    System :: Networking
    System :: Networking :: Firewalls

    About: AGT is a powerful console frontend for iptables. It allows all
    options to be specified in easy-to-read configuration files, allowing you
    to make complex changes to your firewall/gateway in a matter of seconds.

    Changes: This is a maintenance release, fixing many issues regarding
    memory leaks and buffer overflows, with added bounds checking. Also, the
    program refuses to execute if the user is not root.

    [002] - AMaViS "Next Generation" 0.1.4.1
      by Hilko Bengen (http://freshmeat.net/users/bengen/)
      Tuesday, August 27th 2002 15:03

    Communications :: Email :: Filters

    About: AMaViS-ng is a modular rewrite of amavisd and amavis-perl. It scans
    email for malicious code inside attachments and archive files, stopping
    delivery if malicious code is found. It supports integration of several
    third-party virus scanners and integrates nicely into several MTA setups.
    Unlike amavis-perl and amavisd, there is no need for build-time
    configuration.

    Changes: Some configuration bugs have been fixed. A README about security
    considerations has been added. Man pages have been added. The Debian build
    scripts have been updated for using with Woody (3.0) and Sarge.

      by Ryan VanMiddlesworth (http://freshmeat.net/users/ryanvm/)
      Tuesday, August 27th 2002 14:54

    Communications :: Email :: Filters

    About: batemail is a Perl script that you slip between your MTA (e.g.
    Sendmail) and your local mailer (e.g. Procmail) to strip potentially nasty
    attachments from email messages. It takes input on STDIN, removes
    executable MIME attachments, and gives the result to the local mailer. The
    criteria for a taboo attachment are that the filename ends in one of
    several "blacklisted" extensions (EXE, VBS, etc.).

    Changes: A couple potential security holes have been cleaned up.

      Tuesday, August 27th 2002 00:59

    Internet :: WWW/HTTP
    Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: Page Counters

    About: BBclone is a PHP Web counter on steroids which displays individual
    logs as well as aggregated data. It is a clone of Big Brother webstats,
    except that it is written in PHP and it relies only on flat files (no
    database needed). BBclone enables any Web site administrator to have a
    very precise view of who visit the website: OS, browser, date, referring
    page etc. Main features include reload resistance, hostname resolution,
    proxy workaround, and blacklist.

    Changes: All the code is being rewritten and split into several
    sub-directories. A new installation script written in PHP was included,
    and a new language file format is being used. All of the stats were merged
    in one PHP file, and have been separated into several pages (global,
    detailed, and time stats). Time statistics for the last day, week, month,
    and year are now available.

      Tuesday, August 27th 2002 04:49

    Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers
    Software Development :: Libraries
    Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

    About: The C++ Portable Types Library (PTypes) is a simple alternative to
    the STL that includes multithreading and networking. It defines dynamic
    strings, character sets, lists, and other basic data types along with
    threads, synchronization, and IP sockets. It is portable across modern
    Unix and Windows systems, and includes a sample HTTP daemon showing the
    full power of the library.

    Changes: In this release token extraction methods can now optionally limit
    input and throw an exception if the token exceeds the limit. This new
    feature is targeted to real-world networking applications. A new section,
    "Portability and Performance Issues", and an alphabetical reference for
    all public symbols have been added in the documentation. Examples for the
    sockets interface and some other modules have been rewritten to be cleaner
    and more educational.

      by toopriddy (http://freshmeat.net/users/toopriddy/)
      Tuesday, August 27th 2002 01:13

    Desktop Environment :: Gnome
    System :: Networking

    About: Cheops-ng is a network management tool for mapping and monitoring
    your network. It has host/network discovery functionality and OS
    detection, and does a port scan of each computer to tell what services are
    running. It can probe FTP, HTTP, ssh, email (port 25), news, IMAP, and VNC
    to see what version and type of server is running on those ports.

    Changes: Added software to report the state of scanned ports (open,
    closed, or filtered), added software to display the RPC version and
    information from nmap scans, added software for taking screenshots, and
    fixed XML parsing problems. Bugs were fixed in the IO processing code, and
    an option for truncating a FQDN down to the hostname was included. RPMS
    are now available.

    Scientific/Engineering :: Electronic Design Automation (EDA)
    Text Editors :: Integrated Development Environments (IDE)

    About: ChipVault is a chip development program for organizing VHDL and
    Verilog designs. ChipVault displays designs hierarchically and provides
    for rapid design navigation and editor launching. ChipVault provides hooks
    for performing bottom-up tasks such as launching RTL compilers, synthesis,
    block generation and instantiation, and includes simple to use Revision
    Control and Issue Tracking systems to help facilitate large group design
    projects with multiple designers and hundreds of design files. ChipVault
    is written in Perl and is small, fast, and efficient.

    Changes: A CVtogo feature was added for importing and exporting chip
    design databases to Palm PDAs. A new HLIST generation wizard was added,
    and the Tab key was bound for rapid file check-ins and outs. A
    Report_Analysis() feature analyzes synthesis reports, and a trace log was
    added for developers. MTI path support allows for multiple users
    performing simultaneous simulations. Approximately 20 miscellaneous
    bugfixes were also made.

