Software Development :: Build Tools
Software Development :: Testing
Software Development :: Version Control

About: Aegis is a transaction-based software configuration management
system. It provides a framework within which a team of developers may work
on many changes to a program independently, and Aegis coordinates
integrating these changes back into the master source of the program, with
as little disruption as possible. Aegis supports geographically
distributed development.

Changes: A bug has been fixed where the 'aet -reg' command. The aedist(1)
and aetar(1) commands now preserves the executable bit on files. A bug has
been fixed in tkaer(1). The aeintegratq(1) command now copes better with
changes leaving the awaiting integration state. A bug has been fixed in
the aeimport(1) command which misunderstood RCS branches. A bug has been
fixed which caused aetar(1) to hang. The aereport(1) and aesub(1) commands
now give the same email address for users.

[004] - Alzabo 0.71
  by Dave Rolsky (http://freshmeat.net/users/urthman/)
  Sunday, April 6th 2003 12:44

Database
Software Development

About: Alzabo is a two-fold program. Its first function is as a data
modelling tool. Through either a schema creation interface or a custom
Perl program, it allows a programmer to create a set of schema, table,
column, etc. objects that represent a data model. Alzabo is also capable
of reverse engineering an existing data model. Its second function is as a
RDBMS-to-object mapping system. Once you have created a schema, you can
use Alzabo classes to access its data. These classes offer a high-level
interface to common operations such as SQL SELECT, INSERT, DELETE, and
UPDATE commands.

Changes: This release adds several important features, including support
for HAVING clauses, restrictions on outer joins, and the ability to track
table and column renames across changes so that data is never lost when
updating the database schema.

  Sunday, April 6th 2003 16:32

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Graphics Conversion

About: BINS is a valid HTML 4 photo album generator with support for
internationalization, EXIF, and customizable charset encoding, including
UTF-8 (Unicode). Albums can contains other sub-albums. The appearance of
the album can be fully personalized by using template and configuration
parameters. The number and size of scaled pictures can be chosen in pixels
or percentage of the original image. Several description fields (date,
location, etc.) can be associated with the pictures, and you can add
additional description fields. A command line utility or a GTK+ GUI can be
used to set or edit description fields. BINS can use the EXIF data
structure found in some pictures to automatically fill some fields (most
notably, date and time) and to produce a page providing all information
available on the picture, as well as the DigiCam settings when the photo
was taken. All image meta-data are stored in XML files.

Changes: PNG images can now be used directly in the album, file timestamps
are now preserved when they are copied, a bins_cleanupgallery script has
been added to remove any unused files in HTML galleries, and the default
and joi templates have been updated.

[012] - CD Catalog 0.3
  by SvR Marty (http://freshmeat.net/users/svrmarty/)
  Sunday, April 6th 2003 12:31

Utilities

About: CD Catalog is a CD indexing program. If you have lots of CDs and
you want to keep track of them, you can simply run 'cdcat' to index the
current CD, or 'cdcat -f file' to find a file in the already indexed CDs
('file' can be a regexp, and after '-f', you can specify some grep
arguments, such as '-i' for case insensitive search). You can also browse
the current indexed CDs, change the device (if you have more than 1
CD-ROM drive), delete a catalogue entry, list all entries or index the
current CD under a different name than the one specified by it's label
(just altering the name is also possible).

Changes: Compression has been added.

[013] - CL-BibTeX 0.4
  by Matthias Koeppe (http://freshmeat.net/users/mkoeppe/)
  Sunday, April 6th 2003 12:39

Software Development :: Compilers
Text Processing :: Markup :: LaTeX

About: CL-BibTeX is a replacement for the BibTeX program, written in
Common Lisp. The aim is to enable the user to format bibliographic entries
using Common Lisp programs, rather than using the stack language of BibTeX
style files. A compiler that transforms BibTeX style files into
comprehensible Common Lisp programs is included.

Changes: BibTeX's output line breaking mechanism has been implemented. The
BST-to-Lisp compiler now deals with WHILE$ loops with complicated data
flow, makes some variables constant, and tries to deal with slightly
broken style files. Some bugs in the compiler and in the run-time have
been fixed. A new test suite shows that most BibTeX styles on CTAN can now
be correctly compiled to Lisp.

