About: The abcMIDI suite consists of programs for turning ABC music files
into MIDI and vice versa, typesetting them as PostScript files, and
manipulate them in several ways.

[004] - amavisd-new 2.1.1
by Mark Martinec (http://freshmeat.net/users/mmartinec/)
Tue, Aug 24th 2004 08:52
Communications :: Email :: Filters
About: amavisd-new is a high-performance and reliable interface between
MTAs and one or more content checkers, including virus scanners, and/or
the Mail::SpamAssasin Perl module. It talks to the MTA via (E)SMTP or
LMTP, or by using helper programs. No timing gaps exist in the design,
which could cause a mail loss. It is normally positioned at or near a
central mailer, not necessarily where the user's mailboxes and final
delivery takes place.
Changes: The default use of $banned_filename_re, which was lost in 2.1.0,
was added back. A fix was made for inappropriate log entry in SQL
whitelisting, complaining about unexpected wb field value. Missing import
of &ca was added to the amavisd-new-courier.patch. A default directory is
now provided with delivery method "bsmtp", if not specified. The
Mail::SpamAssassin::Plugin::Hashcash module is pre-loaded with SA 3.0.0,
and Mail::SpamAssassin::SpamCopURI with URI::* is loaded for older SA
versions. Small enhancements were made to amavisd-nanny.

[032] - getmail 4.1.0 (Stable)
by Charles Cazabon (http://freshmeat.net/users/twoflower/)
Tue, Aug 24th 2004 08:42
Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
Communications :: Email :: Filters
About: getmail is intended as a simple, secure, and reliable replacement
for fetchmail. It retrieves email (either all messages, or only unread
messages) from one or more POP3, SPDS, or IMAP4 servers (with or without
SSL) for one or more email accounts, and reliably delivers into
qmail-style Maildirs, mboxrd files, or through external MDAs (command
deliveries) specified on a per-account basis. getmail also has excellent
support for domain (multidrop) mailboxes, including delivering messages to
different users or destinations based on the envelope recipient address.
Changes: The biggest change is the multiple verbosity levels. To support
this from the rc file, the verbose parameter had to change from a boolean
value to an integer. The getmail rc files should be updated. For quiet,
set verbose to 0. For more output, set it to 1 or 2. 2 includes info about
messages not retrieved, etc. The rc filename was added to the error
messages. The fix from 4.0.11 for the email module raising exception
during .flatten() was changed. Some types of SSL errors could cause
getmail to exit instead of continuing to the next mail account; this has
been fixed.

About: graphviz is a set of graph drawing tools and libraries. It supports
hierarchical and mass-spring drawings; although the tools are scalable,
their emphasis is on making very good drawings of reasonably-sized graphs.
Package components include batch layout filters and interactive editors for
X11, Java, and a TCL/tk extension. The batch filters can be configured as a
web visualization service (using GIF and click-maps). A generic ActiveX
client-server component is a recent addition to this package. Typical
applications include display of finite state machines, software diagrams,
database schemas, and communication networks. This package contains the
layout commands dot, neato, and twopi, the interactive tools lefty, dotty,
lneato, tcldot, and gpr, and the graph stream processors gpr, ccomps,
colorize, gc, nop, prune, sccmap, tred, and unflatten. The Java graph
display client is named Grappa and is available as a separate package.
Changes: This release features improved font searching. There are fixes
for labels with blank lines sometimes failing to render, and for bitmap
formats sometimes not showing in export dialog.

[039] - GXPARSE 1.4
by Ian E. Gorman (http://freshmeat.net/users/iegorman/)
Tue, Aug 24th 2004 00:05
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML
About: GXPARSE is not a new parser, but is an additional processing layer
that makes it much easier to use event-based parsers like the SAX parser.
It supports both direct sequential output and a random access mode (the
Resequencer interface). The random access mode delays output until the end
of the input, but makes it much easier to handle ID/IDREF attributes.
GXPARSE maintains most advantages of the event-based parser. Application
development and maintenance is considerably easier, but processing is a
little slower.
Changes: API changes have been made to Parser, Listener, and
ElementMapper. These changes will be used to support namespaces, and to
support modular design in large applications.

Desktop Environment :: K Desktop Environment (KDE)
System :: Archiving
System :: Archiving :: Backup
About: KDE Disk archiver is a disk-based archiving and backup utility. It
can perform differential backups, which means that it can quickly store
the differences between a recent full backup and the current state of your
data. An archive browser easily allows you to view the "table of contents"
of your archive. A sophisticated file filtering mechanism allows you to
select which files and directories to backup or restore, and which files
to compress. The table of contents can be extracted from the archive and
used as a reference when making differential backups, which means you
don't need your archive CDs handy to do a differential backup of the
entire filesystem.
Changes: Basic printing functionality for message window output was added.
The message window can be cleared. Backup profiles allow the user to save
and restore creation and extraction settings. Creation messages are
displayed in the statusbar. This prevents the program from slowing down
for large archives. Feedback on the current slice and its size are
displayed in the statusbar during archive creation. The first slice sizes
of all media types can be changed. Creation progress is now presented to
the user.

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Editors
About: mpgedit is an MPEG 1 layer 1/2/3 (MP3), MPEG 2, and MPEG 2.5 audio
file editor that is capable of processing both Constant Bit Rate (CBR) and
Variable Bit Rate (VBR) encoded files. mpgedit can cut an input MPEG file
into one or more output files, as well as join one or more input MPEG
files into a single output file. Since no decoding or encoding occurs
during editing, there is no audio quality loss when editing with mpgedit.
mpgedit features command line, curses-based, and graphical interfaces. The
curses and graphical versions feature an interactive playback mode for fast
selection and verification of edit begin and end times.
Changes: The overall xmpgedit GUI was redesigned. A graphical waveform

[075] - Python milter 0.7.1
by Stuart D. Gathman (http://freshmeat.net/users/stuartdgathman/)
Tue, Aug 24th 2004 19:24
Communications :: Email :: Filters
About: The milter module for Python provides a python interface to
Sendmail's libmilter that exploits all its features. Milters can run on
the same machine as sendmail, or another machine. The milter can even run
with a different operating system or processor than sendmail. Sendmail
talks to the milter via a local or internet socket, and keeps the milter
informed of events as it processes a mail connection. At any point, the
milter can cut the conversation short by telling sendmail to ACCEPT,
REJECT, or DISCARD the message. After receiving a complete message from
sendmail, the milter can again REJECT or DISCARD it, but it can also
ACCEPT it with changes to the headers or body.
Changes: This release handles modifying mislabeled multipart messages
(i.e. spam) without an exception, and supports setbacklog and setmlreply.
Bmsmilter now allows multi- recipient CBV and return TEMPFAIL instead of
ACCEPT for SPF softfail.

reliably. Timestamps can be used if you prefer. SCons also supports
parallel builds and is easily extensible through user-defined builder and
scanner objects.
Changes: Packaging has been fixed for Mac OS X (darwin). Scanning
pre-compiled header (.pch) files has been fixed. Copying construction
environments that contain ListOption() options has been fixed. Visual
Studio project files now accomodate spaces in executable Python paths, and
