the 'autoaccept' file. It also allows filters based on regular expressions
which match against the email headers. (If a message is filtered, only the
header is downloaded, not the entire body.) Combining external filtering
programs (e.g. SpamAssassin or Bogofilter) as message post-download
plugins is also easily acomplished, thus extending filtering capabilities
in an unlimited way. Available delivery options include mailbox, maildir,
local SMTP, and pipe to a command.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Interpreters
Software Development :: Libraries :: Python Modules

About: EmPy is a system for embedding Python expressions and statements in
template text. It takes an EmPy source file, processes it, and produces
output. This is accomplished via expansions, which are special signals to
the EmPy system and are set off by a special prefix (by default the at
sign, ''). It can expand arbitrary Python expressions and statements in
this way, as well as a variety of special forms. Textual data not
explicitly delimited in this way is sent unaffected to the output,
allowing Python to be used in effect as a markup language. Also supported
are callbacks via hooks, recording and playback via diversions, and
dynamic, chainable filters. The system is highly configurable via command
line options and embedded commands.

Changes: The separate pseudo-module instance was removed for greater
transparency, and its 'interpreter' attribute was deprecated. The
auxiliary class name attributes associated with the pseudo-module were
also deprecated in preparation for a separate support library.
--no-callback-error and --no-bangpath-processing command line options
were added along with an 'atToken' hook.

About: ICPLD (Internet Connection Performance Logging Daemon) is a daemon
which, by sending ICMP requests to an IP address of your choice, monitors

keeps track of when the connection was unavailable, as well as for how
long. It records both total down time and each occasion of interrupted
connection. The log can also be duplicated in HTML format to put online.

Internet
Security
System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: Ipfreeze is a program that listens to the netlink device. It takes
the source address from every incoming packet and adds it to a Netfilter
"blacklist" chain. The address is removed from this chain after a
user-definable period of time. This allows you to create rules that detect
and halt certain odd behaviors, such as ports scans, syn floods, or
connection attempts on forbidden ports. The attacker's IP address is
blacklisted using the QUEUE target. There is also a whitelist where you
can declare hosts that you never want to be blacklisted.

Changes: You can now define the new rule's target in the blacklist chain.
Depending on how you compiled your kernel, it is possible to choose a
target such as DROP, TARPIT, or MIRROR for the blacklisted hosts.

System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: MAT is an easy-to-use network-enabled UNIX configuration and
monitoring tool. It provides an integrated tool for many common system
administration tasks, including backups, replication, and running commands
on hundreds of machines at once. It includes a warning system for
potential system problems, and graphing of many common system parameters.
MAT provides many of the tools a system administrator needs during the
day, including DNS, NIS, Backups, and Replication. One can run a MAT
command on many hosts at once. A simple editor window is provided which
can modify a set of machine's configurations in one session.

Changes: Internal passwords now use MD5. Console updates are now 5 times
faster. The cluster status code has been reworked, and numerous bugs have
been fixed. The discovery of hosts which don't have DNS entries and some
file manager bugs have been fixed.

System :: Monitoring

About: Monit is a utility for managing and monitoring processes, files,
directories, and devices on a Unix system. It conducts automatic
maintenance and repair and can execute meaningful causal actions in error
situations. It can be used to monitor files, directories, and devices for
changes, such as timestamps changes, checksum changes, or size changes. It
is controlled via an easy to configure control file based on a
free-format, token-oriented syntax. It logs to syslog or to its own log
file and notifies users about error conditions via customizable alert
messages. It can perform various TCP/IP network checks, protocol checks,
and can utilize SSL for such checks. It provides an HTTP(S) interface for
access.

Changes: This is a feature and bugfix release. The most important changes
in this release are the availability of a remote host ping test, a general
protocol test based on send/expect strings, alert limitation, and a remote
checksum test.

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Writing

About: Music Manager is a Konqueror plugin that lets you standardize the
filenames of your music files, guess information and set ID3 tags from the
file's name (this can be done to several files in one shot), rename many
selected files based on their ID3 tags, set ID3 tags in mass for selected
files with options for copying ID3s from other files and leaving some ID3
fields untouched, rename _ to space and vice versa, create HTML and text
indexes of your collections (including total playing time, etc.,
configurable through templates), create nice CD covers with full listings
of your music files (also configurable through templates), and organize
your music collection to create a CD.

Changes: A crash bug which occurred when indexing filenames with '?' or
'#' chars was fixed. A crash bug that ocurred when exiting konqueror due
to repeated menu destruction was fixed. A filelist sorting bug that
generated wrong indexes was corrected. The advanced tagging dialog now
closes itself. An effort for written configuration in
~/.kde/share/config/musicman was started. A KDE Control Module was
started. A guitar icon was included.

About: Nautilus-thumbnailers provides scripts that generate thumbnails
for several file formats commonly used in the GNOME environment. When
used with the Nautilus file manager, for example, icons for PDF files
will present the same appearance as the document itself. This has long
been the case with images, but this package extends this technique to

About: NeoStats provides unique services to IRC via loadable modules. It
does not provide the traditional NickServ/ChanServ services, but instead
provides services like "HostServ", which can automatically set a user's
virtual host upon logging onto a IRC network, or "StatServ", which can
provide detailed statistics about the network, individual servers, or
channels, and produce an HTML page. It also includes a number of "Fun"
services, like "LoveServ" and "MoraleServ". Additional modules are
available via the NeoStats Web site or through third party developers.
Currently, NeoStats supports UnrealIRCd, UltimateIRCD, Hybrid7, Bahamut,
MysticIRCd, QuantumIRCd, and NeoIRCd, with more IRCD support being
developed.

