[002] - ale text editor 0.9.9-2
by jem (http://freshmeat.net/users/idiotstick/)
Wednesday, October 1st 2003 03:49
About: ale (Another Linux Editor) is a small, fast text editor with very
basic features. It is designed to edit or create config files or other
text based files. It supports long line lengths (65535 characters), and
the number of lines is limited only by the available memory. It has a
basic text search function, goto line, and other basic editing functions.
It is not intended to be an IDE or to parse regex expressions, but when
you need speed and low overhead.
Changes: This version adds the abort (Esc key) to prompts, and tab
completion to file prompts. It fixes the appending of text to the end of
a line, and the .tar.gz installer script.

Wednesday, October 1st 2003 11:24
Scientific/Engineering
About: Channelflow is a direct numerical simulator for incompressible
Navier-Stokes channel flow, written in C++. It simulates fluid flow in a
rectangular box, with no-slip boundary conditions on the upper and lower
surfaces of the box, and periodic boundary conditions in the stream and
spanwise directions. Channelflow uses a spectral discretization in spatial
directions (Fourier x Chebyshev x Fourier) and finite-differencing in
time, on primitive variables (3D velocity and pressure).

Wednesday, October 1st 2003 04:10
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Software Development :: Code Generators
About: CodeWorker is a scripting language for producing reusable,
tailor-made, evolving, and reliable IT systems with a high level of
automation. An extended BNF syntax allows the definition of new
domain-specific languages or parsing existing formats. A template-based
syntax like PHP and JSP allows the writing of patterns for generating
code. The code generation knows how to preserve protected areas with
hand-typed code and offers code expansion, source-to-source translation,
and program transformation. These tasks are executed in a straightforward
process, with no binding to an external programming language and with no
translation of requirements specification in a constraining format.
Changes: In this release a bugfix was corrected on recursive calls into a
foreach/select statement, which may have impacted the behavior of
first()/last() index functions. The function getOutputFilename() was
added, which returns the path of the file being generated via
generate()/translate()/etc. procedures.

lot of server bugs were fixed, including a server crashing bug, walking
dead animals, the "remote healing" spell allowing infinite use, with no
reagents cost, and many other smaller bugs. Now the creatures will attack
you if you poison them. Some of the Tab maps were updated, including more

About: FMPP is a text file preprocessor that uses FreeMarker templates to
provide macros, flow control, and expressions. It uses recursive directory
processing, so it can generate complete homepages (a tree of HTML files
and images). It is extendable in Java to display data from any data source
(such as a database). It is usable with a command-line interface, as an
Ant-task, or embedded into a Java application.
Changes: A later nightly FreeMarker 2.3 is now included, which is a more
effective superfluous-white-space killer. The significant fixed bugs are
problems with CVS file filtering sometimes bypassing CVS files, an
inability to use headers with templates that contain <#ftl ...>, and
confused pp.put/pp.set documentation. The significant new features are
temporary/backup file filtering and a <

both dockapps and GNOME 2 panel applets. The applet programmer doesn't
have to care about if the applet will be used on the Gnome panel or in the
dock. The library handles that. Over 50% of the code in a dockapp and a
GNOME 2 Panel applet does only one thing, setting up the applet window.
With GAI, this can be reduced to just a few lines of code.
Changes: This version now works nicely in WindowMaker. Applets can use
OpenGL. It also includes a few new library calls, a lot of new asserts to
help applet programmers, and some bugfixes.

System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
System :: Monitoring
About: gomd (General openMosix Daemon) is a daemon which gets information
from the nodes of an openMosix cluster. It has to run on every node in
order to collect data, and it waits to receive commands to execute. It
also includes a library with APIs for a number of programming languages
(C, C++, Perl, sh, Java), which allows easy development of clients who
need to get information from the cluster's nodes.
Changes: This is beta quality software, so bug reports are more than
welcome. However, it's supposed to be already usable.

Internet :: Name Service (DNS)
Software Development :: Libraries
About: GNU Libidn is an implementation of the Stringprep, Punycode, and
IDNA specifications defined by the IETF Internationalized Domain Names
(IDN) working group. It is used to prepare internationalized strings (such
as domain name labels, usernames, and passwords) in order to increase the
likelihood that string input and string comparison work in ways that make
sense for typical users throughout the world. The library contains a
generic Stringprep implementation that does Unicode 3.2 NFKC
normalization, mapping and prohibition of characters, and bidirectional
character handling. Profiles for iSCSI, Kerberos 5, Nameprep, SASL, and
XMPP are included. Punycode and ASCII Compatible Encoding (ACE) via IDNA
are supported.
Changes: Zero-length root label handling was fixed in ToASCII. Hangul
Syllable support and other Unicode NFKC fixes were made. The self tests
have been improved, and are based on IDNConnect. The Emacs Lisp interface
now sets the UseSTD3ASCIIRules flag.

