[001] - AcpiTool 0.2.2
by DLeemans (http://freshmeat.net/users/dleemans/)
Thu, Aug 19th 2004 21:04
System
System :: Systems Administration
About: AcpiTool is a Linux ACPI client. It's a small command line
application, intended to be a replacement for the apm tool. The primary
target audience are laptop users, since these people are most interested
in things like battery status, thermal status and the ability to suspend
(sleep mode). The program simply accesses the /proc/acpi or /sysfs entries
to get/set acpi values. Hence, a computer running a Linux kernel from the
2.4.x or 2.6.x series with ACPI enabled is needed.
Changes: This release adds support for wakeup-capable devices.

[002] - Advanced Web Ranking 3.2
by Philip Petrescu (http://freshmeat.net/users/pphilip/)

Internet
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management :: Link Checking
Utilities
About: Advanced Web Ranking is a tool that will help you check your Web
site position on all major search engines. It saves you hours of tedious
work while monitoring your Web site's search engine position. It generates
tabular and graphical reports that will help you check not just the
position of your Web site, but the position of your competitors' Web sites
as well.
Changes: The ability to zip reports before sending them by email was
added. An index was added to the HTML reports (Current Rank and Top Sites)
for easier browsing. The Rank Evolution charts in the HTML reports are now
sent correctly by email as inline MIME encoded parts. The links to the
search engine results page from the HTML reports were made more visible.
The columns and sort order in the Overview report are now persistent. The
printable Overview report sorts the data using the same criteria as in the
Overview report from the user interface. The help text for the German
language was updated.

[004] - aircrack 1.3
by Christophe Devine (http://freshmeat.net/users/devine10/)
Thu, Aug 19th 2004 14:26
Security
About: aircrack is an 802.11 WEP cracking program that can recover a
40-bit or 104-bit WEP key once enough encrypted packets have been
gathered. It implements the standard FMS attack along with some
optimizations, thus making the attack much faster compared to other WEP
cracking tools.
Changes: This release fixes some major bugs in the WEP cryptoanalysis code
that would prevent the key from being cracked when the captured packets'
initialization vectors (IVs) are sequentially incremented. Further testing
in real-life situations has shown that on the average a total number of one
million unique IVs are needed for recovering the WEP key. These new attacks
appear to work even against wireless equipments that implement so-called
"WEP plus" weak IVs filtering.

About: AUCTeX is a much-enhanced (La)TeX environment for Emacs and part of
the GNU project.
Changes: Installation and menus under XEmacs work again (maybe for the
first time). Fontification of subscripts and superscripts is now disabled
when the fontification engine is not able to support it properly. As a
consequence, currently this feature is only available for developer
versions of Emacs. The `install' targets now use `DESTDIR' which should
make compilation for SuSE and Debian feasible.

Communications
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Libraries
About: COID consists of an object-oriented networking library and tools
that automatically generate a lightweight communications layer from C++
class declarations. Instantly functioning object-oriented networking can
be done just by decorating a C++ class with a few keywords and
implementing stream operators for custom types. The coidgen tool
automatically extracts designated classes and methods from specified
header files and generates a corresponding client class and host
dispatcher. The server library manages networked and local connections and
provides various services to running objects. The communication layer
establishes either remote connection through TCP or direct (vtable)
connection between the client and the server (if they reside in the same
process).
Changes: Ping and timeout methods were added to generated clients,
bugfixes were made to the comm library and networking code, a problem with
server shutdown was fixed, and server commands were added for debugging.

Software Development :: Version Control :: CVS
About: CVS is a version control system, which allows you to keep old
versions of files (usually source code), keep a log of who, when, and why
changes occurred, etc., like RCS or SCCS. Unlike the simpler systems, CVS
does not just operate on one file at a time or one directory at a time,
but operates on hierarchical collections of directories consisting of
version controlled files. CVS helps to manage releases and to control the
concurrent editing of source files among multiple authors. CVS allows
triggers to enable/log/control various operations and works well over a
wide area network.
Changes: This version fixes several serious security holes in the CVS
server executable as well as fixing one other minor bug in both the CVS
client and server. It is recommended for all CVS clients and servers.

