    About: ADODB is a set of advanced PHP database abtraction classes. It
    supports MySQL, PostgreSQL, Interbase/Firebird, Informix, Sybase SQL
    Anywhere, Oracle, MS SQL 7, Sybase, DB2, FrontBase, Foxpro, Access, ADO,
    and generic ODBC. A metatype system is built in, making it possible to
    figure out that types such as CHAR, TEXT, and STRING are equivalent in
    different databases. It also features an SQL to HTML popup menu and SQL to
    HTML table support. It has code to support record paging and blob/clob
    support.

    Changes: This release adds support for returning Oracle REF cursor
    variables as record sets with the new ExecuteCursor function. Some MySQL
    inconsistencies in the Replace function have been fixed. There is better
    PostgreSQL error handling.

    Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation

    About: aiSee reads a textual, easy-to-read, and easy-to-learn graph
    specification and automatically calculates a customizable graph layout.
    This layout is then displayed, and can be printed or interactively
    explored. aiSee features 15 basic graph layout algorithms (including
    force-directed layout), recursive subgraph nesting, fish-eye views, and an
    animation interface. It has been optimized to handle huge graphs
    automatically generated by applications (e.g. compilers).

    Changes: Graphs may now be exported to Portable Network Graphics (PNG)
    format. Enhancements include usability improvements: aiSee now allows one
    to first select a node or a subgraph and then to decide which operation to
    perform (view additional information, fold/unfold, etc.). Available
    options are always listed in the message window. The export to SVG format
    has been enhanced.

    Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management

    About: aMember is a flexible user management script. It has support for
    PayPal and Clickbank payment systems, and allows you to setup paid
    membership areas on your site. It also can be used without any payment
    system (you can manage users manually). Unique features are support for
    multiple payment systems at the same time and support for multiple
    products (subscriptions) with different levels of access, pricing, and
    time periods.

    Changes: A bug with template_cache_level=2 and member.php current
    subscriptions display has been fixed. Minor bugfixes in templates were
    made. Some code cleanup is complete, and comments in the source code were
    improved.

    Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
    Software Development :: Libraries

    About: CwMtx is a library written in C++ that provides the matrix and
    vector operations that are used extensively in engineering and science
    problems. A special feature of this library is the quaternion class which
    implements quaternion math. Quaternions are very useful for attitude
    determination in 3D space because they do not suffer from singularities.
    Furthermore, successive rotations and transformations of vectors can be
    accomplished by simple quaternion multiplication. Attitude dynamics can be
    expressed in a very compact form using quaternions

    Changes: A bug in Matrix initialisation using a quaternion was fixed. The
    printed form was changed to be compatible with Octave/MatLab. Explicit use
    of "cout" in the print operator was removed. Some fine-tuning was done to
    get the templates to work with matrices with structured elements.

    Changes: This library is functionally equivalent to the cwmtx template
    library except it lacks functions for dynamic dimensions. The static
    version is much faster than the dynamically dimensioned version.

    About: ICU provides a Unicode implementation, with functions for
    formatting numbers, dates, times, and currencies (according to locale
    conventions, transliteration, and parsing text in those formats). It
    provides flexible patterns for formatting messages, where the pattern
    determines the order of the variable parts of the messages, and the format
    for each of those variables. These patterns can be stored in resource
    files for translation to different languages. Included are more than 100
    codepage converters for interaction with non-unicode systems.

    Changes: This release supports properties and algorithms at the Unicode
    3.2 level. It adds CESU-8 and BOCU-1, and upgraded UTF-8 and UTF-32
    support for IANA BOM behavior. Data loading is now much more flexible with
    multiple search paths. C++ memory management and Break Iteration rules are
    now customizible, with full supplemental characters. Transliterators for

    Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: MIDI

    About: LegaSynth is an old chip/synthesizer emulator on top of an advanced
    software sound synthesis programming framework. It currently emulates the
    Yamaha DX7 FM Synth, the MOS6581SID (C64 soundchip), the Yamaha 2xxx FM
    series (very common in some personal synths, arcades, and the Sega
    Genesis), and the TB303. It supports the ALSA Sequencer API for midi
    input, and OSS/ALSA and JACK for output. A GTK graphical interface is
    provided to take full advantage of the synth, as well as for managing
    presets, patches, and banks, etc.

