Communications :: Chat
Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: Ace Operator is an instant messaging call-center solution that can
be accessed from Web pages. Using this product, online service providers
can easily add a "live help" button to any or all of their Web pages,
which gives online customers access to company representatives and allows
them to exchange information in real-time.

Changes: This stable version fixes a number of bugs that were discovered
in version 1.1.0b. It also provides feature enhancements and improvements
in the documentation. A number of important features have been added,
including a post-installation wizard, white board, e-mail capability,
support for the English, French, German, and Spanish languages, offline
messaging, and more. The new version is easier to install and configure,

About: ADODB is a set of advanced PHP database abtraction classes. It
supports MySQL, PostgreSQL, Interbase/Firebird, Informix, Sybase SQL
Anywhere, Oracle, MS SQL 7, Sybase, DB2, FrontBase, Foxpro, Access, ADO,
and generic ODBC. A metatype system is built in, making it possible to
figure out that types such as CHAR, TEXT, and STRING are equivalent in
different databases. It also features an SQL to HTML popup menu and SQL to
HTML table support. It has code to support record paging and blob/clob
support.

Changes: The three biggest new features are smart transactions, virtual
error codes, and session expiry notifications.

[003] - Agata Report 5.0 beta 001 (Stable)
  by Pablo DallOglio (http://freshmeat.net/users/pablodalloglio/)
  Monday, April 7th 2003 08:02

Database :: Front-Ends

About: Agata Report is a database reporting tool and EIS tool (graph
generation), like Crystal Reports. It is written in PHP-GTK, and allows
you to edit and get SQL results from several databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL,
Oracle, DB2, MsSql, Informix, InterBase, Sybase, and Frontbase). It
connects to a database, lists its tables and fields, and allows you to
link among tables, make constraints and orders, apply functions, and make
queries. The result is exported to PostScript, plain text, HTML, or
spreadsheet (CSV) format. Its interface has English, Portuguese, Italian,
French, German, and Swedish support. There is a Merge tool that allows you
to write any document and insert variables from the database, a Dia tool
that allows you to generate ER diagrams, and a label tool that allows you
to generate address labels. You can also create multi-level reports, with
subtotals by group, and a grand total, besides run-time parameters.

Changes: Reports can now be exported as HTML. A better configuration tool
was added, allowing you to configure HTML colors and fonts and application
directories. Total parameter support was added (including EIS). Reports
may now be exported as CSV. Many enhancements were made to the
Confirmation Dialogs. Improvements were made in the PostScript exporting
feature (with Groups).

  by Schneelocke (http://freshmeat.net/users/schneelocke/)
  Monday, April 7th 2003 09:05

Communications :: Email :: Filters
Text Processing :: Filters

About: Bogofilter is a Bayesian spam filter. In its normal mode of
operation, it takes an email message or other text on standard input, does
a statistical check against lists of "good" and "bad" words, and returns a
status code indicating whether or not the message is spam. Bogofilter is
designed with fast algorithms (including Berkeley DB system), coded
directly in C, and tuned for speed, so it can be used for production by
sites that process a lot of mail.

Changes: This release fixes a database lock contention issue discovered on
Mac OS X, revises bogoutil's command line, and fixes AIX building using
the xlc compiler.

About: Botan is a library of cryptographic algorithms written in C++. It
includes a wide selection of block and stream ciphers, public key
algorithms, hash functions, and message authentication codes. It has an
easy-to-use filter interface and supports many common industry standards,
including X.509v3.

Changes: This release adds support for reading and creating PKCS #10
certificate requests. A new function for creating self-signed X.509v3
certificates was also added. The search interface for X509_Store is now
much more flexible. X509_CA's interface has changed to sign PKCS #10
requests, instead of the non-standard method used previously.

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Ripping
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Writing
System :: Archiving

About: cdrtools (formerly cdrecord) creates home-burned CDs with a
CDR/CDRW recorder. It works as a burn engine for several applications. It
supports CD recorders from many different vendors; all SCSI-3/mmc- and
ATAPI/mmc-compliant drives should also work. Supported features include
IDE/ATAPI, parallel port, and SCSI drives, audio CDs, data CDs, and mixed
CDs, full multi-session support, CDRWs (rewritable), TAO, DAO, RAW, and
human-readable error messages. cdrtools includes remote SCSI support and
can access local or remote CD writers.