Communications :: Email :: Post-Office :: IMAP
Communications :: Email :: Post-Office :: POP3
Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
About: Domain Technologie Control (DTC) is a Web GUI for administration
and accounting for hosting services. Made up of a set of PHP scripts that
manage a MySQL database which handles all the hosting information, it
generates backup scripts, statistics calculation scripts, and config files
for bind, Apache, qmail, postfix, courier, dovecot, and proftpd, using a
single system UID/GID. It allows administrators to delegate the task of
creating subdomains, email, and FTP accounts to users for the domain names
they own.
Changes: This release handles SBOX, which is a CGI wrapper: it does
chroot, suexec, and some memory and processor limitation. This is a very
big enhancement as this provides secured environement for shared hosting
of CGI scripts and Perl scripts (they can't read/write to other user's
files). There are some minor bugfixes, such as Dovecot config.

Thu, Aug 19th 2004 00:25
System :: Monitoring
About: Ips (Intelligent Process Status) is a Linux utility that displays
process information. It has features to make the tracking of active,
semi-active, and transient processes easy. It normally displays the
process status once and then exits, but can also act like a top program
to display process status repeatedly. The status can be displayed
directly to stdout, using the curses library, or in a raw X11 window.
There are many options to select, sort, and format the status.

[045] - JLAN Server 3.3
by Starlasoft (http://freshmeat.net/users/starlasoft/)
Thu, Aug 19th 2004 03:24
About: The JLAN Server is a portable Java file server implementing the
SMB/CIFS, NFS, and FTP protocols. The server has a pluggable filesystem
architecture allowing shared filesystems to be mapped to the local
filesystem, database filesystems, storage servers, contact/document
management systems etc. A number of filesystems are included with the
server. The JavaFileDiskDriver maps to the local filesystem. The
JDBCDiskDriver uses a JDBC database to hold the filesystem details with
pluggable data loader classes used to load/save the file data. It
includes file loaders that map to the local filesystem and store data in
database BLOBs.
Changes: This release added per-filesystem access control support with an
extensible access control manager and access control rule classes. It also
added quotas for per-filesystem or per-user quota management. WINS support
was added, and NetBIOS names can now be registered against a WINS server

About: matrixss is a package for the GAP system (gap-system.org)
implementing the Schreier-Sims algorithm for matrix groups, using
different approaches. This can be used as an alternative to the built-in
GAP implementation.
Changes: The so-called Verify routine by Sims has been implemented from
the description in Seress's book. This seems to be a better
strong-generating test than the STCS algorithm, and one can now choose
between them with an Option when using the probabilistic algorithm. The
Verify algorithm is still neither cleaned up nor optimized in any way, so
it is not fast, but it appears to be both sound and complete. The
probabilistic algorithm now again uses the GAP function PseudoRandom to
generate random group elements, since this appears to be faster.

dynamically by adding instrumentation while the executable is running.
Currently supported platforms include IA-32, Intel Xscale, and Itanium
processors.
Changes: A kit supporting Intel's 64bit x86 extension EM64T (aka IA32E)
has been added. The 32bit x86 kit has been updated. Among the numerous

[087] - Stabilizer 0.2.3
by Amir Michail (http://freshmeat.net/users/amir/)
Thu, Aug 19th 2004 00:32
Software Development
Software Development :: Bug Tracking
Software Development :: Testing
About: The Stabilizer bug tracking system aims to quickly stabilize buggy
GUI applications so that people can get real work done with them. Users
can collaboratively and quickly stabilize applications simply by using
them normally and reporting any bugs that they encounter to prevent anyone
(including themselves) from encountering them again. As soon as a few
people report the same bug, warnings will be issued to all users whenever
they are about to trigger that bug and they will be given the opportunity
to abort the input event. The bugs need to be fixed eventually, but this
makes the application useful in the meantime.
Changes: The PyQt client now allows the user to zoom to interesting parts
of the before/after screenshots using the mouse when reporting a bug or
"not bug". Bug prediction was significantly improved. Some default
configuration and command changes were made to the runner to support the
improved bug prediction algorithm. Pattern matching for filtering out
classes and events was relaxed. For evaluation, mutants are now selected
by filtering out those with too few (100) and too many selected tests
(600).
