[001] - aircrack 1.4
by Christophe Devine (http://freshmeat.net/users/devine10/)
Thu, Aug 26th 2004 00:19
Security
About: aircrack is an 802.11 WEP cracking program that can recover a
40-bit or 104-bit WEP key once enough encrypted packets have been
gathered. It implements the standard FMS attack along with some
optimizations, thus making the attack much faster compared to other WEP
cracking tools.
Changes: This release fixes a bug in the WEP key checking function, and
features a complete rewrite of the airodump tool, which now displays
information in a fashion similar to Kismet.

[002] - aKregator 1.0-beta6
by fault (http://freshmeat.net/users/fault/)
Thu, Aug 26th 2004 08:20
Information Management
About: aKregator is a KDE RSS aggregator. It supports the best known
metaphors from existing aggregators. It also facilitates good integration
with KDE by maintaining an interface similar to Konqueror and KMail.
Changes: The focus of the release was enhanced usability. Akregator has
shed its old cumbersome multi-window interface and instead now uses a
standard feed list. Additionally, feed lists are now saved on the fly
without any user interaction. A number of new features were also added.
Akregator can now be configured to popup a notification balloon when new
articles are fetched. Lots of bugs and crashes have been fixed. Many
session management fixes were made. The kontact part works much more
reliably now.

System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions
About: Annvix is a Mandrakelinux-based secure Linux server distribution.
The goal is to provide an easy-to-use server distribution with high
security features including a secure kernel, gcc with SPP stack protection
patches, and secure defaults for all services. It also includes unique
features such as running all services under DJB's daemontools and auditing
tools such as rsec (msec's baby brother), tripwire, snort, and chkrootkit.
Changes: This release has an updated, more comprehensive installer on the
new net-install ISO. It also provides a 2.4.26 kernel with RSBAC support
(SELinux support has been removed). Other changes include moving from
FreeSWAN to OpenSwan, an updated srv tool to handle supervised services,
and updates for a number of packages to bring them to their latest stable

About: arpdetect is a Perl script that detects when the network you're
connected to changes. It does this by detecting changes in the MAC
address of a host you specify (usually a router), and executing various
commands. Actions can be re-run after a predetermined period.
Changes: This release adds an 'unknown' network status so you can perform
actions when you go offline. A bug was fixed where HUPs would not be
registered, and thus the configuration would not be re-read.

[014] - Cluster SSH 2.16 Beta (Beta)
by Duncs (http://freshmeat.net/users/djferguson/)
Thu, Aug 26th 2004 08:32
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
System :: Systems Administration
Utilities
About: Cluster SSH opens xterm windows with connections to specified hosts
and an administration console. Any text typed into the administration
console is replicated to all other connected and active windows. This tool
is intended for, but not limited to, cluster administration where the same
configuration or commands must be run on each node within the cluster.
Performing these commands all at once via this tool ensures all nodes are
kept in sync. This tool works on Solaris and Linux, and should work on
other POSIX systems (e.g. OpenBSD).
Changes: The need for setuid permissions was removed, and taint checks are
no longer required. Window tiling and user and system config files were
added. The arrow keys work. Arguments are passed to the underlying ssh
connection. The speed of making connections was increased. Failed
connections are now handled better. The focus in the Add Host dialogue was
fixed. More keyboard shortcuts and support for more operating systems
(Solaris, all Linux flavors, OpenBSD, Mac OS X, and HP-UX) were added.

by Michael K. Johnson (http://freshmeat.net/users/johnsonm/)
Thu, Aug 26th 2004 07:09
Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Installation/Setup
About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather then having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.
Changes: Debugger saves and emails were extended. Tracebacks were extended
with arguments and locals. More size optimizations were made for applying
changesets. Applying absolute changesets when a trove is already installed
is now much more efficient than it was. Self-referential symlinks raise a
packaging exception. Several bugs were fixed.

