[001] - abcm2ps 4.7.0 (Development)
by Guido Gonzato (http://freshmeat.net/users/goccia/)
Wed, Sep 1st 2004 01:17
Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Conversion
About: abcm2ps is a package that converts music tunes from ABC format to
PostScript. Based on abc2ps version 1.2.5, it was developed mainly to
print baroque organ scores that have independant voices played on one or
more keyboards, and a pedal-board. It introduces many extensions to the
ABC language that make it suitable for classical music.
Changes: This release fixes minor bugs and adds the new features
'%%beginps' .. '%%endps', and 'K:none' and 'K: clef=none', and accepts
spaces after '%%' in pseudo-comments.

[002] - Achievo ATK 5.0.4
by Ivo Jansch (http://freshmeat.net/users/ivoibs/)
Wed, Sep 1st 2004 13:52
Database :: API
Database :: Front-Ends
Information Management
About: Achievo ATK is an object oriented Web-application framework. It is
targeted at developers who wish to focus on business logic instead of
coding HTML. Where other application frameworks mainly provide a large set
of utility classes, ATK provides a complete framework that requires only
small amounts of code to get usable applications, while maintaining full
flexibility. In other words, even 10 lines of code get you a working
application, but everything that is generated for you can be completely
customized.
Changes: 'Privacy Enhancing Technologies' were added, an
atkCurrencyAttribute for manipulating currencies was added, the API has
been enhanced with several new methods, PostgreSQL support has been
improved, several bugs were fixed, a Spanish translation has been added,
and the German and Russian translations have been updated.

About: The Advanced Linux Sound Architecture is composed of several parts.
The first is a fully modularized sound driver which supports module
autoloading, devfs, isapnp autoconfiguration, and gives complete access to
analog audio, digital audio, control, mixer, synthesizer, DSP, MIDI, and
timer components of audio hardware. It also includes a fully-featured
kernel-level sequencer, a full compatibility layer for OSS/Free
applications, an object-oriented C library which covers and enhances the
ALSA kernel driver functionality for applications (client/server, plugins,
PCM sharing/multiplexing, PCM metering, etc.), an interactive configuration
program for the driver, and some simple utilities for basic management.

Communications :: Chat :: AOL Instant Messenger
Communications :: Chat :: ICQ
About: AutoProfile is an extension to Gaim that allows users to create
customized away messages and profiles using dynamic "components" that
automatically update on a regular basis. Generated text can include song
names from XMMS, Winamp, iTunes, or Windows Media Player, statistics
regarding saved conversation logs, a countdown/countup timer, fortune
quotes, computer uptime, the contents of a Web page or a text file, the
output of a program, and timestamps. A large number of options allows
users to fully customize the program as they see fit.
Changes: This release adds a component that analyzes conversation logs
and produces a variety of statistics to display from them. Users can also
now specify a snippet of text for away message when going away for
convenience. This version is updated to use latest Gaim API and command
system, and fixes a small bug that caused a crash from time to time.

[014] - Conary 0.9.0
by Michael K. Johnson (http://freshmeat.net/users/johnsonm/)
Wed, Sep 1st 2004 08:42
Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Installation/Setup
About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather then having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.
Changes: Conary can now create a single changeset that represents multiple
troves from multiple repositories. The repository server now transfers
multiple independent changesets to resolve requests, which will enable
changeset caching in the future. In order to enable this, the repository
protocol changed, so a manual update is required (see
http://wiki.specifixinc.com/ConaryConversion for details).

About: KAlarm lets you configure personal messages to be displayed,
commands to be executed, or emails to be sent, at scheduled times. It
allows you to choose the message font and color, how often to repeat,
whether to display an advance reminder, whether to play a sound when the

[029] - Kodo JDO 3.1.5 (Production)
by Chox (http://freshmeat.net/users/neelan/)
Wed, Sep 1st 2004 01:15
Database :: API
About: Kodo JDO allows you to write database calls using Java statements
instead of SQL statements, by supporting the Java Data Objects standard
for transparent persistence. It is the most complete implementation of the
JDO specification for relational data stores, and comes with tools for
producing a schema from an object model, producing class files from an
existing schema, and a performance pack (distributed caching and statement
batching) that improves performance by 15 - 30 times. It supports most
relational databases, application servers, and IDEs, and reduces the total
coding effort by 20-40%.
Changes: When setting kodo.ProfilingInterface to export, default export
interval is now -1, indicating that only a final export will be created.
Also, a number of bugfixes were made, including for a possible exception
when attaching a new embedded object, checking for lock-group when using
state- image version indicators, production of a final profiling export
when setting kodo.ProfilingInterface to export, and a fix for
DBDictionary to allow column auto-increment sequence names longer than 31
by adding a MaxCharactersInAutoIncrement property.

