Sun, Aug 29th 2004 03:32
Software Development
About: KFormDesigner is meant to be Qt Designer replacement for KDE, and
to be a simple form designer for non-developers inside Kexi. It provides
almost all Qt Designer features (except code entering) and uses Qt
Designer UI file format. It also has new features, such as editing widget
contents inside forms, without dialogs, fully i18n properties, or dynamic
resizing of widgets to fit its contents when you edit it. One can extend
it by writing plugins (called factories) to manage more widgets, and
control a lot of things about this widget (editing, menu items, shown
properties, etc.). It is developed inside of the Kexi Project.
Changes: With this release, KFormDesigner is now a KPart. This will allow
its integration into KDevelop (which is just a matter of days) and

[036] - Nabou Advanced Host Intrusion Detection System 2.3
by Tom (http://freshmeat.net/users/zarahg/)
Sun, Aug 29th 2004 19:31

About: nabou is a Perl program which can be used to monitor file changes
and directories on your system using MD5 checksums. It can also monitor
crontab entries, suid files, user accounts, listening TCP/UDP ports, and
processes. Nabou stores all data in standard dbm databases. Encrypted
databases are supported using RSA public key encryption. Nabou is highly
configurable; you can exclude files from being checked, configure which
file attributes it should look for, use custom checks, and much more.
Changes: This release adds more encryption fixes, and adds a new feature:
signature generation for the ids database entries. The new default hash
algorithm is now SHA1, and you can now use more than one hash digest to
verify file integrity.

Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
Communications :: Email :: Post-Office :: IMAP
About: Nail is a mail user agent derived from Berkeley Mail 8.1. It is
intended to provide the functionality of the POSIX mailx command with
built-in support for MIME messages, IMAP (including caching and
disconnected operations), POP3, and SMTP. Nail offers its full command set
both for interactive and batch use, and is especially useful for sending
attachments from scripts or for reading mail via slow connections and on
bad terminals. In recent system environments, nail is Unicode/UTF-8
capable.
Changes: A bug in the SSL/X509 DNS name verification was fixed; it
sometimes caused segmentation faults. A 'cache' command was added to put
specific messages into the IMAP cache for later use in disconnected mode;
in the same way, the 'disconnected' command also accepts a list of
messages to be cached. The 'exit' commands causes no change to the 'read'
status of messages in IMAP folders now, as it always did with regular
folders. The 'connect' command now announces new messages that are found
on the server. The 'replyto' variable can now contain multiple addresses.

specific services like POP3, SMTP, Ping. The main goal is to have a system
that monitors network devices and produces alerts when problem occurs or a
device is inaccessable. Alert rules can be defined based on variables from
the database or received from remote devices. It has reporting and
performance charts, and supports small and medium-sized networks. It has
no external dependencies; everything runs on AOLserver. Net-SNMP agents
are reqired for (optional) OSSMON-MIB support but optional. It has an easy

[044] - ProGuard 3.0
by Eric Lafortune (http://freshmeat.net/users/lafortune/)
Sun, Aug 29th 2004 06:02
Software Development :: Build Tools
Software Development :: Code Generators
About: ProGuard is a free Java class file shrinker, optimizer, and
obfuscator. It can detect and remove unused classes, fields, methods, and
attributes. It can then optimize bytecode and remove unused instructions.
Finally, it can rename the remaining classes, fields, and methods using
short meaningless names. The resulting jars are more compact and more
difficult to reverse-engineer. Advantages of ProGuard compared to other
Java shrinkers and obfuscators are compact template-based configuration,
memory efficiency, and speed.
Changes: ProGuard can now perform a bytecode optimization step in between
the shrinking step and the obfuscation step. It reads and writes nested
jars and directories, with filters. Input and output can also be grouped,
improving control over what goes where. Mapping files can now apply to
library classes. The Ant task has been rewritten. The J2ME WTK plugin and
the GUI have been updated. Various small bugs have been fixed. The
documentation and examples have been updated.

[045] - psycopg 1.99.8 (Development)
by Federico Di Gregorio (http://freshmeat.net/users/fog/)
Sun, Aug 29th 2004 22:03
Database
Software Development :: Libraries
About: psycopg is a PostgreSQL database adapter for the Python programming
language. Its main advantages are that it supports the full Python DBAPI
2.0 and it is thread safe at level 2. It was designed for heavily
multi-threaded applications that create and destroy lots of cursors and
make a conspicuous number of concurrent INSERTs or UPDATEs. The psycopg
distribution includes ZPsycopgDA, a Zope Database Adapter.
Changes: This release added support for Unicode queries and automatic
conversion of PostgreSQL strings to Python Unicode objects. Cursors now
support the iterator protocol and have two new methods (.fileno() and
isready()) that make them directly usable in select() calls. A memory
corruption bug on Win32 and time rounding errors were also fixed.

[053] - Studs MVC Framework+ 0.9.3

Sun, Aug 29th 2004 00:11
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: Studs MVC Framework+ contains a port of Apache's Jakarta Struts to
PHP, though the libraries included in the rest of the project are much
more vast. In order to implement the Struts port, it was necessary to
build a core, object-oriented API in the style of the JDK and the Jakarta
Commons, a servlet container to handle HTTP requests and to invoke
servlet classes, and finally, a parsing engine for JSP-style template
pages. In the end, the result is an environment which is very similar to
that provided by a J2EE Web Container, only everything is implemented in
PHP. While it was possible to carry over many of the concepts, designs
and mechanisms from J2EE, some limitations do exist due to the nature of
the PHP programming language, such as the lack of checked exceptions
(runtime only).
Changes: The most critical change is a fix to a reference error in
PageContext which was causing infinite loops and random results in pages
using EL expressions. Additional items to note are the log category
feature and a fix for the handling of the root context.

crack WEP despite weak IV avoidance firmware. Dictionary attack has been
implemented (uzy), but not fully tested. Now rejected bytes are never
tested. Minor bugs have been fixed, and there are speed improvements in

About: xpad is a paperless substitute for leaving sticky notes, index
cards, or "post-it" notes all over your desk. It opens small text boxes on
the X display so that notes can be written and then left to be read later.
Changes: Pads remember their hidden state, the toolbar has been rewritten,
preferences are simplified, and new Afrikaans and French translations have
been added. GTK+ 2.4 is now a requirement.
