Multimedia :: Video
Multimedia :: Video :: Display

About: Avifile is a library that allows you to read and write compressed
AVI files in most common video & audio formats (Indeo® Video, DivX, etc.)
under x86 Linux. Compression and decompression are performed with Win32
DLLs. It includes a simple AVI player and a Video4Linux capture program.
Currently it is under heavy development, and while some features (such as
AVI playback) already work, some (audio compression) are not yet
successfully implemented.

Changes: XFT support has been reenabled. A file missing from the 33
release has been added.

[003] - ayttm 0.2.3
  by Colin Leroy (http://freshmeat.net/users/colinleroy/)
  Thursday, April 3rd 2003 04:58

Communications :: Chat

About: Ayttm is an instant messenger program, supporting various protocols
such as MSN, Yahoo, AIM, Jabber, and more. It is a fork of Everybuddy, and
initially aims to address its problems. It should not segfault when you
use it, and should be almost instantly usable by your mother. Almost
useless prefs should be hidden, reserved for "advanced" users, and things
have to work without wondering what this or that will produce.

Changes: Segfaults, memory leaks, compilation warnings, and logic bugs
were fixed. This version also features asynchronous connections, MSN
NetMeeting integration, and chat room conversation logging.

  Thursday, April 3rd 2003 04:57

Games/Entertainment :: First Person Shooters
Utilities

About: CSBuddy is a tool designed to help Counter-Strike server owners,
particularly those running AdminMod. It maintains a queryable database of
all players that have been seen on the server, and it filters the raw logs
of a Counter-Strike server and distills them into a single CSBuddy log
which shows only high-level activity such as excessive friendly fire
incidents, admin activity, and players complaining about misbehavior or
saying suspicious things. This tool is built upon an included
Counter-Strike log file parser which is provided in a simple derivable
class.

Changes: Annotations for players connecting, disconnecting, and changing
names, and changes to the map were added to the streaming chat log file
for reference. A force option (-f) was also added.

  by Jeff Pace (http://freshmeat.net/users/JEugenePace/)
  Thursday, April 3rd 2003 10:01

Software Development :: Version Control :: CVS

About: cvsdelta helps manage a CVS project, identifying the local files
that have been added, changed, or deleted. The relevant files can be
automatically added to and removed from CVS. A list of files is produced,
with a summary of content differences, i.e. the number of lines of code
that have been added, changed, and deleted.

Changes: A bug which occurred when there were no changed files has been
fixed. Verbose (debugging) output has been improved.

[012] - CVSps 2.0b10 (Beta)
  by David Mansfield (http://freshmeat.net/users/davidlmansfield/)
  Thursday, April 3rd 2003 14:30

Software Development :: Version Control
Software Development :: Version Control :: CVS

About: CVSps is a program for generating 'patchset' information from a CVS
repository. A patchset in this case is defined as a set of changes made to
a collection of files, and all committed at the same time (using a single
'cvs commit' command). This information is valuable to seeing the big
picture of the evolution of a cvs project. CVSps allows you to see history
of committed patchsets, restrict by author, date range, files affected,
branches affected. CVSps can generate a diff of a given patchset.

Changes: This release fixes a bug where unescaped characters were being
sent to the shell, causing problems if working filenames contained these
characters. The 'fuzz' concept was improved to handle very slow commits of
a huge number of files. A bug in the detection of the client and server
CVS version was fixed. Other changes since the last announced release
include numerous fixes for the generation of add/remove diffs, a fix for
the 'hang-at-close' bug using cvs-direct and compression, and the addition
of rlog capability to cvs-direct. This release is completely independant
of a cvs binary.

  Thursday, April 3rd 2003 10:05

Database :: Front-Ends
Office/Business
Software Development

About: DataVision is a reporting tool similar to Crystal Reports, written
in Java. It supports multiple data sources (JDBC, text files) and output
formats (HTML, XML, PDF, LaTeX, comma- and tab-separated data files, and
DocBook). It lets you design reports with a drag-and-drop GUI. Report
descriptions are stored as XML.

Changes: This is a bugfix release. SQL tables would still sometimes not
load their columns. They should now. The HTML layout engine now uses
"font-family", not "font-name", when specifying a field's font.

About: DB_DataContainer is a PEAR-compliant database persistence layer and
data encapsulation class. It encapsulates the behavior required to make
objects persistent, including loading, saving, and deleting objects in a
persistent store. It currently supports relational databases and uses PEAR
DB for database abstraction.

Changes: This version uses DB::autoExecute() instead of internally
building queries. It has been successfully tested with Postgres and MySQL.

About: eimSMS is a Perl hack for sending SMS messages via the Internet. It
uses an external gateway library called WWW-SMS to relay SMS messages. The
core part of eimSMS is written in Perl, so it is platform-independent and
runs on all environments which are supported by perl and libwww-perl.
eimSMS comes with a built in update function which allows you to checkout
the latest WWW-SMS gateway library via CVS. Furthermore additional
modules, written in different programming languages, can be used to extend
the capabilities of the eimSMS core. This allows you to use eimSMS as a
mail to SMS forwarder, a remote security warning tool, a SMS Web gateway,
or anything else you want.