Changes: lalaCVSMail_debug has now 2 steps in increasing verbosity
(described in the README). The output and output-preparing code was moved
into functions. The output functions are called if all data which is
needed for displaying is archived, and the CVS-raw file is not processed

About: PXES is a micro Linux distribution for thin clients that converts
any suitable machine into a versatile thin client within minutes. It can
access XDM servers presenting a graphical login screen, Microsoft Terminal
Servers, Citrix ICA, and VNC servers, LTSP, or a local X session with
simple desktop and window manager. A graphical configuration tool allows
parameters such as the server to be set. Local devices can be accessed,
including sound, printers, and disks. It boots on a variety of hardware,
and does not require NFS. It can be used over low bandwidth WAN and VPN
connections, and can also be booted from local media like hard disk and
CD-ROMs where network boot cannot be used.
Changes: This is a giant leap towards PXES 1.0, and a lot of functionality

[060] - scdbackup 0.8.2
by scdbackup (http://freshmeat.net/users/scdbackup/)
Wed, Sep 1st 2004 03:55
System :: Archiving :: Backup
Utilities
About: scdbackup is a simplified CD/DVD backup program for Linux. It can
back up large amounts of data on one or more media, with no special tools
needed for reading the backup. It supports ISO9660 filesystems and afio
archives. Its special features are automatic division of data into
multiple volumes, verification of write success, and incremental backups.
An information script on each volume tells where a certain file may be
found. CDs get written via cdrecord. DVDs get written via growisofs.
Changes: Several pitfalls around the use of DVD have been removed. The
program's behavior in case of failure has been clarified. Installation
instructions have been overhauled to prevent trusted users' unreliable
software from infringing other users' backup installations.

System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring
About: SNMPTT is an SNMP trap handler written in Perl for use with the
NET-SNMP/UCD-SNMP snmptrapd program. Received traps are translated into
friendly messages using variable substitution. Output can be to STDOUT,
text log file, syslog, NT Event Log, MySQL (Linux/Windows), PostgreSQL, or
an ODBC database. User defined programs can also be executed.
Changes: Various improvments were added for SQL database connections,
including database auto-reconnect and logging of unknown traps. New
variable substitutions were added for the trap description and formatting,
such as newline and form feed. Statistical info on the number of traps
received or processed is now logged. Various bugs were fixed, including
issues with symbolic traps, MIB conversion, and FORMAT/EXEC line parsing.

Wed, Sep 1st 2004 23:58
Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Debuggers
Software Development :: Interpreters
About: Steel Bank Common Lisp is a development environment for Common
Lisp, with excellent support for the ANSI standard: garbage collection,
lexical closures, powerful macros, strong dynamic typing, incremental
compilation, and the famous Common Lisp Object System (multimethods and
all). It also includes many extensions, such as native threads, socket
support, a statistical profiler, programmable streams, and more. These are
all available through an integrated, interactive native compiler which
feels like an interpreter. SBCL is unique in being a multiplatform native
compiler which bootstraps itself completely from source, using a C
compiler and any other ANSI Common Lisp implementation.
Changes: This release included many enhancements to the user manual,
including for the SB-BSD-SOCKETS, SB-GRAY, SB-SIMPLE-STREAMS, SB-PROFILE,
and ASDF modules. Backtraces from the debugger should now be much more
useful. The ALIEN foreign function interface now supports mutually
referent structures. Many bugfixes were incorporated and optimizations
were added for large number GCD and modular arithmetic shifts.

[075] - Wi.Ser Beta 0.3.0
by dvdw (http://freshmeat.net/users/dvdw/)
Wed, Sep 1st 2004 03:42
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: Wi.Ser is a Java/XML server-side GUI-framework which enables an
application to run as either a monolithic Swing app, a client/server Swing
app, or as a Web app without any change. It includes a mixed deployment
mode, which supports one server to serve Swing clients and Web clients at
the same time. The framework uses XML to define an application's GUI. It
provides a common widget-based, object-oriented programming interface for
Web and Swing GUIs, which prevents the developer from struggling with HTML
and HTTP or with the internals of Swing. For Swing client/server
applications the client/server split as well as the client/server
communication is handled transparently by the framework. The project
includes a GUI builder that is based on the framework's functionality
(screenshot, deployed as a Web/HTML application).
Changes: This version fixes the memory consumption problem for
WebWidgets, the WebListBox renders correctly now, errors in template kits
for Gecko-based browsers are fixed and the minimize function of WebWindows
and WebDialogs works correctly now.
