[001] - Compact Disc Input and Control Library 0.3
  by R. Bernstein (http://freshmeat.net/users/rocky/)
  Monday, April 21st 2003 00:49

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio
Multimedia :: Video
Software Development :: Libraries

About: This library encapsulates CD-ROM reading and control. Applications
wishing to be oblivious of the OS- and device-dependent properties of a
CD-ROM can use this library. Some support for disk image types like
BIN/CUE and NRG is available, so applications that use this library also
have the ability to read disc images as though they were CDs. A sample
utility for displaying CD info is included.

Changes: This version reduces greatly the overall size of the package by
shortening regression tests and moving large ones to a separate package.
cdinfo now lists the number of CDDB matches, and displays an error
message on failure; it can set the CDDB port and whether to use an HTTP
proxy or not. There were bugfixes in selecting device drivers, and some
small compile warnings and configure bugs were fixed.

Office/Business :: Groupware
Office/Business :: Scheduling

About: A Simple TimeSheet (ASTS) allows a group of people to record the
hours spent working on a variety of projects. For each project, the hours
 can be divided into a number of different tasks. There are global
projects and tasks as well as personal projects and tasks for each user.

Changes: Reports by user and by project have been added. The user can now
switch weeks from the main timesheet page and also return directly to the
login page. Common functions have been moved into a separate Perl module
(ASTSCommon.pm). A browser icon has been added. The documentation has been
updated.

Software Development
Software Development :: Build Tools
Software Development :: Quality Assurance

About: Anthill Pro is an automated manager for the build and release
process of software development. It can provide daily reports of an
overnight build, with automated test runs, a revision log which lists
newly implemented features. Anthill Pro adds to the already robust feature
set of the open source version of Anthill. Anthill Pro is easy to use in
heterogeneous environments since it allows you to use different JDKs and
different classpaths to build different projects. It also provides robust
support for project dependencies, allowing you to rebuild all dependent
projects with the latest version of a dependency. Every project can store
its latest artifacts in Anthill's built-in repository, and Anthill gives
you the ability to rebuild any previously built version.

Changes: This release focuses on resolving some of the issues with the
2.0.9 release, as well as dealing with some additional problems reported
by users. If you are unaffected by any of the listed issues then there is
no reason for you to upgrade.

  by Michiel Ronsse (http://freshmeat.net/users/ronsse/)
  Monday, April 21st 2003 09:55

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Ripping
System :: Filesystems

About: CDfs is a file system for Linux systems that `exports' all tracks
and boot images on a CD as normal files. These files can then be mounted
(e.g. for ISO and boot images), copied, played (audio tracks), etc. The
primary goal for developing this file system was to `unlock' information
in old ISO sessions. The file system also allows you to access data on
faulty multi session disks, e.g. disks with multiple single sessions
instead of a multi session.

Changes: Numerous bug fixes were made. Far better HFS support was
implemented. /proc/cdfs now uses kernel sequential synthetic file support.
Preliminary support was added for audio CDs that have been produced using
faulty machines that produce CDs that no longer comply with the Red Book
standard.

Software Development :: Version Control :: CVS

About: CVSToys is a collection of companion tools for the Concurrent
Versions System, better known as CVS. It currently contains FreshCVS,
which performs actions in response to a commit. Actions include
notification by various methods, updating a working copy, and rsync'ing to
backup. Another key feature of FreshCVS notifications is that you receive
one per commit, not one for each directory of the commit as
loginfo-triggered scripts are prone to do. FreshCVS is extensible with
Python, and notifications may be published by a Perspective Broker network
service, allowing 3rd party clients to listen in.

Changes: The configuration file is now reloaded automatically. In mail
notifications, a reasonable URL is now generated for the case of the
newly-added file. The location of the listening socket is configurable.

[018] - devlabel 0.35.21
  by lerhaupt (http://freshmeat.net/users/lerhaupt/)
  Monday, April 21st 2003 13:32

System :: Filesystems
Utilities

About: Devlabel is a program which dynamically creates symbolic links to
disk/partition names. It uses the disk's and/or partition's unique
identifiers to keep the symlink pointed to the correct location even if
the underlying partition's name has changed. So, regardless of whether
/dev/sdb6 becomes /dev/sdc6, devlabel figures this all out and points the
symlink to the correct data.

Changes: Previously, if attempting to add a symlink to a device which was
part of a multipath set, devlabel would not allow this because multiple
devices returned the same UUID. Now, this can be avoided by adding
symlinks with the --multipath option. This will instruct devlabel to
create multiple symlinks named YourSymlinkName_multipath# each pointing to
a different path that is part of the multipath set. These symlinks can
then be used in /etc/raidtab to create a working multipath device which
will not succumb to any device renaming problems.

[019] - DIBS 0.8
  by Emin (http://freshmeat.net/users/emin63/)
  Monday, April 21st 2003 13:17

System :: Archiving :: Backup

About: Since disk drives are cheap, backup should be cheap too. Of course
it does not help to mirror your data by adding more disks to your own
computer because a fire, flood, power surge, etc. could still wipe out
your local data center. Instead, you should give your files to peers
(and in return store their files) so that if a catastrophe strikes your
area, you can recover data from surviving peers. The Distributed Internet
Backup System (DIBS) is designed to implement this vision.

