[001] - AbiWord 2.0.10
by Hub (http://freshmeat.net/users/hubertfiguiere/)
Mon, Aug 16th 2004 08:18
Office/Business
About: AbiWord is a cross-platform Open Source word processor. The goal is
to make AbiWord full-featured, and remain lean.
Changes: Various errors in the Windows print dialog were fixed. TAB
leaders finally work properly. Incorrect numbering for footnotes was
fixed. Table support was improved in the MS Word importer.

[002] - aConCorde 0.4.1
by Andy Roberts (http://freshmeat.net/users/theroo/)
Mon, Aug 16th 2004 06:09
Scientific/Engineering
About: aConCorde is a concordance tool to help visualise how words behave
in relation to others. It is useful for linguists to study languages, and
for people learning foreign languages to learn new words in an
example-based approach. It contains standard concordance features: keyword
in context searches (KWIC), sort by context, word frequency lists, etc. It
has been designed to be multi-lingual in terms of its interface, and in
its ability to process and display practically all languages, including
right-to-left languages such as Arabic and Hebrew. The program currently
has native English and Arabic interfaces., with more to come in future
versions. It supports common file encodings: Unicode, UTF-8, ASCII, and
most Arabic encoding types. More will be added.
Changes: This minor release provides better performance for loading of
corpora, and for the concordance search time. A new properties file has
been utilized, which will allow permanent customization of aConCorde's
settings (although only the context size is supported in this release).
The build.sh script was also fixed.

[003] - amavisd-new 2.1.0 (20040815)
by Mark Martinec (http://freshmeat.net/users/mmartinec/)
Mon, Aug 16th 2004 00:12
Communications :: Email :: Filters
About: amavisd-new is a high-performance and reliable interface between
MTAs and one or more content checkers, including virus scanners, and/or
the Mail::SpamAssasin Perl module. It talks to the MTA via (E)SMTP or
LMTP, or by using helper programs. No timing gaps exist in the design,
which could cause a mail loss. It is normally positioned at or near a
central mailer, not necessarily where the user's mailboxes and final
delivery takes place.
Changes: The use of BerkeleyDB is now optional. The configuration files
were cleaned up, and a small new amavisd-nanny utility that shows the
status of all child processes and checks for vanished or stale processes
was included. Two important bugfixes were made in the ACL and SQL lookup
code along with numerous other fixes and small improvements. Users of
2.0 should upgrade to this release.

Mon, Aug 16th 2004 00:06
About: Andy's Simple PHP Knowledgebase is a database-driven Web
application for the purpose of storing, searching, and updating article
content for a knowledge base.
Changes: This release featured an admin directory, article review and
approval, a users table for authentication, article submission, a
frequently asked questions link, article category browsing, and an
article summary on search results. Email submission was removed.

[005] - AnomicHTTPProxy 0.24
by Michael Christen (http://freshmeat.net/users/Orbiter/)
Mon, Aug 16th 2004 03:35
Communications :: File Sharing
Information Management
Internet :: Proxy Servers
About: The AnomicHTTPProxy is a caching proxy. Pages that pass the proxy
are indexed and can be searched using a built-in HTTP server. Proxies can
connect each other and form a p2p-based index exchange network, based on
distributed hash tables. The proxy can therefore be used as a global
search and distributed indexing engine. A specialized database engine is
included, which makes installation and running the proxy very easy. Other
features are: blacklisting (URL filtering) with blacklist distribution,
and access control with IP filters and/or HTTP authentication.
Changes: A new 'Cache' menu item was added to inspect the proxy cache,
giving a visual analysis of HTTP response headers, the contents of each
file, and a detailed list of anchors of HTML resources. Bootstrapping
was accelerated using the most recent connections. More information was
provided in the network menu.

About: BBclone is a PHP Web counter on steroids which displays individual
logs as well as aggregated data. It is a clone of Big Brother webstats,
except that it is written in PHP and it relies only on flat files (no
database needed). BBclone enables any Web site administrator to have a
very precise view of who visit the website: OS, browser, date, referring
page etc. Main features include reload resistance, hostname resolution,
proxy workaround, and blacklist.
Changes: Counting of keywords coming from search engines was added, the
Catalan translation was updated, a huge update was made to the detection
rules, and minor bugfixes and improvements were made.

