[009] - Cream for Vim 0.21
  by digitect (http://freshmeat.net/users/digitect/)
  Thursday, April 10th 2003 07:05

Text Editors
Text Processing :: Markup :: HTML

About: Cream is a configuration of the famous Vim text editor that makes
it easier to use, like an Apple- or Windows-style text editor. It uses
Vim's own extensibility to improve menus, keyboard shortcuts, and editing
behavior. Cream seamlessly maintains Vim's insertmode to access all the
power of the original Vim plus many custom Cream extensions.

Changes: This minor release features a new menu item to insert the line
numbers of a selection with an optional startup value, the Chocolate
Liquor color scheme, digraph insert and listing menu items, a dedicated
key map for exiting, syntax highlighting for email, and an option for last
open file restoration. A powerful function prototype pop up (which
requires ctags) was also added. This allows you to see the prototype of a
function without having to open the file where it is defined. Many other
tweaks, improvements, and bug fixes were also made.

About: The IP Masquerade HOWTO is the document that contains instructions
on understanding, configuring, and troubleshooting NAT or Network Address
Translation for Linux. It covers topics such as IPTABLES, PORTFW,
IPCHAINS, IPFWADM, stronger packet firewalls, multiple network segments,

FAQ and troubleshooting section.

Changes: Additional /proc entry testing was added to help users determine
if their kernel is MASQ-ready. An EXTIP variable was added the 2.4.x
PORTFW example, as several people were trying to use this with the BASIC
ruleset and not the STRONGER ruleset. Mandrake and Gentoo were added to
the MASQ compatibility list, and additional checking was added to the
kernel compilation section to determine if your kernel supports IPMASQ via

[032] - KDE 3.1.1a
  by binner (http://freshmeat.net/users/stbinner/)
  Thursday, April 10th 2003 05:59

About: KDE is a powerful graphical desktop environment for Unix
workstations. It combines ease of use, contemporary functionality and
outstanding graphical design with the technological superiority of the
Unix operating system. KDE is a completely new desktop, incorporating a
large suite of applications for Unix workstations. While KDE includes a
window manager, file manager, panel, control center and many other
components that one would expect to be part of a contemporary desktop
environment, the true strength of this exceptional environment lies in the
interoperability of its components.

Changes: This is a security release which fixes a PS/PDF file handling
vulnerability. Only the kdelibs, kdebase, and kdegraphics modules are
included in this update. In addition, the usual stable branch bug fixes
were made, such as a fix for the famous "tab open delay" bug.

anything on a hard disk due to on-the-fly decompression.

Changes: mousedev is now used for all USB mice in an attempt to fix some
reported problems. Most of the GNOME 1 stuff was deleted because of space
limits. The following packages will be omitted until a GNOME2 version
exists and fits: evolution, libguppi16, gcdmaster, gnome-games, and kino.
Flash-Installer was added. Support for ALSA drivers was added, but it is

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Software Development :: Quality Assurance
Software Development :: Testing

About: Solex is a Web application testing tool built as a plug-in for the
Eclipse IDE. Based on a built- in Web proxy and a concept of extraction,
replacement, and assertion rules, Solex provides functions to record a
client session, adjust it according to various parameters and replay it.
This is typically done in order to ensure the non-regression of a Web
application's behavior.

Changes: This release requires Eclipse 2.1 and contains major enhancements
and bugfixes. It has better compliance with HTTP 1.1, correction of
various issues with the proxy, assertion against a variable, assertions
test the presence or absence of value, request numbering, Find/Replace

[064] - Source-Navigator 5.1.3
  by Mo (http://freshmeat.net/users/momomoofthejungle/)
  Thursday, April 10th 2003 13:59

Text Editors :: Integrated Development Environments (IDE)

About: Source-Navigator is a source code analysis tool. With it, you can
edit your source code, display relationships between classes and functions
and members, and display call trees. You can also build your projects,
either with your own makefile, or by using Source-Navigator's build system
to automatically generate a makefile. It works with the Insight GUI
interface for GDB, and supports C, C++, Java, Tcl, [incr Tcl], FORTRAN,
and COBOL, and provides an SDK so that you can write your own parsers.