[035] - gpgdir 0.3
by Michael Rash (http://freshmeat.net/users/michaelrash/)
Wednesday, October 1st 2003 01:12
Security :: Cryptography
About: gpgdir is a Perl script that uses the CPAN GnuPG module to encrypt
and decrypt directories using a GPG key specified in ~/.gpgdirrc. It
supports recursively descending through a directory in order to make sure
it encrypts or decrypts every file in a directory and all of its
subdirectories. In order to help save space, all files can optionally be
compressed using gzip before encryption and decompressed upon decryption.
In addition, gpgdir is careful not to encrypt hidden files and
directories.
Changes: This release bundles the GnuPG and TermReadKey Perl modules with
gpgdir, and modifies gpgdir to use these modules out of /usr/lib/gpgdir
to preserve the system Perl tree. It also adds check_commands() to verify
system binary locations.

[042] - ipsvd 0.6.0
by Gerrit Pape (http://freshmeat.net/users/pape/)
Wednesday, October 1st 2003 04:19
System :: Networking
About: ipsvd is a set of "Internet protocol service daemons". It includes
daemons for TCP/IP and UDP/IP. An Internet protocol service (ipsv) daemon
waits for incoming connections on a socket, and for new connections, it
conditionally runs an arbitrary program to handle the connection. ipsv
daemons can be told to read and follow pre-defined instructions on how to
handle incoming connections. Based on the client's IP address or hostname,
it's possible to run different programs, set a different environment, deny
a connection, or set a per host concurrency limit. ipsvd can be used to
run services usually run by inetd, xinetd, or tcpserver. Normally the ipsv
daemons are run by a supervisor process, such as runsv from the runit
package, or supervise from the daemontools package.
Changes: With this version the ipsv daemons support the port to listen on
to be specified either as a name from /etc/services, or as a number. The
ipsvd interface now necessitates the -u command line option, and the
documentation has been enhanced slightly.

[066] - pop3spam 0.2
by Michael Velten (http://freshmeat.net/users/michaelvelten/)
Wednesday, October 1st 2003 08:15
Communications :: Email :: Filters
Communications :: Email :: Post-Office :: POP3
About: pop3spam is a POP3 client which connects to a POP3 server and
deletes unsolicited mail. It's possible to check for messages that exceed
a certain limit and to scan header lines for special patterns (regular
expressions). If a message has been identified as unsolicited, it can be
deleted directly from the POP3 server without the need to download it
first. Eventually your normal mail-retrieval utility (e.g. fetchmail) can
gather all (cleaned) mail as usual.
Changes: A new option was added which indicates whether there are still
any messages on the server after program execution. This is useful to let
your mail-retrieval utility (e.g. fetchmail) run only if there are
actually any messages to fetch. The rest are minor changes.

[083] - The SpamBouncer 1.7
by Matt Christian (http://freshmeat.net/users/boogie/)
Wednesday, October 1st 2003 03:46
Communications :: Email :: Filters
About: The SpamBouncer is a set of procmail instructions that search the
headers and text of your incoming email to see if it meets one or more of
a list of conditions for probable spam. It will then either tag the
suspected spam and return it to your main incoming mailbox, tag the
suspected spam, delete spam from known spam sources, and file suspected
spam in a separate folder, send a simulated MAILER-DAEMON daemon
"bounce", complain to the "upstream providers" of known spammers or spam
sites/domains, etc.
Changes: In this version, scoring now weighs "hits" on different
criteria, and adds those weights together to determine whether to treat
email as definitely spam, as suspicious, or as non-spam. The OsiruSoft
blacklists, including SPEWS, are down and have been disabled. The NJABL
dial-up and open proxies blocklists have been enabled by default.
Scanning for scripts and embedded IFRAME tags can now be disabled. The

Multimedia :: Graphics
Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization
Software Development :: Libraries
About: vtkFLTK is a small C++ class library easing development of FLTK
event-driven interfaces for use with VTK. It allows composition of complex
graphical interfaces to complex visualization facilities by bridging
disparities between FLTK and VTK event and windowing system handling. It
eschews the use of C++ multiple inheritance as is consistent with the
designs of both VTK and FLTK. A specialized VTK ObjectFactory is
registered during static initialization of vtkFLTK's Fl_Gl_Window
subclass, which ensures transparent instantiation of its RenderWindow and
Interactor subclasses. In other words, most application code can be fully
agnostic of anything other than VTK's standard RenderWindow and Interactor
classes.
Changes: This release corrects incompatibilities with the OpenGL context
handling introduced with FLTK 1.1.4. Major attention has also been paid to
tweaking updates to the display connection as well as syncronization with
VTK. Most, if not all, system-dependent types have been eliminated from
the public interface.