[010] - BusyBox 1.0.0-rc3
by Erik Andersen (http://freshmeat.net/users/andersee/)
Mon, Aug 16th 2004 06:11
Software Development :: Embedded Systems
System :: Boot :: Init
About: BusyBox combines tiny versions of many common UNIX utilities into a
single small executable. It provides minimalist replacements for most of
the utilities you usually find in GNU fileutils, shellutils, etc. The
utilities in BusyBox generally have fewer options than their full-featured
GNU cousins; however, the options that are included provide the expected
functionality and behave very much like their GNU counterparts. BusyBox
provides a fairly complete POSIX environment for any small or embedded
system.
Changes: Cleanup was continued in preparation for the final 1.0.0 release.

[013] - CGIScripter 2.19
by David Simpson (http://freshmeat.net/users/dsimpson1/)
Mon, Aug 16th 2004 13:44
About: CGIScripter automates the development of Perl CGI scripts for
MySQL, Oracle, Access, SQL Server, Sybase, DB2, PostgreSQL and FrontBase
databases. Perl CGI scripts are generated for each form specified within
CGIScripter and include customized data entry and data validation for each
Web form. The Perl CGI scripts generated by CGIScripter also provide
support for insert/update/view/delete of GIF/JPEG images via a Web-based
interface. Critical Web form processing parameters are hard-coded within
each script instead of being accepted via POST or GET operations in order
to prevent Web form hijacking.
Changes: Improvements include support for generating Perl CGI scripts for
FrontBase databases, for both Windows and Mac OS X Web servers.

[020] - CRM114 Discriminator 20040815
by Crah the Merciless (http://freshmeat.net/users/wsymerlcom/)
Mon, Aug 16th 2004 09:11
Communications :: Email
System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring
About: CRM114 is a Controllable Regex Mutilator and Smart Filter, designed
for easy creation of filters for things like incoming email redirection,
spam filtering, system logs, or monitoring processes. Filtering rules can
be either hard-coded (such as regexes), soft-coded (calculated at runtime
or read from an external file or process), or learned dynamically by
phrase matching (by SBPH hashing or Markovian matching, or Winnowing).
This makes it possible to create very accurate filters with very little
actual work. Accuracies over 99.9% are achievable.
Changes: The main purpose of this release is to provide bugfixes,
cleanups, and synchronization. The start/length operators in match
qualification are now working, and use the same syntax as the seek/length
operators in file I/O. The -v option and :_crm_version: now also identify
the regex engine type and version. Several bugs have been fixed, including
a syscall bug and two different reclaimer bugs. Other code cleanups and
documentation corrections have been done.

[068] - OpenWFE 1.4.1
by John Mettraux (http://freshmeat.net/users/jmettraux/)
Mon, Aug 16th 2004 00:39
Information Management :: Workflow Frameworks
About: OpenWFE is a workflow engine. It is written in Java and is robust,
extensible, and scalable. An access library for Python is available,
making it easy to write custom interfaces or agents (automatic
participants) for a workflow-enabled system.
Changes: One important concept was introduced for stores: the order in
which they are instantiated in the worklist configuration file is now the
order in which they are asked if they accept a workitem for a given
participant name. The first store to accept (by name pattern matching) a
workitem 'wins' it. The default store is no longer 'Store.default', but
the last declared store. To follow this scheme, the example
Store.default was moved to the end of the release store declarations.
Various bugfixes were made.

About: OperBot is an IRC bot that provides /ctcp INVITE, /ctcp OP, and
KNOCK access to a set of oper-only channels. These commands allow an IRC
operator to be invited into a channel and become opped in a channel
without the bot's administrator managing a userlist. This code is based
off the idea of 'son' and 'dth' on EFnet. This code is a standalone C
program, and not a script for another client. The code is primarily geared
towards "EFnet" IRC daemons, but it works on others.
Changes: This release supports an alternative nickname, used when its main
nickname is in use. The bot will switch back once it becomes free. It also
includes a functional but unsupported SSL patch.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
About: PHP Content Management System (phpCMS) makes it possible to need
only one template for your whole Web site. It allows you to provide

the pages it generates can not be distinguished from static HTML pages.
PHP code can be added to any template and content file with an optional
module. It supports the caching of parsed pages and gzip compression.
Changes: This release fixed some problems with content length in
gzip-encoded files, improved automatic detection of the server OS and
paths, made mail2crypt work in the online editor mode, fixed some minor
problems with caching, fixed incompatibilities with some external
scripts (eg. NewsWriter), made <phpcms:noindex> and <phpcms:nofollow>
work if the start- and end-tag are not in the same subtemplate, and made

About: Pluto is a library which allows users to write arbitrarily large
portions of the "Lua universe" into a flat file, and later read them back
into the same or a different Lua universe. Object references are
appropriately handled, such that the file contains everything needed to
recreate the objects in question. It can persist any Lua function, can
persist threads, works with any Lua chunkreader/chunkwriter, supports
"invariant" permanent objects of all datatypes, and can invoke
metafunctions for custom persistence of tables and user data.

