[011] - CD Input and Control Library 0.70
  by R. Bernstein (http://freshmeat.net/users/rocky/)
  Thu, Sep 2nd 2004 19:11

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: CD Audio
Multimedia :: Video
Software Development :: Libraries

About: The Compact Disc Input and Control library encapsulates CD-ROM
reading and control. Applications wishing to be oblivious of the OS- and
device-dependent properties of a CD-ROM can use this library. Some support
for disk image types like BIN/CUE, cdrdao, and NRG is available. Therefore,
applications that use this library also have the ability to read disc
images as though they were CDs. A library for working with ISO-9660
filesystems is included, as are utility programs for displaying CD and
CD-ROM drive information, reading the blocks of a CD, and extracting files
from an ISO-9660 filesytem image.

Changes: This release adds an API to issue SCSI MMC commands, CD-Text
support, the ability to distinguish DVDs from CDs, better image CUE
parsing, and some bugfixes.

  Thu, Sep 2nd 2004 19:49

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: Cgiapp.class.php is a port of CGI::Application to PHP. It utilizes
Smarty as its default templating engine, much as CGI::Application uses
HTML::Template, due to its prevalence and acceptance in the PHP community.
Due to PHP's built-in session support, it also adds two methods, s_param()
and s_delete(), to handle session parameters. A number of static methods
have also been included to facilitate error handling and array/hash
conversion.

Changes: Two minor bugs producing warnings were reported and fixed:
cgiapp_postrun() should now be written to expect a reference (run() no
longer passes the reference), and a check to see if $_header_props has
been set is made before attempting to load them. In addition some minor
documentation tweaks were made to work with PhpDoc on PHP5.

[019] - DOMIT! 0.96
  by John Heinstein (http://freshmeat.net/users/jheinstein/)
  Thu, Sep 2nd 2004 17:51

Internet
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML

About: DOMIT! is an XML parser for PHP. It is lightweight, fast, and
implements a generous subset of the DOM Level 1 specification. The primary
goal of DOMIT! is to provide PHP developers with a standards-compliant
means of working with XML, thus ensuring more portable and communicable
code. DOMIT! is not an extension; it is written purely in PHP and should
therefore run on any Web hosting platform with PHP 4 and above installed.
DOMIT! requires coupling with a SAX parser. You can use either the SAXY
parser that comes bundled with DOMIT! or the Expat parser that is included
in most later PHP distributions.

Changes: This release implements namespace support and most of the DOM
Level 2 spec. SAX errors are now accessible via the DOM Document, and the
expandEmptyElementsTags method has been modified so that exceptions to the
expansion rule can be specified.

[020] - Domo 2.4
  by Dirk Gorissen (http://freshmeat.net/users/BubbaDoe/)
  Thu, Sep 2nd 2004 07:28

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio

About: Domo is a music organizer which indexes digital audio sources,
extracts all possible information and inserts everything into a database.
The database can then be queried, exported, and compared with other
digital audio sources. Musicbrainz support is also available to
automatically add audio CDs and to look up unknown tracks based on their
TRM audio fingerprint.

Changes: id3lib was replaced with taglib for better metatag setting and
editing. The customizibility was increased to allow custom track formats
and other things. Support for setting the score and mood of tracks was
provided. Other changes include more powerful querying, improved
consistency checking, genre centric browsing, and more collection

  by Thibault Godouet (http://freshmeat.net/users/fcron/)
  Thu, Sep 2nd 2004 19:23

System

About: Fcron is a periodical command scheduler which aims at replacing
vixie cron, so it implements most of its functionality. It does not assume
that your system is running either all the time or regularly: you can, for
instance, tell fcron to execute tasks every x hours y minutes of system
uptime or to do a job only once in a specified interval of time. You can
also set a nice value to a job, run it depending on the system load
average, and much more.

Changes: This release contains two major bugfixes, some new commands for
fcrondyn, and several minor changes and bugfixes.

[024] - gpgdir 0.9
  by Michael Rash (http://freshmeat.net/users/michaelrash/)
  Thu, Sep 2nd 2004 19:09

Security :: Cryptography

About: gpgdir is a Perl script that uses the CPAN GnuPG module to encrypt
and decrypt directories using a GPG key specified in ~/.gpgdirrc. It
supports recursively descending through a directory in order to make sure
it encrypts or decrypts every file in a directory and all of its
subdirectories. In order to help save space, all files can optionally be
compressed using gzip before encryption and decompressed upon decryption.
In addition, gpgdir is careful not to encrypt hidden files and
directories.

Changes: This release adds a --gnupg-dir option to allow a user to specify
a different user's .gnupg directory for encryption keys and switches to
"[+]" (and related) message prefixes.