[017] - CyberTester 0.4.0
by Alexander Yap (http://freshmeat.net/users/alexycyap/)
Thu, Aug 26th 2004 06:39
Education :: Testing
About: CyberTester is a Web-based application that was originally
designed to allow educators to create tests, exams, and assignments
consisting of multiple-choice questions and assign them to students for
online testing. Students can login to take these tests and review their
results. It is suitable for integrating into online education services,
and is configurable enough to serve other purposes such as conducting
surveys or quizes. It uses J2EE (with EJB 2.0) and runs on JBoss.
Changes: This release adds image attachments (e.g. GIF/PNG/JPEG) to
question text and answer choices. Furthermore, the Question creation page
flow has been improved.

Thu, Aug 26th 2004 03:24
Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Post-Office
Communications :: Email :: Post-Office :: IMAP
About: The DBMAIL package replaces the normal UNIX mailing system. All
email and user data is stored in a database. You can create an unlimited
number of email accounts, which can be checked using the POP3 or IMAP
protocol. Users can maintain their own set of email addresses. It is more
scalable, more secure, and faster than traditional mail systems. DBMAIL
has storage drivers for PostgreSQL and MySQL, and it has authentication
drivers for PostgreSQL, MySQL, and LDAP.
Changes: dbmail-maintenance was renamed to dbmail-util to reflect the
fact that it is no longer only used for the maintenance of DBMail
databases, and dbmail-adduser was renamed to dbmail-users because it now
does more than only adding users. Both dbmail-util and dbmail-users now
use getopt() to get their command line parameters. This means that some
parameters have changed. The manual pages were also updated.

Information Management
Information Management :: Document Repositories
Information Management :: Records Management
About: DoXFS (pron. docs-eff-ess) is a document management system that
uses the XFS filesystem to store both content (files) and meta-data (file
attributes), bypassing the traditional architecture of filesystem and
database, and leveraging the built-in advantages of XFS. Currently, it
offers a Web frontend based on PHP and standard management functionality
(create, delete, attributes add/delete, etc.) as well as extras such as
versioning and Full Text Indexing (using Namazu).
Changes: This release modifies how the client loads the required
libraries to simplify inclusion from other clients. It fixes a bug in the
DoXFS Server in remove topic and all descendents, several small bugs in
the Web Client mainly dealing with an incorrect method call to
doxfsDocumentObject, and a problem with the topic tree not refreshing
after removing a topic. This version also adds a new "Success" message

[048] - MySQL Backup for lazy sysadmins 0.2
by paul kremer (http://freshmeat.net/users/nofutureuk/)
Thu, Aug 26th 2004 08:10
Database
System :: Archiving :: Backup
About: mysqlblasy is a Perl script for automating MySQL database backups.
It uses "mysqldump" for dumping mysql databases to the files sytem. It was
written with automated usage in mind. For example, it is silent during
operation, and only produces noise on errors/problems. It rotates backups
automatically to prevent the backup disk from getting full when the
administrator is on vacation (or is lazy).
Changes: Command line compression and archive utilities are now
automatically detected, with possible fallback to Archive::Tar (which is
now optional). The paths to the compression utilities and tar may now be
specified in the config file. An option for specifying the number of files
to keep in backup file rotation was added. Detection of mysqldump was
improved. The -Q option was added to quote table and column names. Several
typos were fixed.

[049] - Nabou Advanced Host Intrusion Detection System 2.2
by Tom (http://freshmeat.net/users/zarahg/)
Thu, Aug 26th 2004 20:00

About: nabou is a Perl program which can be used to monitor file changes
and directories on your system using MD5 checksums. It can also monitor
crontab entries, suid files, user accounts, listening TCP/UDP ports, and
processes. Nabou stores all data in standard dbm databases. Encrypted
databases are supported using RSA public key encryption. Nabou is highly
configurable; you can exclude files from being checked, configure which
file attributes it should look for, use custom checks, and much more.
Changes: This version uses now autoconf (configure) for installation
which makes things a lot easier for users, it fixes several encryption

