System :: Networking :: Firewalls
Utilities

About: adcfw-log is a tool for analyzing firewall logs in order to
extract meaningful information. It is designed to be a standalone script
with very few requirements that can generate different kinds of reports,
such as fully formatted reports of what had been logged, with summaries
by source or destination host, the type of service, or protocol. There
are also options to filter the input data by date, host, protocol,
service, and so on.

Changes: This release fixes incorrect reporting of ICMP packets when
information about the originating packet is logged.

Software Development :: Assemblers

About: Aasm is an advanced modular assembler designed to support several
target architectures. It has been designed to be easily extended. Its
global architecture takes advantages of dynamic libraries to provide
input, assembler and output modules. The input module supports Intel
syntax (like nasm, tasm, masm, etc.). The x86 assembler module supports
all opcodes up to P6 including MMX, SSE and 3DNow! extensions. F-CPU and
SPARC assembler modules are under development. Several output modules are
available for ELF, COFF, IntelHex, and raw binary formats. Advanced
features include symbol scopes, an expressions engine, big integer
support, macro capability, and numerous and accurate warning messages
(over 300).

Changes: A SPARC v8 assembler module was added and more tests were added.

[004] - bash programmable completion 20030713 (Stable)
  by Ian Macdonald (http://freshmeat.net/users/ianmacd/)
  Sunday, July 13th 2003 03:53

System :: Shells
System :: Systems Administration
Utilities

About: Since v2.04, bash has allowed you to intelligently program and
extend its standard completion behavior to achieve complex command lines
with just a few keystrokes. Imagine typing ssh [Tab] and being able to
complete on hosts from your ~/.ssh/known_hosts files. Or typing man 3 str
[Tab] and getting a list of all string handling functions in the UNIX
manual. mount system: [Tab] would complete on all exported file-systems
from the host called system, while make [Tab] would complete on all
targets in Makefile. This project was conceived to produce programmable
completion routines for the most common Linux/UNIX commands, reducing the
amount of typing sysadmins and programmers need to do on a daily basis.

Changes: In this version, find completion now handles more than one
directory root. RPM completion has been updated for rpm 4.2. kldload and
portinstall completion were modified for FreeBSD 5. A minor fix was made
to ifconfig and iwconfig completion.

System :: Archiving
System :: Archiving :: Backup

About: Bontmia is a network-based backup tool that saves configurable
numbers of last month, week, day, hour, and minute backups. Each backup
is a complete snapshot of the original directories, and only new and
changed files take up space when generating snapshots because of the use
of hard links. Remote access is secure by using SSH. Only changes are
transferred, which makes for a fast backup.

Changes: A snapshot is now created outside the archive directory moved
into it when complete. The hostname is now also added on local backups
and remote hostnames are resolved to the long version.

About: Buildpkg is a package build system. It gives you the opportunity to
create package system (rpm, dpkg, etc.) independent descriptions (.def)
which can be used to create binary packages on every system. It can be
also used to track installations and create packages of the installed
files. If you want more safety, you can use the 'jail' feature. In this
mode a chroot-ed environment will be created from the (configurable) list
of programs and the installation will be done here. Besides Linux,
Solaris/SunOS, and FreeBSD packages are also supported.

Software Development :: Version Control
Software Development :: Version Control :: CVS

About: CVS is a version control system, which allows you to keep old
versions of files (usually source code), keep a log of who, when, and why
changes occurred, etc., like RCS or SCCS. Unlike the simpler systems, CVS
does not just operate on one file at a time or one directory at a time,
but operates on hierarchical collections of directories consisting of
version controlled files. CVS helps to manage releases and to control the
concurrent editing of source files among multiple authors. CVS allows
triggers to enable/log/control various operations and works well over a
wide area network.

Changes: In this version, a warning message is issued if an admin file
contains more than one DEFAULT entry. Error running a verifymsg script
(such as referencing an unset user variable or the script not existing)
now causes the verification to fail. Errors in admin files commands
(like unset user variables) are no longer reported unless the command is
actually executed. The Checkin.prog and Update.prog features have been
removed. This previously allowed executables to be specified in the
modules file to be run at update and checkin time, but users could edit
these files on a per workspace basis, creating a security hole.

remastering of Damn Small Linux running a distccd daemon and some
general cleaning up/removal of unneeded packages/ apps.

Changes: A bug in which /etc/alternatives/cc was pointing to a
non-existent "tcc" was fixed. The man pages and documentation were cleaned
up to trim down the size of the ISO image. An audible notification (via
the PC speaker) was added at start up to note successful boot. The motd
now notes the node's IP address if it is successfully detected. A few more
unnecessary packages were removed.

  Sunday, July 13th 2003 21:30

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: Perl Modules

About: dTemplate is a Perl module which provides a flexible and very fast
templating system. It is compiled into an internal form before use, and
the parser function (which is highly optimized C code) use that for input.
By nesting parse function calls, you can define a parse-tree that is
similar to your page structure, which makes your code easily
understandable. Advanced features include printf formatting of template
variables (for statistic generation), transparent handling of multiple
styles of a template (for multi-language sites or skinned web-pages), and
encoders (uri_encoder and html_encoder).

Changes: It is now possible to use parse{''} not only to report missing
variable declarations, but as a mechanism to handle custom variable
parsing. The handling of sub-references is more flexible: they can now get
parameters from the template. The manual page is almost entirely
rewritten, and the supported constructor is now the "new".

Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)

About: FSP is a UDP-based protocol for transferring files. It has many
benefits over FTP, mainly for running anonymous archives. It is usable on
lines with high packet loss ratio (70% WiFi), can go behind firewalls and
unoticed by port scans (because of UDP), does not overload networks when
hosting ISOs or movies, share files on modem lines without eating all of
the bandwidth, and keeps lamers away from your site (they don't know how
to get to it). This project is active continuation of the FSP code base
(abandoned for the last 5 years).

About: The TT Web Site Manager is a general purpose database driven Web
site management system written in PHP, featuring support for multiple
database servers (MySQL is the default). It allows multiple Web sites to
be built and managed entirely on the fly from dynamic content stored in a
database. Pages can be assembled in any order from a library of code items
which can include a mixture of static HTML, SQL, and PHP. There is no
framework of templates or forms to constrain the coder, and there is no
limitation on content type, meaning that almost any content can be served.
This means that it can be used to quickly put together content managed Web
sites without the need for the limitations imposed by a dedicated content
management system.

than the Web root, permitting multiple sites to be served from the same
base address. It also includes some reworking of the documentation.

About: Zina is a graphical interface to your MP3 collection, a personal
jukebox, and an MP3 streamer. It can run alone, be embedded into an
existing Web site, or be used as a Postnuke/PHPNuke module. It is similar
to Andromeda, but is released under the GPL.

Changes: This release adds an option to resize images only if the old
width is greater than the new width. It fixes a bug where filenames
containing '%' '#' and certain other characters wouldn't work. It also
returns the "local is admin" functionality which was broken with the last
release.
