[011] - cgipaf 1.2.3 (Stable)
  by staf (http://freshmeat.net/users/stafwag/)
  Thursday, October 9th 2003 11:52

Communications :: Email

About: cgipaf is a combination of three CGI programs. passwd.cgi, which
allow users to update their password, viewmailcfg.cgi, which allows users
to view their current mail configuration, and mailcfg.cgi, which updates
the mail configuration. All programs use PAM for user authentication. It
is possible to run a script to update SAMBA passwords or NIS configuration
when a password is changed. mailcfg.cgi creates a .procmailrc in the
user's home directory. A user with too many invalid logins can be locked.
The minimum and maximum UID can be set in the configuration file, so you
can specify a range of UIDs that are allowed to use cgipaf.

Changes: The email forwarding method has been modified to avoid email
looping. configure has been improved to support newer versions of gdbm and
Berkeley db.

  Thursday, October 9th 2003 20:56

Software Development :: Version Control
Software Development :: Version Control :: CVS

About: cvsweb is a visual (www) interface to explore a CVS repository.
This is an enhanced cvsweb developed by Henner Zeller. Enhancements
include recognition and display of popular mime-types, visual,
color-coded, side by side diffs of changes and the ability sort the file
display and to hide old files from view. One living example of the
enhanced cvsweb is the KDE cvsweb. cvsweb requires the server to have CVS
and a CVS repository worth exploring.

Changes: HTML quality was much improved. Visual and accessibility
improvements were made. Graphical revision views using CvsGraph were
added. Source and diff syntax highlighting was added by using GNU
Enscript. mod_perl 2 support was added. Directories with lots of files can
now be handled. A case insensitive sorting option was added for
directories. The option to display line numbers in source views was added.
MIME type discovery and support for binary files were improved. Support
for (X)Emacs-style human readable diffs was added by using String::Ediff.
Apache FancyIndex-style README.cvs(.html) can now be shown in dir views.

  Thursday, October 9th 2003 11:45

Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
Utilities

About: Finomaton allows users comfortably draw and typeset finite state
machines (automata). The resulting graphs can be exported to plain
MetaPost and subsequently be included in TeX and LaTeX documents for
excellent typesetting quality. Contrary to many other packages, the
mouse can be used to interactively move objects around. States are
magnetic to facilitate connection, and any TeX command can be embedded in
the labels of states and lines.

Changes: A batch mode was added to convert a set of files
non-interactively. The main canvas is now scrollable. A comment, the
author's name, and verbatim TeX commands can be added to files. The length
and breadth of MetaPost arrowheads can now be adjusted. Mouse coordinates
are displayed on-screen, selection handling has been improved, and the
MetaPost export file name is now remembered. No more redundant data is
saved or exported, and some smaller corrections and improvements were
implemented.

[032] - Gnumeric 1.2.1 (Stable)
  by J.H.M. Dassen (Ray) (http://freshmeat.net/users/jdassen/)
  Thursday, October 9th 2003 08:02

Desktop Environment :: Gnome

About: Gnumeric is a powerful and easy to use spreadsheet using GNOME. Its
goal is to provide a full featured spreadsheet and a smooth migration path
for people and organizations currently using proprietary applications. It
provides more sheet functions and greatly improved accuracy when compared
to Microsoft's Excel. A plugin system lets you extend Gnumeric, adding
functions, I/O formats, and real time data capabilities. The existing
Python, Guile, and Perl plugins let you define complex functions. Gnumeric
is capable of reading and writing MS Excel, and reading Lotus, Applix,
Quattro Pro, OpenCalc, XBase, DIF, SYLK, HTML, Psion, MPS, oleo, sc, misc.
text formats, and its native XML. It can also generate Latex, HTML, and
others.

Changes: Numerous minor changes were made. Ancient XLS files can now be
imported. A standalone converter binary, called "ssconvert", was added.

  Thursday, October 9th 2003 14:19

Communications :: File Sharing
Security :: Cryptography
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks

About: GNUnet is a peer-to-peer framework with focus on providing
security. All peer-to-peer messages in the network are confidential and
authenticated. The framework provides a transport abstraction layer and
can currently encapsulate the network traffic in UDP (IPv4 and IPv6), TCP
(IPv4 and IPv6), HTTP, or SMTP messages. GNUnet supports accounting to
provide contributing nodes with better service. The primary service build
on top of the framework is anonymous file sharing.

Changes: This release fixes problems with the TCP transport that would
occasionally hang or abort the GNUnet daemon. It also resolves database
corruption problems with the gnunet-convert and gnunet-check tools.
Finally, a long-standing performance problem with the BSD and Solaris
ports was resolved.

About: Goanseech is a spinoff of the leverlada IRC leech script. One of
its core parts was extracted and remade into a standalone server. This
server holds information about the basic pattern that specifies the base
name of a TV series, which episodes were already fetched, and the maximum
number of episodes. There are several clients, including a script that
parses Web pages for Bittorrent links, matches them against the
information on the series server, and controls a user-defined number of
Bittorrent clients for retrieval. There is also a directory watcher which
scans a given set of directories and updates the series server with newly
found files.

Changes: This version features a new GTK 2 client with enhanced
functionalities. The series client has been enhanced to cope with more
complex cases.

Software Development :: Assemblers

About: KMD is a multi-processor debugger. It can debug with hardware
boards over serial ports or with software emulators (ARM and MIPS
emulators are included in the project). Using the pipe option you can
debug over the network or any other communication medium. It can load many
executable formats such as ELF, and display and follow the original source
even from multiple source file programs. There is support for breakpoints
and watchpoints which can trap on specific data (such as loading or
executing specific instructions). Support for other features such as
FPGA's is also available, allowing loading or any control required to
drive a specific hardware device. The project uses chump to allow
disassembly and line assembly. Chump also allows new architectures to be
easily added without the need to recompile the system. Communication with
the backend is done using two pipes/fifos using a simple set of codes.
Back end communication program can be created using very little memory on
the target device.

Changes: The option of using chump to compile a source file and then load
it has been added. Chump can now handle some symbol generation such as
labels. Currently only first pass has been implemented, so forward label
reference is not yet possible. A big revamp of the user interface,
especially in simple mode, has been applied, as well as keeping the file
list from a previous session.

About: NanoBlogger is a small Weblog engine written in bash. It creates
static HTML content and features command line based editing and management
of entries, customizable templates, monthly archiving, permalinks, and RSS
syndication. It's intended to be modular and flexible in design and easy
to integrate into existing Web sites. It doesn't require any use of
JavaScript, server-side scripting, or server-side includes.

Changes: This release fixes a bug in the archiving code that would skip a
monthly archive that shared the same month of another year. It features
many enhancements to the command line interface, including a new "--file"
option to load the contents of a file into a new blog entry. It also
features many 'sed' command enhancements for better Unix compatibility.

[059] - ObjectKitchen 0.7.2
  by Kasper J. Jeppesen (http://freshmeat.net/users/kapper/)
  Thursday, October 9th 2003 04:24

Database :: Database Engines/Servers

About: Objectkitchen is small object-oriented database written in Java. It
is currently only usable from PHP, but libraries for other languages (Ruby
and Java) are currently being written. You use objectkitchen to store your
data in objects, with relations to other objects handled simply by setting
the value of an instance variable to another object. Objectkitchen is
currently tuned to handle many requests to small datasets, such as those
found in most Web sites.

Changes: A boolean data type was added and several bugs in the list
object were fixed. A new getBulkList method was also implemented, which
provides a major performance boost when a large number of attributes are
used on all objects in a list.
