About: The Big Faceless PDF Library is a Java class library for creating
PDF documents. The Extended Edition offers the ability to create and edit
AcroForms, PDF's answer to the HTML form. Like HTML forms, PDF forms can
contain text boxes, radio buttons, and can call JavaScript functions. The

along with FDF support and verification for Digital Signatures. Both
variations offer full Unicode support, encryption, embedded TrueType and
Type1 fonts, barcodes, hyperlinks, spot and calibrated color. Advanced
text layout engine enables complex HTML styles. It is small, fast, easy to
use, and 100% pure Java.

Changes: The PDFPage.rotate method was fixed to work after a call to
setUnits. FormTexts are no longer clipped if there is no background/border
set, which is the same behavior as Acrobat 6. Page sizes may now be
specified as a string like "A4", "A3", and so on. In addition, page sizes
can now be specified as decimals, such as "100.5x100.5". TIFF parsing was
refactored, and now uses less memory and takes less time.

Internet
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML

About: DOMIT! is an XML parser for PHP. It is lightweight, fast, and
implements a generous subset of the DOM Level 1 specification. The primary
goal of DOMIT! is to provide PHP developers with a standards-compliant
means of working with XML, thus ensuring more portable and communicable
code. DOMIT! is not an extension; it is written purely in PHP and should
therefore run on any Web hosting platform with PHP 4 and above installed.
DOMIT! requires coupling with a SAX parser. You can use either the SAXY
parser that comes bundled with DOMIT! or the Expat parser that is included
in most later PHP distributions.

Changes: This release comprises a number of bugfixes and helper methods
suggested by users. Some of the class files have been reorganized and
phpDocumentor style comments have been added.

library for Unix platforms providing non-preemptive priority-based
scheduling for multiple threads of execution ("multithreading") inside
server applications. All threads run in the same address space, but each
thread has its own individual program-counter, run-time stack, signal mask
and errno variable. The scheduling is done in a cooperative way, i.e. the
threads are dispatched based on priority and pending events. The event
facility allows threads to wait until various types of events occur,
including pending I/O on filedescriptors, elapsed timers, pending I/O on
message ports, thread and process termination, and even customized
callback functions.

Changes: The build environment was upgraded to GNU autoconf 2.59, GNU
libtool 1.5.6, and GNU shtool 2.0.0. A few pointer handlings were fixed to
allow it to compile cleanly with GCC 3.4. The implementation was fixed so
that --enable-pthread now correctly implies --enable-syscall-soft.

[027] - GNU shtool 2.0.0
  by Ralf S. Engelschall (http://freshmeat.net/users/rse/)
  Tue, Jul 13th 2004 04:55

System :: Shells

About: GNU shtool is a compilation of small but very stable and portable
shell scripts into a single shell tool. All ingredients were in successful
use over many years in various free software projects. The compiled shtool
program is intended to be used inside the source tree of free software
packages. There it can overtake various (usually non-portable) tasks
related to the building and installation of an free software package.

Changes: This release adds substitution warnings to "shtool subst". The
old "shtool guessos" was replaced with a new "shtool platform" command.
There is even more POSIX 1003.1-2001 compliency and portability, and
there are many workarounds and fixes for permission related problems. An
error exit was fixed in all commands by introducing an "shtool_exit"
function. The shtool(1) manual page was split into multiple manual pages
and the content extended. The build environment was upgraded to GNU
Autoconf 2.59.

[042] - Linux Bandwidth Arbitrator 8.6
  by astormchaser (http://freshmeat.net/users/astormchaser/)
  Tue, Jul 13th 2004 13:55

System :: Networking
System :: Systems Administration

About: Linux Bandwidth Arbitrator allows beginning-to-advanced network
administrators to control bandwidth. It is designed to be completely
turn-key in its default configuration. You just plug it into your network
trunk, and it self configures and immediately starts slowing "bandwidth
hogs". It can be configured to target specific applications such as Kazaa,
IMAP, and POP. It is compatible with the 2.4.25 kernel, ebtables, and
brouter (bridging router). It also comes with denial of service
protection.

Changes: The VLANS (virtual trunking) feature is backwards compatible with
previous releases that did not have virtual trunking. This means you can
upgrade to 8.6 from 8.22 -8.2x without changing the configuration or
defining VLANS. Some improvements have been made to the VLAN feature.
Virtual trunking allows a user to provide "congestion control" on separate
trunks from one location using one Bandwidth Arbitrator. The original 9.1
load line for virtual trunking will be grandfathered.

[047] - MIB Smithy 3.0
  by Muonics (http://freshmeat.net/users/muonics/)
  Tue, Jul 13th 2004 08:32

Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers
System :: Networking

About: MIB Smithy is an application for SNMP and COPS developers, MIB and
PIB designers, and Internet-draft authors. It provides a GUI-based
environment for designing, editing, and compiling MIB and PIB modules
according to the SMIv1, SMIv2, and COPS-PR-SPPI standards. It accelerates
the development process by providing an easy-to-use GUI-based environment
for developing the specifications without the syntax and formatting
concerns of editing the modules by hand. It includes a number of built-in
basic SNMP management tools, XML support, and (with MIB Smithy
Professional) support for custom compiler output formats.

