[012] - bandwidthd 1.1.4
  by Drachs (http://freshmeat.net/users/drachs/)
  Tuesday, September 30th 2003 10:32

System :: Monitoring
System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: bandwidthd tracks usage of TCP/IP network subnets and builds HTML
files with graphs to display network utilization. Charts are built by
individual IP. It color codes HTTP, TCP,UDP, ICMP, VPN, and P2P traffic.
Unlike MRTG, it tracks each individual IP address, not the status of any
particular link. It is easy to install, low overhead, and has few
dependencies.

Changes: A totals graph has been added. Support has been added for Linux
cooked sockets, allowing the monitoring of many PPP interfaces and T1s.
CSV logging is much more useful, and now actually logs the throughput for
each interval, not the total accumulated so far. This release checks for
./htdocs and ./etc/bandwidthd.conf so new people don't get confused when
they don't run bandwidthd from its own directory. Zombies are reaped every
interval, not just when the program doesn't skip. The documentation is
updated. The makefile was broken, and could only compile under Solaris.

Communications :: Chat :: Internet Relay Chat
Communications :: Ham Radio

About: CWirc is a plugin for the X-Chat IRC client to transmit raw Morse
code over the internet using IRC servers as reflectors. The transmitted
Morse code can be received in near real-time by other X-Chat clients with
the CWirc plugin. CWirc tries to emulate a standard amateur radio rig: it
sends and receives Morse over virtual channels, and it can listen to
multiple senders transmitting on the same channel. Morse code is keyed
locally using a straight or iambic key connected to a serial port, or

[027] - CyberNeko HTML Parser 0.8.1
  by Andy Clark (http://freshmeat.net/users/andyc2/)
  Tuesday, September 30th 2003 15:27

Text Processing :: Markup :: HTML/XHTML
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML

About: NekoHTML is a simple HTML scanner and tag balancer that enables
Java application programmers to parse HTML documents and access the
information using standard XML interfaces. The parser can scan HTML files
and "fix up" many common mistakes that human (and computer) authors make
in writing HTML documents. NekoHTML is written using the Xerces Native
Interface (XNI) that is the foundation of the Xerces2 implementation. This
enables application programmers to use the NekoHTML parser with existing
XNI tools without modification or rewriting code.

Changes: A lot of bugs were fixed and features were added.

About: OIO is a Web-based metadata/data management front-end which is
built using Zope and works with Postgresql. No programming is required to
build and manage Web-forms or to perform data mining/analysis on the
collected data. It is in production at the Harbor/UCLA Medical Center for
clinical outcomes management and research data. Forms created with OIO and
hosted on any OIO server can be downloaded as XML files. Once downloaded
from the "Forms library" and imported into an OIO server, the necessary
database tables are automatically recreated and the imported forms become
immediately available to the users of that OIO server.

Changes: Numerous major enhancements including integration of scheduling

[070] - RTLab 0.65.2
  by Calin Culianu (http://freshmeat.net/users/cculianu/)
  Tuesday, September 30th 2003 23:09

Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Bioinformatics
Scientific/Engineering :: Medical Science Apps.

About: RTLab is an RTLinux/RTAI-based data acquisition and control
application. It is designed to help experimenters design and implement
their hard realtime control experiements using higher abstractions than
the services offered by RTAI or RTLinux. It is split into two parts. One
is a user-space series of C++ classes (written for Qt) which implement a
reference application called DAQSystem which is designed to acquire analog
input voltage data and display it on the screen. DAQSystem communicates
with rtlab.o, the realtime kernel module which is the second part of
RTLab. The rtlab.o realtime kernel part is a kernel module that loads into
RTLinux or RTAI and is responsible for driving COMEDI hardware for the
purposes of data acquisition and realtime control. The module is
extensible and features a 'plugin' architecture so that scientists who are
savvy C programmers can easily leverage the existing framework for their
own custom experiment logic. Experiment logic is specified by writing a
kernel modules that gets called back for each scan rtlab.o acquires from
the COMEDI hardware. In addition, data visualization and storage
facilities exist in user space so that experimenters can instantly see
graphical plots of their analog input data as it comes in from the
hardware.

Changes: This version adds three new plugins for effecting some simple
control experiments, makes the ~/.daq_system/ config.ini preferences file
machine-specific (with inherited defaults), so that NIS-based home
accounts don't have preferences files that clobber each other, optimizes
some of the graphing code, fixes gcc 3.2 compiler warnings, adds
install/uninstall to make system, moves all the plugins into a plugins/
directory, and makes adding new plugins easier.
