by mean99 (http://freshmeat.net/users/mean99/)
Thu, Jul 22nd 2004 18:39
Multimedia :: Video :: Non-Linear Editor
About: Avidemux is a graphical tool to edit video. It can open AVI,
openDML, MPEG, Nuppelvideo, and BMPs. Most common codecs are supported
(M-JPEG, MPEG, DivX, Xvid, huffyuv, WMA, etc.) thanks to libavcodec and

Adaptive Technologies
Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Filters
About: libbnr is an implementation of the Bayesian Noise Reduction (BNR)
algorithm. All samples of text contain some degree of noise (data which is
either intentionally or unintentionally irrelevant to accurate statistical
analysis of the sample where removal of the data would result in a cleaner
analysis). The Bayesian noise reduction algorithm provides a means of
cleaner machine learning by providing more useful data, which ultimately
leads to better sample analysis. With the noisy data removed from the
sample, what is left is only data relevant to the classification. libbnr
can be linked in with your classifier and called using the standard C
interface.

Text Processing :: Filters
About: DSPAM is a server-side statistical anti-spam agent for Unix email
servers. It masquerades as the email server's local delivery agent and
effectively filters spam using a combination of de-obfuscation techniques,
specialized algorithms, and statistical analysis. The result is an
administratively maintenance-free, self-learning anti-spam tool. DSPAM has
yielded real-world success rates beyond 99.9% accuracy with less than a
0.01% chance of false positives.
Changes: A bug in the field names generated by dspam_2sql has been fixed.
The 2500 message threshold for TOE-mode training has been removed (TOE
kicks in immediately now). The CGI uses a configure.pl for centralized
configuration. The Bayesian Noise Reduction algorithm has been
rewritten/cleaned up (upgraded to 1.2). A bug where the signature would
get appended after an HTML close tag, causing some email clients to drop
the signature, has been fixed. There are miscellaneous fixes to purge SQL.

[028] - GTK Photo Gallery 0.20
by Jens Wilke (http://freshmeat.net/users/jenswilke/)
Thu, Jul 22nd 2004 05:59
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers
About: GTK Photo Gallery is an album to manage small and medium-sized
photograph collections. It allows quick management by processing multiple
files together. Rotate, delete, move, and manage descriptions can be done
for all files in one directory at once. It is implemented with GTK2-Perl,
and due to the lack of a Web server in between, it is much faster than
CGI-based scripts. It uses the same directory structure as (and can be
used together with) My Photo Gallery (a set of CGI scripts).
Changes: A new installer was implemented. Support was added for ordering
prints at online laboratory. The program was internationalized, and
supports English and German. Minimal help was written. Bugfixes were made.

About: OpenOffice.org Tools is a GUI-based Java program that complements
OpenOffice. The tools include a Writer file properties viewer, a modified
word counter, and a bibliography converter. The file properties viewer

The view can be customized and auto-loaded on program start-up. The word
counter counts words bounded by spaces. This is different from the word
count provided by OpenOffice, which counts hyphenated words as more than
one word. The bibliography converter imports bibliographic information
from BibTeX and OpenOffice files and exports them to a database format
supported by OpenOffice to be used as a bibliography database.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
About: PHPlist is a mailing list and newsletter manager that allows
posting via a Web page. It works well when used for announcements, and can
handle very large email address lists. Users can sign up to multiple lists,
but will only receive a single copy of cross-posted messages. When signing
up, users can identify their geographical location, and messages can be
targetted to these. You can add place holders in your email that will be
replaced with personal details (such as the person's name). Users can
update their own information, and unlike many other mailing list systems,
they can change their email address. HTML emails are supported.
Changes: Blacklisting was added. If a user unsubscribes, they are
blacklisted and no messages will ever be sent again without explicit admin
intervention.

About: Pin is an ATOM-like instrumentation tool for Linux executables. It
allows arbitrary code (written in C or C++) to be injected at arbitrary
places in an executable. Unlike Atom, Pin does not perform the
instrumentation statically by rewriting the executable, but rather
dynamically by adding instrumentation while the executable is running.
Currently supported platforms include IA-32, Intel Xscale, and Itanium
processors.
Changes: Kits for both XScale and IA-32 architectures are now available.
The XScale kit has been tested on intimate/ipaq (debian stable, with
compiler upgrade). The IA-32 kit has been tested on Red Hat 7.2 (with
compiler upgrade), 8.0, 9.0, and EL3.

About: pop3spam is a POP3 client which connects to a POP3 server and
deletes unsolicited mail. It's possible to check for messages that exceed
a certain limit and to scan header lines for special patterns (regular
expressions). If a message has been identified as unsolicited, it can be
deleted directly from the POP3 server without the need to download it
first. Eventually your normal mail-retrieval utility (e.g. fetchmail) can
gather all (cleaned) mail as usual.
Changes: Two new options were added: "spam_confirm" (-t) and

Thu, Jul 22nd 2004 10:03
About: UI::Dialog is an OOPerl wrapper for various dialog applications. It
supports the dialog backends Zenity, XDialog, GDialog, KDialog, CDialog,
and Whiptail. There is also an ASCII backend provided as a last resort
interface for the console-based dialog variants. UI::Dialog is a class

using UI:Dialog (with its imposed limitations on the widgets), you can
ensure that your Perl program will function with any available interface.
UI::Dialog is the result of a complete rewrite of the UDPM CPAN module.

Scientific/Engineering
About: This package is for processing, visualizing, and analysis of
scientific cores. It includes rectifying core photographs, a simple core
logger, and an OpenInventor based visualization system. It also includes
many special features for paleomagnetic data from cores.
Changes: Brand new terrain generation code. Now supports many more input
formats and writes both OpenInventor and OBJ files(for Lightwave and
Maya). LWO2 generation works for geometry, but no texture support. Still a
bit rough, but works. Also includes the beginnings of a serial spacemouse
driver and some sample code for OpenInventor/Coin. This is the post Mars
Exploration Rovers, pre Santa Barbara Sproul cruise release. The package
structure is still pretty messy.

[101] - XOM 1.0a4

Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML
Text Processing :: Markup :: XSL/XSLT
About: XOM is an XML object model. It is a tree-based API for processing
XML with Java that simultaneously supports streaming. In many use-cases,
it can process arbitrarily large documents with effectively constant
memory sizes. It strives for correctness, simplicity, and performance, in
that order.
Changes: The IBM virtual machine 1.4.1 is no longer handled as a special
case. The unpublished nu.xom.xerces package has been removed. The W3C XML
Schema Language and WML and HTML DOMs have been removed from the bundled
version of Xerces to save space. XOM now uses character references only
when necessary for all encodings supported by the local virtual machine.
XOM is no longer dependant on the Xerces and java.net URI classes. The
Builder class no longer sets any Java system properties for improved
compatibility with applets and multiclassloader environments.

[102] - Yawiki PHP 0.15 alpha
by Paul M. Jones (http://freshmeat.net/users/pmjones/)

Documentation
Information Management :: Document Repositories
About: Yawiki is a powerful Wiki system for collaborative document
generation. It supports both anonymous and authenticated users. It uses an
AreaMap page to generate a hierarchy of pages and navigational elements. It
supports page-level access control lists. There is an optional comment
system built-in, as well as RSS feeds for individual public pages.
Changes: This version requires Text_Wiki 0.20.1 or later, as it needs the
new Plain renderer in that version. A simple search capability was added,
which searches page name, title, and body. It is a phrase/keyword search,
not a relevance engine. util/buildsearch.php was added to build or rebuild
the search table. A search bar was added to the default header template. A
margin above the lower link-bar was added in index.tpl.php.
