[001] - Alfandega Firewall 2.2 (Stable)
by Christian Tosta (http://freshmeat.net/users/tosta/)
Sunday, April 13th 2003 01:04
Internet
Security
Software Development :: Libraries :: Perl Modules
About: Alfandega is a strong and modular iptables firewall. It provides
NAT, port-forwarding, spoofing list, blacklist of crackers and spywares
sites, protection for TCP/UDP scans, DOS/DDOS and Smurf attacks, TCP
tuning, DHCP/PPP support, and much more.
Changes: This version adds a configuration tool, moves chains.conf,
modules.conf, and run-scripts.conf, concatenates acl.conf and
interfaces.conf with alfandega.conf, renames ACLs as NVLs (because of a
confusion with filesystem ACLs), and includes some changes to the addons
engine.

Sunday, April 13th 2003 17:34
System :: Installation/Setup
System :: Software Distribution
About: The superb Debian package installer APT has since some time become
available for RPM-based distributions. However, to install RPM packages
with apt, an apt repository is needed. apt4rpm creates the apt repository
from an RPM repository. The rpm repository can be located locally or
remotely. Once the apt repository has been created with apt4rpm, the apt
tools can be used to install RPMs.
Changes: A progress message redirected to an incorrect output stream has
been fixed. Cache conversion code has been removed. The most recent list
algorithm has been improved. Bootstrap has been updated to work with the
latest version of automake. There are some other small improvements.

them, etc. BEAST provides the necessary GUI to make actual use of BSE.
Synthesis filters (BseSources) are implemented in shared library modules,
and get loaded on demand.
Changes: Support for LADSPA plugins was added. Synthesis network router
display was improved. Support for dsp[0-3] and midi[0-3] devices was
added. Memory leaks during playback were fixed. Many fixes in the
documentation area were done.

[008] - bogofilter 0.11.2 (Stable)
by Schneelocke (http://freshmeat.net/users/schneelocke/)
Sunday, April 13th 2003 17:43
Communications :: Email :: Filters
Text Processing :: Filters
About: Bogofilter is a Bayesian spam filter. In its normal mode of
operation, it takes an email message or other text on standard input, does
a statistical check against lists of "good" and "bad" words, and returns a
status code indicating whether or not the message is spam. Bogofilter is
designed with fast algorithms (including Berkeley DB system), coded
directly in C, and tuned for speed, so it can be used for production by
sites that process a lot of mail.
Changes: A variety of defects (mostly minor) have been corrected. Some new
options have been added. This release builds and works on a wider variety
of platforms: OS/2, AIX, and OS X in particular. There are additional
scripts in the config directory and additional configuration files for
maildrop and procmail. The documentation has been corrected, updated, and
expanded.

[035] - Pam_mount 0.5.13
by W. Michael Petullo (http://freshmeat.net/users/flyn/)
Sunday, April 13th 2003 01:02
System :: Networking
About: The pam_mount module allows users to have NCP (Netware), SMB
(Windows/Samba), or loopback-encrypted volumes mounted upon login, using
the same passwords they typed to log in. A remote volume can even be used
as a user's $HOME. Volumes mounted this way are automatically unmounted on
logout.
Changes: This version fixes an installation flaw that resulted in a
potential local exploit. It now builds on Linux and OpenBSD. The Pmhelper
code is no longer built as a separate binary. Initial support was added
for CIFS. pam_mount now unmounts volumes in the opposite order that it
mounts them to facilitate nested mounts.

by Bart Somers (http://freshmeat.net/users/zon4jou/)
Sunday, April 13th 2003 01:05

System :: Monitoring
About: Process Change Detection System is a script to monitor changes in
processes--not to monitor if your Web server is still running, but to see
if there are new programs running. When debugging a honeypot logging, you
often see that there's an extra inetd running, to open up a backdoor port.
Or, less dramatically, people login to a system and "forget" to logout.
Changes: This version adds logging to syslog, so that it's possible to log
to mail, syslog, or both.

Sunday, April 13th 2003 17:36
Multimedia :: Video
About: QuickRip is a basic DVD ripper for GNU/Linux written in Python and
PyQt. It lacks options to fine-tune how you want to rip your DVD, but it
makes ripping quick and easy, and so is ideal for those who aren't
bothered about framerates, clipping, and other unecessary options. It uses
mplayer and transcode to retrieve DVD info and rip the tracks.
Changes: A CLI (command line interface) mode is now included, featuring an
easy-to-use menu system to set all the usual ripping settings, and
progress bars that automatically size for the width of your command line.
You can't, yet, stop and start the process easily. A new logo is included,
based upon the listening gnu by the Nevrax Design Team. A helpful help
message is printed if run with the standard "--help" argument.