[014] - cvsplot 1.6.4
  by David Sitsky (http://freshmeat.net/users/sits/)
  Sunday, April 6th 2003 16:37

Software Development :: Version Control :: CVS
Utilities

About: Cvsplot is a Perl script which analyses the history of a
CVS-managed project. The script executes on a set of files, analyses their
history, and automatically generates graphs that plot lines of code and
number of files against time.

Changes: The CVS log parser is more flexible. It seems that not all CVS
logs have "state: Exp;", but sometimes have "state: Rel;" when a new file
is added. This was initially detected when running cvsplot over
Spamassassin. The -linestyle argument has been added, which generates
plots using lines rather than discrete points. For large range plots, this
can improve readability.

[020] - ElyCA 0.19 (Stable)
  by PabloPableras (http://freshmeat.net/users/PabloPableras/)
  Sunday, April 6th 2003 00:36

Security :: Cryptography

About: ElyCA is yet another implementation of a Certification Authority
and a Registration Authority. It is written in Python and uses MySQL as
its database.

Changes: In this version, the methods showcrt() and showcrl() of the certs
class were rewritten. There is a new HTML class with HTML, HEAD, and
content_type methods to make the code cleaner and let people customize
ElyCA. Some buttoms of the database section were removed because of the
new option bar in the showdb.py. There were many code cleanups. There are
new small icons (renewed, revoked, and valid), and a new option bar which
lets you select the size in bits of each RSA key. The showpass.py script
was removed, and there is a brand new search.py script, along with a new
box to select how many days a certificate will be valid.

[021] - FastParser 1.4
  by Alexandre Brillant (http://freshmeat.net/users/abrillant/)
  Sunday, April 6th 2003 05:12

Text Processing :: Markup :: XML

About: Fast Parser is a high performance Java XML parser. Benchmarks
measure it to be up to 100%+ faster than Xerces and the JDK1.4 integrated
parser. It is ideal for Web services (SOAP) and XSL. The core parsing
package (without DOM) is very compact. It features SAX Level 1 and 2
compliance, JAXP compatibility, namespace support, integration with
JXMLPad for real time parsing, modular libraries, an embedded device mode
(including minimal memory usage), optional XML Comment support, CDATA
support, the ability to include any node type with a custom NodeFactory,
and a walker for easily navigating through XML trees. Many API samples and
benchmark tests are included. JDK1.1 or later is required.

Changes: This version now has features optimization level1, gets the
attribute value with default value, searches nodes by name or attribute,
text content, and with multiple criteria (or, and, not criteria), and
includes better benchmarking, taking into account initial classes loading.

[022] - fastutil 2.60
  by Sebastiano Vigna (http://freshmeat.net/users/vigna/)
  Sunday, April 6th 2003 08:53

Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: fastutil provides type-specific Java maps and sets with a small
memory footprint, which feature much faster (2 to 10 times) access and
insertion. The classes implement their standard counterpart interfaces
(e.g., Map for maps) and can be plugged into existing code. Besides the
usual features, fastutil provides reference-based containers (which do not
use equals() to compare objects) and linked structures. Most iterators
provided by fastutil classes are bidirectional, or even implement the
standard list iterator interface.

Changes: There is a major overhaul of iterators. Now iterators must be
skippable, so previous implementation of type-specific iterator interfaces
will not work. However, new abstract classes allow you to build iterators
with ease by providing the skipping logic for free, and many useful static
methods in Iterators allow you to generate type-specific iterators
wrapping standard iterators, arrays, etc.

  Sunday, April 6th 2003 16:39

Scientific/Engineering
Software Development :: Libraries

About: The Genetic Algorithm Utility Library (GAUL) is a programming
library for evolutionary algorithms. Both steady-state and
generation-based evolution is supported, together with the island model.
GAUL supports the Darwinian, Lamarckian, and Baldwininan evolutionary
schemes. Standard mutation, crossover, and selection operators are
provided, while code hooks additionally allow custom operators. It
provides data structures and functions for handling and manipulation of
the data required for a genetic algorithm. Additional stochastic
algorithms are provided for comparison to the genetic algorithms. Much of
the functionality is also available through a simple S-Lang interface.

