[001] - 3D Lissajous Figures 1.3.2
  by Daniel Gruen (http://freshmeat.net/users/danielgruen/)
  Sun, Aug 22nd 2004 16:54

Multimedia :: Graphics
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics

About: qliss3d renders 3D Lissajous figures (figures made of a different
sine function for each dimension) with a Qt interface. Users can look at
the figures from any viewing position they like and even "listen" to the
sound of the figures.

Changes: This release adds a help window for all the controls, and phase
shift support (similar to using a cosine instead of a sine for one
dimension). It is also able to display all the properties of the figure,
and supports the Welsh language.

Scientific/Engineering :: Astronomy

About: Avsomat is a variable star astronomy framework. It supports the
automating of observation scheduling, identification and photometry of
variable stars on CCD images, reporting, management, and verification of
results. It uses electronic charts of the variable star fields and
maintains a view of the current results in the form of a collection of
interlinked Web pages with feedback forms, allowing members of the
observer community to participate in locating errors.

Changes: Internal links in result pages have been improved, and now show
the result magnitude of the variable star. Links to light curves have been
adjusted to the new format of the AAVSO.

  Sun, Aug 22nd 2004 23:05

Artistic Software
Multimedia :: Graphics
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Capture

About: EZFB is a polymorphic, object oriented Linux frame buffer API
written in C, designed to adapt at run time to control any properly
configured Linux frame buffer video system. It offers independent,
simultaneous control of multiple video cards within a single system,
exceptional control of colors, the ability to display all or portions of
bitmap files anywhere on the screen, automatic color depth conversion, the
ability to capture to bitmap files, an 8x8 bitmapped font, routines to draw
points, lines, outlined and filled rectangles, signal trapping for
automatic screen clean-up at process termination, and much more. The
demonstration applications include a bitmap viewer, screen capture
utility, screen saver, and a touch screen calibration utility.

Changes: A few bugs were fixed. gcc is now used instead of g++ in the
makefile, and the demo code now compiles cleanly with either gcc or g++.
Conditional code was added to assert that the frame buffer is in palette
mode before continuing in some of the demos that use palette mode.

[017] - GalaxyHack 0.6
  by James Gregory (http://freshmeat.net/users/jamesgregory/)
  Sun, Aug 22nd 2004 22:56

Games/Entertainment :: Real Time Strategy
Scientific/Engineering :: Artificial Intelligence

About: GalaxyHack allows you to participate in multiplayer, AI script
based battles set in space. Though battles take place in real time, the
strategy comes beforehand, both in writing short AI scripts in a very
easy-to-use, special-purpose scripting language, and also in the set up
and selection of your forces.

Changes: The scripting language was changed to a more Python-esque syntax
in two ways: blocks of commands are now grouped using tabs, not curly
brackets, and elseif was changed to elif. The game is now less likely to
crash if it comes across an error in a script.

Education
Multimedia :: Graphics :: 3D Modeling
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics

About: Gmsh is an automatic 3D finite element grid generator (primarily
Delaunay) with built-in CAD and post-processing facilities. Its design
goal is to provide a simple meshing tool for academic problems with
parametric input and up to date visualization capabilities. It is built
around four modules: geometry, mesh, solver, and post-processing. The
specification of any input to these modules is done either interactively
using the graphical user interface (based on FLTK and OpenGL) or in ASCII
text files using Gmsh's own scripting language.

Changes: This release added background mesh support for Triangle. Meshes
can now be displayed using "smoothed" normals (like post-processing
views). A GUI for clipping planes was added along with a new interactive
clipping/cutting plane definition, a reorganized Options GUI, enhanced 3D
iso computation, enhanced lighting, and many small bugfixes.

Communications :: Email :: Filters

About: IMAPFilter connects to remote IMAP mail servers and processes
messages according to defined filters (rules). It is intended to be
executed before a user accesses his/her mailboxes.

Changes: A bug was fixed which in some cases caused failure while
processing messages with an empty body part. Another bug was fixed where
an invalid namespace prefix was inserted in mailbox names of some mail
servers. Sequence set ranges are generated and sent to the server instead
of enumerations, which decreases network traffic. The command lines that
are send to the server are now limited in length, which is more efficient
and resource-friendly for the server.

  Sun, Aug 22nd 2004 12:38

Office/Business
Printing

About: KBarcode is a barcode and label printing application for KDE 3. It
can be used to print everything from simple business cards up to complex
labels with several barcodes, such as article descriptions. KBarcode comes
with an easy-to-use WYSIWYG label designer, a setup wizard, batch import of
labels (directly from the delivery note), thousands of predefined labels,
database managment tools, and translations in many languages. Even
printing more than 10,000 labels in one go is no problem for KBarcode.
Additionally, it is a simple xbarcode replacement for the creation of
barcodes. All major types of barcodes like EAN, UPC, CODE39, and ISBN are
supported.