    [015] - Cook 2.21
      by Peter Miller (http://freshmeat.net/users/pmiller/)
      Tuesday, August 27th 2002 11:02

    Software Development :: Build Tools

    About: Cook is a tool for constructing files. It is given a set of files
    to create, and recipes of how to create them. In any non-trivial program
    there will be prerequisites to performing the actions necessary to
    creating any file, such as include files. Cook provides a mechanism to
    define these. When a program is being developed or maintained, the
    programmer will typically change one file of several which comprise the
    program. Cook examines the last-modified times of the files to see when
    the prerequisites of a file have changed, implying that the file needs to
    be recreated as it is logically out of date.

    Changes: The c_incl(1) command now accepts the -stripdot and -nostripdot
    options. These may be used to control the removal of redundant leading dot
    directories. A bug has been fixed where cascade recipes failed to heed the
    stripdot setting. There is a new [stripdot] function, so that you can
    strip leading dot directories from file names within functions. A bug has
    been fixed in how the builtin functions which manipulate build graphs were
    called. This fixes a problem with freeing a string which had already been
    freed.

    Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Browsers
    Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers
    Multimedia :: Video :: Display

    About: CrossOver Plugin lets you use Windows plugins directly in your
    Linux browser. With CrossOver you can watch QuickTime movies, play
    Shockwave Director games, and even view Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
    documents using the Microsoft viewers.

    Changes: This release fixes the QuickTime 6 installation issues. CrossOver
    Plugin now ships with a known good FreeType library. It has been updated
    to work with both FreeType 2.0.x and 2.1.x libraries. The stale socket
    issues should be gone, greatly reducing the need for running
    cleanup_crossover.sh. Improved multi-user support, notably for Windows
    Media Player, has been added. PluginSetup will now detect if a browser is
    running during the installation of a plugin and issue a warning. Upgrades
    and uninstallations should be much cleaner. Many other fixes have been
    made.

    About: CSBuddy is a tool designed to help Counter-Strike server owners,
    particularly those running AdminMod. It maintains a queryable database of
    all players that have been seen on the server, and it filters the raw logs
    of a Counter-Strike server and distills them into a single CSBuddy log
    which shows only high-level activity such as excessive friendly fire
    incidents, admin activity, and players complaining about misbehavior or
    saying suspicious things. This tool is built upon an included
    Counter-Strike log file parser which is provided in a simple derivable
    class.

    About: The Cyrus IMAP server is generally intended to be run on sealed
    systems, where normal users are not permitted to log in. The mailbox
    database is stored in parts of the filesystem that are private to Cyrus.
    All user access to mail is through the IMAP, POP3, or KPOP protocols. The
    private mailbox database design gives the server large advantages in
    efficiency, scalability, and administratability. Multiple concurrent
    read/write connections to the same mailbox are permitted. The server
    supports access control lists on mailboxes and storage quotas on mailbox
    hierarchies, multiple SASL mechanisms, and the Sieve mail filtering
    language.

    Changes: This release fixes a locking problem during CREATE operations
    that was introduced in 2.1.7. It also includes a performance improvement
    for RENAME operations and a small fix to the rehash script.

    About: The libmibparse project is a general purpose front end mib parsing
    library. It uses yacc and lex (actually flex and bison) to create a parse
    tree for SNMPv2 MIB modules. In addition to the standard SNMP V2 syntax,
    it also supports a keyword extention using a name/value syntax with
    optional explicit binding of keywords to mib objects. The libmibparse
    engine is a multi-state context dependent LALR parser. The lexer supports
    multiple seperate contexts to control tokenization of SNMP types and
    values. Also included is mibparse, a program which provides an example of
    how to use this library to parse and resolve a large collection of mib
    modules.

    Changes: This release includes minor fixes and performance tuning.
    Additionally, it contains files and changes which were omitted from the
    first release (mibparse.c and mibparse.h). Users are encouraged to contact
    the author regarding issues and questions.

    About: McPics is a small, simple image gallery. It is a nearly complete
    rewrite of agal. It produces very clean, very organized, and fully valid
    XHTML 1.0 and CSS2. You can either use the included page for a standard
    gallery setup, or you can use PHP to include McPics in your other pages.
    It uses a bash script and ImageMagick to create thumbnails.

    Changes: Installation and usage has changed in this release. Instead of
    just copying the files to a directory, installation is similar to other
    applications. Simply running "mcpics" in a directory now generates a
    gallery. A bug with displaying layouts other than 4x16 was fixed, the

    [067] - Perl MD5 Secure Login 0.30

    About: Perl MD5 Secure Login is a Web-based framework for implementing an
    MD5-based encryption scheme on both client (using browser JavaScript) and
    server (using Perl Digest::MD5) for a secure password login to Web
    applications. Unlike .htaccess, the password is never stored or
    transmitted as plain text.

    Changes: Cookies sessions now check the IP address of the client. During
    the initial user authorization, their IP address is stored, referenced by
    their cookie ID. The session cookie and the current environment IP address
    must match during future accesses, or the cookie session validation will
    fail. Also, if the md5.js javascript file was not installed in the right
    location, the password would be sent un-encrypted. The javascript md5 code
    is now output to the browser with a Perl print statement. Since the MD5
    algorithm is public, it doesn't matter that people can see the MD5 code.