Changes: This release addressed a potential security problem with the

IP traffic other than DNS isn't possible.

Changes: Large parts of the program were rewritten and enhanced. The

System :: Operating System
System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions

About: Source Mage is a source-based GNU/Linux distribution based on a
Sorcery metaphor of "casting" and "dispelling" programs, which are
referred to as "spells".

Changes: The biggest change is that devfs is now used on /dev. All the
changes necessary for using devfs have been made and tested. sorcery is
upgraded to version 1.4. Mount points for CDROM and floppy drive now exist
by default. Drivers for several ADSL modems have been added (in source
form only).

[093] - squidefender 1.3
  by jnieuwen (http://freshmeat.net/users/jnieuwen/)
  Monday, October 27th 2003 11:36

System :: Monitoring

About: Squidefender is a Perl script which analyzes a squid log file in
native format to detect attacks. If it finds an attack, it sends a
complaint email to the ISP of the attacker. It also has the option to
execute an external command to take other actions. This can be used to
automatically adapt your firewall when an attack has occured. The power of
squidefender lies in its configuration options, which let you easily add
new attacks to scan for. Another interesting option of squidefender is its
ability to use different message templates based on the attack found.

Changes: Abuse addresses are now first looked up in the abuse.net database
instead of using whois lookups. The timezone of the sender is
automatically added to the message of the sender. A rate control system
was introduced which limits the amount of complaints send to an ISP about
an IP address. IPs can now be blocked for a specified time based on the
pattern.

[094] - STUBS and Franki/Earlgrey Linux 0.4.3pre1 (STUBS Configurations)
  by William Towle (http://freshmeat.net/users/etwills/)
  Monday, October 27th 2003 05:45

System :: Operating System
System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions
System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions :: CD-Based

About: Franki and Earlgrey Linux are proof-of-concept Linux distributions
for small and embedded-class systems whose configuration is controlled by
a loosely-knit suite of scripts designed to produce utility toolchains,
known as STUBS. STUBS (the Toolchain and Utility Build Suite) is driven by
an easily-tailored set of configuration files and acquires the requisite
sources by download. Subject to runtime dependencies, it is capable of
working within the Franki Linux environment.

Changes: This configurations release updates or adds elfcmp, hdup, lilo,
memfetch, and openssl to the Franki linux packages (as a release numbered
0.4.3pre1). Assuming the corresponding scripts update has also been
installed, the FAQ is now included in the archive.

  Monday, October 27th 2003 11:35

System :: Installation/Setup
System :: Systems Administration

About: swaret lets you keep your Slackware system up to date. It functions
similarly to apt-get, the Debian package manager. It also has dependency
support to fix missing libraries.

Changes: This release has been completely rewritten from scratch. It now
works much faster than ever before. Updated dependency support should
better track missing libraries and fix them by downloading the necessary
packages. Exclude support has also been completely redesigned, and there
are other feature enhancements. This version has fewer actions and
options, and is more user friendly.

Scientific/Engineering
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
System :: Operating System

About: Warewulf is a Linux cluster implementation tool that builds RAMDISK
based filesystems and distributes them to the slave nodes. This
facilitates a Central administration model for all nodes and includes
tools needed to build configuration files, monitor, and control the nodes.
It is totally customizable and can be adapted to just about any type of
cluster. The node distributions are built from a virtual node filesystem
residing on the master and transfered to the nodes either by Etherboot or
CD-ROM images. Administration becomes scalable by having only one point of
admin for all nodes. Node filesystems are very easy to customize, which
makes Warewulf fit many different solutions. There are also a number of
add-on software components (MPI, PVM, and Sun Grid Engine) for Warewulf.

Changes: A bug has been fixed in wulfd with regard to large memory and use
of atol(l). A bug in the nodes with dhcpd restarting with a lost return
code has been fixed. Masterconf is easier to use.

  Monday, October 27th 2003 09:01

Internet
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Filesystems

About: The Zero Install system removes the need to install software or
libraries by running all programs from a network filesystem. The
filesystem in question is the Internet as a whole, with an aggressive
caching system to make it as fast as (or faster than) traditional systems
such as Debian's APT repository, and to allow for offline use. It doesn't
require any central authority to maintain it, and allows users to run
software without needing a root password.

Changes: Linux 2.6 is now supported in addition to the 2.4 series. This
has been tested with 2.6.0-pre7. A solution to the glibc symbol versioning
problem has been found, allowing much better binary compatibility.

Documentation
Software Development :: Documentation
Text Processing :: General

About: Zoem is a macro/programming language. It can be used as an
all-round macro language, but has more specialized uses as well. One such
specific use is its support for creating small mark-up languages that map
 to different devices. It has character filtering capabilities tailored
to this application. Two such languages come packaged with zoem; one for
creating manual pages that can be output either in troff or in HTML, the
other for creating FAQs again in either troff or HTML output. It supports
arithmetic evaluation, regular expressions, multidimensional data
storage, iteration, comprehensive IO, control operators, dictionary
stacks, system commands, and more.

Changes: The zoemzoem manual page was introduced to provide an overview of
the available zoem documentation. A bug in *ML syntactic sugar was fixed,
and new capabilities were added to the latter. A typo was fixed in the
DOCTYPE strings in the doc package and the html branch of the man package.
Preprocessing syntax was streamlined, so "\:" now generally introduces a
preprocessing sequence. The "-tl k [tablength]" option was added for
regulating (optional) device text indent.