The text in the output is otherwise unmodified. One of the main goals of
this script is to provide LaTeX output that can be easily included in
other LaTeX documents by simply removing the document header.
Changes: Two files are now produced (preview and includable) instead of

[097] - Syslinux 2.11
by H. Peter Anvin (http://freshmeat.net/users/hpa/)
Mon, Aug 16th 2004 19:42
System :: Boot
About: SYSLINUX is a collection of boot loaders for the Linux operating
system which operates off MS-DOS floppies, network servers using PXE
firmware, or from CD-ROMs. It is intended to simplify first-time
installation of Linux, rescue disks, and other uses for boot floppies. A
SYSLINUX floppy can be manipulated using standard MS-DOS (or any other OS
that can access an MS-DOS filesystem) tools once it has been created; and
requires only a very small DOS or Linux program to create in the first
place. It also includes MEMDISK, a tool to boot legacy operating systems
from nontraditional media like PXE or CD-ROM.
Changes: This version fixes bugs in booting SYSLINUX from flash media and
bugs with compiling the memory system with newer versions of gcc.

[099] - Tapeback 0.5
by Ron Gage (http://freshmeat.net/users/rongage/)
Mon, Aug 16th 2004 06:21
System :: Archiving :: Backup
About: Tapeback is command line software for backing up various parts of
a Linux system. It supports appending multiple backups to a single tape
as well as having a backup span multiple tapes. Its backups are fully
self-contained; no "database" is needed to restore a backup. Restore
point redirection is also easily accomplished without complex editing of
config files or complex commands to enter at the command line. The package
also includes a small kernel patch to facilitate real-time detection of
"drive ready" status. This patch allows tapeback to automatically detect
when a tape is switched in the drive (when end of tape is hit during
backup/restore).
Changes: The ability to create filesets was added. A fileset is a reusable
list of specific directories and files to backup. The progress bar was
fixed so that it's actually accurate. A speed indicator was added to the
backup display. Incremental and differential backups now work with
filesets. Other minor bugfixes were made.

About: up2dateiso is a program that creates current CD ISO images for Red
Hat 9, CentOS 3.1, or Fedora Core 1 or 2 with the latest RPM updates
available. It also includes custom KPLUG splash screens that identify them
as updated.
Changes: This release added checks to use local copies of genhdlist and
implantisomd5 if the library checks failed on the ones included in the
ISO. This allows FC2 to be updated on FC1 systems. It also added a
timestamp and version number to the splash screen, making it possible to
accurately identify when the update was created.

About: WWE is a small perl CGI program written to allow people who only
have FTP access to their Web sites to edit their pages using a Web
browser. Although it can be used to edit any text file accessible over
FTP, it has features designed to "dumb down" maintenance of static Web
sites, so people who don't know any HTML can add or edit text without
having to worry about breaking the layout.

[106] - Webcockpit 1.1.0
by Peter Klauser (http://freshmeat.net/users/pjk/)
Mon, Aug 16th 2004 16:06
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation
Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization
About: Webcockpit is a Web application generator for reporting and
monitoring applications. It generates complete JSP-based Web applications
which contain charts and tables whose contents are retrieved using
database queries. The charts and tables can be configured to link to each
other, enabling master detail-like drill-down. You can provide your own
HTML or JSP template files which are mixed with the generated JSP to
provide a final Web application.
Changes: The largest feature implemented in this release allows bind
variables passed as page parameters to be forwarded in links to other
items. With this limitation removed, all information at the top level of a
drill down can be transported to the sub levels without information loss.
There is additional consistency checking in webcockpit configuration files
and simplification of the HTML mixing with templates. The dfocumentation
now includes a new full tutorial to get started easily developing your own
webcockpit applications.
