Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation
Terminals :: Terminal Emulators/X Terminals

About: LibVNCServer is a library which makes it easy to make a VNC server,
i.e. a server for vncviewers. All you do is provide a frame buffer and
some I/O functions, and call a function each time the frame buffer
changes. It supports all encodings known, including tight, zlib, ZRLE, and
cursor encodings. It also includes the HTTP server known from Xvnc, so you
can start a java viewer by surfing to http://my.vnc.server:5801 or
similar. It includes x11vnc, a WinVNC lookalike much like x0rfbserver or
KRFB, which makes it possible to view existing X sessions via vncviewer.
Also included is LinuxVNC, which is to the Linux console as WinVNC is to
the Windows desktop.

Changes: This release changes ZRLE encoding from C++ to C so that C++ is
no longer necessary. There are many x11vnc changes (it's now even faster)
and compatibility updates (less name clashes with other libraries). An
alpha LibVNCClient and CARD8 and friends have been added. This release has
converted to POSIX uint8_t and friends. LinuxVNC, a Linux console
exporter, has been added. There are many bugfixes.

[029] - Lightweight Neural Network 0.7

  Sunday, October 26th 2003 18:36

Scientific/Engineering :: Artificial Intelligence
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
Software Development :: Libraries

About: Lightweight Neural Network is a lightweight implementation in C of
a backpropagation neural network. It is intended for use in programs that
just happen to need a simple neural network and do not want to incorporate
a needlessly complex neural network library. It features multilayer
backpropagation neural network with settable momentum and learning rate,
easy portability, and small size. Included is an example application that
trains a neural network to recognize handwritten digits.

Changes: This release adds support for batch training.

About: MP3 Automagic CD Cover Creator (MACCC) creates printable CD covers
(inserts, frontcards, traycards, etc.) for MP3 CDs (front and back for
full-size cases, front-only for slimline). These covers are great for use
with in-dash car MP3 CD players. The covers it outputs are in CDInsert
format, CDRLabel format, HTML, and .txt format.

Changes: In this version, the splash screen is optional, the HTML output
was tweaked, and the GUI to write the covers was greatly improved. A
bitrate option for MP3s was added, icons were added and adjusted, and the
menu bar was improved.

[031] - Make CD-ROM Recovery 0.7.5
  by Gratien D'haese (http://freshmeat.net/users/gdha/)
  Sunday, October 26th 2003 12:14

System :: Archiving :: Backup
System :: Archiving :: Compression
System :: Installation/Setup

About: mkCDrec (Make CD-ROM Recovery) makes a bootable (El Torito)
disaster recovery image, including backups of the Linux system to one or
more CD-ROM(s) (multi-volume sets). Otherwise, the backups can be stored
on another disk, NFS disk, or (remote) tape. After a disk crash or system
intrusion, the system can be booted from the CD-ROM and one can restore
the complete system as it was. It also features disk cloning, which allows
one to restore a disk to another disk (the destination disk does not have
to be of the same size, as it calculates the partition layout itself).
Currently, ext2, ext3, minix, MS-DOS, FAT, VFAT, Reiserfs, XFS, and JFS
filesystems are supported. mkCdrec is also able to restore disks in
Software RAID and LVM mode.

Changes: The compile error with cutstream on older gcc versions has been
fixed. Mandrake out-of-the-box kernels will work better. LVM 2.x will be
recognised on Conectiva systems. Links have been integrated for the new
mkcdrec utilities, e.g. Clam Antivirus.

[034] - Minimalist Queue Services 0.0.7
  by Alexandre Dulaunoy (http://freshmeat.net/users/adulau/)
  Sunday, October 26th 2003 12:28

Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Object Brokering

About: MQS (Minimalist Queue Services) is a minimalist queueing system
that provides a set of basic methods in order to offer asynchronous
messaging for program/application. Applications can use this type of
services in order to store and retrieve messages to a dedicated queue in
the queue services. This allows you to avoid direct connection between
applications and provides a simple asynchronous communication system. It
provides a simple set of XML-RPC methods for pushing and getting messages
in a specific queue (so you can use the system with any application that
can talk XML-RPC). The queues are stored in a database (e.g., MySQL) or in
dedicated files.

Changes: This release adds a new experimental storage method (QDBM) in
addition to MySQL. There are various fixes in the documentation and
software, and some tests and fixes related to speed.