Changes: Batch mode has been fixed so that the project file is not
deleted. Keyboard menu shortcuts via the Alt key, symbol browser sorting
after a save, tab processing issues in the editor, the build window when
used with Cygwin, a problem with dialog flashing on screen twice, the icon
for private members in the class browser, and processing of VC++ compiler
errors in the build tool have all been fixed. File mod status is removed
after all changes are undone. Build notes have been updated to address a
bug in Cygwin grep. It will use insight as a debugger name instead of gdb,
and center dialogs properly.

  Thursday, April 10th 2003 10:34

Office/Business
Office/Business :: Groupware

About: sqlDESKTOP is a computerized manual filing system arranged just
like an ordinary office with pictures of real cabinets and real folders.
You can arrange by project, by department or whatever makes sense to you.
sqlDESKTOP doesn't tell you how to organize, it lets you do things your
own way. Documents are easy to find because you don't have to remember the
exact name of the document or where you put it. Instead, you can visually
locate what you are looking for in a familiar office environment and click
on it.

Changes: A new installer was created to improve support for Suse 8.1 and
64-bit Redhat. An exception error which occurred when the first user is
not root was fixed. Preference setting is now done on a per-user basis
instead of per-computer. Write permission on the install directory
(/opt/sqldesktop) is no longer required to run the program. One desktop
database is now allowed per user, and is stored in user's home directory
instead of in the install directory.

  Thursday, April 10th 2003 21:56

Internet
Utilities

About: StormSiren is a personal severe weather monitoring tool that
communicates information from National Weather Service issued bulletins on
potential and imminent hazardous weather. When such bulletins are
detected, the program sends a concise summary of the alert to one or more
devices, including pagers, SMS-capable wireless phones, or e-mail
accounts. The summaries are designed to fit within a 160 character display
and contain the type of hazard, the affected counties and cities defined
by the user, and the issue and expiration times of the bulletin.

Changes: This version fixes a notification bug where only one device per
type (SMS, email) was notified. This was caused by sending a string of
addresses to smtplib's sendmail function rather than a tuple. It also
disables state file purging due to incorrect purging for network timeouts
that returned no alarm condition.

  by Alexandre P. Nunes (http://freshmeat.net/users/polesapart/)
  Thursday, April 10th 2003 02:40

About: VMWare allows you to run 'virtual machines' inside Linux. It is not
an emulator. It provides a virtual computer within Linux which can boot
whichever OS you decide to put on the filesystem image that is used as a
harddrive. It will run DOS 6.22, Win 3.1, Win95, Win98, WinNT 4, Windows
2000, Linux, and more. The only main requirement is a P-II 266 or better,
along with lots of RAM (64M minimum, 128M recommended).

Changes: The overall performance of virtual hardware was improved, in
particular video and sound. The ability to take point-in-time snapshots of
VM states was added, along with drag and drop between the guest and host

Communications
System :: Networking
System :: Operating System

About: WANPIPE S-series is a family of intelligent multi-protocol WAN and
ADSL adapters that support data transfer rates up to 8Mbps. All WAN
protocols supported by WANPIPE are implemented in firmware and run on the
card. An advantage of an intelligent adapter is that it offloads the
system CPU and improves stability. By adding a Sangoma WAN/ADSL component
to the Linux kernel, one can create a powerful multi-T1/ADSL
router/firewall with proven reliability of Linux. Sangoma S-series cards
support an optional on board T1/E1 CSU/DSU that eliminates all external
components of a traditional routing solution: i.e. T1/E1 line can be
directly connected to the card. WANPIPE supports the following protocols,
ATM, ADSL, Frame Relay, PPP, MULTILINK PPP, CHDLC, X25(API), BitStreaming
(API), BiSync(API), and SDLC(API). Furthermore, WANPIPE supports custom
API development such as: Credit card verification, Voice-over IP,
Satellite Comm. All device drivers are part of the standard Linux Kernel
distribution.

Changes: A new ATM driver for S514(T1/E1) cards (PHY-layer, AAL5, OAM, and
unlimited VPI/VCI PVCs), major bug fixes in the ADSL driver,
multi-protocol driver support (HDLC/PPP/CHDLC), multi-protocol API
support, (X25/LAPB and DSP), and updates to the Wanpipe documentation and
