[001] - absence 1.3
  by Rob Urban (http://freshmeat.net/users/roburban/)
  Monday, April 14th 2003 16:16

Communications
Office/Business
Office/Business :: Groupware

About: absence is a calendar tool for keeping track of people (but could
be adapted for any other object) on a daily basis. It is meant to replace
that ubiquitous whiteboard in the office of the boss. You know the one,
where someone has used a permanent magic marker to mark a matrix, and
vacations/training/etc. are marked with non-permanent markers as blocks.
absence is a CGI system, and has a resolution of one day. It is not
intended to be used for keeping appointments or any other activity that
requires a finer resolution. It generates an image for each month to be
displayed using the GD library, and it can be configured to produce PNG or
GIF (or even JPEG).

  by Hilko Bengen (http://freshmeat.net/users/bengen/)
  Monday, April 14th 2003 10:39

Communications :: Email :: Filters

About: AMaViS-ng is a modular rewrite of amavisd and amavis-perl. It scans
email for malicious code inside attachments and archive files, stopping
delivery if malicious code is found. It supports integration of several
third-party virus scanners and integrates nicely into several MTA setups.
Unlike amavis-perl and amavisd, there is no need for build-time
configuration.

Changes: A severe bug in command line handling in the Postfix module was
fixed.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Interpreters

About: Apache::ASP provides an Active Server Pages port to the Apache Web
Server with Perl as the host scripting language. Apache::ASP allows a
developer to create dynamic Web applications with session management and
embedded Perl code. There are also many powerful extensions, including XML
taglibs, XSLT rendering, and new events not originally part of the ASP
API.

Changes: A major bug has been fixed where Session_OnEnd event could be
called twice for an expired Session. Minor enhancements include making
XMLSubs tag names work with dashes in them, scripts with named subroutines
in them are more newbie friendly with a recompilation strategy to avoid
closure issues, and better file upload data handling.

[010] - bash programmable completion 20030414 (Stable)
  by Ian Macdonald (http://freshmeat.net/users/ianmacd/)
  Monday, April 14th 2003 04:23

System :: Shells
System :: Systems Administration
Utilities

About: Since v2.04, bash has allowed you to intelligently program and
extend its standard completion behavior to achieve complex command lines
with just a few keystrokes. Imagine typing ssh [Tab] and being able to
complete on hosts from your ~/.ssh/known_hosts files. Or typing man 3 str
[Tab] and getting a list of all string handling functions in the UNIX
manual. mount system: [Tab] would complete on all exported file-systems
from the host called system, while make [Tab] would complete on all
targets in Makefile. This project was conceived to produce programmable
completion routines for the most common Linux/UNIX commands, reducing the
amount of typing sysadmins and programmers need to do on a daily basis.

Changes: Completion for iconv(1) has been added, along with completion for
KDE's dcop. apt-cache now completes on the 'showsrc' argument, and an
unset variable warning in CVS completion was quelled.

  by Dumitrascu Vasile (http://freshmeat.net/users/va511e/)
  Monday, April 14th 2003 14:51

About: Biblos is a powerful indexing tool that can manage your CD/mp3
collection as well as local directories. It records full information
about each file on the specified media and has a searching tool that can
help you find specific files. It will eventually be able to compare
database-stored directories with on- disk directories and pin-point the
differences, thus helping you to better manage your mp3 collection or
see what changes have been made in your system.

Changes: This release adds collections support, a short HTML manual, and
fixes for some memory allocation issues.

About: The Big Faceless PDF Library is a Java class library for creating
PDF documents. The Extended Edition offers the ability to create and edit
AcroForms, PDF's answer to the HTML form. Like HTML forms, PDF forms can
contain text boxes, radio buttons, and can call JavaScript functions. The
Extended Edition also includes a PDF reader for importing and editing,
along with FDF support and verification for Digital Signatures. Both
variations offer full Unicode support, encryption, embedded TrueType and
Type1 fonts, barcodes, hyperlinks, spot and calibrated color. Advanced
text layout engine enables complex HTML styles. It is small, fast, easy to
use, and 100% pure Java.

