Friday, April 11th 2003 12:43
Communications :: Email :: Filters
Text Processing :: Filters
About: Bogofilter is a Bayesian spam filter. In its normal mode of
operation, it takes an email message or other text on standard input, does
a statistical check against lists of "good" and "bad" words, and returns a
status code indicating whether or not the message is spam. Bogofilter is
designed with fast algorithms (including Berkeley DB system), coded
directly in C, and tuned for speed, so it can be used for production by
sites that process a lot of mail.
Changes: Changes in this version include additional portability fixes,
minor enhancements to the "-m" option to enhance testing of different
parameter values, and some minor documentation corrections.

[007] - cgdb 0.3.0
by Robert Rossi (http://freshmeat.net/users/bobbybrasko/)
Friday, April 11th 2003 12:50
Software Development :: Debuggers
About: cgdb is a lightweight, but fully functional curses frontend to gdb.
The goal of cgdb is to be lightweight and responsive, not encumbered with
unnecessary features. The interface retains the familiar GDB text-based
interface with 100% of the original functionality. The interfaces also
provide additional features, such as a source code window, shortcut keys,
visual setting of breakpoints, regex searching capabilities, and more.
Changes: This release adds several bugfixes to enhance readline support;
all keystroke commands, including reverse history search, now work.
Breakpoint lines are now highlighted in all cases. Full Cygwin support is
now available (previous releases had terminal/keyboard problems). This is
the most stable release yet.

Software Development :: Debuggers
About: CMUCL is a free, high performance implementation of the Common Lisp
programming language which runs on most major Unix platforms. It mainly
conforms to the ANSI Common Lisp standard. CMUCL provides a sophisticated
native code compiler; a powerful foreign function interface; an
implementation of CLOS; the Common Lisp Object System; which includes
multimethods and a metaobject protocol; a source-level debugger and code
profiler; and an Emacs-like editor implemented in Common Lisp. CMUCL is
maintained by a team of volunteers collaborating over the Internet, and is
in the public domain.
Changes: This release adds a Karatsuba multiplier to give faster
multiplication for big bignums, better support for loading foreign
libraries, a cross-referencing facility for the compiler, support for
generalized function names, access to the hardware cycle counters on
Pentium and UltraSPARC processors, largefile support on Linux, significant
improvements to the CLOS implementation, and very numerous ANSI compliance
fixes and bugfixes. The new platforms now supported are OpenBSD/x86,
Linux/Alpha, and IRIX/MIPS. Experimental support for native 64-bit
integers is available on UltraSPARC.

Friday, April 11th 2003 14:14
Software Development :: Version Control
Software Development :: Version Control :: CVS
About: CVSps is a program for generating 'patchset' information from a CVS
repository. A patchset in this case is defined as a set of changes made to
a collection of files, and all committed at the same time (using a single
'cvs commit' command). This information is valuable to seeing the big
picture of the evolution of a cvs project. CVSps allows you to see history
of committed patchsets, restrict by author, date range, files affected,
branches affected. CVSps can generate a diff of a given patchset.
Changes: All known bugs have been fixed. This release fixes a bug
retrieving diffs from sourcforge cvs. The behavior when specifying two -r
options was modified to be more intuitive.

About: Eternal Lands is a multiplatform (Windows/Linux) 3D graphical
online world that will evolve into a fully-featured MMORPG. It requires a
hardware-accelerated video card that supports at least OpenGL 1.2.
Changes: A lot of changes were made in the rendering engine (now the limit
is not placed on the CPU anymore, not even on high poly count areas). This
gives a speed boost from 0% (in some areas) up to 1000% in some other
areas (depending on the video card). The current mode now switches back to
walk after using an object (e.g., entering a house). Some bugs on various
maps were fixed. It is now mandatory to click on doors instead of anywhere
in the building to get out of that room/building. A few objects are
included that were accidentally missing on the last update.