Changes: This release fixes barcode generation problems on SuSE Linux. The
dependency on ImageMagick was dropped in favour of Ghostscript, which
results in faster barcode generation. Many smaller issues have been fixed.

  Sun, Aug 22nd 2004 06:19

System
System :: Hardware

About: PBButtons is a daemon to handle special hardware on the Apple
iBook/PowerBook/TiBook. It controls the display brightness, the sound
volume, mutes the sound, changes the trackpad mode, puts the machine to
sleep, or ejects the CDROM on command. It also provides basic power
management features. An included client gives the user visual feedback
about all actions with nice little popup windows.

Changes: This release improves pbbuttons' reliability. The algorithm to
check for an already running server has been improved so that spurious
error messages about an already running server will not occur again.
Furthermore, the power source detection now works reliably even if running
without any batteries plugged in. The battery logging can now be switched
on or off at run time. The corresponding compile-time options have been
removed. The keyboard illumination on/off key did not behave as desired.
This has been remedied.

  by Quickfoot (http://freshmeat.net/users/jsheets/)

Internet
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Security

About: PHPCoder is a Web-based frontend to the Turck MMCache encoding
functions, which are similar to the Zend Encoder product. PHPCoder enables
you to encode your PHP scripts and applications into non-reversible
bytecode, thus preventing users of your programs from viewing or altering
the source code while having full functionality. Another excellent use for
PHPCoder is to encode your applications PHP configuration files, that way
someone viewing your source code does not see your databae login and
password information. It also allows you to set restrictions on the
encoded scripts, you can lock a script to a particular server IP address,
server host name, visitor IP, or even place a time limit on the script so
it will expire after a configurable amount of time. You specify Text,
HTML, or PHP code that should be prepended and appended to each file
before it is encoded, allowing you to easily and securely implement your
own licensing scheme.

Changes: This release is updated for PHP 4.3.8 and MMCache 2.4.7,
corrects errors reported by XDebug, now outputs W3C- compliant HTML/CSS,
adds tool tips, adds a plain text help document, and is tested on Mozilla
1.6, Firefox 0.8, and IE 6.

About: POPsearch is a personal search engine that is designed to help you
easily find information on your computer. It lets you index your entire
collection of email messages and files, allowing you to search it from any
Web browser. POPsearch has features that're especially appealing to the
programming community because it actively allows you to expose and
classify data relationships. Think of POPsearch as a new type of
Relationship Engine for your daily flow of information.

Changes: The indexing can now be started and stopped from the Web browser.
When popsearch is invoked, a Web browser is launched automatically, and the
popbuild process is started automatically in the background. Dual instances
of popsearch and popbuild are prevented from running. When running
popsearch, -background is now on by default. The indexing process
(popbuild) can now be stopped and started from the popsearch GUI. More
performance tuning of the popbuild process. Portability changes for
FreeBSD. A harmful memory leak has been fixed. There is better support for

About: s11n ("serialization") is a C++ library for easily serializing a
wide variety of objects, including PODs, arbitrary streamable types, and
user-defined Serializable types. It is completely data-format agnostic and
currently supports 7 data formats, including three XML dialects and one
MySQL-powered back-end. Its author, with atypical hubris, truly believes
s11n to be the most advanced, most flexible, simplest-to-use, and utterly
most powerful serialization framework ever implemented in C++.

Changes: A memory leak in some support code has been fixed (doesn't affect
lib directly, but might affect clients). A persistent config object has
been added via s11nlite::config(). Broken XML escaping in expat_serializer

  by gamkiller (http://freshmeat.net/users/Gamkiller/)
  Sun, Aug 22nd 2004 22:52

About: foo is a small ncurses-based program for monitoring the wireless
signal strength of 802.11b/g cards under GNU/Linux. The idea comes from
Gabriel Cain's XNetworkStrength, which is a good graphical monitor for the
same purpose.

Changes: A few memory leaks were fixed and the file parser was rewritten.
Noise now has a static color.

Z80, 6502, 65c02, 6510, 65816, HuC6280, and SPC-700 CPUs. Included in the
package there is a GB-Z80 disassembler and few converters. WLA DX was

SPC-700.

[062] - Zero Install 0.1.26
  by Thomas Leonard (http://freshmeat.net/users/tal197/)
  Sun, Aug 22nd 2004 08:17

Internet
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Filesystems

About: The Zero Install system removes the need to install software or
libraries by running all programs from a network filesystem. The
filesystem in question is the Internet as a whole, with an aggressive
caching system to make it as fast as (or faster than) traditional systems
such as Debian's APT repository, and to allow for offline use. It doesn't
require any central authority to maintain it, and allows users to run
software without needing a root password.

Changes: This release adds support for D-BUS 0.22 (0.20 and 0.21 are still
supported). A bug that caused validation of deeply-nested indexes to be
very slow was fixed. A small memory leak was removed. A new unit-test
suite was added.
