by mean99 (http://freshmeat.net/users/mean99/)
Saturday, September 27th 2003 01:28
Multimedia :: Video :: Non-Linear Editor
About: Avidemux is a graphical tool to edit video. It can open AVI, MPEG,
Nuppelvideo and BMPs. Most common codecs are supported (M-JPEG, MPEG,
DivX, Xvid, huffyuv, WMA, etc.) thanks to libavcodec. Video can be edited,
cut, appended, filtered (resize/crop/denoise), and re-encoded to either
AVI (DivX/Xvid) or MPEG 1/2.
Changes: This version includes a slightly modified version of mpeg2enc
that allows 2-pass SVCD encoding. The resize filters were redesigned to be
aware of aspect ratios, NTSC, and PAL. Multi-line subtitle display was
fixed.

Information Management
Information Management :: Records Management
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
About: ByteHoard is aimed at a wide range of audiences, from people
wanting a way to quickly access files from work/ school without carrying
physical media, to communities wanting a solution to store files. It's an
implementation of an online storage system whereby users can upload and
download their files from anywhere with an Internet connection. It aims
to be an easy solution, similar to projects like phpBB, where minimal
configuration is required. It uses a directory listing to list files,
which are all automatically compressed (gzipped) to save disk space.
It's coded with a skin function, so the theme can be easily changed, and
already has many useful features, including auto compression, integrated
signup/delete, upload, download, password change, etc.
Changes: There's now different file listing views, a more secure
upload/download system, a configuration frontend, and icons for files.
There's also a live demo online.

by Samuel Abels (http://freshmeat.net/users/knipknap/)
Saturday, September 27th 2003 01:25
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
About: Cantus is an easy to use tool for tagging and renaming MP3 and
OGG/Vorbis files. It has many features including mass tagging and renaming
of MP3s, the ability to generate a tag out of the filename, filter
definitions for renaming, recursive actions, CDDB (Freedb) lookup (no CD
needed), copy between ID3V1 and ID3V2 tags, and a lot more.
Changes: The queue displays now both ID3 and ID3v2 tags at once. Several
automake issues were fixed.

Software Development :: Compilers
About: ccache is a fast compiler cache. It is used as a front end to your
compiler to safely cache compilation output. When the same code is
compiled again the cached output is used giving a significant speedup
(typically 5x).
Changes: This version adds a CCACHE_UMASK option, adds support for
compilation of .i files, fixes a bug with the DEPENDENCIES_OUTPUT flag,
adds support for more -Mx options, adds a separate stderr channel for
distcc, and improves the test suite.

[008] - cpudyn 0.4.5
by gallir (http://freshmeat.net/users/gallir/)
Saturday, September 27th 2003 16:19
System :: Monitoring
About: cpudyn controls the speed in Intel SpeedStep, Pentium 4 Mobile, and
PowerPC machines with the cpufreq compiled in the kernel. It saves
battery, lowers temperature, and can put the computer disks in standby
mode if a given period has passed without any I/O operation. It works well
even with journaled file systems such as Ext3, XFS, or ReiserFS.
Changes: This release includes Nuno Ferreira's ACPI throttling patch,
which is useful for 2.4. The man page has been modified accordingly.
Defaults in check periods have been changed, so going from performance to
powersave is delayed by at least 4 seconds (sound is not always happy, but
that is not cpudyn's fault).

reject bulk mail. DCC servers can exchange common checksums. The checksums
include values that are "fuzzy", or constant across common variations in
bulk messages.

About: fauxident is a small Python script that will act as an extremely

response (either ERROR or USERID). This can be advantageous on systems
where running a true identd is unavailable, where it would be would be a
security risk, or when masquerading firewalls are in use, where multiple

has been designed around small DSP units that can be chained together to
operate on the sound data stream.
Changes: A new DelayExtraStereo DSP that applies a well-known stereo
expansion effect by delaying one of the two stereo channels has been
added. A new DeMultiplexer DSP that duplicates an input stream to several
output streams has been added. The bootstrapping process has been modified
to call autoheader before automake. config.h.in (generated by autoheader)
has been added to the list of files to delete when calling the
stripdown.py script.

Utilities
About: TkPhone is an application that allows you to record telephone
numbers in books, select the book you want to browse, select the name of a
person you want to call, and call that person's number, assuming you are
connected to a modem and you have the right permissions.
Changes: This release can be built running "configure" and "make", and
should be a little bit faster.

[072] - Whoson 2.03
by Xose (http://freshmeat.net/users/xose/)

Communications :: Email :: Filters
Communications :: Email :: Mail Transport Agents
About: Whoson (WHO iS ONline) is a proposed Internet protocol that allows
Internet server programs know if a particular (dynamically allocated) IP
address is currently allocated to a known (trusted) user and, optionally,
the identity of the said user. The protocol could be used by an SMTP
Message Transfer System in conjunction with anti-spam-relaying filters to
implement a scheme similar to the one described here to allow roaming
customers use their "home" SMTP server to submit email while connected
from a "foreign" network.
Changes: This is mostly a maintenance release. It fixes a memory leak in
the client API that happened if no servers were available, and includes a
few cleanups.

[073] - xCHM 0.8.3
by Razvan Cojocaru (http://freshmeat.net/users/thewhiterabbit/)
Saturday, September 27th 2003 08:34
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers
About: xCHM is a graphical CHM viewer for UNIX. It's based on CHMLIB and
written with wxGTK. It is able to display the topics tree, work with
displayed pages history, print the current page, work with bookmarks,
change fonts and fast search through all the pages of the loaded .chm
document. Being indirectly dependent on GTK+, the possibility of changing
GTK+ skins makes xCHM theme-friendly.
Changes: A nasty bug that prevented images with paths relative to the
parent page from displaying, and pages with paths relative to the
currently displayed page from displaying, has been fixed. Support has been
added for native font encodings where the chm requires it (e.g. displaying
Russian or Chinese fonts where required).