    Changes: A new TB303 emulation core and SID filters, and many bugfixes.

      Tuesday, August 20th 2002 21:44

    Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: News/Diary

    About: Lemonade is a basic content management system. It allows users to
    post and edit news items in a very simple way. It accepts raw HTML as
    input, so you can use all your favourite tags for formatting (including
    other languages, like PHP, ASP, etc.).

    Changes: A potential bug/security hole was fixed; users could accidently
    or purposely insert two backticks (``) in certain fields of their posting,
    causing corruption of the flatfile database. These characters are now
    converted to 'safer' apostrophes (') before posting. 'tmpl' files were
    updated to incorporate new changes of subroutines, and to fix the broken
    'Change Password' link. '$| = 1;' was added to 'common.cgi' to pre-flush
    STDOUT. The archive also contains files from 'AuthLib' (no parts of
    'AuthLib' are implemented yet).

    [052] - Make CD-ROM Recovery v0.6.6

    System :: Archiving :: Backup
    System :: Archiving :: Compression
    System :: Installation/Setup

    About: mkCDrec (Make CD-ROM Recovery) makes a bootable (El Torito)
    disaster recovery image, including backups of the Linux system to one or
    more CD-ROM(s) (multi-volume sets). Otherwise, the backups can be stored
    on another disk, NFS disk, or (remote) tape. After a disk crash or system
    intrusion, the system can be booted from the CD-ROM and one can restore
    the complete system as it was. It also features disk cloning, which allows
    one to restore a disk to another disk (the destination disk does not have
    to be of the same size, as it calculates the partition layout itself).
    Currently, ext2, ext3, minix, MS-DOS, FAT, VFAT, Reiserfs, XFS, and JFS
    filesystems are supported. mkCdrec is also able to restore disks in
    Software RAID and LVM mode.

    Changes: The tty bug has been removed and /tmp is no longer completely
    excluded at backup time. This makes the restore of RedHat 7.3 better, and
    even XFree works without problems. NTFS support has been added, and
    several minor bugs were fixed.

    [076] - REXML 2.5.1 (Development)
      by Sean Russell (http://freshmeat.net/users/serxx/)
      Tuesday, August 20th 2002 02:26

    About: REXML is an XML 1.0 compliant, reasonably fast, non-validating XML
    parser. It has an API that is designed to be intuitive, straightforward.
    and terse. REXML includes a tree model parser, a SAX2 streaming parser,
    and a pull parser. It also includes a full XPath implementation. All of
    REXML's parsers pass 100% of the Oasis XML non-validating tests.

    Changes: Support for SJIS and EUS_JP encodings, and an improved encoding
    support architecture, simplifying the addition of encodings. A problem
    with whitespace after the XML declaration and before root node being
    incorrectly handled was fixed. This release adds start_document and
    end_document to the SAX2 API, speeds up SAX parsing in most cases, fixed a
    bug in the mailing list manager, and fixed a bug in Functions::substring.

    Communications
    Software Development

    About: Somnifugi is an implementation of JMS that works exclusively inside
    a single JVM to transfer messages between threads. Somnifugi lets you
    create very loosely coupled subsystems that communicate using the JMS APIs
    without the overhead of sockets. Somnifugi is particularly useful for
    isolating the awt Thread so that the user interface will stay lively, for
    decoupling calls to slower external resources such as database
    connections, and for speeding up implementations of generic JMS clients by
    placing decoupled JMS clients in the same JVM.

    Changes: Support for JMS 1.1, support for message properties, and
    primitive support for message selectors in Topics were added.
    overview.html was added, along with the junit toolkit.jar to let tests
    fail (using Throwable). The meta directory's source was added to the
    source code bundle, and properties were added to messages. Simple Java
    predicates were hard coded in a Somnifugi specific interface to start work
    on message selectors. Properties are now copied through jmsbridge. Version
    information was added to the .jar files.