Changes: This release includes a rewritten store command which recursively
and incrementally backs up everything in a directory. The backup is
incremental in the sense that if a file which is already backed up is
encountered (and the file has not changed) then DIBS does not waste
bandwidth in backing it up again. Other changes in this release include
updated documentation, faster Reed-Solomon encoding using lookup tables,
and other speed improvements and bugfixes.

[021] - DRT 0.2.8
  by Amir Michail (http://freshmeat.net/users/amir/)
  Monday, April 21st 2003 18:16

Software Development

About: DRT is a design recovery tool for interactive graphical
applications running under the X Window System. The tool automatically
captures actions performed while using such an application. Functions
particularly relevant to each action are highlighted. Moreover, the action
itself is described visually from fragments of the application display.
One can search and browse these actions to learn about the design of an
application.

Changes: DRT action detection is no longer confused by frequent
polling/background tasks. A new page has been added to the settings dialog
to take parameters for this new action detection mechanism. You can read
about it in the online Manual under the heading "New Action Detection
Mechanism". A robust texmacs-1.0.1.10.drt template file has been included
to demonstrate this new mechanism. (TeXmacs does lots of polling in
between actions.) Moreover, the initial sequence diagram shown now takes
into account all the calls/exits in an action (not just the first few).

Communications :: Email :: Filters
Internet
Text Processing :: Filters

About: DSPAM is a server-side anti-spam agent for UNIX email servers. It
masquerades as the email server's local delivery agent and filters/learns
SPAM using a Bayesian statistical approach which provides an
administratively maintenance-free, self-learning Anti-Spam service. Each
email is broken down into its most interesting tokens, each assigned a
spam probability. All probabilities are then combined to produce a
statistical probability of spam. This approach, applied to a mature corpus
of email, has the potential to yield a 99.5% success rate with only 0.03%
chance of false positives.

Changes: If referal information is found in a spam message, the original
15 tokens will be used for both reversal and spam calculations (having
found that the original 15 tokens were generally more useful than a second
set of tokens generated). This release ignores the recipient's header for
messages forwarded as spam that don't have reversal information and pays
more attention to the original forwarded header. A bugfix improves the
embedding of reversal information into multipart emails.

About: FMPP is a text file preprocessor that uses FreeMarker templates to
provide macros, flow control, and expressions. It uses recursive directory
processing, so it can generate complete homepages (a tree of HTML files
and images). It is extendable in Java to display data from any data source
(such as a database). It is usable with a command-line interface, as an
Ant-task, or embedded into a Java application.

Changes: This version utilizes FreeMarker 2.2.1 date/time support. Minor
bugfixes were made.

About: fwsnort translates snort rules into an equivalent iptables ruleset.
By making use of the iptables string match module, fwsnort can detect
application layer signatures which exist in many snort rules. fwsnort adds
a --hex-string option to iptables, which allows snort rules that contain
hex characters to be input directly into iptables rulesets without
modification. In addition, fwsnort makes use of the IPTables::Parse Perl
module in order to (optionally) restrict the snort rule translation to
only those rules that specify traffic that could potentially be allowed
through an existing iptables policy.

changing the color of the tab labels. Other enhancements include a
toolbar, a buttonbar, flexible command options to launch new terminals,
tabs, and shells from either the GUI or command line, customizable key
bindings for MGT functions and other uses, font shadowing, the ability to
"split" terminals so that each window can simultaneously multiple
terminals, the ability to "view" or "bond" terminals with other terminals,
and various other improvements.

Changes: Several bugs have been fixed. 'echo -e '1234567890\10\10\e[Z.'
now produces correct output. Previously, if you began a keyboard shortcut
in one MGT window, and then opened new MGT windows (not tabs), and then
tried to use the full shortcut 'Ctrl-l n', MGT would crash. Another
problem caused the cursor to disappear if the text selection went over it
and back. If bold text was drawn by overstriking characters, stripes would
be left along the left border of terminal screen. Finally, if screen was
launched from MGT, it wouldn't render semi-graphic characters.

[072] - Port Scan Attack Detector 1.1
  by Michael Rash (http://freshmeat.net/users/michaelrash/)
  Monday, April 21st 2003 08:38

System :: Networking :: Firewalls
System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: Port Scan Attack Detector (psad) is a collection of four
lightweight system daemons written in Perl and C that are designed to work
with Linux firewalling code (iptables in the 2.4.x kernels, and ipchains
in the 2.2.x kernels) to detect port scans. It features a set of highly
configurable danger thresholds (with sensible defaults provided), verbose
alert messages that include the source, destination, scanned port range,
begin and end times, TCP flags and corresponding nmap options (Linux 2.4.x
kernels only), email alerting, and automatic blocking of offending IP
addresses via dynamic configuration of ipchains/iptables firewall
rulesets. In addition, for the 2.4.x kernels psad incorporates many of the
TCP, UDP, and ICMP signatures included in Snort to detect highly suspect
scans for various backdoor programs (e.g. EvilFTP, GirlFriend, SubSeven),
DDoS tools (mstream, shaft), and advanced port scans (syn, fin, Xmas)
which are easily leveraged against a machine via nmap.