  Thu, Sep 2nd 2004 00:19

System :: Hardware
Utilities

About: hdparm is a Linux shell utility for viewing and manipulating
various IDE drive and driver parameters. Most drives can benefit from
improved performance using a command similar to "hdparm -qm8 -qu1 -qc1
-qd1 /dev/hda".

Changes: The output of NULs in -I string fields was fixed along with
big-endian -I crashes. The remains of defunct major-number checks were
removed, and support for the BLKGETSIZE64 IOCTL was added. A --direct
flag that uses O_DIRECT on device open was implemented. -Istdin and

[028] - Java Date Picker 3.1
  by Cosmina Stefanache (http://freshmeat.net/users/Cosmina/)
  Thu, Sep 2nd 2004 06:28

Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries

About: Java Date Picker is a suite of Swing components capable of powerful
date selection operations. It resembles the Microsoft Date Picker used in
Outlook. It allows users to select single or multiple dates, and can
restrict dates to keep users from making mistakes. It contains a
validating date/time editor for fast keyboard input, and a calendar so
that users can view and select dates by means of an intuitive interface.
Internationalization is supported, as well as simple customization of
properties like colors and font.

Changes: In this version, the tutorial groups all product information
together to make it more accessible. The tutorial was improved to be the
main source of information about Java Date Picker. The date selection API
was improved. setSelectedDates was added to JMonth and setSelectedDate was
added to JDateComponent. Calendar grid customization and status bar
visibility control were added. JMonthView was improved to fill all the
space when resized. The demo application was restructured. It is explained
entirely by the tutorial. Bugfixes were made.

Communications :: File Sharing
Internet

About: JXTA technology is a set of open protocols that allow any connected
device on the network ranging from cell phones and wireless PDAs to PCs and
servers to communicate and collaborate in a P2P manner. JXTA peers create a
virtual network where any peer can interact with other peers and resources
directly even when some of the peers and resources are behind firewalls
and NATs or are on different network transports. The project goals are
interoperability across different peer-to-peer systems and communities,
platform independence, multiple/diverse languages, systems, and networks,
and ubiquity: every device with a digital heartbeat.

Changes: This release includes a new implementation of the TLS transport.
It implements java.net.Socket, and there are some important bugfixes. This
release requires four fewer jars than past releases, and is over 500k
smaller than JXTA J2SE 2.3.

[034] - LILO 22.6
  by John Coffman (http://freshmeat.net/users/johncoffman/)
  Thu, Sep 2nd 2004 17:56

System :: Boot

About: LILO is a Boot loader for Linux/x86 and other PC operating systems.
It is responsible for loading your Linux kernel from either a floppy or a
hard drive and passing control to it. It is capable of booting beyond
cylinder 1024 of a hard disk if the BIOS supports EDD packet call
extensions to the int 0x13 interface. LILO can also be used to boot many
other operating systems, including DOS, Windows (all versions), OS/2, and
the BSD variants. The LILO distribution includes full source,
documentation and support files.

Changes: This version adds the keyword "unattended" for noisy serial line
boot consoles. It provides for compilation on 64-bit Linux (IA-64),
removes NASM dependency for compilation, allows "root=" to use
"LABEL=name" syntax, adds the local image descriptor keyword
"addappend=", provides for servers with many hard disks, and adds
workarounds for known BIOS incompatibilities.

[035] - Linux Bandwidth Arbitrator 9.07 (CD distribution)
  by astormchaser (http://freshmeat.net/users/astormchaser/)
  Thu, Sep 2nd 2004 21:42

System :: Networking
System :: Systems Administration

About: Linux Bandwidth Arbitrator allows beginning-to-advanced network
administrators to control bandwidth. It is designed to be completely
turn-key in its default configuration. You just plug it into your network
trunk, and it self configures and immediately starts slowing "bandwidth
hogs". It can be configured to target specific applications such as Kazaa,
IMAP, and POP. It is compatible with the 2.4.25 kernel, ebtables, and
brouter (bridging router). It also comes with denial of service
protection.

Changes: This release has been optimized and tested for stability. It has
been stress tested on P4 systems with 60 megabits of traffic. It is also
now totally free with a two hour time limit. New features include the
addition of the User limit utility into the GUI (which was previously
command line only). This utility allows users to set bandwidth byte total
limits for users over an hour, day, or month. It will automatically
perform administrator-defined actions should a user exceed their total
byte limit.

