[001] - 3rd Edition Dungeons & Dragons Character Generator 2.2
  by Slicer (http://freshmeat.net/users/slicer/)
  Sat, Aug 21st 2004 13:38

Games/Entertainment :: Role-Playing

About: 3rd Edition Dungeons and Dragons Character Generator is an
HTML/JavaScript Web page that allows the user to quickly and easily create
new Dungeons and Dragons characters. The characters can be of any of the
eleven classes, any of the playable races, and may start at any level from
1 to 220. Generation requires some simple input, after which the character
is displayed on a basic character sheet. It allows you to select your
starting stats, add ability points, and pick skills, equipment, feats, and
spells. It runs on most operating systems with most modern browsers.

Changes: This release fixes the way in which fighters may use their bonus
feats. Fighters may now use their bonus feats to select fighter bonus
feats only.

  by Antonio Diaz Diaz (http://freshmeat.net/users/ant_diaz/)
  Sat, Aug 21st 2004 11:55

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio :: CD Playing

About: adcd is a CD player for Linux with an interface built with ncurses.
It features all the functions expected in a compact disc player, including
playing selected tracks and random playing. Its small display makes it
ideal for use in an xterm.

Changes: Adcd now uses signals instead of threads, so the threads library
is no longer needed. The CD drive is no longer polled when there is no
disc or when the disc is stopped. A display of absolute and remaining
times was added.

Games/Entertainment :: Puzzle Games

About: Deadly Rooms Of Death is a puzzling game of dungeon exploration
where you must grab your sword and start chopping your way to the bottom
of a vast dungeon. Learning how to play is simple - you move Beethro in

like before moving and logical problem-solving is paramount, but the
game still has a sense of action as you lay waste to hordes of nasties.
When you finish exploring you can also build your own dungeons with the
level editor.

[014] - fwknop 0.3
  by Michael Rash (http://freshmeat.net/users/michaelrash/)
  Sat, Aug 21st 2004 00:32

Security
System :: Monitoring
System :: Networking :: Firewalls

About: fwknop is a flexible port knocking implementation that is based
around iptables. Both shared knock sequences and encrypted knock sequences
are supported. In addition, fwknop makes use of passive OS fingerprinting
signatures derived from p0f to ensure the OS that initiates a knock
sequence conforms to a specific type. This makes it possible to allow,
say, only Linux systems to connect to your SSH daemon. Both the knock
sequences and OS fingerprinting are completely implemented around iptables
log messages, and so a separate packet capture library is not required.

Changes: A problem with not tracking knock sequences by source IP address
was fixed along with an issue where knock sequence timeouts were not being
 honored. The old passive OS fingerprinting code was replaced by the p0f
strategy. Support for taking encryption keys from a file specified on the
command line was added. The "sequence decrypt failed" email message is
now only sent if decryption failed for all encrypt sequence SOURCE
blocks.

[016] - GNU gengetopt 2.12.2
  by Lorenzo Bettini (http://freshmeat.net/users/bettini/)
  Sat, Aug 21st 2004 03:14

Software Development
Utilities

About: GNU gengetopt takes a simple description of arguments and
generates a C function that uses the GNU getopt_long(3) function to
parse and validate the options. It is perfect if you are too lazy to
write all that is required to call getopt_long(3), or need to use many
options. The generated code also works with autoconf or automake.

Changes: Segfaults in multiple option handling were fixed. Sections can
now be associated with a more detailed description that is printed in the
--help output. Options and arguments in config files can now be separated
by '='. Wrapping is now applied to all description strings. Better checks
for quoted string well-formedness in the configuration files were
implemented.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: HTTP Servers

About: The Apache/Perl integration project brings together the full power
of the Perl programming language and the Apache HTTP server. With mod_perl
it is possible to write Apache modules entirely in Perl. In addition, the
persistent interpreter embedded in the server avoids the overhead of
starting an external interpreter and the penalty of Perl start-up time.

Changes: A huge effort was made to finish the existing API and complete
the documentation.

  Sat, Aug 21st 2004 06:10

Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: Netty is an event-driven network application framework. It provides
an easy event-based API (like Swing) for developing high-performance,
maintainable TCP/IP server/client applications. It provides many essential
features such as readiness selection, thread pooling, and buffer reuse,
which are required to build high performance and high capacity network
applications in Java.

Changes: This release adds SessionServer, which implements the server
socket acceptor, and SessionLog, which logs messages that are prefixed
with the socket address. Netty 2 now depends on Apache Jakarta Commons
Logging to provide the SessionLog and to log Netty's internal errors.

  by knorke (http://freshmeat.net/users/knorke/)
  Sat, Aug 21st 2004 06:20

Desktop Environment :: Window Managers

About: yeahwm (yet another h* window manager) is a minimalist window
manager based on evilwm. It supports Xinerama and multiple screens and
respects aspect size hints (useful with mplayer and tvtime). It features
creative usage of the mouse and has good keyboard control. Optional
titlebars can be toggled by using the keyboard or commandline.

Changes: This release adds Xinerama support (support for multiple screens
without Xinerama should still be working). Resizing is now done opaquely.
When in "selection mode", after clicking button1 on the root window,
windows can be moved (button1), shaded (button2), or raised/lowered (mouse
wheel). Snapping to screen edges now has higher priority than snapping to
windows. Initial placement for windows which remember their last position
has improved. If a maximized window is moved or resized, it now forgets
its unmaximized position and size. Some minor fixes have been made.