Changes: Submitting an entire PDF as a form action now works. A problem
with broken colorspace, which occurred very rarely under Solaris 2.8, was
fixed. The mistaken assumption that CropBox/MediaBox is a direct object
was fixed.

  Monday, April 14th 2003 01:27

Text Processing :: Markup :: LaTeX

About: CCT is a Chinese Language Extention to TeX that was developed by
the Academy of Sciences in Beijing.

Changes: This version checks for \begin{verbatim}- \end{verbatim},
\begin{comment}- \end{comment}, \verb commands, doesn't insert spaces or
'~' in verbatim modes, adds an '-h' option to display help message, a
'-t' option to force inserting '~' instead of space, and a '-v' (verbose)
option, drops possible arguments ('{...}', '[...]') following a TeX
command before testing the command, adds a list of TRANSPARENT tokens,
scales Chinese character height (cksum) by ssize/dsize to allow loading
ccfnt? fonts not at its design size, adds a definition for \zihaoAny,

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Ripping
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Writing
System :: Archiving

About: cdrtools (formerly cdrecord) creates home-burned CDs with a
CDR/CDRW recorder. It works as a burn engine for several applications. It
supports CD recorders from many different vendors; all SCSI-3/mmc- and
ATAPI/mmc-compliant drives should also work. Supported features include
IDE/ATAPI, parallel port, and SCSI drives, audio CDs, data CDs, and mixed
CDs, full multi-session support, CDRWs (rewritable), TAO, DAO, RAW, and
human-readable error messages. cdrtools includes remote SCSI support and
can access local or remote CD writers.

Changes: This version adds SAO/DAO support for the Sony CDU- 92x/94x
series, and support to print extended PowerRec Speed information for
Plextor drives. There is better behavior for -load with Caddy drives, and
the first stage in supporting XA attributes in mkisofs. Mkisofs now
supports files >= 2 GB.

  by Michael Welles (http://freshmeat.net/users/stinky/)
  Monday, April 14th 2003 16:16

System :: Archiving
System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Archiving :: Mirroring

About: changedfiles is a framework for filesystem replication, security
monitoring, and/or automatic file transformations--essentially any
application where you'd poll files or directories and either do something
to them or send them somewhere else (or both). The difference is, the
kernel tells you when they change, instead of you having to poll. Besides
which, it's an easy real time FTP push mirror to one or multiple sites.
The changedfiles system consists of two parts: a kernel module (works with
Linux kernel version 2.4) which reports to a device whenever a file on the
filesystem changes, and a daemon which runs in user space and can be
configured to do almost any action when a change to a file matching the
one of the patterns it looks for is reported. The kernel module is SMP
safe and has been tested on Intel, PowerPC, and Alpha.

Changes: A fix for a bad bug that was causing the daemon to leak
filehandles when FTP operations failed.

About: Devlabel is a program which dynamically creates symbolic links to
disk/partition names. It uses the disk's and/or partition's unique
identifiers to keep the symlink pointed to the correct location even if
the underlying partition's name has changed. So, regardless of whether
/dev/sdb6 becomes /dev/sdc6, devlabel figures this all out and points the
symlink to the correct data.

Changes: New --uid, --gid, and --perms options were added, which ensures
that the correct ownership and permissions are applied to the underlying
disk name if your disk names shuffle.

About: DSPAM is an anti-spam project with the purpose of creating an agent
capable of intelligently filtering unsolicited commercial email on both a
per-user and community scale. It is designed to intelligently learn the

[026] - Fast Intelligent Software RAID1 2.14
  by Peter T. Breuer (http://freshmeat.net/users/ptb/)
  Monday, April 14th 2003 10:18

About: This is a Linux kernel driver that replaces the kernel's own
software RAID1 (i.e. mirroring) driver. This driver tracks missed mirror
updates on a faulted mirror component and when the component is repaired
it updates only the missed blocks, if that is appropriate, not the whole
device. This strategy is particularly suited to mirrors composed of remote
components (see project ENBD), because faults are likely to be temporary
network faults in this setting, not catastrophic failures of the remote
media. This driver is the first of several which will add intelligence to
the Linux kernels own software RAID drivers. It is compatible with the
standard Linux raidtools2 software utilities package.

