[002] - AntiRight Desktop Environment 1.95
  by Jeffrey Bedard (http://freshmeat.net/users/jefbed/)
  Saturday, October 11th 2003 01:39

Desktop Environment

About: AntiRight is a lightweight desktop environment. The software
consists of a text editor, a clock, a graphical pager, a sticky note
applet, an Internet dialer interface, a file manager, a calculator, a
shell command launcher, a help system, a backdrop selector, an email and
Web browser launcher, a theme selector, a security control panel, an xhost
controller, a disk utility panel, and a CD player.

Changes: A new load meter, antiload, was added, and the load meter was
removed from the clock. File->Open was been added back into the panel
along with a new row consisting of a mail launcher, a terminal launcher,
and a load meter launcher. A day and night display was added to
anticlock, and description-pak is now generated from a template. More
checking is performed in antirght_strcat. A DEBUG macro was added, and
all session setup is now handled by AR.

[003] - Bifrost Firewall iptables GUI 0.9.6
  by Martin Forest (http://freshmeat.net/users/mforest/)
  Saturday, October 11th 2003 01:48

Internet
Security
System :: Networking

About: Bifrost is a firewall management interface to iptables (iptables
GUI). The system is inspired by Checkpoint, Cisco PIX, and Watchguard
firewall management. With Bifrost you are able to work with incoming and
outgoing traffic flows rather than focusing on interfaces. The system
supports both IPSEC and High Availability. It is even possible to manage
HA from the GUI. Bifrost has an advanced anti-spoofing function. There is
also a very easy-to-use log watch function where you can apply filtering.
Logging is controlled per rule. You can turn on/off logging for a rule on
the fly, and there is built-in protection against log flooding. All
firewall changes are made without interrupt already established
connections. There is also support for traffic marking (mangle), very
useful when you are working with QOS (bandwidth management) and advance
routing such as policy-based routing. If you for some reason need
something extra, it is possible to add your own commands.

Changes: Hide NAT is now performed after source NAT, making it possible
to configure specific source NAT and use hide NAT as a "catch the rest".
The license function was updated to prevent lock downs when a license
expires.

[005] - CodeWorker 3.0

  Saturday, October 11th 2003 11:31

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Software Development :: Code Generators

About: CodeWorker is a scripting language for producing reusable,
tailor-made, evolving, and reliable IT systems with a high level of
automation. An extended BNF syntax allows the definition of new
domain-specific languages or parsing existing formats. A template-based
syntax like PHP and JSP allows the writing of patterns for generating
code. The code generation knows how to preserve protected areas with
hand-typed code and offers code expansion, source-to-source translation,
and program transformation. These tasks are executed in a straightforward
process, with no binding to an external programming language and with no
translation of requirements specification in a constraining format.

Changes: A new fundamental feature was added: the language can be extended
via packages implemented in executable modules (dynamic libraries), like
in Tcl or other scripting languages. Now you can integrate your own
functions or interface layers to work with databases or any other gluing
requirements. The functions 'appendFile()' and 'composeSQLLikeString()'
were added.

  Saturday, October 11th 2003 13:29

Internet :: Name Service (DNS)

About: Dnsmasq is lightweight, easy to configure DNS forwarder designed to
provide DNS (domain name) services to a small network where using BIND
would be overkill. It can have its upstream DNS servers automatically
configured by PPP or DHCP, and it can serve the names of local machines
which are not in the global DNS. It can integrate with the ISC DHCP daemon
to serve the names of local machines which are configured using DHCP.
Dnsmasq is ideal for networks behind NAT routers and connected via modem,
ISDN, ADSL, or cable-modem connections.

Changes: This fixes a crash/lockup bug present in versions 1.14, 1.15, and
1.16. All users of those versions who use the DHCP facilities of dnsmasq
should upgrade.

About: HTTrack is an easy-to-use offline browser utility. It allows you to
download a Web site from the Internet to a local directory, building
recursively all directories, getting HTML, images, and other files from
the server to your computer. HTTrack arranges the original site's relative
link-structure. Simply open a page of the mirrored Web site in your
browser, and you can browse the site from link to link, as if you were
viewing it online. HTTrack can also update an existing mirrored site, and
resume interrupted downloads. WebHTTrack is a Web-based GUI for HTTrack.

Changes: This release features URL hacks, MHT archives, charset
propagation, external C .so callbacks, and many bugfixes, especially in
parsing and JavaScript parsing.

  Saturday, October 11th 2003 01:38

Office/Business
Printing

About: KBarcode is a barcode and label printing application for KDE 3. It
can be used to print everything from simple business cards up to complex
labels with several barcodes, such as article descriptions. KBarcode comes
with an easy-to-use WYSIWYG label designer, a setup wizard, batch import
of labels (directly from the delivery note), thousands of predefined
labels, database managment tools, and translations in many languages. Even
printing more than 10,000 labels in one go is no problem for KBarcode.
Additionally, it is a simple xbarcode replacement for the creation of
barcodes. All major types of barcodes like EAN, UPC, CODE39, and ISBN are
supported.

Changes: Copy and paste now works. Speed improvements were made, and
support for PostgreSQL and SQLite was added (ODBC should work, too). A
1200dpi printing mode was added, and support for escape sequences, text
above barcodes, and check digits was added to TBarcode. API documentation
was included and support for barcode sequences was added. [resolution],
[index], and [page] keywords were implemented, and advanced settings
were added for every barcode. Multi-selection support was added to the
label editor, which now shows data fields dynamically.