Changes: The current development cycle has seen lots of behind-the-scenes
code tidying and fixes. All users are encouraged to upgrade to this
version. Major new features available include a ga_fitness_mean() function
which provides additional statistics, a ga_population_get_generation()
function to access the generation number from within the callbacks used
during evolution, and a new elitism option to re-evaluate the parents'
fitnesses and maintain them in the population only if they still have a
sufficiently high fitness.

About: GNU TeXmacs is a free scientific text editor, which was inspired by
both TeX and GNU Emacs. The editor allows you to write structured
documents via a "wysiwyg" and user friendly interface. The program
implements high quality typesetting algorithms and TeX fonts. It is also
possible to use TeXmacs as an interface to computer algebra systems.
Finally, TeXmacs supports the Guile/Scheme extension language, which makes
it possible to adapt the user interface to specific needs, and even to
extend the editor.

Changes: The first reorganization of Guile has been completed. TeXmacs now
relies on the Guile module system and user preferences can be customized
in extension modules.

  Sunday, April 6th 2003 05:10

Software Development :: Libraries

About: libConfuse is a configuration file parser library written in C.
It's goal is to be easy to use and quick to integrate into existing code.
It supports sections and (lists of) values (strings, integers, floats,
booleans, or other sections), as well as some other features (such as
single/double-quoted strings, environment variable expansion, functions,
and nested include statements). It makes it very easy to add configuration
file capability to a program using a simple API.

Changes: Support for building as a DLL on windows has been added in this
version, and memory leaks have been fixed, as well as some other bugs.
List options can now also have complete default values. Functions to set
options after parsing have also been added. This release breaks
compatibility with earlier versions, as some types have been renamed for

  Sunday, April 6th 2003 08:21

Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Filesystems

About: libferris is a virtual filesystem that exposes hierarchical data of
all kinds through a common C++ interface. Access to data is performed
using C++ IOStreams and Extended Attributes (EA) can be attached to each
datum to present metadata. Ferris uses a plugin API to read various data
sources and expose them as contexts and to generate interesting EA.
Current implementations include Native (kernel disk IO with event updates
using fam), xml (mount an xml file as a filesystem), edb (mount a berkeley
database), ffilter (mount an LDAP filter string) and mbox (mount your
mailbox). EA generators include image, audio, and animation decoders.

Changes: New union, difference, intersection, and sym_difference
filesystems were added. A bug in the == opcode for ferris-filters was
fixed. Added "less than or equal" and "greater than or equal" operators
were added for floating point comparison in ferris-filters. Filtered
filesystems now expose their ferris-filter as the "filter" ea. An
interface to full text queries was added, based on
fulltextquery://boolean/ and fulltextquery://ranked/ directories.

[050] - Linux Bandwidth Arbitrator 3.0
  by astormchaser (http://freshmeat.net/users/astormchaser/)
  Sunday, April 6th 2003 22:36

About: Linux Bandwidth Arbitrator allows beginning-to-advanced network
administrators to control bandwidth. It is designed to be turnkey for any
network in its default configuration; it may not be optimal in the way it
filters for every situation, but you don't have to know anything to get
some immediate benefit. It offers a unique method of controlling data
coming into your network by throttling the "client" requests from your
network which are causing the data to come in in the first place.

Changes: This release has revamped the host priority feature. The priority
feature now allows a network administrator to guarantee bandwidth on busy
network for a particular host (prior to this release it priority was not
guaranteed). It is also the first "officially" stable release that works
co-resident with the Linux Firewall features. It also contains a couple of
minor performance improvements to further speed up user response times on
a busy network.

problems when ranges were across the map border. It is now possible to
copy readonly text areas to other applications. A new ltest command has
been added that behaves just like the test command but for land units.
Finally, a "usage" message is displayed when the user enters a malformed
command rather than a cryptic error message.