[037] - Metabase 2004.09.02
  by Manuel Lemos (http://freshmeat.net/users/mlemos/)
  Thu, Sep 2nd 2004 19:23

Database :: Front-Ends
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: Metabase consists of a set of PHP classes to access and manage
databases using an API that assures DBMS independence. It supports MySQL,
PostgreSQL, Oracle, Microsoft SQL server, Microsoft Access, ODBC,
Interbase, Informix, MiniSQL, and SQLite flat file databases. There is a
function library that interfaces with DBMS specific driver classes, a
parser class that interperts a custom XML format used to describe database
schemas, and a manager class that installs database schema objects (tables,
indexes, sequences) using the Metabase API. The manager class is also able
to upgrade a previously installed database to a new schema without
affecting that data that was stored since the database was installed or
was upgraded for the last time. There is also schema reverse engineering
support to help migrate database-specific applications and start using
Metabase.

Changes: The detection of the type of query has been fixed in several
driver classes to also consider tabs and line breaks as SQL command
separators. The Metabase schema manager class has been fixed to deal
correctly with simultaneous table renaming and index dropping. The MySQL
schema manager extension class has been fixed to retrieve the correct
table index names and also to suppress warnings when creating and dropping
databases. The Interbase schema manager class has been fixed to create and
drop databases correctly. The Metabase schema XSL stylesheet has been
improved to display field lengths and the page background correctly.

  Thu, Sep 2nd 2004 00:16

Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Compilers
System :: Networking

About: MIB Smithy is an application for SNMP and COPS developers, MIB and
PIB designers, and Internet-draft authors. It provides a GUI-based
environment for designing, editing, and compiling MIB and PIB modules
according to the SMIv1, SMIv2, and COPS-PR-SPPI standards. It accelerates
the development process by providing an easy-to-use GUI-based environment
for developing the specifications without the syntax and formatting
concerns of editing the modules by hand. It includes a number of built-in
basic SNMP management tools, XML support, and (with MIB Smithy
Professional) support for custom compiler output formats.

Changes: This release fixed support for filenames with spaces in the Open
Project and Recent File menus, which was broken with the earlier addition
of multiple-file selection in the Add Files dialog. Launching help on
Windows should no longer open an empty Web browser if the HTML file
association lacks a "%1" substitution string. The Site Map link in the
"Muonics on the Web" help sub-menu was corrected.

[055] - Pluto 1.2
  by Ben (http://freshmeat.net/users/sneftel/)
  Thu, Sep 2nd 2004 21:43

Software Development :: Libraries

About: Pluto is a library which allows users to write arbitrarily large
portions of the "Lua universe" into a flat file, and later read them back
into the same or a different Lua universe. Object references are
appropriately handled, such that the file contains everything needed to
recreate the objects in question. It can persist any Lua function, can
persist threads, works with any Lua chunkreader/chunkwriter, supports
"invariant" permanent objects of all datatypes, and can invoke
metafunctions for custom persistence of tables and user data.

Changes: This release offers increased stability by avoiding the use of
auxlib buffer functions (which were not written to be used concurrently
with a library like Pluto). Additionally, open upvalues are now supported.

  by Anderl (http://freshmeat.net/users/birgander/)
  Thu, Sep 2nd 2004 05:56

Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Geographical
Scientific/Engineering :: Image Recognition

About: RAT (Radar Tools) is a small collection of tools for processing SAR
(synthetic aperture radar) remote sensing data, packed together in a nice
graphical user interface. It is easy to extend, and should bring modern
SAR algorithms to a wider user base by simplifying in particular the data
handling and processing of complex SAR data.

Changes: Modules were added for Moyiama decomposition, Lee's category
preserving classification, RoA-MSP edge detector, and calculation of the
variation coefficient. Additionally, several bugs were fixed.

  Thu, Sep 2nd 2004 17:54

Office/Business
Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics

About: RKward provides an extensible, easy to use GUI for the R project,
which will one day seamlessly integrate with KOffice. It attempts to
combine the power of the R language with the relative ease of use of
commercial tools such as SPSS.

Changes: This release adds the ability to open command editor window(s)
with open/save/print support. Several windows were given more meaningful
titles, and menus were restructured. Adding new variables now works
reliably, and changes in the list of object (variable additions,
removals, renamings) are reflected in the different components
immediately.

[060] - RTFX 0.9.4
  by Nate Nielsen (http://freshmeat.net/users/natenielsen/)
  Thu, Sep 2nd 2004 05:21

Text Processing :: Markup :: XML

About: rtfx converts RTF files into a generic XML format. It focuses on
keeping metadata such as style names rather than every bit of formatting.
This makes it handy for converting RTF documents into a custom XML format
(using XSL or an additional processing step). It used to be called 'rtfm',
but was changed due to a naming conflict.

Changes: This release contains major speed improvements. It is up to 100
times faster for very large files. Support for ANSI was added. It no
longer depends on Sablotron or any other dependencies.