Changes: The IPTables::Parse module was added for better processing of the
iptables ruleset. The --snort-sids option was added so that iptables
messages generated by fwsnort can be included in alerts. It is now
possible to specify entire networks in the auto ips file through the use
of the Net::IPv4Addr module. A better logging format is now used. A bug
fix was made for incorrectly looking for the "MAC" string in iptables
messages that could have been generated by the FORWARD chain. All strcpy
and strcat calls were replaced with strlcpy and strlcat.

  Monday, April 21st 2003 00:52

Software Development :: Bug Tracking
Software Development :: Quality Assurance

About: The Project Assistant (prass) is a Web tool designed for use in the
software change management process. It provides a Web interface for
feature/support/change and bug requests support for projects that are
separated from each other. Each project has its own list of developers
(with different roles and permissions). The developer can perform
operations depending on his permissions and role in the project.

Changes: There are many major enhancements and major bugfixes. The most
important is the implementation of the SMTP mail engine. The "prass"
sends mail notifications to the developers when new request arrives or
someone changes a request. The user registration process now consists of
two steps: the user should complete the registration form, and then
approve registration by following a link which is delivered in the mail
notification. There are now three languages supported by the interface:
English, Russian, and French. There are also a lot of improvements in the
 process of requests changing.

[093] - TSSHP 0.2.10f (Development)
  by BryanN (http://freshmeat.net/users/reveng/)
  Monday, April 21st 2003 07:06

Games/Entertainment :: First Person Shooters
Games/Entertainment :: Role-Playing

About: TSSHP (The System Shock Hack Project) is a project to
reverse-engineer and recode (from scratch, but using the original
datafiles) the 3D role-playing/shooter games from Looking Glass (System
Shock and the Ultima Underworlds).

Changes: A bunch of memory leaks were fixed. Quit is now handled by an
event, more orderly shutdown. A bug that caused lost keybindings on exit
if the resources were not found was fixed. The System Shock
transparent-doors bug was fixed. The System Shock
music-not-following-level bug was fixed.

[095] - Video Disk Recorder 1.1.28 (Development)
  by Johannes Feigl (http://freshmeat.net/users/JAF84/)
  Monday, April 21st 2003 10:10

Multimedia
Multimedia :: Video
Multimedia :: Video :: Capture

About: Video Disk Recorder (VDR) is a digital sat-reciever program using
Linux and DVB technologies. It can record MPEG2 streams, as well as output
the stream to TV. It also supports plugins for DVD, DivX, or MP3 playback
and more.

Changes: This release uses masks in EIT filtering to reduce the number of
filters. Handling of Ca descriptors has been fixed. Now only those Ca
descriptors are sent to a CAM that are actually understood by that CAM.
CAM communication during replay and on non-Ca channels has been
re-enabled. It is now possible to do simultaneous recording and replay
with a single DVB card, even with encrypted channels. Detection of pending
user I/O from CAMs has been enhanced to avoid sluggish reaction to remote
control keypresses. "pause live video" has been implemented.

[096] - Wheel 'O Yum 2.6.2
  by saber850 (http://freshmeat.net/users/saber850/)
  Monday, April 21st 2003 08:29

Communications :: Chat
Games/Entertainment
Utilities

About: The Wheel 'O Yum is a program to assist in deciding where to eat.
All too often, excess time is spent among groups trying to decide. The
Wheel 'O Yum allows one or more people to vote on their favorite
restaurants and spin the wheel for a random, but educated, restaurant.

Changes: A "Reset Votes" capability was added to the My Profile and User
Manager dialogs. Changing a user's profile in the server (User Manager)
now gets distributed to all connected clients. When a user fails to log
in, his attempted password is no longer displayed in the server's console,
and the date-time stamp is now displayed. A button was added in
RestaurantManager to automatically populate "Last Visited" fields with the
current date. Bug fixes were made and code cleanup was done.

[099] - xml2sql-v 1.1
  by Tino (http://freshmeat.net/users/tino/)
  Monday, April 21st 2003 00:16

Database
Text Processing :: Filters
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML

About: xml2sql-v is based on expat and is a quick and dirty solution to
transform the content of any well-formed XML file into SQL INSERT
statements such that you can postprocess the content of the XML data with
SQL. The XML file is neither tested for correctness nor is it checked to
contain anything reasonable. The insert statements will have the UTF-8
characterset but there are 3 more utilities (entityfix, latin1-utf8, and
utf8-latin1), to fix broken HTML entities within the XML files, convert
"forgotten" Latin1-Characters into proper XML entities, and convert the
output back to Latin1 for easy insertion into the database.

Changes: In this version, "entityfix" should now correct all invalid &#
entities.