[027] - GRender 0.1.0-beta
  by Davide Petilli (http://freshmeat.net/users/LordGolem/)
  Thursday, April 3rd 2003 08:37

Multimedia :: Graphics :: 3D Rendering

About: GRender is a GTK+ frontend for the A|W Maya and MentalRay for Maya
render. It handles render job queues without starting the Maya's
interface, using all the power of the workstation.

Changes: This is an early release: you cannot save sessions, cannot modify
options without re-compiling, and MentalRay isn't implemented yet.
However, it can render with Maya's default renderer, handle queues, and
override Maya's Render Globals. This is a beta version, so it isn't
recommended for use in a production environment.

[030] - HTML Sucks Completely 0.929
  by Matthias Bethke (http://freshmeat.net/users/msbethke/)
  Thursday, April 3rd 2003 14:41

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Text Processing :: Markup :: HTML

About: HSC (HTML Sucks Completely) is a developer tool for HTML projects.
It can be used on any HTML file and creates a new HTML file as output. In
the input file, you may use an extended syntax based on HTML, which allows
for things like macros, conditionals variables, expressions, etc. It is
mainly intended for creating and maintaining larger HTML projects. As a
commandline tool, it can be used together with make, and a dependency
generator is included.

Changes: This release has some support for CSS checking, CSS style
definitions in prefs, a GETFILEDATE operator, and stricter /MUST_BE_INSIDE
tag modifier semantics in XHTML mode. It fixes the JENS command line
switch, and minor hiccoughs of the /OBSOLETE attribute modifier. A VIM
syntax highlighter for HSC sources has been added. The documentation and
macro collection have been updated.

replacement for both libc and libncurses.

Changes: Sillyness in the text windowing system has been fixed -- it no
longer updates the cursor location for every single character. Command
line argument handling has been completely rewritten. It is much more
simple, and works properly in all cases now (see the new script example

[032] - JaxMeJS 1.05
  by Jochen Wiedmann (http://freshmeat.net/users/jochenw/)
  Thursday, April 3rd 2003 14:25

Software Development :: Code Generators

About: The JaxMe JavaSource generation framework (a spinoff of the JaxMe
Java/XML binding tool) is an object-oriented view to a set of Java classes
created by you. For example, there are objects JavaSource, JavaMethod, and
so on. Features include automatic generation of import lists,
semiautomatic indentation, and the ability to postprocess generated
sources. This allows source code generation to be a pipelining process.

Changes: A framework for generating SQL statements has been added. The
framework allows the setup of a tree of objects (schema, tables, columns,
and keys) and operate on the tree, generating CREATE, INSERT, SELECT, and
other statements.

[033] - JCards 3.6
  by Nick Sydenham (http://freshmeat.net/users/nsydenham/)
  Thursday, April 3rd 2003 06:45

Database
Information Management :: Records Management

About: JCards is a free Java application designed to store and manage data
in any format that the user defines. Instead of having multiple
applications/spreadsheets to manage passwords, tasks, shopping lists,
etc., JCards allows the user to define a database that contains the fields
they want. This is accomplished via an easy to use interface that requires
no understanding of SQL or any other database jargon. JCards was initially
developed for the Sharp Zaurus SL-5x00 PDA, but will run on any desktop or
PDA that has a 1.1 or above version of the Java Virtual Machine on it. The
advantage of this is that the user can use the same application on the PDA
and desktop to manage their data.

Changes: New date formats were added. The ability to browse through cards
in display mode was added (turn off auto-edit in preferences). CSV import
will automatically create fields if none are defined and the CSV file
lists them as the first line. You can change an existing field's type to
String or Memo. A logging facility was added.

About: JVerify is a Java application that enables you to monitor for
changes in any file on your Unix system, but most notably executable
binaries, thus alerting you to a possibly backdoored binary. It runs on
any platform that supports JSDK 1.4.x and has a MySQL database (will
expand to other DBs in the future).

Changes: A new configuration file option was added (runmode) which when
selected, will store the binary itself in the database when the
application first populates the database. If a binary is infected and the
appplicaton is running in "replace" runmode, it will replace the infected
binary with the (assumed) clean copy from the database, as well as send

[069] - sugarplum 0.9.10
  by aqua (http://freshmeat.net/users/aquaaqua/)
  Thursday, April 3rd 2003 05:13

Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: Sugarplum is an automated spam-poisoner. Its purpose is to feed
large quantities of realistic and enticing but otherwise utterly useless
data to wandering spam-bots such as EmailSiphon, Cherry Picker, etc. The
intention is to so contaminate spammers' databases as to require culling
out large portions, including any real data, and/or to require that
spambots be instructed to avoid your site. It includes Apache mod_rewrite
rules for known spambots.

Changes: Revisions were made to deterministic mode to accommodate
virtualhosting, and to reduce output predictability when mapped in a
predictable location.

single time, by calculating the instantaneous Shannon probability of all
equities, and using statistical estimation techniques to estimate the
accuracy of the calculated Shannon probability. Entropic techniques are
used throughout. A tutorial is presented in the man(1) pages and a
companion equity market simulation program is included. Additionally,
there is a fragment of the US exchange daily closes for demonstration.

Changes: An option that optimizes margin buying was added.