Changes: This major release adds support for editing and compiling PIB
(Policy Information Base) modules for the COPS (Common Open Policy
Service) protocol. GUI speed and usability improvements were made, such as
a "New Module" wizard and new automations, context-sensitive help, and
additional output formats. Minor documentation corrections were made. A
new "mibinfo" tool for command-line queries of module properties was
added.

Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Libraries :: Tcl Extensions

About: MIB Smithy SDK is a dynamic extension to Tcl/Tk (8.1+) that allows
development of custom scripts for controlling SNMP agents, manipulating
SMI definitions, doing conversions, and more. It is based on the core of
Muonics' MIB Smithy, and the SDK supports SMIv1 and SMIv2, as well as
SNMPv1/v2c/v3 with HMAC-SHA-96 and HMAC-MD5-96 authentication and CBC-DES
privacy. It also provides complete read-write access to all elements of
SMI/MIB Module definitions, unlike similar extensions that provide only
read access to a limited subset. The SDK allows multiple discrete SMI
databases and SNMP sessions, and provides all of the built-in validation
and error recovery capabilites of the full product, without the visual MIB
development environment.

Changes: This major release adds support for compiling and querying
properties of PIB (Policy Information Base) modules for the COPS (Common
Open Policy Service) protocol. An optional module was added to provide
support for most of the Scotty/TNM MIB and SNMP management APIs. Minor
documentation corrections were made. A new "mibinfo.tcl" example script
for command-line queries of module properties was added in the final
build.

About: Traffic Control Super Script is used for traffic shaping of
Internet (IP) traffic passing through a NAT/bridge box with only one
hosts-config file with one line per host configs. TCSS can manage
bandwidth to user-specified speeds based on the u32 classifier. TCSS uses
the iproute2-u32 classifier to identify traffic by source, dest,

Internet
System :: Networking

About: XORP is the eXtensible Open Router Platform, an open- source router
software stack. The goal is to develop a software router platform that is
stable and fully featured enough for production use, and flexible and
extensible enough to enable network research. It implements routing
protocols for IPv4 and IPv6 and a unified means to configure them.

[096] - XOTclIDE 0.61
  by Xdobry (http://freshmeat.net/users/arturt/)

Software Development :: Build Tools
Software Development :: Version Control

About: XOTclIDE is an integrated (interactive) development environment for
the Tcl and XOTcl language, a highly flexible object-oriented extension of
Tcl. It provides a Smalltalk-like programming environment similar to
Squick. It allows graphical introspection and editing of a running system
(based on Tcl's and XOTcl's introspection facilities). The system state
can be saved in the form of Tcl packages. It can optionally use a version
control system based on a relational database (MySQL, PostgreSQL, ODBC, or
SQLite). All system changes are saved to the database on the fly. It
provides browsers for viewing and editing xotcl classes and objects. It
also contains syntax highlighting and a static code checker for TCL and
xotcl. It contains many developer plugins.

Changes: This version offers a new plug-in: an I18N (Internationalization)
helper that can scan a program for msgcat-library expresions and produce
msg-catalogs. XOTclIDE can use Oracle (via the oratcl interface) as a
version control database. This release also contains some small bugfixes.

[097] - xterm patch #192
  by T.E.Dickey (http://freshmeat.net/users/tedickey/)
  Tue, Jul 13th 2004 19:29

Desktop Environment
Terminals :: Terminal Emulators/X Terminals

About: The xterm program is the standard terminal emulator for the X
Window System. It provides DEC VT102/VT220 and Tektronix 4014 compatible
terminals for programs that can't use the window system directly. If the
underlying operating system supports terminal resizing capabilities (for
example, the SIGWINCH signal in systems derived from 4.3bsd), xterm will
use the facilities to notify programs running in the window whenever it is
resized.

Changes: This release features several small fixes. The most noticeable
are to the terminfo entry and to the default color resources.

System :: Systems Administration

About: YALA is a Web-based LDAP administration GUI. The idea is to
simplify the directory administration with a graphical interface and neat
features, while remaining a general purpose program (unlike some LDAP
browsers written specifically for managing users on the system).

Changes: This release features bug fixes, code cleanups, CSS and better
design, sanity checks, and more.

[099] - ZIG 1.2.1
  by Fabio Reis Cecin (http://freshmeat.net/users/frcecin/)
  Tue, Jul 13th 2004 22:41

Games/Entertainment
Internet

About: ZIG is a portable, game-oriented client-server networking and
execution framework written in C++. It can be used together with other
engines or libraries that supply graphics, game physics, etc. in order to
implement a full multiplayer game engine. Its goal is to provide an
easy-to-use yet powerful game networking engine so that game developers
won't feel the need to write networking engines from scratch using
low-level APIs such as sockets.

Changes: This version fixes critical multithreading bugs that affect the
new 'non-blocking' execution mode introduced in the previous release.
There were also a couple of other (minor) bugs fixed.
