[001] - Apache Hello World Benchmarks 1.03
by Josh Chamas (http://freshmeat.net/users/ayafm/)
Saturday, April 5th 2003 11:53
System :: Benchmark
About: Apache Hello World Benchmarks is a benchmarking tool that seeks to
give a sense of Web application execution speed on various software
platforms running under the Apache Web server. Benchmarks can vary greatly
from system to system, so this tool allows one to get numbers on one's own
platform. Applications tested include mod_perl, mod_php, Tomcat, and
Apache::ASP, with over 62 benchmarks in all.
Changes: Benchmarks were added for mod_cgi, CGI.pm, Hello World 2000, and
the C Apache module MySQL HelloDB. MaxRequestsPerChild was increased to
2000 in the basic Apache configuration as general speed enhancement for
the benchmarks.

by Gernot Hillier (http://freshmeat.net/users/yoda_gh/)
Saturday, April 5th 2003 03:10
Communications :: Fax
Communications :: Telephony
About: CapiSuite is an ISDN telecommunication suite providing easy-to-use
telecommunication functions which can be controlled from Python scripts.
It uses a CAPI-compatible driver for accessing the ISDN-hardware, so
you'll need a CAPI-compatible driver. CapiSuite is distributed with two
example scripts for call incoming handling and fax sending. They provide a
multi-user answering machine with fax recognition, remote inquiry, and fax
receiving/sending functions.
Changes: A bug in the cron script that allowed every CapiSuite user to
become root was fixed. The RC script was fixed, and new tests were
included for compatibility with GCC 2.95 and 3. The program now respects
controller abilities when connecting (for example, by using extended fax
protocols if available). This also works around a severe crash with the
AVM drivers when transmitting a fax to or from some analog devices.

[011] - ErfurtWiki R1.00e
by milky (http://freshmeat.net/users/milky/)
Saturday, April 5th 2003 16:16
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
About: ErfurtWiki is a small Wiki engine implemented in PHP which can
store its pages in a MySQL, ADOdb, or a flat file database. The Wiki
source parsing is rather complete but is very extensible. It stands out
from other Wikis in that it does not define the whole page layout itself;
instead it allows for very quick integration into an existing Web site.
The core 'library' is fully contained in one script file, but a collection
of extension plugins is also available. Additionally, it can cache
referenced images. The simplicity of the image uploading function makes it
also a good choice as 'lite' CMS for private homepages.
Changes: The database backends db_fast_files and db_dba/dbm were added.
Fixes were made for the prev. version edit bug, the reconcatenated $author
string, the dbff filename problems, and the PHP4.1 fputs()
incompatibility. Many things were added, including verbose error messages
at initialization, an edit mode cancel and a textarea resizing JavaScript
link, a small README.de, workarounds for the Apache+PHP_CGI PATH_INFO bug,
a spellcheck plugin, a page version diff plugin, the RandomPage plugin and
the BBcode markup emulation, and an email address protection plugin. A
general per-page calendar plugin was contributed.

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Analysis
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Speech
About: eXtace is a visual sound display/analysis program. It requires
Esound (esd) for its audio source. It includes various fast fourier
transforms of the audio data in realtime. Its displays include a 3D
wireframe flying landscape, a 3D textured flying landscape, a 16-256
channel graphic EQ, three types of scopes, a 3D "spike" flying landscape,
and two forms of spectragrams. The 3D traces can be picked up,
manipulated, and displayed at nearly any angle. eXtace also features a 3D
direction control widget for controlling the angle and speed at which the
trace runs away and a gradient/colormap editor for changing the colormap
to suit your needs. No OpenGL is required.
Changes: Compilation bugs related to the newer GCC 3.x compilers were
fixed, as was an elusive, long-standing bug where eXtace failed to reopen
its main window at the same position and dimensions as the previous run.

[013] - fbmodes 1.2.2
by Bisqwit (http://freshmeat.net/users/Bisqwit/)
Saturday, April 5th 2003 21:07
System :: Hardware
Utilities
About: fbmodes is a display mode generator. Give it your desired screen
resolution and refresh rate, and the program gives you a working display
mode. Optionally you can tell the wanted horizontal and vertical sync
lengths and invisible area sizes to finetune the mode. The package
contains actually two programs. One of them just does the math, and
another actually testes the mode showing some graphics to measure how much
the mode needs to be corrected.
Changes: Version 1.2.1 had misconception of X11 modelines; they now
generate correctly. This version also adds the program "xf86mode" which
explains an X11 modeline and a script "fb2x.rb" (written in Ruby) which
converts a framebuffer mode description to an X11 modeline.

kinds of NAT, provides strong protection (flooding, spoofing, etc),
transparent caches, and more. Its goal is to be completely abstracted and
powerful but also easy to use, audit, and understand.
Changes: The main new feature of this release is the HELPME function that
detects and produces the FireHOL configuration for the host run.
Additionally, this release introduces a new PANIC mode which is now
handled entirely by FireHOL, has better handling of the MIRROR target, has
wider support for SNMPTRAP and SYSLOG, a definition for the SOCKS service,
and better interoperability with various Linux distributions (e.g.,
Debian).

Saturday, April 5th 2003 07:14
Multimedia :: Graphics :: 3D Rendering
About: GRender is a GTK+ frontend for the A|W Maya and MentalRay for Maya
render. It handles render job queues without starting the Maya's
interface, using all the power of the workstation.
Changes: GRender can now be compiled with GTK+ 2.0 through "./configure
--enable-gtk2". The default remains GTK+ 1.2, as it has better backwards
compatibility. There aren't any GTK+ 2.0-specific features in this
release; the code is just tweaked to compile using the 2.0 version without
errors or warnings. The binary RPM is built with GTK+ 1.2.

Saturday, April 5th 2003 22:43
Internet :: Name Service (DNS)
System :: Networking
System :: Systems Administration
About: Host is a complete and powerful command-line based DNS query and
testing tool. It has many of the same basic features as other similar
tools such as nslookup and dig, but it has more extensive testing and test
automation features. Host also has a much more standard (i.e. Unix-based)
command-line user interface.
Changes: The -A "address-check" mode has been fixed so that it only
reports true problems, not mis-matched "official" hostnames since there is
no such thing in the DNS. Host no longer needs to know the system
hostname, though it will warn if it can't be found and verified and if
'-P' doesn't give an alternate preferred nameserver domain. The
undocumented --dump and --load disk cache options work (again?). Various
other minor bugs, some old, some new, have also been fixed.

[051] - Siproxd 0.3.2 (Stable)
by Thomas Ries (http://freshmeat.net/users/tries/)
Saturday, April 5th 2003 07:19
Communications :: Internet Phone
Internet :: Proxy Servers
About: Siproxd is a SIP proxy for SIP based softphones hidden behind an IP
masquerading firewall. It includes an RTP data stream proxy for incoming
audio data (outgoing RTP data should be handled by IP masquerading by the
firewall). Multiple local users/hosts can be simultaneously masqueraded.
All configuration is done via one simple ASCII text file.
Changes: All releases before 0.3.2 have a potential bug concerning the RTP
proxy. If run daemonized, incoming RTP data streams are very likely not
proxied (resulting in no audio reception). If run in the foreground (non
daemonized), the RTP proxy works fine. This issue should now be fixed in
0.3.2. Siproxd can now deal with interfaces which are "temporarily" down
(e.g., dialup PPP interfaces); there is no need to stop/start siproxd. If
built against libc5 systems, siproxd did not properly detach itself from
the tty and was terminated at logout; this has also been fixed.