Changes: The driver now contains an experimental implementation of
asynchronous mirrored writes, enabled with "async=1" at module load.
Writes to a mirror are no longer twice as slow as normal. Old mirror
components which are replaced into the array are now recognised
automatically, and an intelligent resync of their not uptodate sectors
alone is carried out. The driver cooperates with the ENBD (see freshmeat)
driver in allowing it to advise automatically of its disabling or
reenabling, and will initiate the appropriate reincorporation and
resynchronization itself.

System
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks

About: Keepalived for LVS aims to add a strong and robust keepalive
facility to the Linux Virtual Server project. This project is written in C
with multilayer TCP/IP stack checks. It implements a framework based on
three family checks: Layer3, Layer4, and Layer5. This framework gives the
daemon the ability of checking a LVS server pool states.When one of the
servers in the LVS server pool is down, keepalived informs the Linux
kernel via a setsockopt call to remove this server entry from the LVS
topology. In addition, it implements a VRRPv2 stack to handle director
failover.

Changes: This release adds support for virtual_server_group, which allows
real_server to belong to multiple virtual_servers without launching a
bunch of healthcheckers. The differentiate configuration parser was
extended to support virtual_server_group differentiate entries and
preserve IPVS working topology. Support for virtual_server_group was added
to IP address range support. A SIGCHLD extension was added. VRRP
virtual_routes were extended to support source route selection. Some
cosmetics patches were made.

System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
System :: Networking
System :: Operating System Kernels :: Linux

About: The Linux Virtual Server Project is an Open Source project to
cluster many real servers together into a highly available,
high-performance virtual server. The LVS handles connections from clients
and passes them on the the real servers (so-called Layer 4 switching) and
can virtualize almost any TCP or UDP service, like HTTP, HTTPS, NNTP, FTP,
DNS, ssh, POP3, IMAP4, SMTP, etc. It is fully transparent to the client
accessing the virtual service.

Changes: This version changes the overhead ratio of active/ inactive
connections from 50 to 256 in the least- connection scheduler and the
weighted least-connection scheduler. It tidies up the code in
ip_vs_conn.c and ip_vs_core.c, and is changed to initialize the
sltimer_jiffies with the system jiffies in the IPVS slow timer code. It
adds the description of the --sort option in the ipvsadm command help,
and tidies up the ipvsadm.c code a little bit. The unnecessary Docdir

Scientific/Engineering

About: Moodss (the Modular Object Oriented Dynamic SpreadSheet) displays
data described and updated in one or more modules loaded at startup time
or dynamically. Data is originally displayed in tables. Graphical viewers,
summary tables, free text viewers, and threshold entries can be created
from any number of table cells. Moodss has full drag'n'drop support in the
UI, and comes with numerous modules for system, database, network, and
other types of monitoring. New modules can be developed in Tcl, Perl,
Python, or C. A monitoring daemon (moomps) for UNIX is included. It can
react to thresholds and record data history in any database for later
analysis or for presentation using common software.

Changes: A database mode was added to the GUI, allowing the user to
browse the data cells histories over time, stored by the companion moomps
daemon, with the same functionalities (drag'n'drop, graphical viewers,
etc.) as in the real-time monitoring mode. Many other enhancements were

[059] - network traffic volume capture to postgresql 1.2
  by Rob Fowler (http://freshmeat.net/users/mianos/)
  Monday, April 14th 2003 01:30

Database
Internet :: Log Analysis
System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: This is a Unix daemon that captures traffic packet size, source,
destination, and times and saves this data into a postgres database in
near real time, from which traffic reports may be made. It does not save
the actual data or headers. Works on ethX or cooked devices like ppp0. It
uses Postgres embedded SQL to insert the data, pcap to capture traffic,
and pthreads to capure and write at the same time. It is written in C++
using STL. Pcap filters can be specified on the command line. Logs go to
syslog.

