[001] - AnomicHTTPProxy 0.23
  by Michael Christen (http://freshmeat.net/users/Orbiter/)
  Sun, Aug 8th 2004 17:45

Communications :: File Sharing
Information Management
Internet :: Proxy Servers

About: The AnomicHTTPProxy is a caching proxy. Pages that pass the proxy
are indexed and can be searched using a built-in HTTP server. Proxies can
connect each other and form a p2p-based index exchange network, based on
distributed hash tables. The proxy can therefore be used as a global
search and distributed indexing engine. A specialized database engine is
included, which makes installation and running the proxy very easy. Other
features are: blacklisting (URL filtering) with blacklist distribution,
and access control with IP filters and/or HTTP authentication.

Changes: Enhanced Message Passing and URL blocking with multiple
blacklists, many minor bugfixes and enhancements (httpd speedup, POST
command, double-link checking, headline beautification, better
bootstrapping, auto-migration of settings, better logging, better search
requesting, and a proxy-proxy mode for p2p protocols). There is better
documentation: a new FAQ and a wiki on the demo page.

[005] - Clean Slate Smalltalk 0.3
  by water (http://freshmeat.net/users/water451/)
  Sun, Aug 8th 2004 14:44

Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Interpreters

About: Slate is a prototype-based object-oriented programming language
based on Self, CLOS, and Smalltalk. Slate syntax is intended to be as
familiar as possible to a Smalltalker, rather than engaging in divergent
experiments in that respect. However, the language semantics, environment,
and run-time design are all much more powerful than in traditional
Smalltalk systems.

Changes: This release is fully bootstrapped, requiring only a C toolchain
to produce a tiny VM and load provided core images, and bootstraps itself.
Slate's VM is written in Slate, using a very flexible translation system.
Many optimizations were added, and all libraries debugged and polished.
Examples: exception-handling, streaming, and external resource usage.
Instructions for building and basic have been consolidated into the
included README file.

[006] - CVSNT 2.0.51b (Stable)
  by Tony Hoyle (http://freshmeat.net/users/tmhoyle/)
  Sun, Aug 8th 2004 14:36

Software Development :: Version Control
Software Development :: Version Control :: CVS

About: CVSNT was started as a port of cvs pserver for NT. It has since
been greatly improved and is now available under Windows and Unix/Linux.
Authentication may be done via all standard CVS protocols, plus
Windows-specific SSPI and Active Directory. Secure transport support is
implemented via sserver or encrypted SSPI. The NT version is fully
integrated with the Win32 system. MergePoint processing means no more
tagging to merge. Atomic checkouts mean you always get the files you
wanted.

Changes: Repository prefixes are replaced by repository aliases (all your
repositories should be upgraded automatically on installation to the new
format). File locking granularity is now exclusively per-file rather than
per-directory. Local mode operations now start a local lockserver as a
system tray app on Windows. There is an external CVSNT protocol wrapper
for 3rd party clients (extnt). Pre-release of rename support (to be rolled
out in the next version). Files or file types may be marked for automatic
reserved edit (-kc option).

  Sun, Aug 8th 2004 06:46

Security
Security :: Cryptography
System :: Logging

About: grsecurity is a complete security system for Linux 2.4 that
implements a detection/prevention/containment strategy. It prevents most
forms of address space modification, confines programs via its Role-Based
Access Control system, hardens syscalls, provides full-featured auditing,
and implements many of the OpenBSD randomness features. It was written for
performance, ease-of-use, and security. The RBAC system has an intelligent
learning mode that can generate least privilege policies for the entire
system with no configuration. All of grsecurity supports a feature that
logs the IP of the attacker that causes an alert or audit.

Changes: Domain support was added. Regex matching was enhanced. Automatic
exploit bruteforce deterrence was added. Directories are included in RBAC
configuration. RBAC-contextual logging was added. Memory usage was
reduced. PaX was updated. Bugfixes were made. An important security issue
that allowed protected processes in the RBAC system to be killed has been
resolved. gradm has been updated to 2.0.1 for this release.

[028] - Krename 3.0.2 (Stable)
  by Dominik Seichter (http://freshmeat.net/users/domseichter/)
  Sun, Aug 8th 2004 04:15

Desktop Environment :: K Desktop Environment (KDE)
Utilities

About: Krename is a very powerful batch file renamer for KDE3 which can
rename a list of files based on a set of expressions. It can copy/move the
files to another directory or simply rename the input files. Krename
supports many conversion operations, including conversion of a filename to
lowercase or to uppercase, conversion of the first letter of every word to
uppercase, adding numbers to filenames, finding and replacing parts of the
filename, and many more. It can also change access and modification dates,
permissions, and file ownership.

Changes: This version adds a Bosnian translation and most other
translations were updated. Additionally, this version fixes a grave bug
which could cause random numbering under certain circumstances.

Games/Entertainment :: Simulation

About: LBreakout is a breakout game with nice effects, graphics, and
sounds. It's got a menu to configure a lot of things and a high score
chart. It can be played either by mouse or keyboard. New levels can also
be created, and most other aspects of the game can be customized.

Changes: SDL_net is now supported in this release. This allows users to
play network games on non-Unix systems like Windows. Furthermore, the
audio is now in stereo for a local game and partially stereo for a network
game. When using the warp feature, you will get the total score of all
remaining bricks subtracted as a penalty, which is better than the
previously fixed 5000 points, if clearing a level completely.

[031] - Long Exposure Tools 0.1
  by Joat (http://freshmeat.net/users/joat_ca/)
  Sun, Aug 8th 2004 15:10

Multimedia :: Graphics

About: The Long Exposure Tools try to simulate the effects of long
exposures by combining multiple short exposure images. Most importantly,
they can take several images of a static, background subject with
transient objects that differ in each image (say, a landscape with people
milling about it front of it), and build an image of the background
without the transient elements. In other words, they generate the image
that your camera would have taken had the moving objects not been present.
They require a recent installation of Netpbm (version 10 or later).