[052] - nut 10.3
by Jim Jozwiak (http://freshmeat.net/users/jozwiak/)
Thu, Aug 26th 2004 08:36
Scientific/Engineering :: Medical Science Apps.
About: nut is nutrition software to record what you eat and analyze your
meals for nutrient composition. The database included is the USDA Nutrient
Database for Standard Reference, Release 17, which contains 6,839 foods and
128 nutrients. This database contains values for vitamins, minerals, fats,
calories, protein, carbohydrates, fiber, etc., and includes the essential
polyunsaturated fats, Omega-3 and Omega-6. Nutrient levels are expressed
as a percentage of the Daily Value, the familiar standard of food labeling
in the United States, but also can be fully customized. Foods can be added
from recipes or food labels, and nutrient intake can be graphed. The
program is completely menu-driven and there are no commands to learn.
Changes: This release offers a new personal options calorie level feature
that filters out insignificant day-to-day variation from meal analysis.
This feature sets the calories automatically to the user's average, and
when it analyzes meals, it takes the most current run of meals that
contains that average. Thus, nutrient levels are shown more accurately
because each analysis represents the same amount of food.

[061] - renameutils 0.5.0
by Oskar Liljeblad (http://freshmeat.net/users/osk/)
Thu, Aug 26th 2004 11:28
System
System :: Archiving
About: The file renaming utilities (renameutils for short) are a set of
programs designed to make renaming of multiple files faster and less
cumbersome. It currently consists of two programs: "qmv" and "imv". qmv
allows files to be renamed by editing their names in any text editor.
Since the files are listed after each other, this allows common changes to
be made more quickly. imv ("interactive mv") is trivial but useful when you
are too lazy to type (or even complete) the name of the file to rename. It
allows the filename to be edited in the terminal using the GNU readline
library. This is also useful when renaming files in Midnight Commander,
where the whole filename has to be entered again.
Changes: This release adds a new program, deurlname. Support for
internationalization has been added. A segmentation fault in the
dual-column edit format has been fixed. A bug that made it impossible to
rename files bigger than 2 GB has been fixed. Gnulib is now being used for
better portability to non-Linux systems.

compatible with sendmail but uses a much simpler configuration scheme.
Changes: This release is primarily a bugfix and clean-up release. It also
includes a first cut at message arrival and delivery delay accounting.
This release further adapts the makefiles to be portable between all
major variants of make in use on modern systems while at the same time
still supporting useful developer and maintainer features such as
automated dependency tracking.

[067] - Socat 1.4.0.1 (Stable)
by Gerhard Rieger (http://freshmeat.net/users/rieger/)
Thu, Aug 26th 2004 08:15
Utilities
About: Socat is a relay for bidirectional data transfer between two
independent data channels. Each of these data channels may be a file,
pipe, device (terminal or modem, etc.), socket (Unix, IP4, IP6 - raw, UDP,
TCP), a client for SOCKS4, proxy CONNECT, or SSL, etc. It provides forking,
logging, and dumping, different modes for interprocess communication, and
many more options. It can be used, for example, as a TCP relay (one-shot
or daemon), as a daemon-based socksifier, as a shell interface to Unix
sockets, as an IP6 relay, for redirecting TCP-oriented programs to a
serial line, or to establish a relatively secure environment (su and
chroot) for running client or server shell scripts with network
connections.
Changes: This release repairs the socks4a client code and fixes an issue
with the nofork option.

each one. Currently, weplab supports several methods, and it is able to
crack the WEP key from 600,000 encrypted packets.
Changes: New statistical attacks (Korek's attacks) were added. It is now
possible to crack the key even with less than 500k packets. A bug with the
second byte attack was fixed, but it remains to be tested in depth. BSSID
detection was added. Information about the time needed to crack the
current key was added, for benchmarking purposes. Some minor fixes in the
README file and Help were made.
