[001] - a place to go 0.4.1
  by Tillmann Heidsieck (http://freshmeat.net/users/jashugan/)
  Saturday, July 26th 2003 14:50

Communications :: Email :: Post-Office :: IMAP

About: aptg(2) (a place to go) is a Web-based email client written in PHP,
using localhost connections to a running IMAP4 server. It is designed to
work with Postfix. Authentication is against a MySQL database as used by
pam_mysql (username + password) or by using one of the virtual email
addresses (also stored in the MySQL database) and that password. A
powerful addressbook is also included. It uses its own session handling
system with one-time session ids.

Changes: Password changes are now possible. IMAP folder actions
(create/delete) were added. A small range of personal options can be set
(first name, last name, signature, and favorite email address), and they
are used when sending messages.

(http://freshmeat.net/users/pierrephilippecoupar/)
  Saturday, July 26th 2003 18:32

Communications :: Chat :: Internet Relay Chat
Communications :: Ham Radio

About: CWirc is a plugin for the X-Chat IRC client to transmit raw Morse
code over the internet using IRC servers as reflectors. The transmitted
Morse code can be received in near real-time by other X-Chat clients with
the CWirc plugin. CWirc tries to emulate a standard amateur radio rig: it
sends and receives Morse over virtual channels, and it can listen to
multiple senders transmitting on the same channel. Morse code is keyed
locally using a straight or iambic key connected to a serial port, or
using the mouse buttons, and the sound is played through the sound card,
or through an external sounder.

Changes: Support for an external sounder connected to a serial port has
been added, the documentation has been reorganized and corrected, and the
Makefile has been corrected to not produce an error on non-Debian boxes
when compiling the plugin.

Software Development :: Version Control
Software Development :: Version Control :: CVS

About: The Distributed Concurrent Versioning System (DCVS) extends the
well-known version control system CVS and the file distribution and
synchronization program CVSup with functionality to distribute CVS
repositories with local lines of development and handle synchronization of
the distributed repositories automatically in the background. Development
lines (branches) are owned by a repository server, repository servers
efficiently update each other via CVSup, and CVS ensures correct server
use on checkin and branch creation.

Changes: Import of CVS 1.12.1, import of current CVSup sources, secure
transport via ssh, an improved build system (simultaneous build support
for heterogenous platforms), test expect data, test diff automation, and
bugfixes.

[013] - Distributor load balancer 0.6.5
  by Jason Heiss (http://freshmeat.net/users/jheiss/)
  Saturday, July 26th 2003 13:33

About: Distributor is a software TCP load balancer. Like other load
balancers, it accepts connections and distributes them to an array of back
end servers. It is compatible with any standard TCP protocol (HTTP, LDAP,
IMAP, etc.) and is also IPv6 compatible. It has many unique and advanced
features and a high-performance architecture.

Changes: A fix was made for handling data that can't be immediately
transmitted to its destination, eliminating a potential source of hanging.
Things were fixed so that a target address can be specified as an IPv6
address. An option was added to allow TCP half close support to be turned
off.

Communications :: Email :: Filters
Security :: Cryptography

About: FirePay is an implementation of the HashCash/MIME
(application/postage-hashcash) specification. HashCash is an anti-spam,
anti-DoS system for email. The concept centers around the sender of the
mail completing a computationally expensive task (in this case, generating
hash collisions) that the recipient can verify very quickly. This allows
the sender to "pay" for transport in CPU cycles, creating artificial
scarcity. Programs are included to add payment to messages (for the
sender) and to verify message payment (for the recipient).

About: GNUstep is a set of general-purpose Objective-C libraries based on
the OpenStep standard developed by NeXT (now Apple) Inc. The libraries
consist of everything from foundation classes, such as dictionaries and
arrays, to GUI interface classes such as windows, sliders, buttons, etc.

Changes: A lot of work has gone to fix compilation on NetBSD and OpenBSD.
On Win32 the HOMEPATH environment variable is used in preference to
USERPROFILE in order to determine the user's home directory. GNUstep now
builds using the flat directory structure (--enable-flattened) by default.
Lots of NSUndoManager improvements were made. A new NSMessagePort

Security :: Cryptography

About: gpgdir is a Perl script that uses the CPAN GnuPG module to encrypt
and decrypt directories using a GPG key specified in ~/.gpgdirrc. It
supports recursively descending through a directory in order to make sure
it encrypts or decrypts every file in a directory and all of its
subdirectories. In order to help save space, all files can optionally be
compressed using gzip before encryption and decompressed upon decryption.
In addition, gpgdir is careful not to encrypt hidden files and

  by Eric Kow (http://freshmeat.net/users/kowey/)
  Saturday, July 26th 2003 13:04

About: Kowey-generic is a set of templates for easily packaging your
programming projects. These templates produce packages that the user
simply downloads and runs with no mess or fuss. For example, no CLASSPATH
nonsense is needed for Java programs. These templates also help Java
developers to adopt better coding habits by generating unit test skeletons
with JUnitDoclet. Kowey-generic can be extended for other languages
besides Java.

Changes: A rudimentary upgrade mechanism was created. This allows your
packages to be more easily upgraded to this and future versions of
kowey-generic.

[035] - mailbox_date_trimmer 1.0.1
  by Grzegorz Adam Hankiewicz (http://freshmeat.net/users/gradha/)
  Saturday, July 26th 2003 03:13

Communications :: Email

About: mailbox_date_trimmer is a tool for mailing list archives that
corrects messages' date headers if they are incorrect. Incorrect means
that a message following another has a time difference bigger than one
month, usually when the owner of the message had his clock misconfigured.
After fixing the archive, running Hypermail over the mailbox will create
correct discussion threads.

Changes: The documentation was improved and the stdin pipe detection hack
was removed. Many small date parsing errors were found and fixed after
running the program over 500 MB of mailing list archives.

  Saturday, July 26th 2003 10:15

Database
Software Development :: Libraries

About: psycopg is a PostgreSQL database adapter for the Python programming
language. Its main advantages are that it supports the full Python DBAPI
2.0 and it is thread safe at level 2. It was designed for heavily
multi-threaded applications that create and destroy lots of cursors and
make a conspicuous number of concurrent INSERTs or UPDATEs. The psycopg
distribution includes ZPsycopgDA, a Zope Database Adapter.

Changes: The execute method now accepts any object defining __getitem__,
not only dicts. Also, two new methods were added to the cursor object:
notifies to get a list of pending NOTIFY and fileno to make the cursor
useable as an argument to the standard select function.
