uses standard packages and runs
    at the same speed as a non-VServer installation.

    Changes: C++ compilation issues were solved. Debian support was added.
    Multiple IP addresses on several devices are now supported. You can setup
    up to 16 IPs per vserver. All the scripts have been modified to allow the
    package to be moved to a different location. The vrpm command now tries to
    run the rpm command in the proper context (if the vserver is running) so
    that the post-install script will have proper effect (and won't interfere
    with the root server). The various pseudo services such as v_httpd and
    friends have been reworked to support multiple IP addresses.

    [084] - Whitebeam 0.9.20 (Development)
      by Peter Wilson (http://freshmeat.net/users/peterw8102/)
      Wednesday, August 14th 2002 03:16

    Database :: Front-Ends
    Internet
    Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content

    About: Whitebeam is a frontend XML-centered rapid design environment which
    makes use of HTML/XML and JavaScript. It integrates two popular and robust
    Open Source platforms (Apache and Mozilla's SpiderMonkey JavaScript
    engine), with its own powerful XML environment and security architecture.
    Providing an extensible XML-based interface to backend objects on any
    platform, the client model securely segregates thousands of customer
    applications within a single server.

    Changes: This release adds additional XML/XPath capabilities and makes it
    easier to transition from text based PHP applications to XML and
    JavaScript based Whitebeam applications. Debugging and Apache
    ErrorDocument handler pages have been made easier.

    [085] - WPP 2.13.1.25 (Development)
      by LM (http://freshmeat.net/users/lm/)
      Wednesday, August 14th 2002 19:12

    Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
    Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
    Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

    About: WPP is a small perl5 script that allows preprocessing of HTML
    files. It allows you to define "variables", which are brief abbreviations
    for longer constructs, and include common HTML fragments. It's useful for
    giving a uniform layout to different HTML pages. It can be used in cgi-bin
    programs for automatic generation of pages. With less HTML code inside you
    can make more flexible cgi-scripts.

    Changes: This release adds wpplib, a standard macros library for WPP. A
    config file can now be placed into subdirs, and it will be included and
    merged with the main one only for files contained in that subdirectory.
    XHTML output has been added for builtin macros through the -x or -xhtml
    switches or the builtin macro XHTML_OUTPUT. Macro overloading has been
    added; the same macro can now be defined multiple times with a different
    number of parameters. DEFAULT_TMPLPATH and TMPLPATH have replaced
    DEFAULT_TMPLDIR and TMPLDIR; you can now specify multiple template paths.

    its behaviour, filename globbing, features to make C-shell (csh) users
    feel more at home and extra features drawn from tcsh.

    Changes: A few enhancements were made in the completion function system
    and the functions for the editor. Otherwise, this release consists of
    bugfixes since the release of 4.0.4 last October.
