Internet :: WWW/HTTP

About: Ajaqs is a Web app that organizes FAQs on a per-project basis. It
is designed to be deployed under popular Web and application servers. It
aims to serve two purposes: to provide engineering groups a mechanism for
consolidating and preserving in-house knowledge in connection to product
development and usage, and to provide small companies with a Web interface
for exposing searchable, internationalizable information related to
products and services.

Changes: This release supports integration with PoolMan, for pooling of
database connections. Please see the installation page for details. The
administrative frontend is still in a state of flux, with modifications to
existing records in the backend still buggy.

Internet

About: Babeldoc is a framework and set of applications to process
documents for business-to-business and other Internet/integration
applications. It is primarily intended for text documents, especially XML,
but supports a wide range of operations and data types. It has a
sophisticated journaling system that supports replaying and reprocessing.
Babeldoc is pipeline based and supports numerous ways to combine the
pipeline stages in a dynamically reconfigurable fashion. It has a GUI and
a Web-based console for document processing and monitoring, and comes with
tools for the tranformation of flatfile data to XML, archival, and
cryptography. Additionally it is able to scan various data sources based
on sophisticated constraints.

Changes: This is the first release of the 1.1 development branch, and
contains a completely new module and build system. Pipeline multithreading
was added. Changes were made to the the configuration handling.
Classloader support was implemented to help systems that don't suppport
environment variables. New, experimental GUI stuff was added. The scanner
code has been rewritten.

About: B-Scribbles strives to improve any PHP Web page. The transparent
integration is painless to configure and install. Once in place, any
visitor will be able to 'scribble' (post) to a board using a simple,
non-obtrusive interface. It is designed to be extremely fast & scalable.

Changes: Lots of improvement with this new release; a history file has
been created, and older entries are no longer dumped. Instead, a
navigation bar has been added to view through all the old posts. A new XML
database technology has been birthed around this. It should be extremely
fast, and capable of going through very large files.

Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Documentation
Software Development :: Interpreters

About: Cpptools is a set of C/C++ development tools. This package contains
a C++ scanning class coded both in C++ and Python. CppFSMDoc.py is the
Finite State Machine diagrammer which uses FSM comment tags inside
sourcefiles. CppClassHierarchy.py parses C/C++ sourcefiles and generates a
graphical dependency tree using Graphviz, and CppColorize.py scans
sourcefiles and generates a highlighted HTML version.

Changes: This release introduces CppFSMDoc.py, the Finite State Machine
diagrammer which uses FSM comment tags inside sourcefiles, and
CppClassHierarchy.py, which parses source-code and generates a graphical
dependency tree. Both tools use Graphviz to render image files. A minor
bug in CppScanner.py was also fixed.

Communications :: Chat :: Internet Relay Chat
Communications :: Ham Radio

About: CWirc is a plugin for the X-Chat IRC client to transmit raw Morse
code over the internet using IRC servers as reflectors. The transmitted
Morse code can be received in near real-time by other X-Chat clients with
the CWirc plugin. CWirc tries to emulate a standard amateur radio rig: it
sends and receives Morse over virtual channels, and it can listen to
multiple senders transmitting on the same channel. Morse code is keyed
locally using a straight or iambic key connected to a serial port, or
using the mouse buttons, and the sound is played through the soundcard.

Changes: The documentation has been corrected and extended.

[013] - dnspython 1.1.0b1

  Saturday, July 19th 2003 08:04

Internet :: Name Service (DNS)
Software Development :: Libraries :: Python Modules
System :: Networking

About: dnspython is a DNS toolkit for Python. It supports almost all of
the record types. It can be used for queries, zone transfers, and dynamic
updates. It supports TSIG authenticated messages and EDNS0. dnspython
provides both high and low level access to DNS. The high level classes
perform queries for data of a given name, type, and class, and return an
answer set. The low level classes allow direct manipulation of DNS zones,
messages, names, and records.

Changes: Message sections are now lists of RRsets, not lists of nodes.
Many tests have been added to the test suite; dnspython 1.0.0 had 47
tests, 1.1.0b1 has 217. The improved testing uncovered a number of bugs,
all of which have been fixed. A new class to allow finer control over the
generation of DNS wire format has been added.