Changes: When devices go up and down (for example a PPP device), tcap
will now sleep and wait for a device to come back up and start collecting
data as soon as it does. The sleep time between checks is configurable
(with the ?S flag). Messages indicating this status are once again logged
to the syslog.

About: Open DC Hub is a version of the hub software for the Direct Connect
network that should run on all POSIX-compliant operating systems.

Changes: The way the hub forks was changed. The hub will now always run in
at least two processes, where the main process never holds any connected
clients. A bug that prevented parts of the $SR command from being sent to
scripts was fixed. A couple of userlist related bugs were fixed. The EINTR
error is now properly handled wherever it can occur. The Perl sub
kicked_user was added. memset() is now used for zeroing memory. The hub
now uses poll() instead of select() on systems where it's available.

  by Marcin Orlowski (http://freshmeat.net/users/wfmh/)
  Monday, April 14th 2003 08:22

System :: Archiving :: Backup

About: PHP Dump Maker is a smart PHP backup solution. The script reads a
given source directory (with its subdirectories) and then creates a set of
directories filled with the content of the source directory, arranged in
groups to fit a given capacity. It can be used to create CD sets for
backups. It also supports ISO image creation, direct CD burning via
cdrecord, automatic file index creation, and more.

Changes: A file splitting feature was added. The file tosser was rewritten
to be much faster. Memory usage was reduced. Index file creation was
fixed. Some minor issues in an environment with register_globals disabled
were fixed. Reporting of a file exceeding the allowed media capacity was

[065] - PHP File Upload Class 2.51
  by Dave Tufts (http://freshmeat.net/users/davetufts/)
  Monday, April 14th 2003 10:14

Software Development

About: fileupload-class.php extends PHP's native support for uploading
files through a Web browser. It can clean up the file's name, detect its
mime type, and add the proper extension. Special characters in the file's
name get deleted and spaces get replaced with underscores. The new
"cleaned up" name is then returned by the class for use with a database or
link management. There is also the ability to add your own mime-types and
corresponding extensions. Other customizable variables include the path to
the directory where files will be uploaded, maximum file size, maximum
image width, maximum image height, acceptable file types, and whether or
not uploaded files can be overwritten.

Changes: This release supports error messaging in German and Dutch in
addition to English and French (supported in previous versions).

[076] - RoadMap 1.0rc2
  by Pascal Martin (http://freshmeat.net/users/pascalmartin/)
  Monday, April 14th 2003 01:25

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers

About: RoadMap is a GIS program for Linux that displays street maps. The
maps are provided by the US Census Bureau, and thus only cover the US.
Specific areas are displayed by selecting a street address (street number,
street name, city, and state). It interfaces with gpsd to track a GPS
position, and has been designed to be usable on both a desktop or laptop
computer, or on a PDA.

Changes: This version reorganizes the code to prepare for the detection
of the next intersection, fixes the current street tracking in the case
where multiple counties are visible, rewrites the street tracking logic
to make it more stable, and fixes a text mixup when both the current
street and selected street signs are visible. The highlighting of the
selected street block has been restored (broken in 1.0rc1). A few
optimizations, additional bug fixes, and other minor cleanups were made
as well.

Software Development :: Libraries :: Python Modules

About: Scapy is a powerful interactive packet manipulation tool, packet
generator, network scanner, network discovery tool, and packet sniffer. It
provides classes to interactively create packets or sets of packets,
manipulate them, send them over the wire, sniff other packets from the
wire, match answers and replies, and more. Interaction is provided by the
Python interpreter, so Python programming structures can be used (such as
variables, loops, and functions). Report modules are possible and easy to
make. It is intended to do about the same things as ttlscan, nmap, hping,
queso, p0f, xprobe, arping, arp-sk, arpspoof, firewalk, irpas, tethereal,
and tcpdump.