Changes: All publicly known Plextor drive features are now supported
(PowerRec, SpeedRead, SingleSession, Hide-CDR, Read Burn-Proof counter)
although the corresponding SCSI commands had to be guessed. A new option
-setdropts was added to allow cdrecord to set driver-specific options and
exit. This version is now starting to support SCSI reset on SCO-UnixWare,
fixes the command line parser for driveropts= parameters, includes a new
option -lock, and supports DAO for the CW-7501. cdda2wav now works again
with broken CD extra disks. mkisofs is now using char translation for
8-bit characters that are used with -iso-level 4 (ISO-9660:1999).

[035] - Java Serialization to XML 2 0.8.1
  by Brendan Macmillan (http://freshmeat.net/users/yow/)
  Monday, April 7th 2003 03:18

Communications
Database
Database :: Front-Ends

About: Java Serialization to XML 2 allows you to convert Java objects into
streams of XML and back again. Using it is as easy as replacing
"ObjectOutputStream" with "JSX.ObjectWriter" to convert objects to XML,
and replacing "ObjectInputStream" with "JSX.ObjectReader" to convert XML
into objects. JSX subclasses Java's serialization classes, so it can be
used in their place with the same simple power. This allows you to check
and correct your distributed, persisted, and logged object data, and
process it with XSLT, SAX, and DOM. JSX handles all objects, complex
object graphs, new classes, old classes, and evolving classes. JSX even
handles classes that do not implement the "Serializable" interface.

Changes: Externalizable now works with classes whose no-arg constructor is
not public. JSX now defaults sensibly when the thread's contextClassLoader
is null, and is now able to serialize/deserialize objects of class Object
(Java's standard serialization cannot do this).

[043] - Metalog 0.7
  by j (http://freshmeat.net/users/frankdenis/)
  Monday, April 7th 2003 11:18

About: Metalog is a modern replacement for syslogd and klogd. The logged
messages can be dispatched according to their facility, urgency, program
name, and/or Perl-compatible regular expressions. Log files can be
automatically rotated when they exceed a certain size or age. External
shell scripts (e.g., mail) can be launched when specific patterns are
found. Metalog is easier to configure than syslogd and syslog-ng, accepts
an unlimited number of rules, and has (switchable) memory bufferization
for maximal performance.

Changes: Logging is now synchronous by default, and duplicate messages are
only logged once. Negative regexps were implemented, and programs can also
be matched against regexps. The maximum urgency can now be specified for
each block, and a PID file is now created. Finally, the entire code base
has been cleaned up.

[063] - RoadMap 1.0rc1
  by Pascal Martin (http://freshmeat.net/users/pascalmartin/)
  Monday, April 7th 2003 03:10

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers

About: RoadMap is a GIS program for Linux that displays street maps. The
maps are provided by the US Census Bureau, and thus only cover the US.
Specific areas are displayed by selecting a street address (street number,
street name, city, and state). It interfaces with gpsd to track a GPS
position, and has been designed to be usable on both a desktop or laptop
computer, or on a PDA.

Changes: This version adds GTK 2.0 and Qt user interfaces, and detects and
identifies the street block that best matches the GPS position, and
displays its name when the street changes. The street name display's text
is now user configurable. Flite (Festival lite) is now used to read out
street name displays using speech synthesis. The text and the speech
synthesis application to be used are user configurable.

[064] - RPL/2 4.00pre6f (Development)
  by JKB (http://freshmeat.net/users/jkb/)
  Monday, April 7th 2003 05:34

Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
Software Development :: Interpreters

About: RPL/2 (Reverse Polish Lisp/2) is a langage derived from the RPL
made by Hewlett-Packard for its HP-28S. It has some extensions
(preprocessor, compilated libraries, new functions), a TeX output, and can
draw graphics.

Changes: A major bug in the evaluation() subroutine was fixed. It occurs
with the DRAW intrinsic when the equation cannot be evaluated (for
example, 'SIN(X)/X' in 0). Beware that the same bug remains in the INT
intrinsic. LAST has been disabled in the DRAW intrinsic. A major bug in
the DRAW intrinsic was fixed. When an error occurs in the evaluation of an
equation, the system stack is returned corrupted to the sequencer. The
same bug has been fixed in FOR and START. In these cases the bug only
occurs when the limits of a loop are not integer or real.

  Monday, April 7th 2003 16:28

Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: SMTP client class is a class that connects to a SMTP mail server to
send messages. It can relay message delivery to a defined SMTP server or
directly deliver messages to a recipient's SMTP server, allows a
programmer defined server address, server port, connection timeout, origin
host address, user/realm/password authentication credentials, setting
sender and recipient address as a separate step from the sending the
headers and the body of the message, returns message delivery success,
detects extensions supported by the SMTP server, and takes advantage of
the SMTP PIPELINING extension to buffer SMTP commands, providing much
faster queueing of messages when delivering to a large number of
recipients (bulk mail).