[028] - Java Serialization to XML 2 0.8.3
by Brendan Macmillan (http://freshmeat.net/users/yow/)
Friday, April 11th 2003 04:40
Communications
Database
Database :: Front-Ends
About: Java Serialization to XML 2 allows you to convert Java objects into
streams of XML and back again. Using it is as easy as replacing
"ObjectOutputStream" with "JSX.ObjectWriter" to convert objects to XML,
and replacing "ObjectInputStream" with "JSX.ObjectReader" to convert XML
into objects. JSX subclasses Java's serialization classes, so it can be
used in their place with the same simple power. This allows you to check
and correct your distributed, persisted, and logged object data, and
process it with XSLT, SAX, and DOM. JSX handles all objects, complex
object graphs, new classes, old classes, and evolving classes. JSX even
handles classes that do not implement the "Serializable" interface.
Changes: XML comments, PIs, and choice of " or ' for attribute value
delimiters are now parsed correctly, and debug information for invalid XML

Communications :: File Sharing
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search
Software Development :: Libraries
About: libextractor is a library used to extract meta-data from files of
arbitrary type. It is designed to use helper-libraries to perform the
actual extraction, and to be trivially extendable by linking against
external extractors for additional file types. The goal is to provide
developers of file-sharing networks or WWW-indexing bots with a universal
library to obtain simple keywords to match against queries. libextractor
contains a shell-command "extract" that, similar to the well-known "file"
command, can extract meta-data from a file an print the results to stdout.
Currently, it supports the formats HTML, PDF, PS, MP3, OGG, JPEG, GIF,
PNG, RPM, ZIP, Real, QT and ASF. Also, various additional MIME types are
detected.
Changes: This release has new plugins for ASF and QT. The dependecy on
rpm-devel has been removed. The RPM library code required is now
integrated in the plugin. Some issues with dynamic libraries have been
fixed.

About: SYSLINUX is a boot loader for the Linux operating system which
operates off of MS-DOS floppies. It is intended to simplify first-time
installation of Linux, rescue disks, and other uses for boot floppies. A
SYSLINUX floppy can be manipulated using standard MS-DOS (or any other OS

requires only a ~ 9K DOS program or ~ 18K Linux program to create it in
the first place. It also includes PXELINUX, a program to boot off a
network server using a boot PROM compatible with the Intel PXE
(Pre-Execution Environment) specification, ISOLINUX, a program to boot off
ISO 9660 CD-ROMs in native mode, and MEMDISK, a tool to boot legacy
operating systems (e.g. DOS) using a Linux boot loader regardless of
medium.

[079] - ZoneMinder 0.9.10
by Philip Coombes (http://freshmeat.net/users/pcoombes/)
Friday, April 11th 2003 04:44
Multimedia :: Video
Multimedia :: Video :: Capture
Multimedia :: Video :: Display
About: ZoneMinder is a suite of applications intended for use in video
camera security applications, including theft prevention and child or
family member monitoring. It supports capture, analysis, recording, and
monitoring of video data coming from one or more cameras attached to a
Linux system. It also features a user-friendly Web interface which allows
viewing, archival, review, and deletion of images and movies captured by
the cameras. The image analysis system is highly configurable, permitting
retention of specific events, while eliminating false positives.
ZoneMinder supports both directly connected and network cameras and is
built around the definition of a set of individual 'zones' of varying
sensitivity and functionality for each camera. This allows the elimination
of regions which should be ignored or the definition of areas which will
alarm if various thresholds are exceeded in conjunction with other zones.
All management, control, and other functions are supported through the Web
interface.
Changes: This release adds a number of new features to ZoneMinder. The
most significant among these is support for network cameras such as the
Axis or D-Link types, however you can now monitor any kind of image
available via a regular HTTP URL. Other new features are additional views
allowing you to view streams from all your cameras at once, and a method
of limiting the capture rate to enable better management of bandwidth and
CPU. As well as all that there are multiple bugfixes and small
enhancements.