[063] - s11n 0.9.12
  by stephan beal (http://freshmeat.net/users/s11n/)
  Thu, Sep 2nd 2004 19:43

About: s11n ("serialization") is a C++ library for easily serializing a
wide variety of objects, including PODs, arbitrary streamable types, and
user-defined Serializable types. It is completely data-format agnostic and
currently supports 7 data formats, including three XML dialects and one
MySQL-powered back-end. Its author, with atypical hubris, truly believes
s11n to be the most advanced, most flexible, simplest-to-use, and utterly
most powerful serialization framework ever implemented in C++.

Changes: This release fixes missing std::vector proxy installations and
#includes from src/client/playground/*, and includes some other minor
internal tweaks.

[064] - samhain 1.8.11
  by rainer (http://freshmeat.net/users/rainer/)
  Thu, Sep 2nd 2004 08:26

Security

About: samhain is a daemon that can check file integrity, search the file
tree for SUID files, and detect kernel module rootkits (Linux only). It
can be used either standalone or as a client/server system for centralized
monitoring, with strong (192-bit AES) encryption for client/server
connections and the option to store databases and configuration files on
the server. For tamper resistance, it supports signed
database/configuration files and signed reports/audit logs. It has been
tested on Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris, AIX, HP-UX, and Unixware.

Changes: The kernel rootkit detection has been upgraded to support Linux
2.6 kernels. There is a new option to handle exceptions for the hardlink
check on directories. The stealth kernel module now works with 2.6
kernels.

About: SAXY is a Simple API for XML (SAX) XML parser for PHP 4. It is
lightweight, fast, and modeled on the methods of the Expat parser for
compatibility. The primary goal of SAXY is to provide PHP developers with
an alternative to Expat that is written purely in PHP. Since SAXY is not
an extension, it should run on any Web hosting platform with PHP 4 and
above installed.

Changes: This version implements namespace support and fixes several
minor bugs. A new tutorial has been added.

[066] - SendmailAnalyzer 2.1
  by Gilles DAROLD (http://freshmeat.net/users/darold/)
  Thu, Sep 2nd 2004 09:47

Internet :: Log Analysis

About: Sendmail Analyzer is a Perl script reporting full HTML and graph
sendmail usage reports. It reports statistics on inbound, outbound, and
largest messages, senders and recipients, relays, domains, and complete
mailboxes usage (if your country's laws allow it). Statistics are
generated per hour, day, month, and year. Graphs are in PNG format. It can
also report virus and spam counts.

Changes: The "remove_domain" configuration directive was added. This
should be set to 1 when this script is running on a host where the domain
part of the destination mailboxes is rewritten with the relay hostname.
This is a workaround for user details when the domain part in the from and
to part of an internal user is not the same due to this rewriting. The
"size_unit" configuration directive was added to change the size unit,
which can be Byte (default), KByte, or MByte. A bug in the HTML output
concerning TABLE was fixed. A bug with a missing translation string was
fixed. The documentation was updated.

[071] - TreeLine 0.9.0
  by Doug Bell (http://freshmeat.net/users/Doug101/)
  Thu, Sep 2nd 2004 00:00

Other/Nonlisted Topic

About: TreeLine is used to organize and store text data in a tree
structure. It is well suited to keeping track of many different types of
information. Each node of the tree can contain several defined fields,
forming a mini-database. The format of each node can be defined, and the
output can be shown on the screen, printed, or exported to HTML. The tree
structure is navigated and edited in the left pane of the window, while
various views of the child data are shown and editable in the right pane.
The data is stored in XML text files. TreeLine is based on the PyQt
library.

Changes: This release included the ability to import and export browser
bookmark files, and perform imports and exports from the command line.
TreeLine files can now be compressed and automatically saved, and
recently used files can remember their previous open node states. New
data fields include references to any ancestor and file meta-data fields.
Headers and footers can be printed and new context menus can insert HTML
tags into data.

[074] - Web Performance Trainer 2.7 Build 518

  Thu, Sep 2nd 2004 19:44

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Software Development :: Testing

About: Web Performance Trainer is a load testing and stress testing tool
for Web servers. Its statistical analysis takes your site's performance
criteria, and determines the number of users your Web site can handle.
Because data is collected at the URL level, it not only identifies slow
Web pages, but identifies the particular part of the Web page that caused
the problem. Web Performance Trainer includes hard-to-find features such
as IP spoofing, client certificates, multiple simultaneous test cases,
authentication, SSL recording and playback, automated analysis, and more.

Changes: This bugfix release addresses hotfixes needed for customers with
support contracts. It fixes a problem with images that originally returned
a 200 status code during the recording stage would sometimes get a 304
status code during playback, and this was erroneously flagged as an
error. It also fixes an error that caused the next button to not work in
the User Identity wizard. It also fixes a bug where test cases that ended
with a forward would have the final forward dropped.
