[001] - 2Pong 0.4
  by kirsh (http://freshmeat.net/users/kirsh/)
  Saturday, July 5th 2003 14:05

Games/Entertainment
Games/Entertainment :: Arcade
Software Development :: Testing

About: 2Pong is a pong clone that is played with two balls instead of
one. The game features two modes of play - the regular pong game, and a
time-based mode against an unbeatable AI opponent. Network support for
1-vs-1 games is planned.

Changes: A "2 vs 2" mode was added, where you play with a
computer-controlled player against two computer controlled players. A full
screen mode was added, and can be toggled with 'F'. The mouse is now
trapped within the window during play. Mouse support was added to the
menu. Miscellaneous bugfixes and additions were made.

About: The 3D Stacked Horizontal Bar Graph provides versatile components
so that Web authors and Java developers can easily build and publish
dynamic and interactive bar graphs. There are multiple data access
methods, including database binding, a file reader, and an HTML page
reader. This component also provides the ability to interact with other
page components.

[003] - 4est's Weblog 2.10
  by 4est (http://freshmeat.net/users/4est_j/)
  Saturday, July 5th 2003 13:46

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content

About: 4est's Weblog has pseudo code, emoticons, a censored word list, and
time zone offset support with an option for a multi-user interface.
Security is provided through a password protected post screen. You can
enable or disable commenting.

Changes: Support for entry deletion was added. A master password was
added, so now the admin only needs to remember one password. Support for
SSI was added, and can be invoked by adding an /ssi/on switch to your URL.
Support was added for loading the entry data into the form fields in the
boss_post screen. Some messy code that was left over from the previous
version was fixed. The first entry in a new weblog or a new month change
will now overwrite the automatically generated entry from a new weblog or
a month change.

[009] - CinePaint 0.16-4
  by linux (http://freshmeat.net/users/brainless/)
  Saturday, July 5th 2003 01:45

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors :: Raster-Based

About: CinePaint is image retouching software with features similar to
GIMP or Photoshop. However, two significant enhancements set CinePaint
apart. It handles 16-bit per channel color (48-bit RGB) and has a sequence
manager that facilitates moving through numbered images. That makes it
very useful for manipulating scanned 35mm film. It was used in the
production of Harry Potter, Scooby-Doo, Stuart Little, and other feature
films. It is the most popular open source tool in the motion picture
industry.

Changes: Initial work was made on synchronizing the Unix, Mac, and
Windows code. This release may still be a little shaky for Unix users,
who are advised to stick to the 0.16 release for now.

About: The Crash Core Analysis Suite utility is a self-contained tool,
loosely based on the SVR4 crash command but completely merged with gdb,
thereby combining the kernel-specific nature of crash with the source
level debugging capabilities of gdb. The utility can be used to
investigate live systems, kernel core dumps created from the Kernel Core
Dump patch offered by Mission Critical Linux, and kernel core dumps
created from the Linux Kernel Crash Dumps (LKCD) patch offered by SGI.

[011] - Cxref 1.5e
  by linux (http://freshmeat.net/users/brainless/)
  Saturday, July 5th 2003 12:10

Software Development

About: Cxref is a program that will produce documentation (in LaTeX, HTML,
RTF or SGML) including cross-references from C program source code. It
works for ANSI C, including most gcc extensions. The documentation for the
program is produced from comments in the code that are appropriately
formatted. The cross referencing comes from the code itself and requires
no extra work.

Changes: This version now can handle gcc-3.x and put all of its internal
"#defines" in the output. This new version also compiles cxref-cpp if you
are using a version of gcc-3.x that drops comments on the same line as a
"#define". Various bugfixes were made, including not losing the comment or
value when C++ style comments follow a #define. It was updated to work
with newer versions of flex and the Sun version of yacc. References for
local functions with the same name in several files can now be handled.
Some extra semicolons were removed from the HTML output. Macros with
variable arguments are now handled.

  Saturday, July 5th 2003 21:08

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Graphics Conversion

About: "Jpegpixi" is short for "JPEG pixel interpolator". It is a
command-line utility which interpolates pixels in JFIF images (commonly
refered to as "JPEG images"). This is useful to correct images from a
digital camera with CCD defects. Jpegpixi is unique in that it tries to
preserve the quality of the JFIF image as much as possible. Most graphics
programs decode JFIF images when they are loaded, and re-encode them when
they are saved, which results in an overall loss of quality. Jpegpixi, on
the other hand, does not decode and re-encode the image, but manipulates
the encoded image data, protecting the quality of the image as much as
possible.

to the command line).

encryption and authentication) kernel extensions and an IKE (Internet Key
Exchange, keying and encrypted routing daemon) as well as various rc
scripts and documentation. It is known to interoperate with other IPSEC
and IKE system already deployed by other vendors such as OpenBSD, Cisco,
or CheckPoint. It also features Opportunistic Encryption, subnet
extrusion, and with the appropriate patches interops nicely with Microsoft
Windows XP/2000 using X.509 certificates.

Changes: This release is almost exactly the same as 2.00 except for a
change to the Opportunistic Encryption (OE) protocol. This change is a
change to DNS Resource record useage and thus a serious change to the
protocol, we suggest that all OE users upgrade to 2.01 to be compatible
with both old (while they last) and new OE sites.

[037] - Openwall Linux kernel patch 2.4.21-ow2 (Linux 2.4)
  by Solar Designer (http://freshmeat.net/users/solardiz/)

Security
System :: Operating System Kernels :: Linux
System :: Systems Administration

About: The Openwall Linux kernel patch is a collection of security
"hardening" features for the Linux kernel. In addition to the new
features, some versions of the patch contain various security fixes. The
"hardening" features of the patch, while not a complete method of
protection, provide an extra layer of security against the easier ways to
exploit certain classes of vulnerabilities and/or reduce the impact of
those vulnerabilities. The patch can also add a little bit more privacy to
the system by restricting access to parts of /proc so that users may not
see what others are doing.

Changes: Fixes for two recently discovered Linux kernel vulnerabilities
have been added. One of the vulnerabilities allows for dumping the
contents of unreadable SUID/SGID programs, the other gives users read
access to the environment of SUID/SGID programs they run.

[066] - WindowLab 1.11
  by Nick Gravgaard (http://freshmeat.net/users/nickgravgaard/)

Desktop Environment :: Window Managers

About: WindowLab is a small and simple window manager of novel design. It
is click-to-focus, shares its window depth policy with the Amiga, and has
a window resizing/reshaping method similar to that of 8-1/2 from Plan 9.
It maintains the illusion of direct manipulation by constraining the mouse
pointer when appropriate (i.e., when a window cannot be dragged any
further in one direction). The pointer is also constrained vertically
(effectively making the target menu items infinitely tall according to
Fitts's law) when it is in the menubar to reduce pointing time.

Changes: Fullscreen mode has been fixed so that no border is shown on the
screen, setsid() is now called in fork_exec() to prevent child processes
from dying when WindowLab is killed or crashes, and support has been added
for toggling window depth and cycling between next and previous windows
using the keyboard.

Changes: In this version, CPU usage is now under control, and various
compatibility problems have been fixed (the .met file format was
incompatible with eMule, BSD had problems with configure, there was a gcc