Changes: Use of libpcap/libdnet for portability. DNS protocol. Better
human readability for some some fields (IP protocol, ICMP types, DNS
types, and EAPOL types). Padding extraction (nice to play with etherleak
flaws). Completion and history support. Lot of bugfixes.

[087] - Stunnix Perl-Obfus 1.3

  Monday, April 14th 2003 01:33

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Pre-processors

About: Stunnix Perl-Obfus is a unique solution for protecting your
valuable intellectual property from possible Perl source code
piracy/studying/rework. It's an advanced and extremely reliable obfuscator
for the Perl source code. It converts the Perl source files (.pl and .pm)
into highly mangled and obfuscated forms, making them extremely difficult
to study, analyse, reuse, or re-work for competitors or customers, while
fully retaining functionality of the original source code. It's not a
compiler to machine code, and the obfuscated form will still be the usual
Perl source code, and so will work on all platforms the original source
worked on.

Changes: Support for encoding of the result of obfuscation was added to
allow even greater code hiding. Now it's possible to have effortless and
100% reliable Perl code hiding by applying only encoding stage to the
source. It is also possible to save the mapping between obfuscated and
original symbol names to an external file. Miscellaneous polishing was
performed.

About: tasks is built on PHP and MySQL. It features a dynamic hierarchical
view of your tasks, scheduling due dates and associating URLs with tasks,
an iCalendar of your tasks (scheduled tasks can go into the calendar as
events or task list). and a mobile version for easy access with a PDA.

Changes: Database queries were optimized for huge speed increases. A
load-on-demand system was created which made tree view available on the
homepage. New features were added, including a parent task picker, a date
picker, a "Add Date/Time" button for inserting date/time into notes field,
and more robust search functionality. All lists are sortable, and sort
order is remembered in search session. A preference for sort order was
added on the homepage (it uses SQL order by format). The date format
(year/month/day order) is configurable for folks in other countries. A
time offset in hours was also added for people using a server in a
different time zone.

  Monday, April 14th 2003 01:32

Software Development :: Compilers

About: TCC (Tiny C Compiler) is small, fast, unlimited, and safe. You can

can be mixed freely with standard code. C script is also supported--just
add '#!/usr/bin/tcc' at the first line of your C source, and execute it
directly from the command line.

Changes: This version features PLT generation fixes, tcc doc fixes, a
struct parse fix, and better _Bool lvalue support. Function parameters
must be converted to pointers, string and character constant parsing was
sanitized, comment parsing was fixed, as was a macro function bug, and
configure was added, as were '-run' and '-v' options, and real date
report in __DATE__ and __TIME__ macros.

Software Development

About: TwICE is a Java implementation of the Information and Content
Exchange (ICE) protocol version 1.1. It implements an ICE syndicator
(publisher) and ICE subscriber. TwICE may be useful as a reference
implementation or a public syndicator and subscriber for testing.

scripts that were formerly in the top-level directory have been moved into
the new bin directory. Similarly, all jar files have been moved into lib.
The syndicatorURL instance variable was removed from Subscriber and made a
parameter of multiple methods instead. This way, a subscriber is not tied

[100] - Wake On LAN proxy 0.5 (Stable)
  by Ken (http://freshmeat.net/users/kenyap/)
  Monday, April 14th 2003 01:29

Internet :: Proxy Servers
System :: Hardware

About: wolp is comprised of a server and a client. The server runs on the
gateway or on a host that can be portforwarded to. When connected to by a
client, the server sends a challenge. The client takes the challenge and
concatenates it with the target machine's MAC address and a passphrase,
forms the MD5 hash of the resultant string, and sends this hash as the
reply. The server performs the same computation for every machine record
on file. If a match is found the server broadcasts a WOL packet on the
local network to wake up the target machine.

Changes: This version adds command line options to set the IP address and
port the wakeup packet is sent out on by the daemon.