  Saturday, October 11th 2003 01:51

Software Development :: Libraries
System :: Installation/Setup
System :: Software Distribution

About: Luau provides a backbone for disseminating software updates
throughout a software project's userbase. It differs from other
autoupdate solutions (eg. apt, Red Hat Network) in that it works on a
decentralized basis - developers provide an "updates" file describing all
 currently available updates which is then downloaded and interpreted by
the client. It is also more flexible in that individual developers can
distribute not only software updates but messages throughout the
userbase, which can be used to inform users of important security
updates, new software roadmaps, or anything else the developer thinks is
important for users of the software package. Also provided is an X
front-end (called 'luau-x') and a console based front-end (called 'luau')
that allow the user to check for and download or install updates for all
supported software.

Changes: The luau-x interface was vastly improved by allowing the user to
see the number of available updates from the main window instead of
having to check each program individually. The console client now also
supports an interactive mode. A number of minor bugs were also fixed.

  Saturday, October 11th 2003 08:46

Internet :: Name Service (DNS)

About: pdnsd is a Proxy DNS server for Linux and FreeBSD that is designed
to cope with unreacheable nameservers (e.g. because the dial-in link is
not up) in a graceful manner to prevent DNS-dependent applications like
Netscape from hanging. It has a permanent disk cache and supports parallel
query and a wide variety of link uptests. It also has the ability to serve
some local records.

Changes: This release includes an emulation of the "delegation-only"
feature recently introduced in BIND, which can be useful for undoing the
undesired effects of DNS "wildcards". The parser for the configuration
file now tolerates domain names missing a dot at the end. In an effort to
make the code more portable, alternative implementations for some GNU
extensions have been provided. In particular, the code should build on
FreeBSD again. Some minor bugfixes have been made.

  by Lukas Ertl (http://freshmeat.net/users/lertl/)
  Saturday, October 11th 2003 08:46

About: swiggle is le's simple web image gallery generator. It is a small
commandline tool that generates HTML pages, including thumbnail indexes,
for given images. It's intended to be easy to use, and since it is written
in C, it's quite speedy. It uses libjpeg for decompression and compression
of images, libexif for getting EXIF information contained in the images,
and it caches scaled images so that subsequent runs don't need to scale
images again and are faster. Of course, the original images aren't
changed. Currently, it processes only JPEG images, and it's thought to be
used primarily with images taken with digital cameras.

Changes: This release is a code cleanup that hopefully fixes segfaults on
Linux.

[060] - Ultra-Performance UDPForwarder 4.1
  by ocr.D-Link*Aiwa (http://freshmeat.net/users/Aiwa/)
  Saturday, October 11th 2003 08:47

Games/Entertainment
Internet :: Proxy Servers

About: UDPForwarder listens on multiple ports to forward incoming UDP
datagrams from clients to the corresponding server and forwards the
server's response back to the client. This works 100% transparently, so
clients think they are talking to the forwarder and the server does not
notice the clients' real IP. It was initially designed to work as a
transparent relay for online game traffic (static routing). It might be
useful for hiding IPs or tricking firewalls. Its motivation and advantage
over existing tools is its uncompromising focus on performance, which is
crucial when dealing with hundreds and thousands of datagrams per second
without allowing any rise in response time.

Changes: Events are now timestamped in verbose mode, runtime and memory
optimizations have been made, and the code has been cleaned.

Text Processing :: General
Utilities

About: Unique ID is a Perl CGI that calculates and reverse engineers
driver's license numbers. Given your name, birthday and gender, it will
tell you your license number. Given the number it will tell you your
birthday, gender, and take educated guesses at your name. It currently
supports Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire,
Washington, and Wisconsin. It's likely that similar systems are used in
other states.

Changes: This version adds preliminary support for Maryland, Michigan,
and Minnesota driver's license number encoding (they all use the same
system), and fixes a bug in the Washington state algorithm for birth
dates on the 26th of a month.

  Saturday, October 11th 2003 01:50

Communications

About: Womcat Bookmarks is a program that maintains Web bookmarks in a set
of hierarchical folders. It can output the bookmarks as an HTML page and
as an RSS 2.0 file which can be placed on a Web site. The RSS file maps
folder names into the "category" element. Womcat Bookmarks can download

database of web bookmarks that can be browsed by subject. It supports RSS
discovery by allowing posting RSS file URL's as new items. It also acts as
a basic RSS feed reader.

Changes: This release added weak subscriptions, which are a subscription
made to a page that changes often and is likely to contain interesting
URLs, such as the front page of someone's blog.

[066] - xcplay 0.3.4
  by Eivind Magnus Hvidevold (http://freshmeat.net/users/emh/)
  Saturday, October 11th 2003 19:21

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Players

About: xcplay is an ncurses interface to XMMS. The UI is a clone of cplay,
but using XMMS as a backend instead of console players, running either as
a GUI-stripped daemon or on a virtual X server (Xvfb). Advantages over
cplay include seeking for many more formats, detachment, unlimited
instances, and console player independence.

Changes: In this version, XMMS now continues playing the current song
after sorting/shuffling playlist. The random shuffle now seeds on time.
There is a command line option to save the current playlist. Keys for
moving song up or down in playlist, moving current song to top of
playlist, and for toggling playlist filename/title/path view were added.