[016] - File Service Protocol 2.8.1 beta 9 (Beta)
  by Radim Kolar (http://freshmeat.net/users/hsn/)
  Saturday, July 19th 2003 12:35

Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)

About: FSP is a UDP-based protocol for transferring files. It has many
benefits over FTP, mainly for running anonymous archives. It is usable on
lines with high packet loss ratio (70% WiFi), can go behind firewalls and
unoticed by port scans (because of UDP), does not overload networks when
hosting ISOs or movies, share files on modem lines without eating all of
the bandwidth, and keeps lamers away from your site (they don't know how
to get to it). This project is active continuation of the FSP code base
(abandoned for the last 5 years).

Changes: A serious bug which prevented the server from working if homedir
is not the root directory was fixed. FSP now compiles and runs on Cygwin.
The server tries to create tmpdir if it does not exist, and switches to
read-only mode if tmpdir is not defined. Command line arguments have now
priority over the configuration file.

  Saturday, July 19th 2003 18:09

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Ripping

About: Jack is a console based cd-ripper. It supports cdparanoia and
cdda2wav (amongst others) for extraction and various MP3 and OGG/Vorbis
encoders; you can even rip from a cdrdao-generated CD image. Emphasis is
on failure-safeness and ease of use. Jack can encode multiple tracks at
once, good on SMP systems. It can resume its work if interrupted and keeps
an eye on available HD space. Freedb query is also supported, any time you
like, even after encoding. Jack can try to query freedb for MP3s of which
you do not know the CD anymore, provided you have a complete rip and know
the track sequence.

Changes: A new sloppy ripping mode (activated by a secret switch), support
for MPEGplus, FLAC support, a new --quality switch for VBR, a new

  by linux (http://freshmeat.net/users/brainless/)
  Saturday, July 19th 2003 19:40

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: JACK is a low-latency audio server. It can connect a number of
different applications to an audio device, as well as allowing them to
share audio between themselves. Its clients can run in their own processes
(i.e., as normal applications), or can they can run within the JACK server
(as a "plugin"). JACK is different from other audio server efforts in that
it has been designed from the ground up to be suitable for professional
audio work. This means that it focuses on two key areas: synchronous
execution of all clients, and low latency operation.

Changes: Jack no longer sends event messages to clients not yet running a
dedicated JACK thread. More portable/forgiving #defines are included in
the headers. A new --dither=none option was added for scripting help.
Transport is initialized to "Stopped, frame zero" when jack is started,
and some documentation updates were made.

[035] - Native SVG from Mozilla Beta 1
  by linux (http://freshmeat.net/users/brainless/)
  Saturday, July 19th 2003 18:05

About: SVG is similar in scope to Macromedia's proprietary Flash
technology: among other things it offers anti-aliased rendering, pattern
and gradient fills, sophisticated filter-effects, clipping to arbitrary
paths, text, and animations. What distinguishes SVG from Flash is that it
is a W3 recommendation (i.e., a standard for all intents and purposes) and
that it is XML-based as opposed to a closed binary format. It is
explicitly designed to work with other W3C standards such as CSS, DOM, and
SMIL. The Mozilla SVG implementation is a native SVG implementation; it
can handle documents that contain SVG, MathML, XHTML, XUL, etc. all mixed
together in the same 'compound' document.

[047] - ShoutCastProxy 0.5

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio

About: ShoutCastProxy is a system for saving bandwidth when multiple users
in different rooms are listening to the same ShoutCast audio stream.
ShoutCastProxy runs on a central server, and connects to whatever
ShoutCast server that a client requests. If multiple clients request the
same stream, the stream will be downloaded from the original source only
once, but will still be sent to all the clients. Multiple proxies can be
chained together.

Changes: A session should now be much more stable when, for example, the
shoutcast server it connects to disconnects for a few moments. You can now
also set a limit on the number of clients. The configuration file has been
improved--ACLs are now optional.

[048] - Software Suspend 1.0.3 (2.4 Stable)
  by Nigel Cunningham (http://freshmeat.net/users/ncunningham/)
  Saturday, July 19th 2003 08:22

System :: Boot
System :: Operating System Kernels :: Linux
System :: Power (UPS)

About: swsusp enables you to suspend your machine without having to use
APM or BIOS support. It creates an image which is saved in your active
swaps. At the next system bootup, the kernel detects the saved image,
restores the memory from it and then it continues to run as before you've
suspended.

Changes: Initial code for ranges was added, which will be a foundation to
swapfile support. Swapfiles are ignored when calculating available
swapspace. Page allocations and frees that are triggered by timer events
are now trapped. An extra instance of the noresume_fix_signature procedure
left from splitting suspend.c has been removed. Some important messages
were switched from printlog to printk to ensure that they're always
emitted. Additional relevant info is printed in debug info. You can now
pause at anytime (when loglevel > 1) by turning on caps lock.
