by Slicer (http://freshmeat.net/users/slicer/)
Mon, Aug 30th 2004 20:53
Games/Entertainment :: Role-Playing
About: 3rd Edition Dungeons and Dragons Character Generator is an
HTML/JavaScript Web page that allows the user to quickly and easily create
new Dungeons and Dragons characters. The characters can be of any of the

spells. It runs on most operating systems with most modern browsers.
Changes: This release adds some new features and fixes some bugs. Rangers
and Monks now get their bonus feats. Wizard bonus feats have been fixed.

[006] - anti win popup batch war script for samba 1.20
by Omer Qadir (http://freshmeat.net/users/oqadir/)
Mon, Aug 30th 2004 04:30
About: anti win popup batch war script for samba tests any incoming popup
message with information stored about the previous message received. If
the message is different, it is displayed using gdialog. In this way, any
attempts to continuously send messages and overload the remote host using
a batch are foiled. The script maintains a configuration file that stores
the previous message information. This configuration file needs no editing
by the user and will be automatically generated and maintained in the home
directory.
Changes: If the new message text is different, the script also checks the
time difference between the two messages. If the difference is less than a
user-defined value, the new message will be discarded as a batch war
message. Otherwise it is displayed. Two new configuration file variables
have been added to the configuration file.

file with the article text, if available, can be easily linked and renamed
by dragging it onto the cb2Bib window. Reference manager applications can
later retrieve, import, and display these BibTeX references.
Changes: Wrong recognition of "First SP, Second WE, " was fixed. kfmclient
is used experimentally to retrieve PDF files. Automatic URL recognition was
improved. BibTeX fields "eprint" and "doi" were added.

[011] - Conary 0.8.2
by Michael K. Johnson (http://freshmeat.net/users/johnsonm/)
Mon, Aug 30th 2004 20:45
Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Installation/Setup
About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather then having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.
Changes: The source code has been re-arranged for easier maintenance, and
conary has been split into two programs: conary and cvc. You can now
install multiple troves at once (even a combination of changeset files and
troves from repositories), and the entire action is recorded in a single
rollback (this required a change in command-line arguments for updating
troves). Support for searching multiple repositories for new troves was
started. Better error messages and debugging tracebacks were also added.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: Echo is a framework for developing object-oriented, event-driven

in terms of "page-based" applications and enables him/her to develop
applications using the conventional object-oriented and event-driven
paradigm for user interface development. Knowledge of HTML, HTTP, and
JavaScript is not required. Tutorials, white papers, and full API
documentation are available.
Changes: The changes made to the HTML rendering code in the previous
release were reverted to solve rendering issues with certain EchoPoint
components. Bugs were fixed in DefaultListModel, where events of the wrong
type were being fired in response to item additions/removals. A
nextapp.echo.Table rendering issue where invalid values were being

About: Emerde is a port of Gentoo's portage system that installs, removes,
updates, and maintains your system rapidly and easily. On Slackware, it
cooperates with the package database and allows you to install .tgz files
directly using dependency checking.
Changes: Portage was updated to the 2.0.50-r9 version. Semerde.stop was
created. It is launched at runlevel 0 and 6 to shut down all the programs
started by rc.emerde at boot time. An RSYNC_URL option has been added to
the installation procedure. It permits downloading the portage from
another machine. The syncing of the portage can be done using another
machine that has already done it. pkg2por is more accurate: if it doesn't
find the right version ebuild, it downloads it. --upgradepkg was added to
emerde. With this option, all the installpkg operations will use
upgradepkg instead.

[073] - Supybot 0.79.99
by jemfinch (http://freshmeat.net/users/jemfinch/)
Mon, Aug 30th 2004 08:02
Communications :: Chat :: Internet Relay Chat
About: Supybot is a clearly-written Python IRC framework and bot, intended
to be both easily extensible and very flexible. Several modules are
included by default. Numerous plugins are already written, including
Google, Factoids, RSS, Quotes, and Relay. Plugins and their commands
achieve greater utility via command nesting, something that no other IRC
bot does. The user database is based on "capabilities" rather than obscure
flags or arbitrary numeric "userlevels", giving the bot flexibility and
fine-grained control (think ACLs vs. standard *nix permissions).
Developing your own additions to the bot is simple with the base classes
provided; writing a new command for the bot is as simple as writing a
function. Unlike many other IRC frameworks, this simplicity is achieved at
no cost to generality, which lets new programmers and old programmers alike
feel at home in the framework.
Changes: Bugs involving quitting with and without multiple servers, RSS
announcements, bugs in the Poll commands list and poll, and problems with
using the Services plugin to identify were fixed. Later was fixed so that
more than one message per nick can be queued. A "clear" command was added
to the Karma plugin, a "redo" command was added to the Topic plugin, an
"action" command was added to the Anonymous plugin, and a configuration
variable was added for usermodes that the bot will request.

[075] - Vstr string library 1.0.13
by Nevyn (http://freshmeat.net/users/nevyn/)
Mon, Aug 30th 2004 02:09
Software Development :: Libraries
About: Vstr is a safe and fast string library for C. It is designed for
network communication. Its design uses chunks of ptr+length data, so
adding, substituting, and deleting data are all fast operations. This
model also allows it to do automatic referencing for mmap() areas of
memory. Shortcut APIs are included to mmap() a file into a Vstr string,
and read()/write() data to/from a Vstr string. Another big feature of the
library is a POSIX and ISO 9899:1999 compliant printf() like function,
which can also be extended with user supplied formatters that are gcc
warning compatible. The total API is over 280 functions, but laid out in a
easy to remember manner, including data parsing functions, a
non-destructive split() function, and conversion functions (among others).
Changes: Additional unit testing code was added, giving 100% code
coverage that tests every line of code in the library. Some functions
were added to assist with working with binary data, using iterators,
doing user friend byte output with large numbers, and working with
things like gmp. The build system is now much nicer with the examples
being built by default, compilation on FreeBSD working by default, and
LFS support being more developer friendly. Some work was made on the
RPMs.

[077] - Webcockpit 1.2.0
by Peter Klauser (http://freshmeat.net/users/pjk/)
Mon, Aug 30th 2004 01:56
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation
Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization
About: Webcockpit is a Web application generator for reporting and
monitoring applications. It generates complete JSP-based Web applications
which contain charts and tables whose contents are retrieved using
database queries. The charts and tables can be configured to link to each
other, enabling master detail-like drill-down. You can provide your own
HTML or JSP template files which are mixed with the generated JSP to
provide a final Web application.
Changes: It is now possible to 'hide' table columns in the HTML table
representation. The hidden columns can be used in the binding of visible
columns. Bind variable names no longer need be globally unique, and the
same bind variable name can be used multiple times for the same query
(but not between queries). This reduced the number of page parameters
required for complex queries. The proper JSTL sql:param construct was
used for bind variables. An xy charts page was added to the simple
example.

Mon, Aug 30th 2004 07:58
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
About: XDBCMS is a Web-based, multi-user CMS that can manage any number of
Web sites, each site with any number of pages, and each site organised in a
tree-based menu that can be any depth. Where XDBCMS differs from most
content management systems is that it actually generates a stand-alone Web
site, which requires no database to drive it, can be 'released' to any Web
server, and would be able to cope with very large numbers of users. For
the authors, it features a WYSIWYG editor, similar to MS-Word in
appearance, allowing full control over the format (tables, fonts,
graphics, etc.) of each individual page. It allows multiple authors and
features a group-based security system.
Changes: A page templates facility was added to give complete control over
Web page layout. Standard blocks of HTML may also be used. A broken image
